Gen. Peter Pace for Senate?

By Amanda Terkel on Oct 1st, 2007 at 11:16 am

Gen. Peter Pace for Senate?

Today, Gen. Peter Pace retires as Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman. The National Review is calling on Virginia to draft Pace to run for Senate:

Defense secretary Robert Gates declined to recommend Pace for another two-year term in the military’s top job, fearing that contentious Senate confirmation hearings would rehash past decisions about the war in Iraq. But Pace has another route to the Senate: Virginia conservatives should recruit him to be their candidate in next year’s race to replace the state’s retiring senior senator, Republican John Warner. [...]

Virginia Republicans should tell this devoted patriot that he is not done, and encourage him to take on another mission.

Pace has been a consistent defender of the Bush administration’s policies, insisting in 2006 that everything in Iraq is “going very, very well from everything you look at” and claiming that Donald Rumsfeld “leads in a way that the good Lord tells him is best for our country.” More recently, he calledl homosexuality “immoral” and a “sin.”

So if Pace runs for Senator will his oponent be unable to say anything negative about the General and will congress pass some sanction against the opponent if he does?

  2. VerbalKint says:

I guess the Neocon fantasists must not grasp the fact that the Republican party is pretty much history in the next election.

With over a year to go, it is a bit early to declare victory.

    Say it isn’t so.

What do you think the odds for a republican president are?

  7. dim wit says:

Well, Mr. Pace does have the required amount of incompetence to be a Senator.

  8. celtic cynic says:

    devoted patriot???

    Devoted to what?

  9. Jackie says:

Pace wont last long in the running as he will be found out and his closet door will open. Yes he is light in the loafers and will join Senator Craig’s clue. Look it isn’t that hard to see Pace is hiding who he really is and he most likely knows the men’s room code. Like others before him he’s riding on the medals he wears but does as he’s told.
The soldiers are starting to speak up and this will be over before it begins. Remember Pace will have to have his background looked into and then the end.

  10. The Republic of Stupidity says:

Just out of curiosity, what the heck is Rummy refering to when he makes that gesture in the photo?

Uh oh! Time for the Monday AM “Photo Caption Contest”!

  11. Badmoodman says:

Peter Pace is merely George Allen without the “macaca” albatross.

  12. Xbot says:

So what does the rest of the sign say? ‘We’re at war, even if it hasn’t been declared, nobody agrees with it except those who profit from it, and it was entirely based on lies in the first place. Enlist today!’

  13. Xbot says:

    #13 – No CAPS

Oh, and as for the caption contest – “Yeah, Georgie boy is about thiiiiis big. Barbara told me so.”

  14. bilbobaggins says:

Works for me. He should be a slam dunk to defeat.

  15. Jay Randal says:

Pace is a lousy person, and bigoted general, so unfit to even be considered for the Senate, but GOPers love creeps like him.

Dream on Right Wing Loon Keltoi, because that’s all you have left. If you think the people in this country are going to give the Republicans the power to totally ruin this country, you can think again.

Your nightmare will begin in early January 2009 when the Democrats have a President and veto proof majority in the Senate.

That is true. Plus there is so much left for you and yours to foul up.

Sure – he can run for the Christian Fascist Party!

    YAY!!

Uh-oh, General. Stay out of restroom stalls and lay off the masseurs. You’re ripe for o-u-t-i-n-g.

I though hobbits were supposed to be a jolly, cheerful folk….

I am not a Right Wing Loon. There are real RWL’s out there and they would have nothing to do with me. Just cause I don’t drink MoveOns Kool Aid doesn’t make me a loon.

It will hardly be a nightmare if the Dems do well in 2008. I lived through Carter, I lived through Clinton, what will be will be. Actually, if I could just wave my magic wand and pick the next Prez I’d probably go with Obama, just because it would be nice to get the non-white President barrier dispensed with.

And it IS too early to call this next election. Your mind is made up, but this in not the case with most Americans. As far as the chances of a Republican winning the 08, it depends totally on who is nominated. Hillary may have a lock on the nomination, but I have a feeling Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton is going to be too much for voters to stomach.

Oh hell no! No more religious fanatics in politices please!

  22. Abby says:

Gen. Peter Pace for Senate? I don’t see why not. He’s a White Christian homophobic religious bigot who believes the nation’s laws should comply to his version of his religion’s laws, screw the rest of the bastard Americans.

In my books, the perfect Republican.

Wow, living through Clinton must have been really tough, what with a booming economy, low unemployment, the complete absence of illegal and disastrous wars, and the Bill of Rights and the rest of the Constitution still in force.

  24. VerbalKint says:

Oh, and Keltoi, comparing Carter and Clinton the way you did is indeed right wing loony stuff.

Um….they WERE both Democrats, weren’t they? Bilbo suggested a Democratic Presidency was a Nightmare scenario for me, which it is not, so that was the basis of the comparison. Just wild, looney stuff, alrighty!

is it too early to declare Mission Accomplished?
