Udall to introduce ‘Rush’ resolution on Monday.»

On Monday, Rep. Mark Udall (D-CO) will introduce a resolution condemning Rush Limbaugh’s comments that troops who support withdrawal from Iraq are “phony soldiers.” In a dear colleague letter, Udall says the resolution will honor “all Americans serving in the Armed Forces” while “condemning” Limbaugh’s “unwarranted attack.”

Let’s hope no one holds their breath. Can you say NOT GONNA HAPPEN?

It’s only when someone speaks the truth that the GOP goes ballistic. Otherwise, lies, bullying, intimidation, and nastiness is the most appreciated method of communication.

Condemn the lies? Nope. Condemn the nastiness? Good lord, no! The nastier the better (if aimed at someone of differing opinions). They go out of their ways to be the nastiest or the worst of the worst. It’s a badge of honor of these horrible people these days.

Anyone who can call themselves a republican or conservative these days is admitting to being a thug. Anyone who can do so makes me want to vomit. They are a useless waste of oxygen.

I guess sometimes you have to fight silliness with silliness.

Limbaugh’s remarks are so exemplary of how divisive the right wing is - if you don’t agree with them you are a traitor, unpatriotic, phony, a coward, etc. People are just sick of it. It’s time to call them out on this unAmerican type of discourse.

  11. Engr Tony Says:

From the TPM article linked to at the top of this thread:

It will also potentially present the Dem leadership with a not-so-easy choice. Many people will naturally call on the leadership to allow the resolution to come to a vote, which is not necessarily something the leadership might want, since it could look like a tit-for-tat reso in retaliation for the measure condemning MoveOn. It also is potentially problematic for some in the leadership because there is an internal sentiment that it’s not Congress’ job to go around denouncing the remarks, however reprehensible, of private citizens.

Sorry, but that potential excuse for the House leadership to not support this proposed legislation to publicly condemn Limbaugh for his “phony soldiers” insult does not carry water. Limbaugh is not simply a “private citizen;” rather he is the host of a major talk radio program that has an extremely large listening audience and is carried (often live) in nearly all major markets. This makes Limbaugh, in essence, a very public figure who needs to be held accountable for his words.

This blowhard has repeated the mantra that “words mean things” so many times on his radio program when he attacks his political and ideological opponents. Now it high time that he learn that this mantra cuts both ways.

And as a former active duty Marine who is also opposed to this war along with its inept civilian political leadership, I take great offense to what this blowhard said. He wouldn’t have the spine to say that directly to the face of any military veteran from this war, but he feels secure enough to hide behind his microphone.

Limbaugh - you would not have lasted two weeks in Marine Corps bootcamp.

  12. Xisithrus Says:

Military members speak up for your brethren!

  13. drago Says:

    Pathetic.

Congress needs to stop this petty tit-for-tat nonsense and do some REAL WORK. Like cutting off funding to a “war” that cannot be won.

    First Amendment, heard of it?
Apparently, many in Congress — and here, don’t know what it means.

    Christ, America has problems.

  16. impeachcheneythenbush Says:

People, please tell me what the point of this resolution is, other than “payback” for the Moveon.Org resolution that passed (with a large number of Dems voting for it…remember?) If it was wrong for the Congress to attack free speech by going after Moveon.Org, it’s just as wrong for the Congress to go after Limbaugh.

In the meantime, people are dying in the unending war in Iraq and they just continued some 9 Billion in continuing funding, as well as making a 70 BILLION bridge amount available to Bush, until the main funding bill is resolved. Now…after the resolution about Iran just passed (again, supported by the majority of the Dems also)…how do you suppose Bush will use that money?

How about, why are we wasting time condemning anyone for speaking their mind? If you don’t like Rush, DON’T LISTEN TO HIM!! WTF are we even discussing this for? I want them to say all the despicable things that are on their minds. That way, I know what they really think, rather than just what they feel they can say without censure. The Congress has a LOT of work to do dismatnalling the crap that Bush has fed us the last eight years. We don’t need to worry about Rush honoring the troops. We need to worry about fixing what Bush broke. How about we work on THAT?

  23. nigel Says:

I actually have mixed views on this.

I was angry that our elected representatives wasted time on the move on vote and the democratic party alternative last week because sense of the senate votes are pointless. IMO we elect and pay our lawmakers to legislate (for better or worse) NOT to be opinion talk show hosts. I feel the same way about this resolution condemning Limbaugh. last week I couldn’t get the “people’s front of Judea” out of my head, all resolution no actual action.

That said it will expose the hypocrisy (as if we need this to do that) of anyone that voted to condemn move on that doesn’t do the same with limbaugh.

