Actually, I’m just waiting for someone NOT on the “Ignore List” (for personal attacks when I don’t resort to personal attacks and/or not answering my questions when I always answered their questions to me).
Comment by Jake D.

I have often wondered why the Right Wing Loon Jake the Fake thinks that he gets to ask questions and we are somehow obligated to answer him, especially when he doesn't think he has to answer any questions posted to him. I think it's called "megalomania". He's a legend in his own mind.

Re #54: No luck. Bunning can’t explain anything. He is McConnell’s second vote and McConnell tells him exactly what to do.

Comment by Ditch Mitch KY — September 28, 2007 @ 2:29 am

I agree....I think Bunning's a pretty clueless Senator and a sockpuppet for those who really have an interest in stopping this legislation. It's sad, but I believe that Jim is simply following the script that he is given. In return, the crime syndicate makes sure he's re-elected as a rock solid rubberstamper who will do anything asked and votes as directed.

For the record, secrecy DURING WAR is a necessity for survival:

Comment by Jake D. — September 27, 2007 @ 10:13 pm

Add this to the ever-growing list of excuses the Repubs continually use to explain their secrecy, deception, eroding of freedoms, gutting the constitution, etc.

"We are at war!"
"There's a war on!"
"If you stop us, the terrorists win!"
"(we have to take away freedom and privacy) to ensure the security of America!"
"You're either with us or with the terrorists!"
"Clinton did it, too!"

Does anyone know HOW he put the hold on it? I’m curious as to the methods used.

Comment by Ike Skelton — September 28, 2007 @ 9:49 am

Here is a brief explanation from the Denver Post on our friend Sen. Kyl (R) Arizona on that very subject:

......when senators, using an archaic parliamentarian parlor trick, can stop a bill dead in its tracks merely by telling their party's Senate leader or secretary that they wish to place a hold on the bill. That's when Kyl - who routinely charts a brave course on the immigration debate and can often be counted on to reason rather than bloviate - slipped in the hold.

The practice of honoring secret holds has no basis in law and has no support in Senate rules. It's a good-ol'-boy creation and another of the seemingly endless perks of the Senate, where the rules always seem to benefit the representatives far more than the pesky public.

The whole argument in favor of secret holds comes down to cowardice: It allows a senator to cower behind anonymity while signaling his dislike for a piece of legislation. More to the point, it takes what would be a single losing vote on the floor of the Senate and converts it, magically, into stoppage of legislation.

That's awesome power with absolutely no accountability.

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, who discloses his holds as a matter of practice, introduced an amendment in 2006 to force all senators to identify themselves when placing a hold on a bill. That proposal has gone nowhere fast.

Are you surprised?

As more and more things like this happen, I keep thinking of a HUGE toilet brush and thousands of gallons of bleach to scrub the turd stains off the WH walls and off the Constitution when this bunch of sleazeball scumbags are flushed in '09.

But the damage may be too great to ever fully recover our country.... and maybe the world.

I'm sorry Jake, but secrecy in a time of war is not the issue here. GWB used 911 as his rationale for issuing the order, but way back on his first day in office his administration filed suit to block the Reagan archives from becoming public. Did he know in January 2001 that he was leading the nation to war? I would hope not. No I think the more likely reason is that there is some extremely embarrassing stuff in the Reagan archives that needed to be hidden or scrubbed from the records. Of course soon I am sure there will be the Clinton exception, whereby they release Clinton era documents while still leaving all other republican administration documentation in hiding.

#53 William F: Of course, what he's done is unconstitutional; that is, if this were still a valid democracy. Since it's sliding into complete fascism, the claim of secrecy is applied to absolutely everything....another hallmark of fascism I'm afraid.

I suspect that his "hold" had to do with the visitor logs among other things. It's precisely when info about the nocturnal visits of Jeffie Lube were being circulated in the blogosphere that this mysterious "hold" was put on presidential records. Hmmmm....one has to wonder what damaging information is contained therein with this severe cloak of secrecy applied to it??

I called Bunnings office. The staffer DENIED that Bunning put the hold. I said I hoped he could investigate and help move the legislation forward.

Posters - follow suit, with polite, respectful requests. If you sound crazy or overly partisan, you'll be ignored. But serious, responsible voters expressing concern RAISE concern in professional politicians that times are changing, and that the BS that worked last month might be wearing thin.

Here's hoping.

As a Kentucky resident, I have sent a message to Senator Bunning asking him why he has done this, and I hope others will do the same. We don't need more secrecy in government, particularly about things that happened decades ago!

I notice jake stopped using his famous "anyone else?" after "rory" who claimed not to be him, used it also. I guess if Rory is a liar about not being jake, jake is a liar too. Notice jake and rory didnt show up in the same thread. Jory/Rake must have been visiting one of his 15 year old friends and using thier computer...

Hendler, let me get your logic straight...every day we stay in iraq is helping the iranian backed shia gain more power there (democratically), and yet, now, the democratic candidates think we need to stay, to ensure that iraqis democratically have the right to ally themselves with iran?

they think we need to stay and support THIS guy, right hendler:

You DO know the reason saddam used to get weapons from your heroes is because we were concerned about Iranian influence spreading through Iraq, right?

oh, and since they hated each other, which one was hitler, Saddam or Armadeghadajahad? whatever his name is?

#20 - "Actually, I’m just waiting for someone NOT on the “Ignore List” (for personal attacks when I don’t resort to personal attacks and/or not answering my questions when I always answered their questions to me)." Comment by Jake D. — September 27, 2007 @ 11:41 pm

Except for the fact that there ARE people here who have answered your questions and didn't resort to personal attacks.

When you refuse to acknowledge or agree with their answer that does not mean they didn't answer.

I've seen you resort to personal attacks first.

I suppose when your head is shoved in the sand, you can ignore anything you want.

Since I apparently seem to be on your "ignore list", despite the fact I've met your criteria to remain OFF your "ignore list", I shall begin ignoring your comments henceforth.

More proof the average knuckledragging GOPer is a white trash klan type.
All the big GOP candiates didnt appear at this black forum for one simple reason.. they would face a choice between saying things that would alienate the few blacks who might vote for them, or alternatively, having to say things to court blacks that would infuriate thier base. They also avoided a mexican forum like the plauge. If this sort of stuff isnt proof that minorities and the GOP's white trash base are irreconcilable, I don't know what is...

Why do Republican fear that Americans might know or find out what their elected representatives have been doing?
