Fox ignores Reed’s response to Bush.

By Ali Frick on Sep 14th, 2007 at 2:47 pm

Fox ignores Reed’s response to Bush.

Following President Bush’s speech last night, Fox was the only broadcast network that did not air Sen. Jack Reed’s (D-RI) rebuttal. Instead, anchor Shepard Smith directed viewers to watch Reed’s reply on cable at Fox News. “ABC, NBC, and CBS all aired the Democratic response,” MediaMatters notes.

Absolute proof that FOX news is merely a propadanda arm for the republican party.

  2. lefty Says:

If they were truly balanced that wouldn't happen.

    The FOXaganda continues...

  3. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper Says:

    From the Wall Street Journal:

Asked if his News Corp. managed to shape the agenda on the war in Iraq, Murdoch said: "No, I don't think so. We tried." Asked by Rose for further comment, he said: "We basically supported the Bush policy in the Middle East…”

  4. Jay Randal Says:

FOX only shills for the GOP, so I am not surprised. Reed's speech fell flat at the end when he basically said to Bush to please work with Congress on Iraq.

  5. missmolly Says:

Bet that will never happen after January 2009, when the president is a Democrat...

  6. raynman Says:

    I'm shocked, shocked!

  7. thejokesonus Says:

Well, we do have "The Daily Show".

  8. hellinabucket Says:

I liked Sen. Reed's response. He now has to come thru with the new direction. I look to those in congress who are fed up to start voting that way. No more worrying about not getting the 60 votes. Show where you stand. Show America where you stand.

  9. Uncle Ho Says:

yessiree Bob, that is "fair and balanced" alright, alright.
    MAJOR sarcasm.

  10. Grand Moff Texan Says:

It's a wonder FOX didn't identify Bush as a Democrat.

  11. Jay Randal Says:

Sen. Obama was dead on about Bush's lies last night, but the corporate owned press is trashing him today.

There will come a day when the catastrophe of Bush's administration will be spun by the corporate militarist Cheney oil machine into casting George as a "closet" Democrat.
    I'm guessing Inauguration Day 2009.

  13. Art Says:

If they aired it, then they would not have been fair and balanced.
Compared to the President's speech, the rebuttal was much more powerful.
It would have tilted the scale too much to the left.

  14. Jay Randal Says:

Biggest mystery of last night's speech is WHO has agreed to keep troops in Iraq for 8 years after Bush leaves office? Looks like Bill Clinton hanging out with Bush Senior was to cut a deal for Hillary. She gets 8 years as President in exchange for continuing the occupation of Iraq.

  15. detroitsuperfly Says:

Well, to be fair to FOX. They really don't have any news programming. Not even FOX "News". Its all opinion and infotainment.

  16. Zimzone Says:

FoxNews played the Democrats disgraceful rebuttal in its entirety.

It was Fox TV that didn't play it.

  19. Chubbytherepublican Says:

Who's Jack Reid? The third cousin twice removed of Harry "butt" Reid? Whats a "Roade Island"? Fox only covers real news not nobodys from nowhere with nothing to say.

  20. Ringo Says:

    Once more for the stupid.

Fox News DID play the entire disgraceful Democrat rebuttal.

It was Fox TV that didn't air it.

So, Jack Reed's response, which was televised live last night, is propaganda, right?

  24. jb Says:

Does Murdock have a green card?

  25. John the Elder Says:

Yes Oh Yes Faux Noise is fair and balanced. Can they be sued for misrepresentation? For constantly lying? If they can, they should be.

  26. hellinabucket Says:

Ringo, you are again showing your ignorance. The subject matter of this thread shows that Fox (not Fox News) didn't air the rebuttal.

There is no slant or partisan flare other than to point out the miserable coverage that Fox displayed by not airing the rebuttal.

  27. Exley Says:

    HiB,

To be fair to Ringo, several of the posters here clearly misunderstood the story and are incorrectly criticizing Fox News for not telecasting Reed's response. Ringo is correcting them.

  28. hellinabucket Says:

And the difference between Fox and Fox News is?

  29. hellinabucket Says:

So the free tv that Fox is on didn't make the responsible decision but the less viewed Fox News did.

    And this is acceptable?

