Beck Calls Rev. Jackson’s Obama Statement ‘Racist,’ Ignores His Own Similar Comments»

Last night on his CNN Headline News show, Glenn Beck criticized Rev. Jesse Jackson’s statement that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) was “acting white,” calling it an “unbelievable racist statement“:

BECK: Beyond that, here’s where the trouble really, for me, it just kind of goes off the tracks. You’ve got Jesse Jackson, the week that he says Barack Obama is acting white, which is an unbelievable racist statement.

I mean, if I said, “I don’t know. I don’t think I can vote for that Rudy Giuliani, because he’s acting a little black” he’d be picketing in front of my building tonight.

But Beck has made almost identical comments about Obama in the past. As Media Matters noted at the time, Glenn Beck called Obama “very white” twice on his radio show on Feb. 12:

BECK: Yeah, I — you know, I was driving in today, and I was seeing — because I saw this piece with him on 60 Minutes — and I thought to myself, he [Obama] is — he’s very white in many ways.

GIORDANO: Uh-huh.

BECK: And I thought to myself: Gee, can I even say that? Can I even say that without somebody else starting a campaign saying, “What does he mean, ‘He’s very white?’ ” He is. He’s very white.

Later in the segment he added, “I think he’s colorless. You don’t notice that he is black. So he might as well be white, you know what I mean?”

Watch the two clips:

Does Beck also believe his own statements were unbelievably “racist”?

You dont say? More conservative hypocrisy?

  2. gummitch Says:

Priceless. But, honestly, is Beck’s audience of 12 people capable of absorbing this?

    You missed a golden opportunity.

So far I’ve only seen one source for Jackson’s comments which are denied by Jackson in the very same article. Has anyone seen any corroboration that he said that?

The way this has bounced around the right-wing echo chamber makes me suspicious.

  11. dim wit Says:

Both Jackson and Beck are f*cking idiots who like to hear themselves talk so they feel important.

These two idiots ought to try to learn something from Obama instead criticizing him.

  12. Roger_Roger Says:

Beck is a racist. Does that mean it is ok for anyone to support a racist like Jesse Jackson? Both men are in it for monetary gain and both are evil. This isn’t really news though. Everyone knew Jesse Jackson is a racist for many years now.

I heard Jackson on CNN yesterday morning. When he was asked about this remark he side-stepped the issue. He never denied making it - stating he was “misinterpreted”

But don’t worry, here’s the original comment so you can respond to him:

You know, Roger deux, there comes a time in every young adult’s life where they are asked to “Put Up, or Shut Up!”. This is almost as a passage to adulthood.
    Well, this is your time!
    Put Up, or Shut Up!
Show us exactly the horrid statements that were made bashing our troops in the MoveOn.org ad.

I responded in the other thread. BTW, anyone that doesn’t think Jesse Jackson is a raging racist is blind. The man is out for himself only. He values his power and his money above all else. He is scared to death of Obama because he could distract from the mass’ giving there cash and support to Jackson. While Jackson is an evil racist, Obama is a real leader. BTW, Obama currently has my vote.

  30. Roger_Roger Says:

Once we remove race hustlers like Jackson, Sharpton, and the Clintons, America will be a better place.

  31. chasemonster Says:

Be extremely cautious whenever cable news networks start sticking up for certain Democratic presidential candidates.
They are only doing it to skew public opinion in the Republican Party’s favor.
CNN or FOX News can talk all day about how wonderful Barack Obama is because Obama CAN’T WIN heads up against the Republican candidate.
    Same with Edwards.
No matter what the polls say now, come election time Obama or Edwards don’t stand a chance against the media-fueled Republican machine.

You know who are superstar is!
Either get behind her, or face another 8 years of living hell.

  32. Veritas Says:

Beck, the Biggest Bigot on the planet, is calling someone else “racist”??

  33. Veritas Says:

Chasemonster: I wish I could feel safe in the MSM’s and the GOP’s courting of Hillary. Personally I think they having swiftboated her Whitewater or Foster stuff YET because they are hoping for her to become Candidate Hillary and then they will bury her with it all - believing then to have a “slamdunk” into the white house with their guy. And there’s still something about Hillary not to be trusted completely as well. She was a Rethug for decades and still has some of the war-mongering mindset which they do. She voted “yes” for the war when others did not. Does this mean she was easily fooled? Is this an attribute we want in our next president - one who is easily defrauded?

At the same time, it could be argued that Hillary, above all, should have had more background (8 years in the white house) and experience with this type of thing than anyone else…making her vote “yes” not only a result of being duped but culpably negligent due to her inside information.

She’s also never admitted directly that Hillary made a very serious mistake in her own judgment. She’s always passing the buck to Bush and how he lied and duped everyone. It just doesn’t pass muster to me.

  34. Veritas Says:

Of course, the scenario I forsee might looking something like this: Hillary and Mitt in the “finals” and then the GOP swiftboats Hillary while 60% of americans move to the left of Mitt. Then the majority of people realize that their candidate has become ‘damaged goods’ which will pave the way for an Independent to enter the race….named Michael Bloomberg who doesn’t need one red cent of special interest (blackmail) money from anyone. Maybe he’ll pick Ron Paul as his running mate which will finally unite this country - Repukes and Dems alike.

  35. Dr.Know Says:

Then vote for Biden. I’m going to. GO JOE!

  47. Roger_Roger Says:

#44 People like Jackson, Sharpton, and the Clintons pit the races against each other for politcal gain. It breaks the country apart and reinforces the idea of inequality. It also produces tons of different groups of people that feel entitled to new programs and money. These people basically create tensions and stress where there wasn’t any. It is sad, but you get that sorta thing in a free country I guess.

  48. upside99 Says:

    Comment by Roger_Roger — September 21, 2007 @ 5:27 pm

OK, so there wasn’t any race issues before Jackson, Sharpton and the Clinton’s? Now, THAT is real news to me!

And, of course, there is no “real” inequality in this country? Care to measure average wages between African Americans and Whites?

And entitlement is a product of Minorities? WHat about all the entitlements the rich get with their tax cuts, the CEO’s of companies making 1,000’s times that of their average worker, the billions in tax breaks for the oil companies?

And let’s find out what the Clinton’s have to do with any of this?

Sounds like someone here is afraid of the landslide turnout in 08…. and it won’t be for the Repug cnadidates, will it?

    Sorry but no thank you.
I did that last time with John “foot in the mouth disease” Kerry.
Kerry was the candidate the Republicans knew they could defeat, and lo and behold he ended up being our primary winner. What a coincidence!
Want to see that happen again??? The right-wing media does!!!
We need to get behind Hillary Clinton … NOW … TODAY!
    Before it’s too late!
After the primaries, we might get stuck with another sure-fire loser (i.e. Obama or Edwards) again.
The ONLY Democrat that can win against the Republican Party and the Republican Party-controlled media is Hillary Clinton!
Get behind her now or face another 8 years of misery.
