President Bush’s Message, “Not On My Watch”

That should be the media’s headlines over the weekend after hearing the President make his 8th primetime television speech about Iraq to the American people.

While I’m not a supporter of John Edwards, he said it best tonight during his paid for commercial that was aired not long after the President spoke.

"In January, after years of evidence that military actions cannot force a political solution, the president announced a military surge to force a political solution. In May, he vetoed a plan to end the war, demanded more time to show the surge could work, and Congress gave it to him. Now, after General Petraeus reports the surge has produced no progress toward a political solution, what does the president want? More time for the surge to work, when all of us know it won't."

The President informed the nation tonight that he expects to leave a U.S. presence in Iraq way beyond his presidency. He said Iraqi leaders "have asked for an enduring relationship with America.” The mission keeps changing, have you noticed?

What happened to, “Missions Accomplished” Mr. President?

I wouldn't get too excited about this.

It's all about timing. If they are using Nielsen ratings, the info is based on who is watching at the beginning and the end of the program. They want to know how many people are sticking around and watching the whole program, and how many are finding it boring and turned it off.

Folks tuned around, caught Bush's speech after it started, and then stuck around and watched the Democrat response.

Personally, I didn't see either one.

Did anybody posting here actually
notice the news of this blog post?
Just a reminder.... More people watched the
democratic response than watched the prez!

A minor deal?

Happens all the time?

No good cartoons on other channels while Reed talks?

This is a NON-story. Fox didn't air the response so some viewers who were interested in hearing the response switched to FoxNews or CNN to catch it. There's your "uptick".

I think part of the additional traffic to Fox was a result of me, and probably hordes of other folks, switching over, thinking, "those MF-ers better be airing this." Granted, I hadn't thought to check the broadcast Fox station, but then again I gave up activities that kill so many brain cells in one breath last January 1.

I thought Faux didn’t air Reed’s remarks. ???

Comment by babsis — September 17, 2007 @ 8:08 pm

That’s what I heard also. They referred people to their other sites for the Dem reply but it wasn’t on Fox TV.

I like to hear that people are tuning in to the Democrats, but I don’t want to hear false ratings.
TVNewser should be asked to recheck their figures.

Reed's response most certainly did air on Faux. I watched it and recorded it.

I don't know where the claims they didn't came from, but they were wrong.

I saw media matters saying Fox didn't air the Dem response.

Fox only broadcast network that did not air Democratic response to Bush speech
http://mediamatters.org/items/200709140002

I couldn't believe that because I had watched it on Faux because I was looking to catch any wingnuttery clips to send in to C&L. I still have the recording.

Seems really sloppy of media matters.

Much as I would like to think people were tuning in to hear Reed, I have to suspect that most of the additional viewers for Reed were just skipping Bush, hoping that their regular programs had resumed, and then waiting until they did.

I completely agree with him if he means the republican party is abolished as well. In the USSR there was one party, the Communists. In the US, then and today, there are thousands of laws which have the explicit or effective design meant to establish that only two parties will exist. Wow, from 1 to 2. Such progress....
