Harkin: ‘Maybe Limbaugh was high on drugs again.’

Today on the Senate floor, Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) condemned Rush Limbaugh’s “phony soldiers” comment, saying that the radio host makes these “provocative things to make more money.” He then offered another possible explanation for Limbaugh’s “over-the-line” remarks:

Well, I don’t know. Maybe he was just high on his drugs again. I don’t know whether he was or not. If so, he ought to let us know. But that shouldn’t be an excuse.

Transcript:

HARKIN: I’ll just close, Mr. President, by noting that in August, seven soldiers published an op-ed in the New York Times criticizing the current strategy in Iraq. Tragically, two of those soldiers were subsequently killed in action, making the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

I can only assume by Mr. Limbaugh’s definition that they too were “phony soldiers.” Now what’s most despicable is that Mr. Limbaugh says these provocative things to make more money. So he castigates our soldiers, this makes more news, more people tune in, he makes more money.

Well, I don’t know. Maybe he was just high on his drugs again. I don’t know whether he was or not. If so, he ought to let us know. But that shouldn’t be an excuse.

As much as I dislike rightwing idiots, I dont think personal issues should be brought up to bash any stupid statement made by stupid people.

We could have the cleanest guy saying stuff about US soldiers or about bombing Iran and he still would be dead wrong.

He never quit being high on drugs and little boys. Slam dunk!!!

Will this be what gets Rush off of Armed Forces Radio? They don't have much of a choice as it is, but we can surely do better.

Hello congress, there's a war or two going on. Can we please focus on things that actually matter!

  6. ggibson1 Says:

How about showing this type of balls when talking about Cheney, Bush, and the Republican Senators? Call out my Senator Lugar. I have called his office several times but who am I? Nobody. Call him and the others out on the floor of the Senate. They should be ashamed of how they have acted these past 7 years.

  7. Jason M. Hendler Says:

As Rush Limbaugh just said on his radio program, quit hiding behind the Senate microphone and come on to his show, and have it out like a real man.

You Dems are cowards, and wouldn't dare go head to head with Rush, because he would slaughter you. You are right to fear him.

    WRONG

It was John Soltz that called out Limpballs to have him on his show last week. Lush is late to the party. He will say on his program that nobody would come and you will believe it.

And I would take Lush any day.

  9. Pete Bogs Says:

ZING! I actually think Harkin was being nice to Limbaugh... the truth is, it's not drugs, Rush is just a d**k...

  17. cha cha cha Says:

"That would be foolish of him. He makes more money and has more influence right where he is."

    plus, he'd lose.

  18. Marie Says:

I agree that the Senate and the House are wasting a lot of time on matters concerning MoveOn and now Limbaugh, Columbia University, et al.
But these are the levels to which the news and the public attention has stooped.
All that being said, I regret that time which should be spent in dealing with really important legislation, the war in Iraq and Bush&Co lies, secrecy and felonious activities is being spent on this.
However, the Repugs are still controlling the rules of play, and taking the higher ground doesn't succeed in this adversarial climate.
It's fair to fight back. You have to get the attention of the bullies.

  19. familyman Says:

    Comment by Spudge Boy

I don't know - this seems like a sideshow. Tit for tat. The republicans were stupid to waste their time and our money on condemning the MoveOn ad and the Dems are stupid for wasting their time and our money on this. Let's get on with ending this war, not throwing a tantrum every time someone on the other side of the argument throws an insult.

  20. dim wit Says:

    Comment by familyman — October 1, 2007 @ 4:15 pm

While I support your ideals, your naive idealism is the reason why the Republicans can call the Dems unpatriotic every time the Dems attempt to do something to end the war.

  21. Sean Says:

So how about bringing those troops home? Or I guess it's more important to bash right wing nut jobs. Because they are so rare.

  23. bbrown8370 Says:

    Our worthless Democrats...

