Malkin: Sally Field Is The Type Of Mom Who ‘Buys Her Teenager Beer And Condoms On Prom Night’»

Since actress Sally Field won an Emmy and spoke out against the Iraq war in her acceptance speech, the right wing has been on the attack. In addition to Fox censoring her speech, conservatives continue to criticize Field for speaking out.

Taking the slander to a very personal level, right-wing blogger Michelle Malkin attacked Field’s parenting skills with a column in the National Review entitled “Sally Field Does Not Speak For Me.” In it, she writes:

Sally Field is the mom who looks the other way when the brat on the elementary-school slide pushes your son to the ground or throws dirt in your daughter’s face.

She’s the mom who holds her tongue at the mall when thugs spew profanities and make crude gestures in front of her brood.

She’s the mom who tells her child never to point out when a teacher gets her facts wrong.

She’s the mom who buys her teenager beer, condoms, and a hotel room on prom night, because she’d rather give in than assert her parental authority and do battle.

Fox and Friends hosted Malkin this morning to promote her hate-filled column. On the show, Malkin — a mother herself — posited her theory of parenting: “motherhood should bring a ferocity, and dare I say, make us more violent.”

Watch it:

Fox was overjoyed to have Malkin on the air. Co-host Gretchen Carlson said Malkin’s “best line in the article” was about the condoms and beer. Malkin responded, “as a Mom, I know, I’ve dealt with moms like [Fields], who look the other way.”

After a few more exchanges of laughter and contempt, co-host Steve Doocy closed the segment stating, “Hollywood probably thinks you are dangerous and offensive.” So do many others.

Digg It!

Sally should slap her with a slander or libel suit immediately. And the National Review should be embarrassed to be publishing such obvious drivel; the magazine used to at least maintain a facade of intellectual honesty but commentary like this is the same sort of “schoolyard” dribble often oozing out from under Ann Coulter.

  10. citizen_pain Says:

As much as right wing blow hards and demogouges like Malkin should just be ignored, it’s impossible in this day and age to just sit back and let them detroy people’s character. So, I say Sally Fields needs to use this as a springboard to get many, many other celebrities on the wagon to start rebutting these hatemongers. If these people truly only occupy about 25-30% of the political spectrum, they should be pub;licly and repeatedly rebutted and called out for what they are.

Malkin is most definitely on drugs.

And I notice that Malkin did not address the question of war.

  39. bilbobaggins Says:

Malkin: Sally Field Is The Type Of Mom Who ‘Buys Her Teenager Beer And Condoms On Prom Night’

And she knows this how? My bet is on the fact that Sally Field is a much better mom that the hate-monger Malkin ever would be. But, then, she’s not married and doesn’t have any kids. That’s probably why she is so hateful, because no one loves her.

I think I dislike this woman even more than Mann Coulter.

  40. KDT Says:

This is how stupid Malkin is; she is accusing Sally Field of being passive on issues. Yet, the entire incident that is being debated is Sally Field standing up and being a strong and non passive person.

Can you count for me the number of mothers who think this so-called “war” in Iraq is a good idea as opposed to those who don’t? I don’t think that remark was sexist in any way. The fact is that many testosterone driven men seem to think that attacking and hurting other people is an acceptable way to act. That sure is a fact with our current government and the lemming Republic congress.

Too bad you don’t really mean that rogerx2. Why should Iraq have to face OUR enemies? They are not the enemy of Iraq, they are our enemies who we brought to Iraq (if they really and truly are there, which I tend to doubt). And how about we allow the people of Iraq to determine what measure of freedom and democracy they want. Who in the hell are we to dictate to them? The most recent poll showed that somewhere near 70% of the people in Iraq want us to get the hell out of their country. If that’s what the people of Iraq want, then who are we to stand in their way. Who are we to tell them anything other than “goodbye”?

Attacking Sally Fields is like attacking the Energizer Bunny. Malkin must be really desperate. Who watches the Emmy’s anyway? Judging by the ratings this year, fewer and fewer people. And those lonely few who did didn’t get to hear what Fields said, anyway, so really, what’s the point?

Poor Michelle. Scraping the barrel for anything to say that will attract attention.

  75. missmolly Says:

Wow. Michelle Malkin claims to know a great deal about how Sally Field has raised her children. Has she witnessed Sally’s parenting first-hand? Or is she just creating a straw man (straw mom?) to rail against?

