As long as Couric continues to engage in such shameless cheerleading, viewers possessing any degree of intelligence will look elsewhere for a closer approximation to the actual news (which, by the way, is on the endangered species list in this country), and she will be reduced to doing late night infomercials.

For me, a Walter Cronkite moment is listening to his calm, even voice, nonetheless bursting with excitement, following John Glenn up into space.

And covering JFK’s funeral in that same voice, never choking, never wavering, as strong as history.

Did she get this little phrase from other ambitious journalistos? Better not have a Cronkite Moment, buddy…it’s a quick way to lose the top spot?

Somehow I doubt it. I can’t see newscasters dissing Walter.No, I think the only people who I think would think of a Walter Cronkite moment as coming out against the war are those cases who belived we would have won in Vietnam except for the hippies and liberals.

In short, the Bush Administration.

I would bet she got that phrase directly from a ’senior administration official’ warning her real friendly-like–and she, duly chastened, agreed wholeheartedly.
