Comments upgrade.

Comments upgrade.

You may have noticed that next to each “thumbs up” icon in the comments section, we have added a number in parentheses that lets you know how many users have recommended that comment. We hope you’ll take advantage of that tool by highlighting quality contributions in the comments section. Also, remember that you can view the highest rated comments simply by clicking on “top rated” at the top of the comments section of each post.

    - – Which tool… Roger, Jason, etc. …?

  2. Thinking Person says:

Your “User Profile” will not let me change my password from the one sent to me. It also shows none of the other information I entered. What to do?

  3. Vinnie says:

Can’t we do a negative for people like Jake? :)

  4. gummitch says:

I’m almost afraid to jinx myself by mentioning this, but . . . the problem of disappearing comments while posting appears to have disappeared and, clearly, the new registration means that the “null” fields problem has disapp

    Heh, just kidding.

  5. Clyde the Ripper says:

What happens if we click on our own post? Do we get demerits?

  6. Clyde the Ripper says:

Thank you! I just tried it and got my answer.

  7. republicans are the Fear and Smear Party says:

I have a suggestion TP. Make two columns. A progressive column for serious and thought-provoking comments and a troll column for asinine and dumbing-down comments.

  8. Gregor Samsa says:

    Clyde the Ripper,

I’ve been wondering the same thing myself.

Good thing you volunteered to be our Guinea pig ;-)

This registration system sure was like a spray of Trolls-B-Gone!

And it’s so nice to see my comments stay put on the thread, instead of mysteriously vanishing or never showing up….

  9. Xisithrus says:

    Can I recommend myself? *sniff*

ThinkProgress was linked on Roseanne’s blog today!

    thanks, Roseanne!

  11. Evergreen2U says:

Phew, as a grandmother type this was not easy, but finally received a new username & password. Maybe others are having a difficult time too? The old username, just plain Evergreen, said I had the wrong email address.

  12. Marie says:

TP, this is working out very well. Thanks.

  13. Chocolate Jesus says:

This just in, Feds investigating allegations that Blackwater is smuggling american weapons to terrorist groups in Iraq…

    http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/09/21/blackwater.probe.ap/index.html

“The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Raleigh, North Carolina, is handling the investigation with help from Pentagon and State Department auditors, who have concluded there is enough evidence to file charges, the officials told The Associated Press. “

  14. JPV says:

The new system is a GREAT improvement. However, I think that a “Thumbs Down” vote would be more useful, especially when sorting by “Top Rated”, than the “Abuse Report”.

It would probably also ease up the workload of the moderators, to not have to investigate every “Abuse” report.

  15. JPV says:

Also an option to set a default sorting choice, in the user preferences, would be quite useful too.

  16. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Thanks, Faiz, and the wonderful staff of TP. You came through as promised, and I applaud the upgrades. Seriously, you did a great job. Thank you very much.

  17. Wayne says:

    Looking Good.

It is so much easier to actually read now, with not having to skip big blocks of troll droppings any more. =)

    Awsome improvement.

    Yeah, similar to slashdot.org.
Troll ratings can make you not see able, depending on the user setable filters for the ratings.

  19. Xisithrus says:

Woo, I am up to three! Can I get a cupie doll prize, preferrably one with a bobble head and velcro feet that lights up when I apply the brakes?

  20. Lefty Patriot says:

Look out, everybody, Iran’s about to invade Poland!

By the way, ron, Ahmadinejad is not anti-semitic, just anti- israel, with good reason, in fact, the same reasons you’re citing in your inaccurate characterization. The same reasons the American government gives for the insane embargo on Cuba. Israel has been the American government’s pit bull in the ME for decades, and it’s hardly any wonder that the neighbors are sick and tired of a nuclear-armed bully in their midst.

  21. Uranus says:

What do the shrinking dollar, the upcoming war with Iran and something falling out of the sky in Peru have in common? A possible military coup in the U.S., of course. Read it here.

  22. lylepink says:

I got registered and changed to my preferred password in minutes, now I’ll see how long it takes my comment to appear. 5:30

  23. lylepink says:

Quick action. Columbia has a history as pointed out by #19. Futher history shows many top families at the time supported Hitler. This guy from Iran is a kook, IMO, and poses no threat to us. This may be a good thing in actually showing just how much of a “kook” he really is by the Q and A part of the visit.

  25. Badger says:

I was getting frustrated because TP hadn’t sent me my password.
Then I checked my spam e-mails, which my filter had blocked….and there it was :). Apparently, my computer thought your e-mail was spam. Bad computer.

  26. TheToonGuy says:

I can’t imagine someone giving a thumbs up to some of the (troll) posts I’ve seen. Are they boosting themselves? Are they getting a little help from sock puppets or troll friends?

  27. Technodaoist says:

    Huzzah!

Thank you TP, for implementing thee improvements.

  28. hterrya says:

    # 26 – “I was getting frustrated because TP hadn’t sent me my password.
Then I checked my spam e-mails, which my filter had blocked….and there it was :).”

    Comment by Badger — September 22, 2007 @ 7:29 am

I had the same problem, Badger. Our spam filters must be set the same.

I join everyone (except nasty troll “ron,” of course {# 19}) in congratulating TP for this much needed improvement.

Like many others, I call for a “thumbs down” option. This would help identify trolls, like “ron,” more easily than the “Report Abuse” option.

Nevertheless, kudos to Think Progress for a much needed improvement!