Remember though that this also means that the people that didn’t take part in the move on vote will have to sit this one out as well by the same principle. They should make it clear as they did with move on that what limbaugh said was repugnant, challenge the republicans to stand by the troops, ask why they didn’t bring this to the floor themselves then why we are wasting time on limbaugh instead of the real issues.

If those that didn’t take part in the move on sham vote take part in this one the story will become “move on democrats hypocrisy” and the distraction from limbaugh comment will be complete

  24. rjmadrid05 Says:

I am officer in navy who doesn’t agree with the war. I have more education than Limberger but i will die for the right to free speech. so would my fellow military brethren. that’s why Iraq is not necessary. what he said was downright disgusting, but he has a right to say it. he looks like a jacka** saying it, but he can still say it. unfortunately, implicit in the right to free speech is the right to act like a dumba**. especially from someone who never once wore a uniform in his life.

  25. katy Says:

Having said that, it seems to me that every American should repudiate — publicly and forcefully — Limbaugh’s castigation of military men and women who are opposed to Bush’s war in Iraq.

Let us exercise our freedom of speech by loud and clear criticism of Limbaugh’s disrespect for the brave men and women in uniform who exercise their freedom of speech.

This Right Wing Loon who chooses to use the name of an honorable American, so I won’t say his name, thinks that the liberals holding Rush Limbaugh to the same standard as the Right Wing Loons hold for moveon.org is funny. Typical of the Right Wing Loons - humor challenged and totally unable to see the irony of what they say.

Why was it something when moveon.org called Betrayus Betray Us and it is nothing when Rush Limbaugh disses our soldiers?

That’s the RNC’s latest tactic. Send in ringers purporting to be something they are not like our Vet Mother on another thread, and try to excuse the inexcusable. Add that to their tactic of sending in ringers to pretend they are a liberal and then say something really outrageous, the RNC has a very full bag of tricks.

It’s too bad that honesty is lost to them.

Rory has a point. A similar resolution about Rush would have to leave out all the paragraphs about his honorable education and career. “Rush Limbaugh is a big fat liar” doesn’t have the same ring.

    Comment by Rory

Let me see if I get this straight. An ad which utilized the same rhetorical techniques that Fox uses to smear it’s opponents is suddenly out of bounds? If memory serves, Fox used that same tactic on Murtha on his tropp withdrawl amendment (framing a smear in the form of a question), yet the silence from supposedly patriotic conservatives was near-absolute. You guys can’t now credibly claim that it was a smear on Petreaus to simple ask a question, after ignoring Fox’s doing the same thing for years, to its opponents.

Also, it would be great to have the government condemning the conservatives’ darling - Rush Limbaugh.

I want to make sure both sides are consistent.
    Comment by Rory — September 28, 2007 @ 8:07 pm

That would be a first for your side. So then we can assume you will consistently admonish Rush as you’ve done with moveon? Or are you typical of most Republicans that only want others to live by their values, while they skip out as little hypocrites?

I don’t need an answer - unfortunately for you we all already know the answer.

  39. Above the Clouds Says:

The GOP don’t dare attack or repudiate Limbaugh—they all know full well that the sheep that listen to Limbaugh would march in lock-step and without question if he tells them to not vote for any elected Republican who speaks ill of him. Besides, Limbaugh REALLY needs a Democratic President–how much longer can he possibly convince America–after 7 years of failed GOP presidency–that what’s wrong with America is the Democratic Party?

It will be interesting to watch republicans squirm, come Monday. CALLER 1: How long is it gonna — how long do you think we’re going to have to be there for them to take care of that?

    LIMBAUGH: Mike –

CALLER 1: How long — you know — what is it?

    LIMBAUGH: Mike –

    CALLER 1: What is it?

LIMBAUGH: Mike, you can’t possibly be a Republican.

    CALLER 1: I am.

LIMBAUGH: You are — you are –

    CALLER 1: I am definitely a Republican.

LIMBAUGH: You can’t be a Republican. You are –

CALLER 1: Oh, I am definitely a Republican.

LIMBAUGH: You are tarnishing the reputation, ’cause you sound just like a Democrat.

    CALLER 1: No, but –

LIMBAUGH: The answer to your question –

CALLER 1: — seriously, how long do we have to stay there –

LIMBAUGH: As long as it takes!

CALLER 1: — to win it? How long?

LIMBAUGH: As long as it takes! It is very serious.

CALLER 1: And that is what?

LIMBAUGH: This is the United States of America at war with Islamofascists. We stay as long — just like your job. You do everything you have to do, whatever it takes to get it done, if you take it seriously.

CALLER 1: So then you say we need to stay there forever –

    LIMBAUGH: I — it won’t –

    CALLER 1: — because that’s what it’ll take.

LIMBAUGH: No, Bill, or Mike — I’m sorry. I’m confusing you with the guy from Texas.

CALLER 1: See, I — I’ve used to be military, OK? And I am a Republican.

