Iraq was a mistake. Iraq was lost the day we went in. And the sooner the republoscum realize this the better off we’ll be.

Here is a great quote to back you up, B.

"A day will come that the current U.S. president and officials will be tried in an international supreme court for the catastrophes they caused in Iraq. Americans will have to answer for why they don't end occupation of Iraq and why waves of terrorism and insurgency have overwhelmed the country. It will not be like this forever and some day they will be stopped as happened to Hitler, Saddam and certain other European leaders. More than four years have passed since the occupation of Iraq and today everyone knows that America has failed and is frantically looking for a way out"

Any idea who said it?

"I don’t consider insurgents – people trying to kill US military troops – as civilians, but I guess you do.

You're still making no sense. What does “even though most of the daily attacks are carried out by Iraqi Sunni insurgents.” have to do with adding doubt to "A new survey by a British polling agency suggests that the Iraqi civilian death toll from the war could be more than 1.2 million." Whether insurgents are civilians or not has no affect on that number or how it was determined.

Dubya Spews Baloney About Iraq
14th of September 2007
by Jay Randal

The best way to sum up Pres. Bush's speech last night: 100% concocted baloney, twisted lies, and he did not utter single word of truth about the present situation.

Bush said token 5,700 troops would return home, by Christmas of this year, plus back to pre-surge level of 130,000+ soldiers left in Iraq before election next year.

He basically is kicking the can down the road for the next President, so leaving his Iraq Fiasco Occupation unresolved, and alluding to a long term commitment.

He purposely avoided telling American citizenry that controlling Iraq's OIL reserves is the main reason US remains in Iraq and refuses to terminate the occupation.

His refusal to tell the truth is a serious infraction, but he expects the press to accept his lies and the Congress to keep funding his debacle, therefore no real changes in Iraq policy for the rest of his term in the presidency.

You'll notice that when he references Al-Qaeda he does not mention that they are Sunni, or that they are supported by Saudi. I think he is trying to tie Iran to Al-Qaeda in the minds of the average American.

Iran was referenced five times:

<blockquote>"One year ago, Shia extremists and Iranian-backed militants were gaining strength and targeting Sunnis for assassination."

"A free Iraq will counter the destructive ambitions of Iran."

"If we were to be driven out of Iraq, extremists of all strains would be emboldened. Al Qaeda could gain new recruits and new sanctuaries. Iran would benefit from the chaos and would be encouraged in its efforts to gain nuclear weapons and dominate the region."

"We should be able to agree that we must defeat al Qaeda, counter Iran, help the Afghan government, work for peace in the Holy Land, and strengthen our military so we can prevail in the struggle against terrorists and extremists."

"To Iraq's neighbors who seek peace: The violent extremists who target Iraq are also targeting you. The best way to secure your interests and protect your own people is to stand with the people of Iraq. That means using your economic and diplomatic leverage to strengthen the government in Baghdad. And it means the efforts by Iran and Syria to undermine that government must end."</blockquote>

One of the real problems created by our precipitous and ill advised invasion of Iraq, is the loss of credibility on the international front with regards to the war on terror. The fact is we may need to go into a country to attack Al Quaida for real. And our mistaken attack on Iraq has made that much more diffcult. The internation community is not going to just sit back forever while America rides rough shot over half the globe trying to get a small group of poorly organized ill equipped terrorists.

Actually, bankrupting America by an unending occupation in Iraq is a victory for al-Qa'ida, just as bankrupting the Soviet Union was a victory for the mujaheddin in Afghanistan. Why is it so hard for conservatives to comprehend history?

<i>I don’t consider insurgents – people trying to kill US military troops – as civilians, but I guess you do.

They wouldn't be "insurgents" without the invasion. And since we consider an unarmed person carrying an IAI pamphlet an "insurgent," I don't trust a statistic that attempts to assign insurgent status based on subjective media reports. Needless deaths are needless deaths, and every violent death in Iraq since April 2003 is a needless death.

WaltinTexas-

KKKarl didn't come up with that phrase. The GOP's mantra comes from fairly predictable sources:

"The people can always be brought to the bidding of their leaders. All you have to do is tell them that they are in danger of being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger."

HERMANN GOERING
German Nazi marshal & politician (1893 - 1946)

AND:

"By means of shrewd lies, unremittingly repeated, it is possible to make people believe that heaven is hell -- and hell heaven. The greater the lie, the more readily it will be believed. "

Adolph Hitler, Mein Kampf

The GOP takes many pages from the Nazi rulebook, they realized long ago that when the truth isn't on your side, propaganda can be an incredibly useful tool.. Not that the MSM or their pathetic 28% base would ever pull their collective heads out of each others asses long enough to give it any thought. What bothers me most is that all those moderate Republicans aren't seeking truth, they're simply looking for excuses to not side with the Dems. Sadly all those Repubs that were so critical of the surge in the beginning will most likely side with Patreus/Bush's assessment regardless of the mountain of dissenting views from Patreus' boss, all the generals that Bush tossed aside, the GAO report, the soldiers on the ground (who have been blocked from viewing TP on their computers) and just plain old common sense. They and the rest of this nation have been burned by Bush's lies for almost 7 years now and yet still believe beyond hope that he's not USING them once more. The GOP base in this country while such a small minority, has such a stranglehold on this nation via their manipulation of the MSM, their coup over our Justice system at every level, the endless propaganda spin machine that spoon feeds the public a steady stream of fear and outright lies all at the unfortunate expense of our troops, our economy, our foreign public opinion and our hobbled Constitution. Sadly in spite of all the facts to the contrary, these "on the fence" Repubs will tow the line for their lame duck boss and the nation will be the worse of for it. Aren't there ANY Repubs with a TRUE sense of patriotism left in this country and why the Hell can't they, with the actual TRUTH on their side, convince these old fools to stop obstructing progress and use the powers given to them by the people to do the peolpl'e work? 70% wan't this war OVER yet these old fools pander to their crumbling base. Truly dispicable and disheartening to anyone who truly cares for the future of this great nation.

Just like the "fictitious nature" of comparing Japan to North Africa -- what happened to you Democrats -- at least FDR knew how to fight a multi-front war.
