Number of people worldwide who believe that action on global warming is necessary, according to a new BBC poll. An average of 79 percent in the 21 countries surveyed agreed that “human activity, including industry and transportation, is a significant cause of climate change.”

Are they Americans? What the hell do they know?
/sarcasm
September 24th, 2007 at 9:03 pm90% world wide.
I'm guess the other 10% are GWB supporters.
September 24th, 2007 at 9:06 pmguessing,..... oops.
September 24th, 2007 at 9:07 pmFrom the graphic, do I detect that those near the equator are more worried than those in mid-latitudes ? (Of course, I'm ignoring that the Sami and Eskimos are seriously worried about their future without ice.)
September 24th, 2007 at 9:07 pmChina, Australia, and Great Britain have the same polling numbers?
That's weird. And the US is tied... with Turkey?
September 24th, 2007 at 9:07 pmClearly these 90% are terrorists and should be bombed immediately.

September 24th, 2007 at 9:08 pm"Even if EVERY AMERICAN stopped poluting today, the rest of the world will continue and therefore “global warming†would still happen."
Comment by Jake D.
Boeing alone pollutes more than 60% of individual developing countries.
September 24th, 2007 at 9:12 pmThe "Goner's": VA and FLA
Doesn't matter about Americans.
The world is much larger than your narrow view.
It's a forgone conclusion.
September 24th, 2007 at 9:13 pm"China is no longer a “developing†country and account for the worst polution:"
I knew he couldn't resist replying to me. So much for that list...
Anyway, to address Jake's point: I said "countries" which if memory serves, still means more than one...
September 24th, 2007 at 9:19 pmOn the bright side, the US scored better than Nigeria and India.
Go us.
Now I'm going to burn a big drum of fossil fuel and go hunting with Dick Cheney. That's how little I value human life.
September 24th, 2007 at 9:21 pmOT:
Now we're baiting Iraqis.
September 24th, 2007 at 9:24 pmThat’s weird. And the US is tied… with Turkey?
Comment by barfly — September 24, 2007 @ 9:07 pm
That's because of all the Turkeys like Jake D. that live in the US.
September 24th, 2007 at 9:49 pmChina is a major polluter, and as long as we remain major polluters as well, China has no reason to do anything about it. When the world's leader decides to sacrifice its future generations to Big Oil and Big Murder, Inc. (Bushco), why should anyone else do anything about it? Leadership used to be important to us; now, with a Deserter as president, there is no leadership, only laziness, cowardice, greed and incompetence, the Conservative hallmarks for many centuries. Conservatives will end human life on planet earth; that's how short-sighted they are.
September 24th, 2007 at 10:04 pmEvery Bushite getting rich on bush's anti-environmental policies would be that one in ten! If they wouldn't be filling their coffers with polluting the environment, perhaps they'd have a change of heart and maybe even an epiphany spiritually.
September 24th, 2007 at 10:05 pmAnd just because China is also a major polluter whom we may not be able to control or curtail does not mean that we, as another major polluter, don't know better. After all, these bible thumping christians profess to be "stewards of the planet", dont' they? Or is that just a convenient charade?
September 24th, 2007 at 10:07 pmI've never understood the argument that we shouldn't take action because, well, China won't. What does that mean? Shouldn't we do it because we will benefit from it regardless of what others do? It's like people who won't use low energy bulbs. Don't do it for the environment if it bugs you that much, but do it so you won't have to buy bulbs for 10 years (like me) and you will save on your electric bill. That way you can call yourself smart and frugal without worrying about being called an eco-freak. One small step at a time.
September 24th, 2007 at 10:16 pmFor the record, yours is a broken one.
September 24th, 2007 at 10:34 pmin heavy use, they sometimes only last 5 years — still more cost-effective to use the old, cheap bulbs.
Comment by Jake D. — September 24, 2007 @ 10:32 pm
FYI, in order to do NOTHING, as you propose, is easy enough that we don't need your advice on how to accomplish nothing.
September 24th, 2007 at 11:03 pmJake can't see the forest because of the clear-cutting.
September 24th, 2007 at 11:12 pmVeritas--the fundies' attitude towards 'stewardship of the Earth' is more like an episode of Flip This House.
September 24th, 2007 at 11:35 pmJesus is gonna come back before the balloon payment's due!
#20...priceless
September 25th, 2007 at 12:13 am"For the record, the argument is that even if EVERY American completely stopped poluting today, the rest of the world will continue and therefore “global warming†would still happen. As for compact fluorescent bulbs that cost $3 — in heavy use, they sometimes only last 5 years — still more cost-effective to use the old, cheap bulbs."
Comment by Jake D.
If this nonsense originated in some astroturf think-tank, it only shows how easy it is to bilk some trust-fund millionaires with more money than common sense. For one thing, it begins with false equivalence: Bill Gates (for example) has a carbon footprint several orders of magnitude larger than an any average American. Jake's "Every American" assertion presupposes an equal amount of pollution generated by individual Americans - an assertion too laughable to seriously contemplate. There is literally no way this spurious statistic can be true, as it would entail possession (and subsequent extrapolation) of information that is not available in the public realm, as it would also include the "American" military - a group of individuals who seriously skew any theoretical "pollution calculation" of "all Americans."
September 25th, 2007 at 12:23 amIt's worse than jake or sasquatch ever thought.
Lesbians and blacks have now turned 9 out of 10 people on earth into raving-moonbat-kook-lefty-libtard-zombies!!!!
Call out the Civil Defense!!
Rush to your bomb shelters, and make sure the AM radio has lots of batteries!!!!
I'll meet you guys down there in a couple of years, k??
September 25th, 2007 at 1:04 amI hardly believe industry is the main contributor to global warming, it is a big one and BP and co are certainly not helping, but I think the biggest cause of all these gases is human McTivity. It's the C.O.W.S., not the S.U.V.'s, as Bill Maher said it most recently.
September 25th, 2007 at 6:35 amI see that the concept of leadership might as well not even exist in Jake's mind. Very typical Republican thinking. No one is responsible for anything, least of all their own behavior. Right Jake?
September 25th, 2007 at 9:41 amBollocks.
This is propaganda aimed at getting the USA to finally surrender sovereignty to the UN and become a good little member of the "global community", i.e. the reconstituted British Empire.
Those who do not know their history are condemned, forever, to repeat it.
