At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing this morning, Director of National Intelligence Michael McConnell reaffirmed that public discussion of the administration’s surveillance program would lead to the “killing of Americans.” Via TPM:
McConnell is trying to kill free speech and Democratic process–shame on him. Another good man who served honestly and well has been turned to the dark side!
We need to tell these stupid scaredycats to buy an underground bunker and they can run their own show–below ground.
I am over the fear bullsh*t that seems to be the only thing they have…..
If we actually exercise our freedoms we will die so we must give up our freedoms to live and thus save our freedoms that are being safeguarded for us by the likes of this adminsitration. It’s dizzying trying to figure it out.
Me I think I’d rather take my chances with the possibility of death by terrorism over life in terror.
How did this man get to become associated with intelligence?

‘McConnell, 63, is a career intelligence professional who headed the National Security Agency from 1992 to 1996. After his retirement from the Navy, he took a private-sector job as senior vice president of the Booz Allen Hamilton consulting firm. He stands to become the second director of national intelligence, a post created as a result of a broad reorganization that followed the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.’
‘McConnell said his private-sector work during the past 10 years “has allowed me to stay focused on national security and intelligence communities as a strategist and as a consultant.” In many respects, he said, “I never left” the intelligence business.’
Just trust us, we’re not spying on you! Even though our minions in the media are constantly questioning whose side you’re on, and insinuating that you’re in league with the terrorists and you want them to win — we assure you we’re not spying on you.
Another scare tactic to try to cow the population into submission and not to fight for their Constitutional rights which are being constantly violated by the Orwellian f*ckwits in Congress, Republicans and Democrats.
‘The most intriguing secrets of the “war on terror” have nothing to do with al-Qaeda and its fellow travelers. They’re about the mammoth private spying industry that all but runs U.S. intelligence operations today.
Surprised? No wonder. In April, Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell was poised to publicize a year-long examination of outsourcing by U.S. intelligence agencies. But the report was inexplicably delayed — and suddenly classified a national secret. What McConnell doesn’t want you to know is that the private spy industry has succeeded where no foreign government has: It has penetrated the CIA and is running the show.’
‘Intelligence professionals tell me that more than 50 percent of the National Clandestine Service (NCS) — the heart, brains and soul of the CIA — has been outsourced to private firms such as Abraxas, Booz Allen Hamilton, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon.’
Any discussion about freedom of speech, use of torture and bill of rights will kill americans!
In other news, the authorities ask children to report on their parents anti government authorities. Kids! Come to your local Homeland Security office for a free candy!
This is how authoritarians get authoritarian followers to do their bidding. It is vital to everything they do to espouse the Dangerous World point of view. Commies under every bed and all that. Once you convince people that the word is dangerous, you can do just about anything you like and people will go along. Patriot Act. Habeas Corpus. War. Domestic Spying. Ironically, authoritarian followers cannot or will not recognize the real source of danger to “our way of life.” They are too busy cowering in the corners and happy to be willing accomplices to insurrection, all for the sake of false security from phantom dangers.
I have to disagree that McConnell “reaffirmed” anything. He acknowledged his prior testimony when Spector questioned and quoted him (McConnell) on it. I’m no fan of McConnell, but, comeon. We can do better than this.
Not that this adminstration would EVER, EVER, try to trick us, or lie to us, or disseminate any partial, misleading or otherwise untrue anything, right?
Isn’t the essence of being an American the willingness to give one’s life if need be to defend our freedoms? Isn’t that what true patriotism is all about?
did they ask him how? or prove it?
is it time to take these fear mongers out back and hang them by the neck til they are dead?
i think it is.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:08 pmThey won’t kill me. I’ve already planned to escape by unicorn when the DHS threat level goes red.

September 25th, 2007 at 12:15 pmAww, how quaint. Still playing the “fear” card.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:15 pmThe administration fibmasters are asserting “what you know will kill you.”
September 25th, 2007 at 12:15 pmWe need to tell these stupid scaredycats to buy an underground bunker and they can run their own show–below ground.

Someone tell this asshat to get back into Cheney’s man-sized safe and try not to piss all over himself.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:18 pmI don’t care how stupid McConnell might be, he can’t possibly believe what he is saying.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:20 pmCan somebody get this guy a new song to sing? This one has gotten old.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:22 pmTranslation:

September 25th, 2007 at 12:32 pmThis just in:
Any discussion about freedom of speech, use of torture and bill of rights will kill americans!
In other news, the authorities ask children to report on their parents anti government authorities. Kids! Come to your local Homeland Security office for a free candy!
September 25th, 2007 at 12:32 pmThe Bush administrations ill begotten war on a country with no connection to 911 has killed more Americans than 911 .
September 25th, 2007 at 12:36 pmBe afraid ,be very afraid .

Answer: The Bush adminstration!!!
September 25th, 2007 at 12:41 pmQUESTION AUTHORITY!!!
September 25th, 2007 at 12:42 pmI have to disagree that McConnell “reaffirmed” anything. He acknowledged his prior testimony when Spector questioned and quoted him (McConnell) on it. I’m no fan of McConnell, but, comeon. We can do better than this.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:44 pmUncle Ho
Well Said!
September 25th, 2007 at 12:47 pmPersonally, I think it’s scary that private companies are so heavily involved in intelligence matters.
Private companies such as Mike McConnell’s last employer.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:49 pmPublic discussion of the illegal surveillance program would only kill Republicans–so it’s OK.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:58 pmpublic discussion of the administration’s surveillance program would lead to the “killing of Americans.â€
In WW2, many soldiers DIED in order for americans (and people all over the world, too) to enjoy those freedoms.
Now they’re claiming that they’re doing away with those freedoms in order to avoid soldiers dying.
How the wheels have turned.

If that’s the case, then I’m definitely FOR it.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:33 pm.
Shhhh,
We’re killing Americans.
Silence is paramount.
.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:43 pmWow. Strong stuff.
And we should believe him, because….
Not that this adminstration would EVER, EVER, try to trick us, or lie to us, or disseminate any partial, misleading or otherwise untrue anything, right?
Right.
September 25th, 2007 at 2:25 pmThey won’t kill me. I’ve already planned to escape by unicorn when the DHS threat level goes red.
Comment by tombaker — September 25, 2007 @ 12:10 pm
Can’t say the same for Bush. I assume his fear of horses extends to unicorns and pegasii as well.
September 25th, 2007 at 2:33 pmFear mongering.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
If you speak of it, it will kill you.
If not you, then your children.
September 25th, 2007 at 2:34 pmBut OUTING THE IDENTITY OF CIA OPERATIVES WON’T HARM A FLY.
Right?
September 25th, 2007 at 2:42 pmIsn’t the essence of being an American the willingness to give one’s life if need be to defend our freedoms? Isn’t that what true patriotism is all about?
That must be what he meant, right?
September 25th, 2007 at 5:12 pmUh, yeah, but NOT speaking about it, will kill MORE Americans ashsole!
