Coburn not putting hold on presidential records bill.»

Yesterday, ThinkProgress noted that Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) was suspected of putting a secret hold on a bill that would restore public access to Presidential records that President Bush had sealed indefinitely with an executive order. In the comments of the ThinkProgress post, however, someone on Coburn’s staff wrote in to say that the Oklahoman is not the senator putting the hold on the bill:

The office of Sen. Tom Coburn would like to state for the record that he is not holding this bill related to presidential records. It is true that he placed a hold on the bill following its passage through the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee in June, but has since worked out his minor concern with the office of Sen. Joseph Lieberman at which time he lifted his hold.

Joe Lieberman, is that you back there in the shadows?

  2. TripMaster Monkey Says:

Again, how the hell did ’secret holds’ become a part of how Congress works?

  3. Menehune Says:

    Has anyone asked Hillary?

  4. Candyce Says:

    “for the record”

Next we’ll have Jake claiming to be on Coburn’s staff.

  5. missmolly Says:

    So, if not Coburn, who?

  6. Candyce Says:

Suspicion for the hold initially focused on three senators, Ted Stevens of Alaska, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, and George Voinovich of Ohio. On Wednesday offices of Stevens and Voinovich said they weren’t the ones. Now Coburn says he isn’t the one.

  7. Jay Randal Says:

How is it possible for one secret Senator to do this?

  8. Zimzone Says:

Is it feasible Cheney could do this?

  9. Jay Randal Says:

LIEberman would do anything for his lover Dubya, so he is probably the culprit.

  10. missmolly Says:

Here are the Senators on the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee:

    Lieberman (ID-CT) — chairman
    Akaka (D-HI)
    Carper (D-DE)
    Coburn (R-OK)
    Coleman (R-MN)
    Collins (R-ME)
    Domenici (R-NM)
    Landrieu (D-LA)
    Levin (D-MI)
    McCaskill (D-MO)
    Obama (D-IL)
    Pryor (D-AR)
    Stevens (R-AK)
    Sununu (R-NH)
    Tester (D-MT)
    Voinovich (R-OH)
    Warner (R-VA)

Any thoughts on which one is the “secret blocker”?

  11. Jay Randal Says:

missmolly > Domenici could be the one too. He is a slave for Dubya.

  12. Candyce Says:

Scratch off Sununu and Cornyn, they are co-sponsors. Collins openly supports the legislation, so not her.

I’m gonna say Sneaky Joe Lieberman.

  13. Zimzone Says:

My vote is Lips Lieberman or Nasty Norm Coleman

  14. Bush is a four letter word Says:

Pizza Man is cutting a deal with the DOJ to kill his investigation quid pro quo…

Right there in the thread where ThinkProgress claimed he was the one blocking the bill. Whoops. Silly me, there’s no such thread. There’s one where (based on the Dallas News article) where they say that A GOP Senator is blocking the bill.

From the article: “with Senate officials confirming Wednesday that a Republican senator is secretly blocking a bill”.

Sen. Coburn was the prime suspect, since he had already blocked another bill. But no, it’s another GOP Senator that’s doing it.

  19. katy Says:

yea… when i read this yesterday - Aides to Sens. Stevens and Voinovich said Wednesday that their bosses are not blocking the bill. - i wanted to ask, “you don’t think they would lie, would you?

    so now, who’s lying?

  20. katy Says:

    hey!
TP - you switched it! thanks!
    i like it! :-)

  21. ohcomeon Says:

  22. TripMaster Monkey Says:

    Jake D. sez:

Lieberman is about as “independent” as you are, Shakey.

  23. dixie blood Says:

    RU,

I vote LIEberman has placed the hold…

  24. Chocolate Jesus Says:

    Thank god republicans never lie.