I am registered Democratic, but my party is really disgusting me. It really seems as though they're more interested in having issues and beating the Republicans than anything else. That's why they won't end the war. They want the issue in 2008. "Why do anything that might change the public's mood when it is so heavily in their favor?" is the attitude. It doesn't seem like "because you can save thousands of lives" is a good enough answer. It seems like if there are 99 Dems and one Republican senator in the Senate (who decides to put a block on whatever bill Dems want to pass), the Democrats will throw up their hands and do nothing and insist that we've just got to beat that one guy in the next election to get anything done.

And now this. Democrats focus all the public's attention into a "gotcha" of the Republicans for denouncing MoveOn and now having to denounce Rush or look like hypocrites. Guess what, we already know Republicans are hypocrites. Sadly, now we know that you are, too. You could have brought an end to the Iraq War like you said you would, but instead you choose to point out hypocritical Republicans.

Oh, and one more thing. It's called free speech. Don't denounce people for exercising that right.

  24. boreas Says:

I like Harkin (and really dislike Limbaugh) but this is just wrong. It's a very cheap shot and it leaves us on the Left open to ridicule for always paying lip service to compassion and understanding of human foibles while ridiculing the afflicted.

Let's face it, folks, as odious as Limbaugh is, he *is* afflicted by his addictive nature. We can't go around ridiculing him for it.

    Comment by Michael — October 1, 2007 @ 4:25 pm

Then you better sign up Michael, they need you. Don't forget to get the kids involved too. They would have fun over in Iraq. 115+ daily, getting shot at, and blown up. I mean if it is so urgent, and important, then it is your patriotic duty to serve, and make sure you family serves as well. Otherwise the Islamofacsists win.

  26. cha cha cha Says:

"Then you better sign up Michael"

if his 'ardent support' of the military is anything like rush's, it stops at a certain point just short of actually signing up.

  27. Veritas Says:

High on Drugs Nothing! Limbaugh is a Certified Moron.

  28. Veritas Says:

boreas: I disagree. His dependency is "his problem", that's true - but when he uses it to make excuses for his behavior which is "public" then he invites the criticism. He deserves all the criticism for both his dependency on drugs as well as his mouth. Since they are connected, they cannot be separated and dealt with that way. He is the sum total of ALL of his parts, as we all are. You can't begin to sort and cull and then castigate others for believing that he's unable or unwilling to kick the habit and uses it to excuse his disgusting behavior. Life just doesn't work that way.

  29. Veritas Says:

Boreas: P.S. No one but Rush is putting those addictive drugs down his throat! He owns both - the addiction and the behavior. Plenty of people have overcome their addictions because they "wanted to".

  31. ANeccessaryEvil Says:

I would like Harkin to quote exactly where he called an active or retired soldiers or soldiers who actually were in Iraq or Afghanistan phony. He was referring to those "phony soldiers" that make up things like Jesse Macbeth, a former hero to the left. Macbeth claimed to be a an Army Ranger and alleged US military was routinely murdering Iraqi civilians. He claimed to kill 200 people himself, many at close range, including some as the prayed in mosque.

I am sure the enemy ate that up for their agenda toward United States efforts in Iraq. Another example of the left willing to do anything, yet still do nothing at all.

  32. bilbobaggins Says:

You Dems are cowards, and wouldn’t dare go head to head with Rush, because he would slaughter you. You are right to fear him.
    Comment by Jason M. Hendler

Thanks for the laugh Jason. I needed that. The thought that Rush Limbaugh could slaughter any Democratic opponent gave me a good laugh. Hell, I could out debate Rush. No one fears him, it's just that no one thinks that he is worth the time of day.

How about this, once one of the Rethugs has a public debate with moveon.org about their Betrayus ad, then we'll talk to you about having one of our Democrats go on Rush's show. My bet is that there isn't a Republican out there who would dare go face to face with moveon.org.

  33. cha cha cha Says:

"My bet is that there isn’t a Republican out there who would dare go face to face with moveon.org."

keep in mind that repubs will only do a debate if there are no minorities involved.