I was raised by a mother who was politically liberal — someone who Michelle would consider a “Sally Field type” mother. I can assure you she never handed me beer or condoms, but she did teach me that doing stupid things carry certain consequences. She didn’t stop me from from challenging authority figures who had their facts wrong, but she did teach me politeness and manners — to be used when I did so. She didn’t beat up people who exhibited vulgar behavior in front of me, but she taught me tolerance instead of bigotry. And like Sally Field’s child, I signed up for the military after high school.

Michelle seems to have written this hate column entirely as a reaction to Sally saying something about mothers being less likely to start wars. Does Michelle want to go out and start a war or something?

They also claim that they are a bipartisan organization, while their site spews forth rightwing talking points and is rife with inaccuracies aimed at the left, including but not limited to pinning Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist church on the left. Of course any dissenting opinions get scrubbed from the site very quickly and get slammed from a right only perspective. I guess when they say they are bi-partisan they mean war supporters and pro-war supporters or republicans and conservatives because it ibis painfully obvious that they have no interest in debate or even in hearing what anyone with opinions other than those that match their own.

There are Salafi extremists who have branded themselves al Qaeda in Iraq, but they are not the same group that was in Afghanistan and planned the 9/11 attack. BTW, this Salafi extremists were not functioning in Iraq until we toppled the Ba’athist regime.

The August report showed they were responsible for over 35% of all civilian deaths in Iraq in August of this year.

No it didn’t. The DoD (and compliant media) have taken up the fraudulent practice since last summer of claiming all vehicular bombings are the work of “al Qaeda”, which is wholly unsupported by any facts.

Please explain how abandoning the Iraqi’s and declaring defeat against AQ somehow furthers my security.

    Comment by Roger_Roger — September 20, 2007 @ 3:39 pm

Simple, the Sunni insurgents and the Shite majority are enemies of al Qaeda and will dispose of al Qaeda in Iraq because it is in their own interest to do so. What you and every pro-war moron can’t seem to grasp is, that the Sunni/tribal run secular Ba’athist regime were ENEMIES of political islam and particularly of extremists like al Qaeda. Furthermore, Iran and the Shites are also enemies of the sunni extremist Salafi jihadists like al Qaeda.

I would point out however, that our invasion and ocntinued occupation of Iraq is putting your security MORE at risk becaus eof the long-term hatred it is isntilling in the non-extrmeist muslim world and througout the region.

Simply put, you don’t know jack-shit about what you are talking about while you stand there in your puddle of pee you made from the moment the planes hit on 9/11. Typical ignorant warmongering Fright-winger and neocon enabler. Quell surprise.

While I fully agree that invading Iraq was a serious mistake, never the less we did it. We made a mess and AQ came after us and the Iraqi’s. Do you think it is honestly fair to the Iraqi’s if we leave now? We made the mess. Shouldn’t we clean it up? AQ is killing Iraqi’s (35% of all deaths are credited to them in August). Personally, I feel that we owe the Iraqi’s a chance at freedom and democracy. We need to rebuild that country since we wrecked it. We need to rid them of extremist like AQ. Isn’t that fair?

  95. DRxJ Says:

No offense to the malkin lovers here, but michelle is just a product of our time.
She probably believes about as much of what she says as Limbaugh, which is usually less than half.
    It’s about shock, and ratings.
Clearly, as with Rush, she would never have the cajones to actually confront her opponent and utter these remarks.

  96. hellinabucket Says:

rogerx2 how can you use any stats when they are skewed from the begining? Car bombs don’t count as deaths but are they counted as AQI deaths? Does the AQI shoot in the front of the head or back? Just where do you get these numbers?

That is disgusting beyond words. And, one has to ask, why weren’t the men arrested and charged with assault. It sounds like this assault was similar to the Jena assaults referenced on this blog and those young men were all arrested and charged with assault.

Could it be because they were “pro-war” protesters that they were not arrested for assault?

  100. redbeard72 Says:

This post is seriously disturbing. I haven’t paid too much attention to the wingnuts lately; I forgot about Malkin. That, or I hoped that maybe she would have grown up by now. Oh well. Give ‘m hell Sally; it’s a shame that these days, the only time we get to hear any real truths on the tube; their spoken on awards shows (remember Kanye after Katrina?).

    Redbeard72

  101. Candyce Says:

Malkin would never meet with or challenge Field to a debate on a discussion of their differences regarding war. That’s too grown-up, too adult for her to manage. Instead she chooses to attack Field’s motherhood, and by inference, her children and who they are as human beings.

