They did all this and yet haven’t done anything to Stevens. Seems like he would be in jail already if these phone calls amounted to anything. If he is guilty, the bastard should rot in a jail cell for sure. Currently, he is innocent until proven guilty in my book.

Stevens’ overt corruption was such an obvious problem for the GOP which is why they decided to wiretap him. He was doing serious damage to their image with his blatant illegal activities that they had to do something to squelch the laughter on the sidelines as well as get him out of their limelight. All I could see was one sick, cantankerous battle axe whose senile dementia was affecting his censoring area in his brain and who was “outing” the tactics of himself and his party quite handily. He could be the poster child for the ‘contemporary mafioso’ for goodness sakes.

Why the hell would they need warrants? The don’t seem to need warrants to eavesdrop on the rest of us poor slobs.

It doesn’t matter…the absence of habeas corpus from our law means that quibbling about the legality of warrantless wiretapping is like making an argument about whether a hatch on a boat should be closed or open, while the entire bottom of the boat is missing.

an illegally tapped phone is not a get out of jail free card. at best, the phone conversations, and any evidence that results from them will be supressed.. if they have other evidence against stevens, the case will stand, regardless of whether the phone convos are allowed in or not…

plus, the motion to supress would be a matter of public record, which would probably end stevens carreer, at the very least..
