Huckabee plays to his audience and has all the religious credentials to be credible to them. But I have read some statements by him that make me wonder if he hasn't become a closet doubter.

He usually doesn't do that much bible-thumping and generally makes just general statements about his faith. His policies as governor weren't so bad when you look at the other Republican candidates.

On Pew Forum, he even joked about religion.

"Fortunately for all of us, and the airline, we made it here safely. What is really a miracle – for those of you who need any affirmation of the intervention of God in life – is that the U.S. Airways flight was actually on time. (Laughter.) And if you have flown them lately, you know that only God could have intervened to make that happen. (Laughter.) What's more, the bags made it as well. As one who travels on airplanes a lot, I wish somebody in the debates would ask me the question, What would you do as president to try to make airlines a more efficient industry? I'm not sure that I have the answer, but, boy, could I ever explain the problem."

http://pewforum.org/events/?EventID=150

"There are some interesting points of opposition that I faced along the way. I love to tell the story of the lady who asked me in my early political life if it was true that I was a Baptist minister, and I said, "Yes, ma'am, that is true." She said, "Well, let me ask you, are you one of those narrow-minded Baptists who think only Baptists go to heaven?" I said, "No, ma'am, actually I'm more narrow than that; I don't think all of the Baptists are going to make it." (Scattered laughter.)"

Huckabee also had this strange comment for a Republican,

"I believe that when people elect public officials, they don't elect people to be horizontal; they are looking for vertical leaders. Vertical leadership is when you really are leading people on the basis of things that will directly impact their lives, like, Will we improve schools? Will we improve roads that people drive on? Will our actions make for a better environment, or a worse one? Will we have a safer nation with safer borders – more secure borders? Will our tax system be fair? Will it penalize people who are trying to be productive, or will it be a heel in the face of those who are trying to reach the next rung on the ladder?"

Then Bush turned around and called them part of the Axis of Evil for ‘harboring terrorists’. What a goddam jerk.

yeah, but "Axis of Evil" made for such killer sound bites on Fox, like "Shock and Awe", or "Bring 'Er On", or "Git 'Er Done"...

Huckabee called it exactly right. In fact, we asked Iran to keep the al Qaeda operatives it was holding in order to keep them out of Afghanistan, and they did. Then Bush turned around and called them part of the Axis of Evil for 'harboring terrorists'. What a goddam jerk.

I'm no Huckabee fan, but the man is right on with this. Bush approaches geopolitics as a child. His foreign "policy" recalls Abraham Maslow, who said, "If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail."

>This is fascinating. “Rory” is also posting on another thread continuously, >and the grammar, phrasing and syntax are totally different.

Right.....this "Rory" if you notice on this thread, also has Jakes excessive, fake politeness, and now, Rory is asking "anything else?" instead of "anyone else?", like it (and Jake) was before.

Hey Rory, is this the first website you've ever commented on? If no, could you kindly point us to some of your old posts? Since you're not jake, I couldnt be on your "ignore list" (tm)

I just heard on the BBC overnite that China has established a new foreign investment board to decide where to move its $200 Billion in foreign reserves....now mostly invested in American T-bills...to get a Better Return.
Bin Laden used boxcutters and airline tickets...but his real weapon was the same one he used against the Soviet Union...BANKRUPTCY !

Finally someone is talking the shameful foreign policy.

Make your voice count, shame on them. Always ask yourself who owns the Lobby system, and where more emphasis needs to be put going forward to get your rights.

Who do you think won the All American Presidential forum debate at Baltimore's Morgan State University?

DigDug,

I agree completely with all of but one of your points, i.e. they have no "deep down", but are as shallow as a puddle of piss.

Actually, barfly, both Bill and Hillary Clinton DID fully appreciate Saddam’s evil.

Comment by Rory

Was Saddam evil? Certainly.

But he was also weak, largely dis-armed, and completely contained.

And now, in his place we have a huge, home-grown Al'Qaida presence that may actually be a problem for us. In short we created a problem where there was none. And everyone knows this, even the heavily partisan 30% who still try to deny it. Deep down, they know.

If Huckabee wanted to raise a stink, he should have done it two days ago, when Congress was giving Bush unlimited authority to invade Iran.