  30. Exley Says:

Quite frankly, I think and have long said "responses" to presidential addresses, regardless of which party is in the White House, are silly and pointless. First, when a president speaks in his or her official capacity as the constitutional leader of the nation, he or she is not speaking as Democrat or Republican. Thus, there is no reason to have a member of the opposite party give a response. Second, let's face it...Nobody watches the responses. So, why have them?

  31. Exley Says:

    #28, HiB,

The point is that Ringo was accurately correcting several posters' misreading of the article.

  32. hellinabucket Says:

Point understood Exley. Now is it acceptable by you? by Ringo? that Fox tv didn't do the responsible thing?

  33. Ringo Says:

    Ringo is correcting them.

    Thanks.

...althought I admit I was a bit rude about it.

  34. François Says:

This is news? Anyone surprised by this? I wouldn't have carried it either, Exley is right.

  35. Ringo Says:

And the difference between Fox and Fox News is?

    Comment by hellinabucket
    ------------------------------------------------------

One is a cable news channel (with a slightly conservative slant, I admit), the other one is the broadcast TV network that shows The Simpsons and other entertainment.

  36. hellinabucket Says:

Exley, do agree with the president and his reccomendations? Don't you find it odd that Gen. Petraeus didn't sit next to his superior when reporting to congress? Do you think that there is a number of dead soldiers you need to see before there will be a removal of forces from Iraq?

Do you think that there should be no accountability for the past mistakes that have been committed by this administration?

  37. hellinabucket Says:

Thanks Ringo for answering a rhetorical question but the point was do you think that's acceptable? Fox tv is the whole shebang and reaches a much larger audience.

  38. PaulD Says:

By the way, here is the actual Democratic response in case anyone missed it:

They should have shown it so that more people could see how disgraceful the Democratic Party has become.

In the past ABC, NBC and CBS have all chosen NOT to air Oval Office speeches by the President himself. That's far worse, yet I don't remember anyone here complaining at the time.

Absolute proof that FOX news is merely a propadanda arm for the republican party.

    Comment by BARTLEBEE — September 14, 2007 @ 2:52 pm

of course....you only had to see hannity's interview with andy card the other day talking about the bin laden(genuine?? - yeah right!!!) tape the other day to be convinced that fox is nothing but televised right wing propaganda

  41. hellinabucket Says:

Thanks for answering Ringo. Now what was disgraceful about the Democratic response?

I believe all major speeches and responses should be shown on the free airways.

  42. Thinking Person Says:

The ABC affiliate in Medford, Oregon, KDVR, did not show the Democratic response either. When I called to complain and said that the majority of Americans didn't agree with Bush therefore the other sided to be heard, I was told, "Well, Bush won the election." Then the person hung up on me.

  43. SteveIL Says:

I don't see what the problem is. The FOX affiliate in Chicago airs one national news show a week, for an hour, and that's the FOX News Sunday morning show hosted by Chris Wallace. The rest of the news broadcasts on the FOX affiliate are all local, and they only run one hour a day (9:00pm CT). Everybody knows the rest of the coverage was going to be on FOX News Channel anyway, and people could go there for Reed's (pathetic) response.

  44. Jake Says:

    reed is a bone head

  45. cstrut Says:

Several years ago ruppi murdoch even said that faux news wasn't real news but "entertainment news" why some people believe anything or even watch faux is stupifying

  46. Professor Smartass Says:

Playing the opposition response to a presidential speech is the last faint gesture toward the Fairness Doctrine in broadcasting.

It is fitting that the right give up even the symbolism of real debate since they have done their best best to drown it in the bathtub not just on radio and TV, but at the university, and in the halls of Congress.

  47. dave from queens Says:

Fair and Balanced (propaganda phrase) - the conservative viewpoint gets balanced off with a more right wing conservative viewpoint and then the two viewpoints can fairly attack any other viewpoint.

  48. Traveler Says:

FOX ignores the truth in general.

  49. Leftside Annie Says:

    FUX Noise playing favorites.....?

    Nah. Never happen.

  50. LaDeDah Says:

Fox, like all media, shows you what they think you want to see. They are serving you, the viewer. Those who watch Fox don't want to see the Democratic response. Therefore, it was not shown. I think you can tell from some of those that posted that they feel hearing both sides of an arguement is unnecessary. It also explains why those who get there news from Fox are uninformed.
