Today, the nonpartisan watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington put out its third annual report on the most corrupt members of Congress, Beyond DeLay: The 22 Most Corrupt Members of Congress (and two to watch). The bipartisan list includes Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK), Rep. Rick Renzi (R-AZ), Rep. John Murtha (D-PA), and Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA), among others.
Murtha is a democrat.
September 18th, 2007 at 12:32 pmDon’t pull a Fox! Murtha is a Democrat. (Please correct!)
September 18th, 2007 at 12:33 pmShouldn’t that be “Rep. John Murtha (D-PA)”?
September 18th, 2007 at 12:33 pmdid TP accidentally pull a FOX by labeling Murtha an (R)?
September 18th, 2007 at 12:34 pmWhat the hell, TP? How could you get Murtha’s party affiliation wrong???
Didn’t you think we’d notice an error like that?
Every minute that that error stays up, TP looks more like FOX Noise.
September 18th, 2007 at 12:36 pmIncluding Murtha(D), of the 22 named, only 4 are Democrats.
September 18th, 2007 at 12:37 pmUnfortunately, Murtha’s name is among the 22 listed to receive subpoenas I believe. Rep. refers to Representative and Murtha is certainly a democrat.
This is why I’m a registered Independent. Obviously, corruption knows both sides of the aisle when we do not have term limits or campaign finance reform.
The fact is, however, that the majority of those corrupted by the system happen to be Repukes because during the 6 years of “unchecked power” these guys “COULD”.
September 18th, 2007 at 12:38 pmThanks for posting this non partisan list TP. Even though it includes Murtha. I am shocked but impressed.
September 18th, 2007 at 12:38 pmTMM: It’s not an error. Reread it. They all have Rep. before their name because it is an abbreviation for “representative” with their political party affiliation there parenthetically.
September 18th, 2007 at 12:39 pmNope, a FOX NOISE mistake would be assigning a “(D)” to a Republican snark.
September 18th, 2007 at 12:39 pmTundra: I would have to agree with you here. TP is showing that it is non partisan; unlike some of the Bush propaganda megaphones like Fox News. Kudos to TP for telling it like it is.
Corruption knows no political party, although the Repukes have had a monopoly on it “because they could” – with the unchecked and imbalanced power of the past 6 years, and the DOJ in their hip pocket, they thought they were invincible. WRONG!
September 18th, 2007 at 12:40 pmIf the are crooked, boot them all out.
Doesn’t matter if they are Repug or Dem, redheaded or freckled, if they are corrupt, get their collective asses out of Washington.
September 18th, 2007 at 12:40 pmThanks for posting this non partisan list TP. Even though it includes Murtha. I am shocked but impressed.
Comment by Tundra — September 18, 2007 @ 12:38 pm
They posted the list last year as well, and it had (D)’s on it too.
My bet is the list won’t see the light of Faux Entertainment, unless it is to only mention the 4 (D)’s.
Let’s wait and see.
September 18th, 2007 at 12:41 pmSatirev:
There was a mistake. Murtha was a indentified with a (R-PA), but it has been fixed.
September 18th, 2007 at 12:42 pmif they are corrupt, get their collective asses out of Washington.

September 18th, 2007 at 12:45 pmsatirev sez:
It was an error, satirev. The original text was: Rep. John Murtha (R-PA). The editors fixed it shortly after my comment.
(By the way, I know what ‘Rep.’ stands for, thanks.)
September 18th, 2007 at 12:50 pmIm sure TP will be posting daily news slandering Murtha just like they did Stevens.
September 18th, 2007 at 12:51 pmOh wait i just remembered that TP is a bunch of partisan hacks….
Straight trade – give up every repub on the list, and we could happily hand over every dem on the list.
September 18th, 2007 at 12:52 pmFair and balanced GOP-ers see 4 Dems of 22 as equal.
No wonder the US budget is shot to hell.

September 18th, 2007 at 12:55 pmgitmoRules sez:
Oh yes, which explains why TP posted the names of two Repubs and two Dems, even though the actual numbers are 18 and 4, respectively.
Who’s a “partisan hack” again?
September 18th, 2007 at 1:01 pmRepugnants more than 5:1 favorites to be corrupt over Dems. Sounds ’bout right.
September 18th, 2007 at 1:03 pmWoo hoo!! My Senator made the Dishonorable Mention list!
:|
September 18th, 2007 at 1:03 pmno explanations with the names? wtf?
September 18th, 2007 at 1:04 pmActually, Charlie, the ratio works out to be 4.5 to 1.

