In an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, President Bill Clinton said there was something “completely disingenuous about the feigned outrage” from conservatives over the MoveOn ad. Clinton noted that many of the same conservatives who expressed outrage had likened Sen. Max Cleland (D-GA) to Osama bin Laden and had smeared Sen. John Kerry’s (D-MA) war record. He added:
It was just bait and switch. It was just, oh thank goodness, I can take this little word here and ignore what we’ve done in Iraq and what we’re gonna do — and the outrageous way we gained political power by smearing John Kerry.
Watch it:
The House today voted to condemn the MoveOn ad — a full 16 days after it first appeared in the New York Times. The full interview with Clinton airs tonight on CNN at 10 pm EST.
Is it me or is this Bill at his best?
September 26th, 2007 at 9:30 pmWingnuts have lost their credibility, and have lost America. We must fight to get it back, if it’s still possible. Clean house on the Dem side as well, they should have nuked the repigs from the first day on.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:36 pm#1 - I’d agree - he’ll eventually become the kind of shining example of a former President that no Republican could ever hope to be in their wildest dreams, just like Jimmy Carter has.
Hillary bashing is pretty popular right now on bith sides, but it occurred to me today that she’s the only public figure ever to call the right-wing power grabbers to the carpet, and call it by name: “a vast right-wing conspiracy”, which is exactly what it is. A cabal propped up by old money that still has a chip on its shoulder over FDR and the New Deal (the last good thing the US government ever did for its citizens).
Watch the Ken Burns documentary on pbs, and marvel at how good a President can be, and how contemporary pretenders to the halls of power suck ass in comparison.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:39 pm#3, should read “both”, not “bith” - when will I ever manage to become a more accurate 3-fingered typist?
September 26th, 2007 at 9:41 pmGood for Bill.
It’s too bad that the Republicans just scared Hillary into voting for the Lieberman-Kyl condemnation of Iran.
It’s a set up Hillary. When Bush drops bombs on Iran, thanks to the Senate, you’ll look like a sucker, once again, for giving him the permission. The other Democratic candidates didn’t fall for it.
Why are you not learning the lesson?
September 26th, 2007 at 9:43 pmComment by Rory — September 26, 2007 @ 9:43 pm
What’s your point, Rory?
September 26th, 2007 at 9:45 pmBy a 341-79 vote, the U.S. House passed a resolution praising the patriotism of Gen. Petraeus and condemning a MoveOn.org ad. The vast majority of House Democrats, including Speaker of the House Pelosi, voted FOR the resolution . . .
Comment by Rory — September 26, 2007 @ 9:43 pm
well, modern politicians are gutless wonders, and the dems are gun-shy after having the White House and the senate stolen from them twice. Besides, so what? I mean, really. Notice that it didn’t phase MoveOn in the least; they are showing far more courage and patriotism than all but 79 representatives.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:46 pmThe big dog nails it.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:46 pmI don’t believe Pelosi, as Speaker, voted for the resolution to condemn MoveOn.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:47 pmIn fact, it’s no surprise that most of the establishment pols voted for a meaningless resolution; they are all running very scared of the power of the internet, and MoveOn represents that power, and a real threat to the bottom-feeders that are on the corporate teat. I think I’ll send them some money…
September 26th, 2007 at 9:48 pmWeird, Pelosi is not listed as voting at all, either yea, nay or even not voting according the roll call tally posted on the House Clerk’s page.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:54 pmRory sez:
No…he should rip them for being spineless collaborators and for betraying the trust of the voters who elected them.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:55 pmMy point is that Bill Clinton should also rip the VAST MAJORITY of Democratic Congressmen for ‘feigned outrage’, don’t you think?
Comment by Rory — September 26, 2007 @ 9:51 pm
Why would he do that? Why is it always the responsibility of the Democrats to be “bipartisan” and the Republicans are invariably just as partisan as it’s possible to be?
September 26th, 2007 at 9:56 pmI agree, he should. And many of us on the left-side of the blogsphere are ripping on the gutless turds on the Dem side who vote for this kind of crap. Your point?
September 26th, 2007 at 9:57 pmAll the GOP can do is bait and switch. Just like the trolls on these threads, they have absolutely nothing honest or credible on their side of the ledger so their singular option is to hijack the conversation away from this dispicable war, war profiteering, illegal spying, outsourcing of torture, violations of constitutional rights, and the antics of Republicans going down the tubes as criminals each day….GOP “Scandal Du Jour”.
It would take a gall-dang Houdini to elude the avalanche of $hit hitting the fan on this white house and the GOP.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:57 pmRory: You make a great point here. How did something as inane and ridiculous (not to mention the fact that these congressmen need a primer in the right to free speech - ahem!) get to the floor for a vote anyway? Pelosi’s asleep at the wheel I’m afraid and one HUGE disappointment. I guess those rumors of illegal aliens working in her vineyard are not just rumor but being used as blackmail these days.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:59 pmSmart Dems are going to refrain from attacking their own. Bill is a smart Dem.
Let’s not have a bunch of high-horse malcontents (though I reside with them in spirit) Nader-ize the next election shall we?
I’d take the worst of the Dems (Lieberman excepted) over any R, any time.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:01 pmRory sez:
We shouldn’t have to. We voted them in to take care of this mess…not to facilitate it.

