I've seen it enough that I'm not surprised it's popluar with the TP prog crowd. And the smurfs are certainly a lot cleaner. Interesting comparison, though. Cartoons are cartoons, right? ;)

Otherwise, reasonably decent people couldn’t justify watching it. It’s not really something to brag about, though. ;)

I'm guessing you might watch it then?
If it didn't pre-empt American Idle or the Smurfs?

The initiative has been given backing across the Church, with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams speaking of his adoration of the show.

That would be what is kown as "reaching people where they are." They are attempting to take the small protion of the program that shows some sense of morality and using it to lead people. Obviously, the show has to have some positive elements. Otherwise, reasonably decent people couldn't justify watching it. It's not really something to brag about, though. ;)

TORTURE, TORTURE, TORTURE = is a gentle, but firm hand on the tiller?????
Also, WIRETAPPING is a gentle, but firm hand????? The woman who mentioned you have to fill and refill a stadium 9 times for all the teenagers no longer taking drugs (because of Gonzo)???? are they nuts? === I have to agree.,
the teenagers are no longer taking the drugs., because, unfortunately,
their parents are taking them to get through the pain of what this little
toad has done to the world, including the USA. I think everyone in that room must be on some sort of drug! (I do not intend to mock teenagers on drugs, believe me) --- but this being could care less. And I just cannot take these lies. And I am sick of "let us pray to the Lord" nonsense.
The only "hundreds of people" who were saved from hell, are the ones who sold their souls and did Bush & Cheney's (particularly Cheney's) bidding! Namely everyone giving praise to Gonzo, let alone Gonzo himself. The rest of us billions were and still are and will remain in hell, until the mess this administration has created is straightened out -
unfortunately, that may take many, many years. thanks a lot, GONZO = YOU LITTLE TWERT (I am trying to remain classy on this board).

His acting replacement is Paul Clement, and he does not use notes when speaking, thats a plus. Some of the cases he has argued.

Hamdan v. Rumsfeld: Clement lost this case on whether military commissions for Guantánamo Bay detainees are authorized under U.S. and international law.

Rumsfeld v. Padilla: In a 5-4 decision, the Court agreed with Clement’s argument that a U.S. citizen captured on American soil and designated as an enemy combatant can be detained by the military.

Hamdi v. Rumsfeld: The Court upheld the right of a U.S. citizen who was captured overseas and detained in the United States as an enemy combatant to contest his detention in U.S. courts. Clement argued against that right.

Glad he is in charge to make sure the Protect American Act is not abused.

Can't imagine Bush would want him the be subjected to confirmation hearings, a lot of tough questions would be asked, he is also supervising the investigations into the AG firings and knows who knew what when, so something tells me he is the acting AG until 2009 and will not be nominated.
Although now that he can approve wiretapping of anyone w/o a court order, maybe congress would be scared off and not ask any tough questions, so maybe not,

The man has to look at his written notes 3 times to say he appreciates the dedicated men and women of the Justice Department. Says volumes about this guy that he can't even get a simple sentence like that out without reading it.
“[H]undreds of innocent human beings have been freed from an unimaginable hell on Earth.”

. . . did they mean the "millions" of Americans that no longer have Alberto to shred civil liberties and promote torture?

What a pack of schmucks licking his turd-blossomed boots. This country has indeed been attacked by invaders, not by illegal immigrants, but by these neocons.

Over the past two and a half years, I have seen tyranny, dishonesty, corruption and depravity of types I never thought possible," Gonzales said in prepared remarks at a Hispanic Heritage Month ceremony at Bolling Air Force Base. "I've seen things I didn't know man was capable of.

He must have been referring to everyone in the Bush Admin.

“The Simpsons is hugely moral, with many episodes dealing with issues and dilemmas faced by young people. The willingness of the show's writers to deal with questions of both morality and spirituality makes the programme an ideal tool.”

Is this your best dodge? The show has been consistently praised by clergy across the mainstream spectrum. Besides doesn't the market respond to the desires of the viewers? Being the longest continuous situation comedy in history would seem to suggest that if your premise is correct that "liberal" Simpsons folks are the majority in this country

The many thousand candidates for power positions in the local Cuban elections do not share your criticismn of what you don't understand. Get over it; there's a different type of democracy than electoral type American democracy and you're not controlling it Hah! I've said it!
