O’Reilly: Middle Easterners want to ’sit around,’ ’smoke.’
On the Monday edition of his radio show, Bill O’Reilly opined that citizens of Middle Eastern countries don’t “want democracy.” O’Reilly then claimed that it was because they are lazy and just want to “smoke,” “sit around,” and “go to the mosques“:
In my opinion, they just don’t. They want their meals. They want to smoke. They want to go to the mosques. They want to sit around, and that’s what they want to do. Do they want to vote? Do they want to get involved? Not really.

its an opinion. I don’t like it and I’m not going to defend it, but as an American who respects the 1st Amendment I will say he’s entitled to his stupid opinion.
In my opinion, if you substitute the phrase “act like they go to church” for the phrase “go to the mosque” you probably have a reasonably good generalization of America.

Colonialism is a lame excuse considering that their was almost no Western colonialism in the Arab world until after WWI….Egypt and Algeria being the exception. And the colonialism that did occur after WWI only lasted for about 50 years or less.

Just like the pipedream we had for Vietnam, Bush lied to the people to make the case for democracy in Iraq when no WMD’s were found. Democracy or nation building wouldn’t have a snowballs’s chance in hell of EVER being voted upon by Congress to move forward.

You’re having as much trouble distinguishing among Muslims as Bill is among “middle easterners”. The specific region we’re speaking about is Iraq and the neighboring, primarily Arab, countries. Which were, in fact, colonized by TURKS. Who happened to be Muslims.
Did someone suggest that being a Muslim meant you couldn’t be imperialist?

And speaking of colonialism, what do you think was gong on when Alexander the Great marched his armies across the Middle East? Don’t forget the Roman Empire, either. The Crusades were an attempt by Christian Europeans to capture (not “take back”) the “holy land” (largely populated by Arabs and other Semitic peoples)–and they indiscriminately slaughtered anybody in their way, including fellow Christians.

I can’t repeat it for a obvioius reasons, but it began with something about “loose shoes.” It had the same intent as O’Reilly’s: denigate a group of people — in this case, entire nations of people — by saying they have no productive purpose in life.

This was said to a caller who said part of the reason we’re not liked is because we interfere in the Middle East.

Just a momment. Weren’t the muslims hating the USA for its freedoms? But the USA has smoking bans in place in many places, public buildings, for example. So muslims hate the USA because has a ban they don’t have? And it’s not a ban the opposite to a freedom?