  34. bilbobaggins Says:

He was referring to those “phony soldiers” that make up things like Jesse Macbeth, a former hero to the left.
    Comment by ANeccessaryEvil

Sorry Right Wing Loon ANeccessaryEvil. That excuse has been thoroughly debunked. Limbaugh didn't mention Jessie Macbeth until long after he had already called our soldiers "phony soldiers".

Besides, if that is the case, then why did Rush apologize?

  35. Juan C. Says:

Vendetta, the US is highly sensitive when it comes to its soldiers. I would say that there is people who is doing its best out there and people who is deranged, soldiers are not different from this.

Soldiers that thought the whole invasion was wrong, that delivering democracy with guns and weapons, that suspected about their true mission when the Oil Ministry was the most important building in Baghdad to be seized, are correct and are good, intelligent people.

Soldiers that raped women and shot point blank kids in Qana, are despicable as any tyrant.

I hold special regards for soldiers as much as I hold special regards for cooks or gardeners.

So the MoveOn issue as the Rush issue is almost irrelevant for me while soldiers are being shot and civilians still bombed.

  36. bilbobaggins Says:

“I can only assume by Mr. Limbaugh’s definition that they too were “phony soldiers.”
Yet another politician making uninformed comments based on other political hacks trying to defend MoveOn.org.
    Comment by Tracy1

Right Wing Loon Tracy1 thinks that calling Limbaugh on his insult to our troops is defending moveon.org. S/he makes a typical Rethug leap in coming to that conclusion. But then s/he has to do something to deflect attention from the fact that her hero Rush opened his big fat prejudiced evil mouth one time to many and got caught with his pants down. Too bad so sad Right Wing Loon. Get over it.

  37. interestedlitigant Says:

Drudge visitors: just read the comments, you'll see what this movement is all about.

  38. bilbobaggins Says:

    You people are crazy!
    Comment by Billy Hill

No Right Wing Loon Billy Hill, you are delusional. Rush said absolutely nothing about ABC news or about Jesse Macbeth during the conversation he was having with the so-called "soldier". They were both talking about a previous caller who was supporting soldiers speaking out against the War in Iraq. No matter how many times you want to try to twist what Rush did into something that suits your purpose, you can't argue with what he really said, not want you want us to think he said. I have read the transcript of his show and it didn't happen like you would like to think it happened.

  39. Juan C. Says:

Clearly this is an unbalanced individual.

    I agree.

TP should ban Tracy for writing threats against another commenter.

  40. Krazny Says:

people like billy hill are crazy. Look at how you have to parse and select Rush's statements to defend him! Your minor god Rush, screwed up big time, and it looks like it is biting him in the ass.

  41. F_Turk Says:

Anyone notice how Harkin wants to say "it's no excuse" for Limbaugh to be on drugs and (allegedly) say things he disagrees with, but just last week Harkin wanted a retiring General to distance himself from comments which said that there's no place for adultery in the Armed Forces?

Harkin is now not only unreliable, he's laughable. We should e-mail Harkin and tell him that it's no excuse to be a U.S. Senator and to act the way he is acting purely for political gain.

  42. laughing_all_the way Says:

You can get the facts with less energy than it takes to rant against Bush or make ad hominem attacks against Rush.

All the transcripts are available on RushLimbaugh.com. Probably too difficult to take the time to read the facts and make an honest assessment. Much easier to whine and emote. Bush hating fanaticism at it's best. Such a miserable bunch. Completely overcome with profound, irrational hatred.

    Very amusing to watch.

    Let the crackup continue!

Change Bush hating to Bush loving, and it sounds exactly like the current crop of right wingers. Though Bush worshiping might be more accurate.