    LIMBAUGH: Yeah. Yeah.

CALLER 1: And I do live [inaudible] but –

LIMBAUGH: Right. Right. Right, I know.

CALLER 1: — you know, really — I want you to be saying how long it’s gonna take.

LIMBAUGH: And I, by the way, used to walk on the moon!

CALLER 1: How long do we have to stay there?

LIMBAUGH: You’re not listening to what I say. You can’t possibly be a Republican. I’m answering every question. That’s not what you want to hear, so it’s not even penetrating your little wall of armor you’ve got built up.

    […]

LIMBAUGH: Another Mike, this one in Olympia, Washington. Welcome to the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER 2: Hi Rush, thanks for taking my call.

    LIMBAUGH: You bet.

CALLER 2: I have a retort to Mike in Chicago, because I am a serving American military, in the Army. I’ve been serving for 14 years, very proudly.

    LIMBAUGH: Thank you, sir.

CALLER 2: And, you know, I’m one of the few that joined the Army to serve my country, I’m proud to say, not for the money or anything like that. What I would like to retort to is that, if we pull — what these people don’t understand is if we pull out of Iraq right now, which is about impossible because of all the stuff that’s over there, it’d take us at least a year to pull everything back out of Iraq, then Iraq itself would collapse, and we’d have to go right back over there within a year or so. And –

LIMBAUGH: There’s a lot more than that that they don’t understand. They can’t even — if — the next guy that calls here, I’m gonna ask him: Why should we pull — what is the imperative for pulling out? What’s in it for the United States to pull out? They can’t — I don’t think they have an answer for that other than, “Well, we just gotta bring the troops home.”

CALLER 2: Yeah, and, you know what –

LIMBAUGH: “Save the — keep the troops safe” or whatever. I — it’s not possible, intellectually, to follow these people.

CALLER 2: No, it’s not, and what’s really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.

    LIMBAUGH: The phony soldiers.

CALLER 2: The phony soldiers. If you talk to a real soldier, they are proud to serve. They want to be over in Iraq. They understand their sacrifice, and they’re willing to sacrifice for their country.

LIMBAUGH: They joined to be in Iraq. They joined –

CALLER 2: A lot of them — the new kids, yeah.

LIMBAUGH: Well, you know where you’re going these days, the last four years, if you signed up. The odds are you’re going there or Afghanistan or somewhere.

    CALLER 2: Exactly, sir.

Really folks. Why do we do it? What makes us reply to these trolls? If they bring a good argument, then sure, we should defend our positions, but these two clowns don’t have anything but weak name calling and asking us to disprove their nonsense.

  70. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

There are many intelligent conservatives who are true to their values and are capable of a rational discussion.

You’re an embarrassment to you side.

Also, blockquote and a spell checker are your friend.

  74. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

After using the same tactic on me and getting swatted down, it is apparent Robby lives in LimbaughLand, where liberals are either on the dole, or ride around in limos. I would think such myopia would make manuvering about the room quite difficult.

  76. Nat Says:

I did read the transcript, Nat. Did you also see the transcript where Mr. Limbaugh said he was indeed referring to Mr. Macbeth?
    Comment by Rory — September 28, 2007 @ 9:24 pm

MacBeth came up after Rush made the phony soldier comment toward the caller and military personnel who support the withdrawal.

  78. Above the Clouds Says:

Why do all the GOP apologists come to sites like this to defend clowns like Limbaugh? As the Republican Party circles the drain with the neocons going down one at a time, the only real hope the GOP has is to run against the MoveOn ad.

  85. Nat Says:

So, is that “yes” Nat, you are aware that Limbaugh said he was referring to Mr. Macbeth?
    Comment by Rory — September 28, 2007 @ 9:31 pm

This is how it went in a nutshell:

A person calls the show and says he’s former military and wants to know when the war will end. Limbaugh essentially dismisses him. Another person calls in and wants to respond to the former military guy. In that back and forth Limbaugh calls soldiers who support withdrawal phony soldiers. After that call ends, Limbaugh says something like “speaking of fake soldiers did you hear about a guy named MacBeth”. He then proceeds to tell the MacBeth story.

  86. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

  91. Ryan Neat Says:

That’s right folks, Limbaugh thinks that Murtha is a PHONY SOLDIER!!!

LIMBAUGH: You shouldn’t hold your breath because there’s no standard to hold me to, in the sense that you’re — I never said what you think I said, Congressman Pallone, Congresswoman [Jan] Schakowsky [D-IL], Sen. [John] Kerry [D-MA], or any of the rest of you in the drive-by media. I was talking about a genuine phony soldier. And by the way, Jesse MacBeth’s not the only one. How about this guy Scott Thomas who was writing fraudulent, phony things in The New Republic about atrocities he saw that never happened? How about Jack Murtha blanketly accepting the notion that Marines at Haditha engaged in wanton murder of innocent children and civilians?