September 18th, 2007 at 1:05 pmUntil coporate lobbyists are outlawed ,and a politician can be elected with out millions from corporate donors ,the fact is that both parties are under the control of international corporations ,whose only loyalty is to the bottom line .
Ralph Nader has it right !

20 to 4 = 5 to 1 = 5 times more corrupt
I hope voters catch a clue and vote out corrupt politicians, and that means ALL corrupt ones, both parties, corruption is eating the USA a little at a time.
September 18th, 2007 at 1:07 pmWow, Alaska is well represented.
September 18th, 2007 at 1:08 pmcorruption is eating the USA a little at a time.

And is is as opposed to Reichwing windsocks?
September 18th, 2007 at 1:15 pmWorker rights , an 8 hour work day ,a fair days work for a fair days pay , environmental regulations ,all serve to make the American worker un competitive. The very corporations whose money elects our representatives are rolling basic rights for the working back to the turn of the last century !Buy a product at target ,k mart or wallmart (to name just a few ) and you are buying a product made by slave or forced labor !Reads senator dorgan’s book ,Take this job and ship it ,the section on slave and forced labor is staggering !
September 18th, 2007 at 1:16 pmWe are witnessing the rise of a global corporate state and until worker rights is universal for everyone ,everywhere ,we will be bled as a nation to the point of destruction .
Four out of the 22 are Democrats. What does that tell you about the Republic party. And that is just those who are corrupt (I assume meaning financially). Then you have all the morally corrupt Republicans like Vitter and Craig. Good showing Republics.
September 18th, 2007 at 1:16 pmCorrupt Republican? Karl told me to parden them, cause it’s a witch hunt…yeah…witch….hunt….hehe….sorta like Uncie Dick shooting up tame quail….get yerself a few drinks in ya and shoot up some quail.
They’ll never get me though…hehe…I’m all cockified and stuff…I’ll do the decidering who’s corrupt or not….and it’s those Dems…see the list…4 or em….what more do I have to say….ignore the Republicans in the list…that just partisan naysayers….I’ll be dealing out some justifications on those Dems though….like I did Sadam…Babs I need some more pretzels.
Pull my finger…..hehe
September 18th, 2007 at 1:17 pmDomenici? No, really?

Well, since Murtha is not currently being investigated by the FBI (or anyone else that I know of), what news is there to report with Murtha? And I bet if he does come under investigation that TP will report on it. They reported on the Jefferson investigation and Jefferson found no support here.
Now, Gitmo, do you suppose that redstate.com or Faux Noise has been reporting on the Stevens investigation? My bet is on NOT!
September 18th, 2007 at 1:21 pmTo our lawmakers ,
September 18th, 2007 at 1:22 pmPass a law which bans any and all products that are not made by laborers whose basic rights are respected .
Without such a law the US is doomed as a nation .
Remember, these are the MOST corrupt. It would take pages to list everyone who’s been indicted for something the past few years.
September 18th, 2007 at 1:34 pmThe 22 most corrupt members of congress ay?
I see we’re down to the finalists.
September 18th, 2007 at 1:36 pmMurtha is listed to bash some Democrats too.

Are these the contestants on Fox’s hot new reality show “Republican Idol!” ? Every week the several constestants show off their corruption chops in front of a packed house and the hosts of the show, karl, Delay, Foley, and the ghost of Reagan. At the end of each show, the audience votes for the most corrupt republican of the night. During sweeps week, one lucky republican will be crowned King (or queen, Senator Craig…) of Corruption. That lucky person will be the republican nominee for president in 08.

Guess they had to be best at something. Maybe they were having corruption envy of Louisiana and New Jersey and Ohio.
September 18th, 2007 at 2:19 pmWhat percentage of the list is Demo and what percentage is Repub ?
Kind of illuminating – ain’t it.
September 18th, 2007 at 2:20 pmVote them all out of office next November, Democrat or Republican. This nonsense has got to stop.
To the trolls who visit this site, the overwhelming number of corrupt pols are republican–deal with it. Also, any outrage over the money that was spent at the DOJ for meatballs and cookies, we can thank the repigs for that nonsense. They funded it BEFORE last November’s elections and the Chimp signed it.
As stated above, I don’t give a damned who these Congressmen are they should be dumped from office.
September 18th, 2007 at 2:24 pmAnd it’s a hat trick for Alaska!