  45. ed_edd_eddie_edward Says:

If you like Limbaugh or not is a moot point here. The fact is Senator Harry Reid is using Mcarthy-like attacks on a private citizen and denying a person their first amendment rights. You can disagree with a person, but to use the power of the United States Senate on the senate floor to do so is going way to far.
The fact is that Limbaugh never said the things the way that Senator Reid and others have said that he did. Mr. Limbaugh was talking about an individual who claimed to have been in the war and killed people in the war, but was found out he actually washed out of basic training and never did the things he claimed he did and that other soldiers did with him. He was talking about people like that.
Senator Reid, can you say ethics violation? When the facts some out that he claimed a private citizen said something he did not say and attempted to deny a person their first amendment rights I doubt if he will remain the majority leader, and maybe not even a senator, much longer. To deny someones constitutional right is a serious offense.

  46. laughing_all_the way Says:

It is amazing how obsessed the left is with Rush!!! The truth really does hurt, that is why they are so focused and reactionary to every little thing he says.

Just a reflection of how great a job he is doing to promote his ideas.

Keep up the good work Rush! We all know the truth. On the left, and the right. The fascist lefties are going to keep trying silence you!

Looking forward to this electoral season, it is going to be one heck of a roller coaster ride!

    Viva RUSH!

  47. Kozakid Says:

Was Harkin high on drugs when he married that ugly man he calls his wife?

  48. Kozakid Says:

Rush challenged Homosexual Harry to come on his show and repeat his lies. We all know Homosexual Harry lacks the cojones for that.

  49. searchlight Says:

    To Billbobaggins and others ...

You are wrong...again. Rush had a morning update on September 25th, a day before the caller that everyone is now so upset about.

The update is about Jesse Macbeth, the supposed Army Ranger corporal who told of the abuses by American troops, killing unarmed civilians -- hundreds of men, women, and even children. In one gruesome account, translated into Arabic and spread widely across the Internet, MacBeth describes the horrors this way: "We would burn their bodies... hang their bodies from the rafters in the mosque."

The trouble was this guy a phony. He lasted 44 days in the Army, never mde it out of boot camp, never was a Ranger, never was a corporal, never went to Iraq and recently was sentenced to 5 months in jail for falsifing his military record.

The Rush Limbaugh update discussed how the anti war movement uses these phone soldiers with phony stories to support allegations against the military. Then when the truth is known, no one every corrects the record or apologizes to the troops for the slander.

That was the phone soldier story - that was what Limbaugh was referring to. You clearly have not read the transcript.

  50. gmood Says:

Ironic thing is that Harkin is just the kind of "phony soldier" that Limbaugh was talking about...those that exaggerate or falsify their service history.

"In 1979, Mr. Harkin, then a congressman, participated in a round-table discussion arranged by the Congressional Vietnam Veterans' Caucus. 'I spent five years as a Navy pilot, starting in November of 1962,' Mr. Harkin said at that meeting, in words that were later quoted in a book, Changing of the Guard, by Washington Post political writer David Broder. 'One year was in Vietnam. I was flying F-4s and F-8s on combat air patrols and photo-reconnaissance support missions. I did no bombing.'

"That clearly is not an accurate picture of his Navy service. . . . Mr. Harkin's Navy record shows his only decoration is the National Defense Service Medal, awarded to everyone on active service during those years. He did not receive either the Vietnam Service medal or the Vietnam Campaign medal, the decorations given to everyone who served in the Southeast Asia theater."

But then, we all know Bush orchestrated 9/11 right? Why worry about Bin Laden?

    What a tool.

    Heh, heh... Good times.

  53. SR71 Says:

    Nice try liberals!

Let the troops decide if Rush was dishonoring them.

Another fine example of the Libs taking something out of contest and trashing them.

  54. Krazny Says:

LOL Rush stepped in it, and the rightards are out trying to make him sound like a human. Sorry guys, it doesn't appear to be working. Perhaps you should scream louder. Rush called soldiers phonys, if they didn't support the Iraq. Time to go back to reading comprehension 101.

  55. Juan C. Says:

  56. Juan C. Says:

    TP, Tracy1 should be banned.

