Rumsfeld speech nixed after ‘too many people objected.’

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld was supposed to speak to the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce in Kansas on Dec. 4. But today the Wichita Eagle reports that his appearance was quietly canceled last month after “too many people objected.”

The Chamber, which is traditionally conservative, is now expecting to hear from former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, who recently joined the speaker’s circuit.

Hey, Rummy is lucky, at least they didn’t Taser him!

  2. Badmoodman says:

It’s pretty bad when even Rummy has to say, “We’re not in Kansas anymore.”

  3. upside99 says:

Gotta really suck when you get bumped by Snow-job.

Rummy, just go away to your compound in Arroyo Seco, NM and let the world try to clean up your sh!t streak, OK?

  4. dim wit says:

and after Tony Snow’s speech some nutjob will give a speech about how people and dinosaurs co-existed peacefully.
or maybe that is Tony Snow’s speech.

  5. Chris L says:

Wow! Kansas? The super red of the red states? Brownback’s Kansas? I would have thought they would have been happy to hear from Rumsfeld. I wonder what changed.

  6. DigDug says:

It’s good to see that bum being treated like the disgrace that he is.

  7. missmolly says:

This will be good for Tony. I hear he needs the money.

  9. Menehune says:

#6…Remember, Rumsfeld is now accepted as a failure, the scapegoat for everything the administration did wrong in Iraq. The glorious success of the surge could only happen once he was thrown overboard. It’s OK to hate Rumsfeld, even on the right wing–notice that they replaced him with Tony Snow

  10. katy says:

that “tony needs money” line just cracks me up…
the repugs are always lecturing about choices and planning…
seems tony’s choices have been underperforming for him…
and now he’s out to profit from LIES…

but that is a step up from rummy…

  11. Chris L says:

#10 – Thanks for the clarification. I wasn’t aware of this, and it seems that not all of the right-wing (Jake) got the memo that it’s Rummy-bashing time.

  12. barfly says:

“Could it be the people of Kansas are — evolving?!”

Nah, they just don’t like to be reminded of how foolish they were for swallowing the WMD bait. Who would want to listen to an hour and a half of CYA rhetoric coming from this bum, knowing how wrong he was in the past? It would be like listening to Custer recount the failures of his troops at Little Big Horn.

Some people don’t like to sit and listen to a pack of lies, either. I know I’m not too keen on it, especially if the venue doesn’t allow the listener to call the speaker on the lies. I doubt Rumsfeld is going to put himself in the position of actually having to answer hard questions from anyone.

Rummy would just start going thru his circuitous act.

Somewhere, we know where, in the East, slightly to the West, are the weapons, sattelites, since moved, Southerly, and somewhat the size of California, that is Northern, we will find them here of there maybe somewhere else that we know and by we I mean me who is also myself and I as well. Learn to say “I don’t know.” If used when appropriate, it will be often. If you foul up, tell the president and correct it fast. Delay only compounds mistakes.

I dunno, Colonel. Today’s polls are beyond meaningless. The 50% of Americans who even bother to vote will not seriously tune in til September 08; everyone on this list is by definition a political junkie – there is no way to know what the state of play will be a year from now.
