You may have noticed that next to each “thumbs up” icon in the comments section, we have added a number in parentheses that lets you know how many users have recommended that comment. We hope you’ll take advantage of that tool by highlighting quality contributions in the comments section. Also, remember that you can view the highest rated comments simply by clicking on “top rated” at the top of the comments section of each post.
“We hope you’ll take advantage of that tool…”
September 21st, 2007 at 8:09 pm- – Which tool… Roger, Jason, etc. …?
Your “User Profile” will not let me change my password from the one sent to me. It also shows none of the other information I entered. What to do?
September 21st, 2007 at 8:13 pmCan’t we do a negative for people like Jake? :)
September 21st, 2007 at 8:39 pmI’m almost afraid to jinx myself by mentioning this, but . . . the problem of disappearing comments while posting appears to have disappeared and, clearly, the new registration means that the “null” fields problem has disapp
Heh, just kidding.
September 21st, 2007 at 8:57 pmWhat happens if we click on our own post? Do we get demerits?
September 21st, 2007 at 9:26 pmThank you! I just tried it and got my answer.
September 21st, 2007 at 9:27 pmI have a suggestion TP. Make two columns. A progressive column for serious and thought-provoking comments and a troll column for asinine and dumbing-down comments.
September 21st, 2007 at 9:40 pmClyde the Ripper,
I’ve been wondering the same thing myself.
Good thing you volunteered to be our Guinea pig ;-)
This registration system sure was like a spray of Trolls-B-Gone!
And it’s so nice to see my comments stay put on the thread, instead of mysteriously vanishing or never showing up….
September 21st, 2007 at 9:41 pmCan I recommend myself? *sniff*
September 21st, 2007 at 9:42 pmThinkProgress was linked on Roseanne’s blog today!

thanks, Roseanne!
September 21st, 2007 at 9:56 pmPhew, as a grandmother type this was not easy, but finally received a new username & password. Maybe others are having a difficult time too? The old username, just plain Evergreen, said I had the wrong email address.
September 21st, 2007 at 10:02 pmTP, this is working out very well. Thanks.
September 21st, 2007 at 10:29 pmThis just in, Feds investigating allegations that Blackwater is smuggling american weapons to terrorist groups in Iraq…

“The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Raleigh, North Carolina, is handling the investigation with help from Pentagon and State Department auditors, who have concluded there is enough evidence to file charges, the officials told The Associated Press. “
September 21st, 2007 at 11:02 pmThe new system is a GREAT improvement. However, I think that a “Thumbs Down” vote would be more useful, especially when sorting by “Top Rated”, than the “Abuse Report”.
It would probably also ease up the workload of the moderators, to not have to investigate every “Abuse” report.
September 21st, 2007 at 11:07 pmAlso an option to set a default sorting choice, in the user preferences, would be quite useful too.
September 21st, 2007 at 11:08 pmThanks, Faiz, and the wonderful staff of TP. You came through as promised, and I applaud the upgrades. Seriously, you did a great job. Thank you very much.
September 21st, 2007 at 11:09 pmLooking Good.
It is so much easier to actually read now, with not having to skip big blocks of troll droppings any more. =)
Awsome improvement.
September 21st, 2007 at 11:58 pmIt would probably also ease up the workload of the moderators, to not have to investigate every “Abuse†report.

Yeah, similar to slashdot.org.
September 22nd, 2007 at 12:02 amTroll ratings can make you not see able, depending on the user setable filters for the ratings.
Woo, I am up to three! Can I get a cupie doll prize, preferrably one with a bobble head and velcro feet that lights up when I apply the brakes?
September 22nd, 2007 at 1:34 amLook out, everybody, Iran’s about to invade Poland!
By the way, ron, Ahmadinejad is not anti-semitic, just anti- israel, with good reason, in fact, the same reasons you’re citing in your inaccurate characterization. The same reasons the American government gives for the insane embargo on Cuba. Israel has been the American government’s pit bull in the ME for decades, and it’s hardly any wonder that the neighbors are sick and tired of a nuclear-armed bully in their midst.
September 22nd, 2007 at 2:04 amWhat do the shrinking dollar, the upcoming war with Iran and something falling out of the sky in Peru have in common? A possible military coup in the U.S., of course. Read it here.
September 22nd, 2007 at 4:38 amI got registered and changed to my preferred password in minutes, now I’ll see how long it takes my comment to appear. 5:30
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:30 amQuick action. Columbia has a history as pointed out by #19. Futher history shows many top families at the time supported Hitler. This guy from Iran is a kook, IMO, and poses no threat to us. This may be a good thing in actually showing just how much of a “kook” he really is by the Q and A part of the visit.

September 22nd, 2007 at 6:27 amI was getting frustrated because TP hadn’t sent me my password.
September 22nd, 2007 at 7:29 amThen I checked my spam e-mails, which my filter had blocked….and there it was :). Apparently, my computer thought your e-mail was spam. Bad computer.
I can’t imagine someone giving a thumbs up to some of the (troll) posts I’ve seen. Are they boosting themselves? Are they getting a little help from sock puppets or troll friends?
September 22nd, 2007 at 8:51 amHuzzah!
Thank you TP, for implementing thee improvements.
September 22nd, 2007 at 9:57 am# 26 – “I was getting frustrated because TP hadn’t sent me my password.

Comment by Badger — September 22, 2007 @ 7:29 am
I had the same problem, Badger. Our spam filters must be set the same.
I join everyone (except nasty troll “ron,” of course {# 19}) in congratulating TP for this much needed improvement.
Like many others, I call for a “thumbs down” option. This would help identify trolls, like “ron,” more easily than the “Report Abuse” option.
Nevertheless, kudos to Think Progress for a much needed improvement!