September 26th, 2007 at 10:03 pmAnd just to put in a major plug here for those of you whom are disenchanted, disgusted and downright angry at being taken to the cleaners by those we elected to represent us and clean up this corruption - you do have a way to feel free from the complicity brought on by party affiliation - by registering Independent.
This is not to say that if you register as an Independent you are supporting an Independent candidate; conversely, you can still vote for anyone you choose.
This may be perhaps OUR LAST VOICE in this democracy. The I’s or Unaffiliateds in New Hampshire now number 44% of all registered voters. Nationally, Registered Independents have reached 35% and soon the MSM will have no alternative but to recognize this huge and growing bloc of voters because they now wield power.
Regain your voice in this government; Regain your personal power. Visit your Supervisor of Elections (or online if available in your state) and Register Independent today.
Express yourself while you still can!
September 26th, 2007 at 10:03 pmTripMaster: If Lieberman’s a true Independent, I’ll eat my keyboard! We don’t want him, that’s for sure. He’s a disgrace and an embarrassment.

Already have quite a while ago, Rory.
Again, what’s your point?
September 26th, 2007 at 10:04 pmRory: Renouncing Democrats is one thing; serving them “notice” by registering as an Independent is another. It’s a clear way to send them your “notice of renunciation”.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:06 pmAnd since most I’s lean heavily in the direction of the democrats, they can see just how many voters they may potentially lose due to their continued abrogation of duty.

I said nothing of the sort, Rory.
You must be new at this.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:08 pmIf the numbers of Registered Unaffiliated Voters continues to rise, the dialogue will switch to our inept, impotent “two party system”. The virtual “pissing contest” going on in Congress these days is abominable and beginning to resemble schoolyard brawls. Shameful that we’re funding this pissing contest as well.

September 26th, 2007 at 10:10 pmLieberman is the quintessential war monger acting out of the Jewish Holocaust “painbody”, that’s clear. Unfortunately, he’s carrying baggage from another era which is why he always appears so out of touch with reality. He needs a good shrink.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:10 pmrory: I see that President Clinton has once again ripped the right wing, a new a$$hole. So, is your bum a little sore.

I’m renouncing the republicans completely. Does that count?
September 26th, 2007 at 10:12 pmRory sez:
Renouncing does not equal pledging not to vote for them, Rory.

September 26th, 2007 at 10:14 pmIf I’ve misred your sincerity, Rory, apologies. But somehow these threads begin to reek if you know what I mean….the malodorous stench of a troll in disguse if you catch my drift.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:14 pmSee you later, veritas. Yes, I post (both stories and comments). We’re blogging on the Democratic Presidential Debate right now, actually.
Don’t worry about Rory. He’s strictly a third-stringer.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:14 pmrory: Still shilling for the whigs, er . . . republics? You’re about as independent as rush.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:15 pmAlso how about those Purple Heart Band-Aids at the Repuppetcan Convention. Now as an Army Sergeant First Class that has been to EVERY conflict since Panama in 89, and two tours in Iraq, I must say that that was one of the most despicable displays EVER. I know Soldiers who have been awarded Purple Hearts and not all of them lose limbs and life, but the simple fact that they were (ARE) in the postion to lose life and limb is nothing to laugh at.
I was sitting in the mess hall in Mosul on that day in Dec 2004 and I remember the blast and I remember getting knocked out my seat and I remember looking for my men and my XO. And remember seeing the blood running out of my and my XO’s ears but we were alright we just wanted to help the worse off. All it would have taken to receive Purple Hearts was for someone to write it up and we would have got them, but We weren’t interested plus I already had one from Panama.
Alot of people were killed that day (21) and a lot of people were wounded I helped a guy who looked pretty bad off and didn’t know until I got back that he was my daughter’s best friends father.
There were plenty of Purple Hearts given out for that terrible day, given to people who if you looked at them you would say that nothing was wrong with them, but you know what…………………THEY WERE THERE!!!!
None of you could imagine the outrage WE felt watching the Repuppetcans INSULT the vakue of a Purple Heart, and the fact that the so-called liberal media let it go was the last straw.
One day all of you who claim to “support the troops” but really only support the Repuppetcan Party and its “Band of Runner’s” are gonna receive the cruelest reality and I cant wait to watch you get it.
General Petreaus is the worse kind of General. He values politics over his Soldiers.

September 26th, 2007 at 10:19 pmThe point I believe that you are intentionally missing, Ms. Rory, is that just because one is an independent thinker who is not led by the ring in his nose by a group of fascists, it somehow besmerches the democrats. Registering as an Independent means that this growing bloc of voters will wield power in 08 and will vote for the candidate of our choice. It goes without saying that the Repukes are tanking by their numbers (now at 27%) and will tank even further with Toxic Bush still outraging the public.
Essentially, if you take this bloc of I’s at face value (35%) (mostly Democrats) and contrast it to the decreasing number of Reg. Repukes, I think that soon it will eclipse the GOP. When that occurs, our present “two party system” will be in serious jeopardy and the GOP may become extinct.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:19 pm. . . anyone else?