She really has now earned herself Worst Person in the World, lifetime membership.

  102. bilbobaggins Says:

#56 Are you really that naive to think AQ isn’t in Iraq? The August report showed they were responsible for over 35% of all civilian deaths in Iraq in August of this year.

Roger roger, you are taking the word of our government as gospel. Well, I feel sorry for you. You’ve been lied to, what 100 times, and yet you still drink the kool-aid. What our government has done is to call insurgents “al queda in Mesopotamia” to create a new boogy man. While our military estimates that these so-called “al Queda” types are less than 5% of the people fighting in Iraq, they credit them with 35% of civilian deaths. That’s quite an accomplishment, don’t you think.

No, I am not naive, you are. You buy anything the lying sack of shit Bush tells you without any critical thought at all. I feel very sorry for you but I feel more sorry for the people who live around you.

  103. VerbalKint Says:

This hatefest by Malkin, National Review, and Fox illustrates well the meltdown being experienced by the neo-Nazi right in this country. Deadenders all, in their last throes.

I think the official estimate is 2%.

R2 doesn’t calibrate against reality. Ever.

  105. Candyce Says:

Wayne, that story is not off topic at all. Malkin touted the Gathering of Eagles march for weeks on her website, she was a sponsor of their march. And she has posted nothing about this horrible beating of a father who lost his child.

Her rhetoric ala Field and anyone who dares to speak out - including parents of fallen troops - feeds this kind of thing. She gives people who hate Muslims, hate Mexicans and even hate grieving families permission to act out that hate with these kinds of acts.

How brave. Beating up a man who has lost a son and has decided it was wrong. I think of Carlos pulling his memorial to his son around from state to state and my heart hurts.

  106. andy phx Says:

So she is a irresponsible parent because she doesn’t believe in war. She didn’t in fact single out Iraq. She was talking about war in general. It’s unimaginable the lengths these cowards who won’t fight themselves go to promote war. These self-proclaimed followers of Jesus. Who is referred to in the Bible as The Prince of Peace.

  107. OxyCon Says:

I have to say I’m totally shocked that Michelle Malkin is behaving like a right wing goon, focusing a personal attack of the most vicious kind against someone she somehow disagrees with. I mean, it’s not like Malkin does this every single day of her life, or that she’s made a career out of it.

  110. Spudge Boy Says:

Call me what you want, but I back our troops and when our generals provide stats, I trust them.

Okay, you’re a fu*king idiot. General Petraeus. You know, the guy you support said that it wasn’t his report and that it was the White Houses report, because that is what is required by Congress.

  112. BrianFL Says:

    CaptainMantastic,

Why don’t you try reading your own link about Bush’s comments before invading Iraq. Try searching for the words “Al Qaeda” in that whitehouse.gov link you posted, and you’ll find that Bush very clearly tried to use Saddam’s connection to Al Qaeda as a reason for our invasion of Iraq.

Since that speech, they have continued to use Al Qaeda as the reason for staying in Iraq. To say otherwise is a flat out lie.

  116. Roger_Roger Says:

While I continue to agree we should not have invaded Iraq, I fail to understand why we should leave now. We destroyed Iraq. Isn’t it our responsibility to restore it? Isn’t it fair that we provide security for the folks of Iraq and help them rebuild? Isn’t it our duty to rid the country of extremism, AQ, and other terrorist organizations? How can we possibliy abandom the Iraqi people right now?

  117. loretta Says:

  118. Wayne Says:

Why is it so hard for you to trust the troops fighting for your freedom (and Iraqi freedom)?

I trust what the troops say, such as what 7 members of the 82nd (my old division ) wrote, what my son who is in Iraq tells me, what my bro-in law who is in Iraq tell me. Also what my sister, who was wounded in Iraq tells me ( especially about how the wounded have been treated ). I also trust my own experiences with what the VA has become under Bushco

You are nothing but a Bush bootlicker who does not really even give a damn about the troops. “Support the Troops” is just an empty slogan coming from you neocon bootlickers.

You are full of it, Roger(x2)

  119. hellinabucket Says:

Roger Roger, Wayne brings some very strong convictions with his statement. He appears to speak with more than just a knee jerk reaction to Bush.

Your argument bounces from fighting for our freedom in Iraq (which I have never been convinced of) and staying in Iraq to fix what we broke. Why is it that we have to “fix” it with our military? Why not an increase in economic aid?

