Poll: Americans unhappy with Bush policy after Iraq speech.»

In a new CBS poll released yesterday, most Americans “say the plan President Bush announced last week for troop reductions doesn’t go far enough. … Nearly half want Mr. Bush to remove even more troops by next summer than he proposed in his address. Forty-seven percent say the plan to bring troop numbers down to pre-surge levels next year should go even further.”

Additionally, just 31 percent say escalation “has made things in Iraq better, while more than half (51 percent) say it’s had no impact. Eleven percent say it’s made things worse.”

The Bush Administration’s “parting shots” of the “last throes” of his botched presidency. The american people have had a bellyful of his shenanigans, lies, and in-your-face corruption. He’d better be thinking of going into exile in Paraguay when he’s out of office. He’ll be the most vilified and repudiated president EVER in the history of this country.

And yet the streets are empty as long as American Idol is on. Sad.

  5. Snidely Whiplash Says:

Bush doesn’t even attempt to represent the will of the American people. As long as his friends in the oil business are getting richer, and Cheney’s stock in Halliburton continues to rise, Bush is successful.

  6. Doc Rock Says:

Let’s keep our eye on the goal– it is not to get the troops out of Iraq [who cares what the people in a Democracy want?], but, rather, to drop the whole, nasty ball of wax in the next president’s lap–that is the metric of success!

If they want to alienate the vast majority of Americans, who are we to stop them?

And yet none of them can tell you how it is working, what progress is being made, or even what the definition of “working” is. They simply have heard “the surge is working” repeated so many times that they believe it. I can easily make a cogent argument for how the surge has failed, backed by evidence and facts. Yet, everytime I hear someone say “the surge is working”, that is all they have.

Nice attempt to move the goalposts, RD, but no dice.

    Here’s what you originally claimed:

82% believe that the surge is somewhat working, even if only in a mediocre sense!

Apparently, you’re now defining “working” as “not actually making things worse”. A major stretch, even for a mouthbreathing neocon apologist such as yourself.

  46. Romeo'sDelight Says:

    Hey TripMaster Monkey,
    2 things.
    1) Shall we define mediocre? Let’s!
    adjective
    1. of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad; barely adequate.
    2. rather poor or inferior.
That pretty much sums up my original post regarding the 82%

    2) Who said I was a “mouth breathing neocon apologist”?
Nice try, but now I call BullSh!t

“Does this mean there may a sex change in your future? Just asking.”

    Comment by Uncle Ho

Sex hasn’t changed much for 35 years, I’m not expecting it to be any different from here on out…

  53. TripMaster Monkey Says:

    Romeo’sDelight sez:

    1) Shall we define mediocre? Let’s!

Let’s not. The qualifier “mediocre” does not change the meaning of “working”to “not actually making things worse”, your desperate attempts to distort the English language notwithstanding.

Who said I was a “mouth breathing neocon apologist”?

I did. Given the content of your posts to date, it’s a fair and accurate assessment. If you don’t like it, you have only yourself to blame.

  54. Jason M. Hendler Says:

This poll provides good information, and improves my opinion of the general public, in that they understand what will happen, versus what they want to happen.
