Giuliani tells Talabani: I’ll stay ‘as long as necessary.’

In a private meeting with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani in New York City today, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is seeking the Republican nomination for President, “indicated that he would keep a U.S. presence in that country for as long as necessary,” according to his aides. The Congressional Budget Office reported recently that a long-term presence in Iraq, such as Giuliani wants, could cost taxpayers trillions of dollars.

Talibani is a Kurd from the north, and they have lots of oil.

  2. Veritas says:

That’s the end of Giuliani’s campaign!

  3. upside99 says:

Where does the Repug Party come up with these A$$Klowns? Isn’t there ANYONE in this group of old white men that can have a coherent thought or a realistic slant on international relations?

  4. gummitch says:

Why does Rudy think this is reassuring? “Hello sir. Yes, I plan on occupying your country just as long as I feel like it or until the oil runs out, whichever comes first.”

  5. The Republic of Stupidity says:

The ral question here is, ahem, what was Rudi wearing?

Something carefree and frolicsome, perhaps a summer dress, even though we’re in Fall?

Or did he go w/ the basic navy blue wool number, w/ a string of pearls? More dignified when talking to a foreign head of state, no?

  6. Nevar says:

Maybe he still had the lampshade on his head from last nights House Party.

  7. Badmoodman says:

Necessary is an extremely vague an ambiguous concept. It’s got mega wiggle room.

  8. tombaker says:

hey – it’s not like it’s his kids or his money – what’s all the fuss?

Veritas: “That’s the end of Giuliani’s campaign!”

I’m not so sure about that. He’s playing to the idiot-warmongering base right now. If he gets the nomination look for the media to forget that he said that.

  10. Keith says:

$2 TRILLION is a bit more than the

“will virtually pay for itself” we were promised.

But, defense corporations stocks went up again today, so I guess it’s all right.

Speaking of the idiot-warmongering base, where have all the trolls been today? Weren’t there any threads that they could at least make a feeble effort to discuss? Or have they given up and dumped BushCo too?

#3 – “Realistic” to them means “KILL THEM ALL!!!!!”

    Killing, it’s the Republican Way.

  13. MCMetal says:

Fruity Rudy isn’t even smart enough or capable enough (just like his hero Chimpy) , in being able to bullshit in a semi-believable way……..

Hey Ghouliani ; did the thought ever enter into your empty bald head to tell Chimpy’s and Dickhead Cheney’s puppet that we will “Stand down when your forces and the joke government you’re running , decide to Stand Up” ?

Of course it hasn’t ; you’re part of the horseshit GOP…….

Yea, Like the old saying from Vietnam: Not sure who is the enemy? Just kill them all, and let god sort it out”. I find it so sad that our government is buying into that crap all over again.

    well-put, indeed mc metal.

to that end, i just finished another

As long as it is ‘necessary’.. , sounds good for military contractors…but not for the budget, the taxpayer ,and the people who fight the war..
And Giuliani cares for contractors,of course.

He started to talk as a President.
Did he get a phone call from Judy while he was talking to Talabani? !

  17. Don Bacon says:

Hillary said the same thing on Face The Nation:

Clinton said she recognized “there will be remaining missions” for American forces in Iraq, but she said they would not require the roughly 100,000 troops expected to be in Iraq when the next president takes office. She listed counterterrorism, protecting U.S. personnel and training Iraqi forces as the other missions.

“That’s the right way to go because that is a much clearer definition of what we’re trying to accomplish than what we face today,” Clinton said.

  18. curmudgeon says:

Who needs Social Security or Medicare when you can use that money instead to kill people in distant lands?

If you are a Baby Boomer, wouldn’t you much rather pay taxes and contribute younger family members (who may become disabled and/or die) to destroy other countries and work three jobs until you drop to show everyone what a proud, patriotic ‘Mercun (MARE-cun in bushspeak) you are.

And once your health declines to the point that you are physically unable to work, your children and grandchildren would love nothing better than to work multiple jobs to pay the interest on the national debt, support their own families and you as well (which includes healthcare, since the guv-ment won’t be helping to finance it anymore, since that would smack of socialism).

If you are among the younger generations, doesn’t this seem like a small price to pay to ensure that every other country in the world will fear us?

Quaint terms such as “independence”, “freedom”, “liberty”, will assume an Orwellian cast, in practice meaning the opposite of what they did almost to the close of the 20th century. But you and your families can continue to sacrifice with blood, sweat and tears to support these concepts anyway, no matter how anachronistic they may become.

Remember when George W. Bush, in referring to the Constitution in November, 2005, stated, “‘It’s just a goddamned piece of paper’”?
Don’t worry. The once sacred Constitution will be reviled as a failed experiment in the government-approved history textbooks, and any suggestion to the contrary will be met with severe punishment, silencing all but those who wish to sign their own death warrant.

And you will be unable to find any mention of the wise counsel of our fourth president, James Madison, anywhere, so you may wish to commit these words of wisdom to memory, as we are told that our future will consist of prolonged wars, with no end in sight:

“Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other…No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.”

  19. Xisithrus says:

    But what about Afghanistan Rudy?

Iraq is about regime change not 9/11, Rudy.

Why do none of these political presidential wanna-bees discuss Afghanistan?

  20. Jackie says:

Why do all the candidates and elected officials that wouldn’t serve in the Military during Vietnam fighting to keep our soldiers in the country that ask us to leave.
Rudy didn’t serve this country when needed yet he’s all for letting thousands of more soldiers get killed. We already have a national debt of 9 Trillion dollars and counting. Rudy will do for the US what he did for the 9/11 firefighters and policemen which is nothing but take what he could steal and let the Mob have the rest. Rudy is a true example of everyman has a price as he has been brought and paid for by the Mafia and GOP.

  21. APEC not OPEC says:

Why is The Rude One meeting with heads of foreign countries while running for President. Not fair to the other candidates IMO. How is it he feels he can make promises when he has not been elected (and hopefully won’t be)
