Wayne, please provide us with the source(s) for your statement that the U. S. government makes more money on a gallon of gas than the oil companies.

Comment by curmudgeon — September 18, 2007 @ 3:12 am</blockquote>

I can save some time here: Rush, Beck, Hannity. The trifecta of simplistic, easy to remember and repeat propaganda.

Never forget, 42.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

> At first I thought this was funny...then
> I realized the awful truth of it.
>
>
> Be sure to read all the way to the end!
> Tax his land,
> Tax his bed,
> Tax the table
> At which he's fed .
>
>
>
> Tax his tractor,
> Tax his mule,
> Teach him taxes
> Are the rule.
> Tax his cow,
> Tax his goat,
> Tax his pants,
> Tax his coat.
> Tax his ties,
>
>
> Tax his shirt,
> Tax his work,
> Tax his dirt.
>
> Tax his tobacco,
> Tax his drink,
> Tax him if he
> Tries to think.
>
> Tax his cigars,
> Tax his beers,
> If he cries, then
> Tax his tears.
>
> Tax his car,
> Tax his gas,
> Find other ways
> To tax his ass
>
> Tax all he has
> Then let him know
> That you won't be done
> Till he has no dough.
>
> When he screams and hollers,
> Then tax him some more,
> Tax him till
> He's good and sore.
>
> Then tax his coffin ,
> Tax his grave,
> Tax the sod in
> Which he's laid.
>
> Put these words
> upon his tomb,
> " Taxes drove me to my doom..."

Given your concern about keeping marriage vows, looks like you won't be supporting McCain or Giuliani.

Let's see -- George W. Bush ignored warnings, including the August 6, 2000 memo entitled, "bin Laden determined to strike" -- almost 3000 dead on 9/11. He then rushed us into an invasion and ongoing occupation of Afghanistan, in time to plant the opium crop in the fall of 2000, and now they account for 93% of the world supply (http://www.unodc.org/pdf/research/AFG07_ExSum_web.pdf) along with at least 437 U. S. military dead. Then he lied to us into an invasion and occupation of Iraq, leading to at least 3781 U. S. military deaths, and as many as 1.2 million deaths to Iraqis (source -- http://www.alternet.org/waroniraq/62728/). And just in case you think the United States entered Afghanistan and Iraq in response to the events of 9/11, please consider the country of origin for the nineteen named hijackers: Saudia Arabia (15), United Arab Emirates (2), Egypt (1) and Lebanon (1).

One more point -- Clinton didn't add hundreds of billions in debt to the nation's credit card, which you'll need to pay as well (forget social security or medicare), but since you must be among the extremely wealthy, you have likely been investing your tax cut windfalls in foreign currencies.

Please explain to all of us why the money used to investigate Clinton was well spent, and why money to investigate Bush Administration actions would not be.

Oh, Crumudgeon, you forgot to add in the effects of inflation tp when you said:

$70 million dollars during the Clinton era to find a stained blue dress? No problem.

$2.89 million dollars to investigate serious constitutional violations? We are told that there isn’t enough money?

Comment by MapleStreet

had Clinton kept his marriage vows, there never would have been 70 million spent

Ordinary folks, I see everyday, say they voted for republicans for years and all they get out of it is a smaller paycheck. They are tired of the GOP and government that takes their vote and tells them their success lies in lower taxes.

Comment by MNDem

OK DFLer, when I was in MN, I was poor due to the high property taxes, and my union dues. (I was making 6.49/hr) I left and now make 80k a yr.
My family and 3 brothers live there and pay a small fortune in property taxes which will never go down. Let me tell you something, its the DEMS who vote for anytax that they can think of. If it werent for Ronald Reagan and GW bUSH, the tax rates would be at 80 and 90 % and when a relative died, the goverment would tax the crap out of you . Also how many of your Hormel union jobs are now being done by illegal labor? and more DEMS want them here then Republicans.

"They are tired of the GOP and government that takes their vote and tells them their success lies in lower taxes."

Only a liberal would be foolish enough think that their sucess depends on government and higher taxes. You just stated an obvious fact about sucess and taxes although I will admit I get tired of hearing that same old fact over and over.

Hope this one doesn't get deleted by TP.

$70 million dollars during the Clinton era to find a stained blue dress? No problem.

$2.89 million dollars to investigate serious constitutional violations? We are told that there isn’t enough money?

Oh Tracy, your time has past; people have caught on to you and your fog-visioned friends. Ordinary folks, I see everyday, say they voted for republicans for years and all they get out of it is a smaller paycheck. They are tired of the GOP and government that takes their vote and tells them their success lies in lower taxes.

How long ago was it, exactly, that this country fell down the rabbit hole?"

Bless you curmudgeon, for your observation; the difference between the two investigations has been startliing. Republicans stole food out of babes mouths, medicine and crusts of bread from our elderly, and made sure the poor were doubly punished for being poor--that's how they paid for it.

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION: We started down the rabbit hole in the midterm election of 1994...our downward slide hit full stride in November/December 2000. Please don't stop posting.

Now that's a contradiction in terms. LOL!

Good. The less govenment control seeking to destroy our liberties the better.