Rory, you have to hold hands, otherwise the magical spell wont function.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:21 pmDoes that mean you are going to vote for Republicans?

Just as soon as Hell freezes over.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:21 pmToday one may renounce the democrats who voted on something as inane and superficial as this MoveOn nonsense; EVERY DAY people are renouncing the continued debouchery, chicanery and corruption. The Republicans do not deserve to be in office; what’s more they don’t deserve to be funded by american dollars at this point.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:22 pmRory sez:
I’m sure you are, Rory, since you’re obviously in favor of renouncing anybody and everybody with a (D) after their name, as evidenced by this post:
Your ridiculous partisanship would be laughable, if it weren’t so appalling. “Independent”, indeed. Don’t make me laugh.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:23 pmRory: If you ask the majority of Registered Independents if they would EVER consider voting Republican, they’d laugh you right off the planet. How anyone could consider voting Repuke after this horrendous administration of smoke & mirrors, lies and deceit is well beyond any logic. Only one getting rich from war profiteering, Big Oil, Big Pharma, and Big Insurance would be all that’s left to the GOP at this point.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:24 pmAnd, Rory….for the record, who gives a flying shit that it’s only you and Bilbo in the first place? No one cares. Get to sleep now before your mother catches you online past your bedtime. Nightey-night, troll.

September 26th, 2007 at 10:26 pmSweet dreams, all!
September 26th, 2007 at 10:26 pmIf Bill continues to swing and connect like this, the far right will suffer a coma induced by the aneurysm formed by their collective hate.

Fortunately for them, she won’t do either.

I’d like to know why so many Democrats voted for this condemnation of the Moveon.org ad? And so, while Clinton took the time to bash the right, why didn’t he reserve some of his outrage for the gutless Democrats who voted for this thing?
Comment by comity — September 26, 2007 @ 10:36 pm
How could it be less important? Politically, it’s a loser either way. It is entirely meaningless, like most repig legislation, and it’s entirely possible that establishment politicians don’t want their party smearing establishment toadies like Betrayus. I’ve read all along that the “supplemental” spending bills for Iraq are not part of the budget figures,so the the deficit that freakin’ madman is running might be substantially larger than we’re being told. And, now, he wants ANOTHER $190BB for his personal nightmare/bloodbath over there, and it looks like he’s going to get it.

September 26th, 2007 at 11:39 pm#104,
Technically, President Clinton was not permanently disbarred. Following his plea agreement with the independent counsle bu which he admitted he deliberately gave misleading testimony before a federal judge, President Clinton had his law license suspended for contempt of court.
He also resigned under pressure from the U.S. Supreme Court Bar after the Court began disbarmet proceedings.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:41 pmWhy are Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid allowing these idiotic “sense of the senate” votes to even happen. The GOP is done, and if elections were held today, Clinton (either one) would destroy all republiscum in a walk. And it will only get worse for you, as patriots like MoveOn continue to bring the truth of the corruption and antiAmericanism of the GOP to light. It must be a nightmare for you to realize every day that 70% of the American people think you and your repig traitors are lower than used-car salesmen. But keep listening to O’Reilly, that will ensure a rout for your party of historical proportions, and you deserve it for the damage you have done to this country.

Very, very possible. Although several polls show Sen. Clinton trailing Mayor Giuliani in the polls, her victory in the 2008 presidential election is a very distinct possibility. If a Democrat were indeed to win the presidency in 2008, one can only hope it will be Sen. Clinton….She is the sole adult among the craven lightweights that make up the current roster of Democratic presidential nominees.

Sorry Right Wing Loon - my becoming an Independent is not going to win the Republicans the next election. I plan on re-registering as a Democrat before the next election. I became an Independent to send the Democratic party a message that they need to step up to the plate. If enough Democrats did that, they just might get the message. My political dollars are now going to moveon.org. I have pledged them a monthly amount.

Kerry never discredited his service. He was standing for the real principles behind the American ideal, and against the atrocities committed by American soldiers forced into an unwinnable, immoral, illegal situation. Only rightwing loonies try to discredit a genuine war hero, because they are deeply ashamed of their own cowardice and lack of patriotism. And why aren’t you in Iraq, by the way? September 27th, 2007 at 12:44 amThe White House and the GOP are getting ready to bomb Iran with no proof while yet again as was done in Iraq. Greenspan said what everyone knew it’s all about oil. Any country with a dictator killing the people mean nothing to the White House if the country has no oil to steal. Bill knows well this is the GOP’s way of pushing the headlines away from the Billions they want for Iraq, not passing the health care for American children and allowing the Blackwater hired killers to continue to murder Iraqis and US soldiers. He knows that the weapons used by the enemy were provided by the US and Saudis. Yes must we forget the 190,000 weapons General Petraeus lost yet there being sold by Blackwater as I speak.