I don’t trust the same administration that broke it to fix it and I certainly can’t justify the death of one more soldier or marine in the false name of keeping us free or providing them security.

  120. Roger_Roger Says:

  122. puakev Says:

I don’t see how Malkin can judge Sally Field to be a mother who would buy her kids beer and condoms just from an anti-war statement. But based on Malkin’s tendency to make judgments about people based on no facts or reason at all, I can judge her to be of reprehensible character.

After all, this is the woman after all who
    1) claimed that an Iraqi captain “Jamil Hussein”, who reported on 6 Sunnis being set on fire, did not exist, only to be embarrassingly proven wrong when Iraq Ministry of the Interior confirmed that Jamil Hussein did in fact exist,
    2) claimed, despite having no evidence, that John Kerry shot himself in Vietnam in order to get a Purple Heart despite, you know, what the guys who were with him in Vietnam said,
    3) thinks Joseph McCarthy was right and a great man despite what practically all historians think, and
    4) believes that we were right to put Japanese in concentration camps and confiscate all their property during World War II.

  123. pbg Says:

If we were winning we’d have won.
Our army is hideously overstretched, we are hunkered down in the green zone, and we don’t even control the road to the airport.
If we were acting as a damper on violence, can anybody cite one single instance where we intervened in a firefight and stopped it?
No, we just send out patrols to get shot at, kill a bunch of people that could be Al Qaeda or Shiites or hapless civilians–and then go back and crunch numbers so that it shows we’re winning.
This isn’t even Vietnam, where they fed us spurious numbers of people we killed to assure us we were winning.
No, they’re feeding us crime statistics–details of what these guys are doing to those guys, which proves we’re winning!. Not sorties flown, not territory gained–crime statistics.
It’s like the Crips and the Bloods shooting it out, and when there’s a lull in the fighting, the LAPD shouts “Success!”
Does Petraeus speak Arabic? No? Then how does he know AT ALL what’s happening in Iraq? Why. of vourse he can trust his Iraqi interpreters!
With millions of internal refugees, and millions fleeing the country, what is thte US doing about it? Doesn’t that come under the Pottery Barn theory?
We aren’t trying to secure the borders,m we aren’t trying to secure the oil pipelines, we aren’t trying to bring aid to the refugees. Just hunkered down.

It really doesn’t matter if the wingnuts don’t believe we’ve lost. Osama Bin Laden knows we’ve lost. Vladimir Putin knows we’ve lost. The rest of the world knows we’ve lost. And we’ve lost in a war we chose, at the time we chose, amd using white phosphorous on people and torturing them in our fortress of evil. We brought in mercenaries–and if you think because it’s called Blackwater that they’re Americanns, think again. Russian Spetsnaz, Ex central American Death Squad members, Stasi, South Africann ex-polce,you nsme it. Many of those would never get into this country with their records. And free of thte UCMJ, or any rules for that matter. And we’re still losing.

George Bush has had four years to win his war, with the largest and most technologically advanced army the world has ever seen. He was give an as much money as he asked for, with absolutely no strings attached. If he had asked for a draft he’d have gotten one.

And he’s got us hunkered down in the Green Zone, while Iraqi kills Iraqi and we follow it like it’s fantasy baseball.

Even if we throw the bums out, bring the troops home, we will never lead the world again. Europe watches our sinking currency, our horrifying medical system, our news media and they shake their heads. They look at Michael Savage and Michelle Malkin–and they will not see the America of Eisennhowet, Kennnedy, Bill Clinton, or even George Herbet Walker Bush.

    they see a ruin.

You should be embarrassed for yourself first: unable to spell, punctuate and use capital letters to start a sentence–something I learned in elementary school. Oh, that’s right; you only went to “elementry” school.
Moreover, you are the biggest and most pathetic hypocrite of all: always posting bile and hatred here, while accusing those to the left of you of being full of hatred. Typical Rovian tactic of accusing your ideological opponent of what you are guilty of. Sorry, sosad, that doesn’t work on me.

Michelle Malkin is the kind of mother to raise a Pol Pot and be proud of it.

Poor Ms. Malkin, it is really hard to watch a person who attacks others to disguise her self-hatred. The poor girl wishes beyond measure that she were a blue-eyed, blond, white woman, and no matter how much money she gets and how great her fulminations it won’t be enough to make her white.

Michael Jackson sliced off his face in the same quest that Ms. Malkin slices off her decency, only Jackson was an artist and Malkin is a hack.
