(As if having the central bank controlling the government is preferable...) First of all (and I wish Terry Gross had grilled him on this), after paying off the national debt, rather than "invest the surplus in the market", perhaps we as a nation would have substantially upgraded our infrastructure: a national system of high-speed passenger rail, universal health care, freedom from foreign energy sources, etc. Of course, thanks to the supremely fatal bush v. gore decision, we'll never know. Bush has set this nation on a course of utter ruin. This guy definitely needs to be retired from public view. He's a personal disgrace.
