Huckabee rips Bush’s foreign policy approach.

By Faiz on Sep 28th, 2007 at 8:00 pm

Huckabee rips Bush’s foreign policy approach.»

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) ripped into the President Bush’s national security record, “delivering a bold and potentially risky speech that could establish the former Arkansas governor as the maverick among top Republican candidates and test his party’s loyalty to President Bush.” Huckabee specifically rejected Bush’s approach to dealing with Iran:

“When we first invaded Afghanistan, Iran helped, especially in dealings with their ally, the Northern Alliance,” he said. “They wanted to join us in fighting al Qaida. …The CIA and State Department supported a partnership. Some in the White House and beyond did not. And when President Bush included Iran in the axis of evil, everything went downhill pretty fast.” […]

“The administration has quite properly said it will not take the military option off the table. But if we don’t put some other options on the table, eventually the military option becomes the only viable one. Right now we’re proceeding down only one track,” he said.

Holy cow! Huckabee said this? It’s not a case of someone hacking his blog? Lawd have mercy!

  2. barfly Says:

I don’t think that Gov. Huckabee fully appreciates the evil that is Iran.

    Comment by Rory

More bedwetting rhetoric. I seem to remember you guys saying the same thing about Iraq’s WMD’s.

  3. epm Says:

While I have fundamental differences with Huckabee on social issues, he often sounds much more like a conservative Democrat than any kind of a Republican on the many times I’ve heard him speak.

  4. barfly Says:

Actually, barfly, both Bill and Hillary Clinton DID fully appreciate Saddam’s evil.

    Comment by Rory

Yet were reluctant to waste American lives in search of the republicans’ Holy Grail: WMD’s. This is just more hyperventilation from the Right.

  5. Arne Langsetmo Says:

A Republican with some sense … or some integrity.

    Cheers,

    Comment by Rory — September 28, 2007 @ 8:18 pm

Then it logically follows they appreciated Cheney’s, Rumsfeld’s, and Bush 1’s evil, because THEY HELPED ARM HIM, you F-in’ cretin from hell.

You should have that checked with a good ENT specialist.
    Comment by Rory — September 28, 2007 @ 9:21 pm

You should check with a good mental health specialist, then you might be able to find out why you fear a 3rd world country that if we ever needed to we could squash like a bug. Why are wingnuts all such bed wetters?

  15. Ryan Neat Says:

I don’t “fear any 3rd world country” and I am neither a “wingnut” nor a “bed wetters.” Got anything else?
    Comment by Rory — September 28, 2007 @ 9:26 pm

So far you’ve been proven to be a bedwetter that fears a third world country, making you a wingnut. That’s all I need, son.

  16. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

Maybe it wasn’t so nice meeting you, after all.

    Comment by Rory — September 28, 2007 @ 9:15 pm

I can certainly tell ya, it was a huge pain in Cheney meetin’ you…

  17. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

This is fascinating. “Rory” is also posting on another thread continuously, and the grammar, phrasing and syntax are totally different.

    2 different Rorys? Geez, whattabunchofphonies!!!!

  18. woodguy Says:

Are these comments what Larry Craig would call a “Rory hole”?

  19. Ryan Neat Says:

    I’m a “she” as well.
    Comment by Rory — September 28, 2007 @ 9:29 pm

    How very transgender of you…

Doesn’t change the fact you’re a bedwetting wingnut, little girl.

  20. Above the Clouds Says:

Huckabee is an idiot–Bush dioesn’t have any foreign policy.

  21. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

If Huckabee wanted to raise a stink, he should have done it two days ago, when Congress was giving Bush unlimited authority to invade Iran.

    Comment by BARTLEBEE — September 28, 2007 @ 10:18 pm

    Ya got that damned straight…

  22. DigDug Says:

Actually, barfly, both Bill and Hillary Clinton DID fully appreciate Saddam’s evil.

    Comment by Rory

    Was Saddam evil? Certainly.

But he was also weak, largely dis-armed, and completely contained.

And now, in his place we have a huge, home-grown Al’Qaida presence that may actually be a problem for us. In short we created a problem where there was none. And everyone knows this, even the heavily partisan 30% who still try to deny it. Deep down, they know.

  23. woodguy Says:

    DigDug,

I agree completely with all of but one of your points, i.e. they have no “deep down”, but are as shallow as a puddle of piss.

  24. 1984 Says:

All diplomatic solutions are designed to fail, the neocons want war and have wanted for a long time. WMDs and terrorism will the bogus reasons for the PNACcio invasion..

  25. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

He had NO WAY TO ATTACK THE US!!!

    PERIOD.

    Comment by BARTLEBEE — September 28, 2007 @ 10:59 pm

    Hmmm… right you are, Bartlebee.

Back in The Build-up to the Warâ„¢, did you hear ONE bit in the news about the Mighty Iraqi Airforce, or the Mighty Iraqi Navy? Didn’t think so, ’cause, in truth, THEY DID’T HAVE ONE!