  57. gmood Says:

Now comes Tom Harkin. On Monday the Iowa Senator lashed out at Dick Cheney, claiming the Vice President had no right to criticize Mr. Kerry's policies for the war on terror because Mr. Cheney had a deferment back then: "When I hear this coming from Dick Cheney, who was a coward, who would not serve during the Vietnam War, it makes my blood boil."

"Coward"? Such a comment would take chutzpah coming from anyone. But Senator Harkin is a proven fabricator when it comes to his own Vietnam-era record, as shown during his own failed 1992 Presidential bid. Consider this excerpt from a Wall Street Journal news story by James M. Perry from December 26, 1991:

It turned out Mr. Harkin had not seen combat and was stationed in Japan.

  58. Kozakid Says:

    gmood:

Good job. I had forgotton about Homosexual Harkin's lies about his military service.

This seems to be a phenomenon amonst the left. Dan Rather used to claim that he was a former Marine. However, Rather washed out during boot camp and, thus, never earned the title "Marine."

Let's also keep in mind that the pussy Podesta was Bill Clinton's chief of staff. Unlike Rush Limbaugh and his support for the military, the draft-dodger Clinton said he loathed the military.

  59. Juan C. Says:

BTW, Bush can hardly orchestrate his English...so... I think thats out of the question.

  60. keithn Says:

WOW!!!!! it is utterly scary and down right appalling to listen to some of the childish comments on here. Please, by all means don't bother to even do some of your own research to understand the true story and unfolding of events. 1) Sickening to see our so-called senators wasting our time and money over a trivial matter over a 3 minute conversation just because they need something to stand on (they're drowning in their own vomit) 2) Since when did the liberal movement ever support the troops, never!!!!all the while paying for a full page ad "defaming" an actual individual and his integrity and character, which by the sounds of it most of you individuals on this post seem to lack. 3) Liberals can never be trusted to run government, period!!!!! how can anyone take you seriously with all the name bashing going on in here. Stop Whining so damned much about the war(s). Its inevitable, we as a country voted for it, humanity requires it, history supports it, utopia's don't exist so stop trying to create one. Extreme Islam needs an attitude adjustment and we're here to do just that. Quit crying about our soldiers dying for whatever cause you may think they're dying for. They're professional, they made the choice and are living with it day to day and doing it well.

  61. Kozakid Says:

The Homosexual Harkin, until he figured out that the Marines and soldiers would become angry, tried to get Limbaugh taken off of Armed Forces Radio.

Note that there has been no outcry from members of the military to have Limbaugh removed from their radio station. They know the sissies in the Democrat Party are lying about what Limbaugh said. They're not as gullible as these idiots who are spoonfed lies from Think Progress and Media Matters.

  62. FactChecker16 Says:

Harkin is the real phony. If you will correctly remember, he tried for years to pass himself off as a combat aviator. He got away with it for years but finally it was dicovered he was a ferry pilot stateside. He got a few strings pulled and he got a cush duty here in the states but tried to pass himself off as a something else. Most of you people who hate Rush no deep down where your courage should reside that he is almost always accurate and right about most everything. He did show courage when he got himself into rehab and told it like it was on the air for all to hear.

  63. Juan C. Says:

keithn, propaganda happy hour is in about 2 hours. Catch up.

  64. keithn Says:

btw, go to FBI.gov and look at the statistics of violent crime here in America...we kill ourselves more each day in this country, than whatever "war statistics" you may read about in the news. Put your perspectives in place. No its not justification for 1 life lost in Iraq or Afghanistan, but they're doing a job while we just kill each other here everyday for stupid things like road rage, and getting picked on at school. Your so concerned about pulling out of Iraq, how about all the deaths related to just trying to get a higher education in this country.

  67. Kozakid Says:

Wikipedia notes the following about Homosexual Harkin's lies about his military service: "References to this controversy were deleted from Wikipedia by staffers from Harkin's senate office"

Isn't it interesting how liberals such as Harkin lie about others and then try to hide the truth about themselves? It's a shame he didn't go flying with Wellstone.