  92. Ryan Neat Says:

That’s right folks. While moveon simply asked a question, in the same way that Fox News does every night - Limbaugh actually stated as a fact that Murtha was a PHONY SOLDIER!

He remained in the Reserves after his discharge from active duty until he volunteered for service in the Vietnam War, serving from 1966 to 1967, serving as a battalion staff officer (S-2 Intelligence Section), receiving the Bronze Star with Valor device, two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He retired from the Reserves as a colonel in 1990, receiving the Navy Distinguished Service Medal.”

Oh yeah, that’s a phony soldier. Care to embarrass yerself some more? Com’on… you can do it!

  96. Marie Says:

My oh my, what will the republiscum do now? — the American Conservative magazine has Gen. Petraeus on its cover with the title “sycophant savior” in essence, a political toady.

Rush Lintball has called those who oppose the war, phony soldiers — and Lintball is on Armed Forces Radio broadcast in Iraq!
The last I heard, the majority of soldiers in Iraq are supporting their comrades and following orders, but they hate the war, the way they hav to fight it, and the majority of them despise their C-in-C,
    Bush.

Republicans have criticized many other generals (in uniform) who spoke out in criticism, but they haven’t been publicly chastised.

I always find it fascinating how the ‘values’ republicans believe in the “do as I say, not as I do” in seemingly everything. Limbaugh and his listeners have no problems criticizing troops, and calling them names, but they hate anyone else doing the same. Being a republican is clearly a symptom of some sort of mental illness for most of these folks.

I have to say, that one exchange where I asked Wayne if he remembered Chris, then Chris came back at me, then Wayne started asking Chris about his, ahem… “service”… was PRICELESS. The timing was incredible. And then to have Li’l Robbie turn on Chris too…

And Chris seemd to leave so quickly at that point. Guess he got called back to active duty.

Ya cain’t make this stuff up!!! :-D!!!

What is the MATTER WITH YOU PEOPLE?!

You were upset that Washington wasted time on the MoveOn vote, so why are you all for THIS vote? I agree that if they condemn one, they should condemn the other.. but they can condemn it when their on the talk shows and new shows.

C’mooon - this is such a WASTE OF TIME!!!

  154. Zooey Says:

    TRoS,

Chris is a very busy guy. It takes a lot of time to make up that shit. :D

Well, apparently you can ask robroy about those pictures. Heh.

Unfortunately, they’ll be all stuck together if we try gittin’ back from ‘im.

(Ewwwwww… did I just say that?)

As for Chris… BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA… I’m so glad he got a chance to talk to Wayne about the 82nd. THAT was even better than Mr P’s famous “The Saudis aren’t Moslems moment…”.

  157. Zooey Says:

You’re thinking about those pics too much, TRoS. :D

I love how the trolls evaporate like that. I can just see Chris’ monitor with a big sticky note on it: WAYNE. Don’t talk about the 82nd when that guy is around. REMEMBER!!

    Sorry, WRONG!!

If it wasn’t a waste of time to SMEAR VOTE Moveon.org, who told the TRUTH about Buish and General BETRAYUS,

It isn’t a waste of time to show what an unamerican TRAITOR and LIAR about the TROOPS that HE is…

The Bush Crime Family has SUPRESSED the TRUTH and INTIMIDATED so-called “journalists” and SPREAD PROPAGANDA so that the 29%ers, better known as MORON-Amerikkkans still thinks that invading Iraq was a GOOD THING

while Osama is FREE 6 years later

and nobody cxonnects that dots that Bush’s failed oil companies were FINANCED by the Bin Ladens.

And that the Saudis are financing Al Queda in Iraq and beyond.

Well, hey… until you confirmed their existence, I had to assume Li’l Robbie was jes talkin’.

As far as Chris goes? Sh*-*te… I’m cuttin’ and pastin’ THAT exchange into a word doc, so’s I can git it quick next time Chris shows up ‘n starts shootin’ his mouf offin’.

It actually works pretty well. When you truly NAIL a troll w/ his own lies, copy it off, and next time the piece-o-crap shows up, you can beat him over the head w/ his own stupidity all over again. Guaranteed laffs and loads of fun for the whole family!

I thought the lower age limit for Right Wing Loons recruited by the RNC was 12. This guy sounds like he’s 8. The RNC is really hitting the bottom of the barrel. The quality of it’s recruits these days is abysmal. They aren’t even fun to play with they are so stupid.

Yeah, but did you read the part of the thread where Chris is shootin ‘ offin’ his mouf about his “military service” in the 82nd n’ going’ to Korea, and Wayne calls him out on it?

Comedy GOLD… Poor Chris… he was windin’ up ta really go off on me, and just like that, he’s gone!