    Geez… get a clue, folks!

  26. PollM Says:

Finally someone is talking the shameful foreign policy.

Make your voice count, shame on them. Always ask yourself who owns the Lobby system, and where more emphasis needs to be put going forward to get your rights.

Who do you think won the All American Presidential forum debate at Baltimore’s Morgan State University?

  27. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

Why none other than our own George Bush.

    Comment by BARTLEBEE — September 29, 2007 @ 12:39 am

Well, damn… he is a uniter after all!

  28. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

    Like the entire global community.

    Comment by BARTLEBEE — September 29, 2007 @ 12:50 am

    Uh… yeah… I’d be SOOO lyin’ if I said I wasn’t scared shi*tless…

  29. Jay Randal Says:

War on Iran appears imminent. Emergency funding has been given to Bush, by the Congress, so attack might commence this weekend.

  30. Badger Says:

I just heard on the BBC overnite that China has established a new foreign investment board to decide where to move its $200 Billion in foreign reserves….now mostly invested in American T-bills…to get a Better Return.
Bin Laden used boxcutters and airline tickets…but his real weapon was the same one he used against the Soviet Union…BANKRUPTCY !

  31. Chocolate Jesus Says:

    >This is fascinating. “Rory” is also posting on another thread continuously, >and the grammar, phrasing and syntax are totally different.

Right…..this “Rory” if you notice on this thread, also has Jakes excessive, fake politeness, and now, Rory is asking “anything else?” instead of “anyone else?”, like it (and Jake) was before.

Hey Rory, is this the first website you’ve ever commented on? If no, could you kindly point us to some of your old posts? Since you’re not jake, I couldnt be on your “ignore list” ™

  32. Red Pill Says:

I’m no Huckabee fan, but the man is right on with this. Bush approaches geopolitics as a child. His foreign “policy” recalls Abraham Maslow, who said, “If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail.”

  33. Badger Says:

“When we first invaded Afghanistan, Iran helped, especially in dealings with their ally, the Northern Alliance,” he said. “They wanted to join us in fighting al Qaida.

Actually, we wanted to JOIN THEM in fighting al Qaeda.

  34. foxdie Says:

I thought Ron Paul was already the Republican maverick? He’s been saying things like this all along.

  35. chimpeach Says:

Huckabee called it exactly right. In fact, we asked Iran to keep the al Qaeda operatives it was holding in order to keep them out of Afghanistan, and they did. Then Bush turned around and called them part of the Axis of Evil for ‘harboring terrorists’. What a goddam jerk.

  36. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

Then Bush turned around and called them part of the Axis of Evil for ‘harboring terrorists’. What a goddam jerk.

    Comment by chimpeach — September 29, 2007 @ 4:42 pm

yeah, but “Axis of Evil” made for such killer sound bites on Fox, like “Shock and Awe”, or “Bring ‘Er On”, or “Git ‘Er Done”…

Unfortunately, most of the world apparently doesn’t watch Fox…

  37. bernarda Says:

Huckabee plays to his audience and has all the religious credentials to be credible to them. But I have read some statements by him that make me wonder if he hasn’t become a closet doubter.

He usually doesn’t do that much bible-thumping and generally makes just general statements about his faith. His policies as governor weren’t so bad when you look at the other Republican candidates.

On Pew Forum, he even joked about religion.

“Fortunately for all of us, and the airline, we made it here safely. What is really a miracle – for those of you who need any affirmation of the intervention of God in life – is that the U.S. Airways flight was actually on time. (Laughter.) And if you have flown them lately, you know that only God could have intervened to make that happen. (Laughter.) What’s more, the bags made it as well. As one who travels on airplanes a lot, I wish somebody in the debates would ask me the question, What would you do as president to try to make airlines a more efficient industry? I’m not sure that I have the answer, but, boy, could I ever explain the problem.”

    http://pewforum.org/events/?EventID=150

“There are some interesting points of opposition that I faced along the way. I love to tell the story of the lady who asked me in my early political life if it was true that I was a Baptist minister, and I said, “Yes, ma’am, that is true.” She said, “Well, let me ask you, are you one of those narrow-minded Baptists who think only Baptists go to heaven?” I said, “No, ma’am, actually I’m more narrow than that; I don’t think all of the Baptists are going to make it.” (Scattered laughter.)”

Huckabee also had this strange comment for a Republican,

“I believe that when people elect public officials, they don’t elect people to be horizontal; they are looking for vertical leaders. Vertical leadership is when you really are leading people on the basis of things that will directly impact their lives, like, Will we improve schools? Will we improve roads that people drive on? Will our actions make for a better environment, or a worse one? Will we have a safer nation with safer borders – more secure borders? Will our tax system be fair? Will it penalize people who are trying to be productive, or will it be a heel in the face of those who are trying to reach the next rung on the ladder?”