  68. Damien Says:

Ouch. That hurt Rush's feelings. Now he'll need to self-medicate.

  69. Dave-in-PA Says:

It would be funny, if it wasn't so sad, to see all you liberals getting all worked up over an issue you don't have the facts right. You're only making fools of yourselves if you keep depending on Media Matters and MoveOn.org for your information. They don't care about accuracy. They only care about creating misinformation that they use to get YOU to send them checks. And you liberals are sadly dumb enough to fall for it.

  70. keithn Says:

lol..sorry juan, i guess the my thread went off on a tangent...

  71. cowboyup6 Says:

Sen. Harkless, just like the rest of the libs/lefitists, and the Demoncratic losers, know Rush was referring to your hero, Jesse Macbeth. Jesse was a complete fraud in the grand tradition of Demoncratic support of our troops, thus his hero status in your eyes. As the lowlifes you are, I am amazed any of you have the audacity to suggest that Rush be removed from his armed services broadcasts. If you weren't so much like the Sandanistas, I would suggest polling the troops, but your kind was never much for letting others make their own choices. The undeniable loathing of the military by the Demoncrats and their leftists allies (you) makes the indigniation charade too comical.

  72. Koko Loco Says:

Limbaugh and O'Reilly exhibit more narcissistic traits than anybody I've ever observed. Boderline pathogical, it seems, to the point that the truth really doesn't matter to them. 75. cowboyup6 Says:

The undeniable loathing of the military by the Demoncrats and their leftists allies (you) makes the indignation charade too comical.

  76. Krazny Says:

This thread must have gotten linked by the drudge report or something given the large number of whackos showing up to defend Rush. Funny thing is, I had never heard of the Jesse MacBeth guy until all this started. I guess he wasn't much of a hero to the left after all. Rush on the other hand is a minor god to the right. A sad, sad state of affairs.

  77. texasborn Says:

Democrats - Harkin and Reid have made you look verrrrrrrrrrrrrry foolish. This is made all the more sad after reading above that Harkin is, himself -- a phony soldier in the same vein as Macbeth.

I'm thinking most of you are wishing you could revoke your post now that you know that Rush was, again -- right.

  78. Lakota Sunshine Says:

Soooooo predictable. As usual, in leiu of an actual statement relative to the issue at hand, the liberals resort to personal attacks and name calling. That's why left wing talk radio doesn't work. Once you get past "Bush Sucks," they really don't have much to contribute. While we're on the subject of demoralizing the troops, what effect do you think it has on our fighting men and women when people like Harry Reid give up and say the war is lost, no reason for you to be there anymore? I can tell you one thing....Rush will not let your hypocrisy go unchallenged. MEGA DITTOS and God bless our troops!

It's hilarious that any lib would even TRY to act like they support the troops more than Limbaugh. Any of you libs on this thread been over to Iraq to show your support like Rush has?

If the liberals are piling on Rush, he must really being doing a lot of things right. Attacking Limbaugh (and being intellectually dishonest) for this statement proves liberals are really grasping at straws in an effort to take him down.

  81. Sole_Earwitness Says:

Having perused every comment in this thread, one thing is obvious: none of the commenters actually heard the referenced exchange between Rush and the caller at the time it happened. I'm sure that lots of you heard the soundbite after the fact, but by then your opinions had already been formed by whoever was spoonfeeding you that day.
I was listening to Rush that day and heard it all as it happened, including the previous caller who is referenced in the exchange. When Rush spoke the words "phony soldiers" I immediately knew he meant Macbeth, Beauchamp, and their ilk. It was unmistakable.
One other thing. When Rush apologised, he was apologising to the armed forces for Reid and Co's slander, not his own. Rush has not said anything that he needs to apologize for.

  82. Navy Senior Chief Says:

“Then you better sign up Michael”

if his ‘ardent support’ of the military is anything like rush’s, it stops at a certain point just short of actually signing up.

I am in the military, I have made it a career that is progressing into its 22nd year. Two of my sons are in the military. ALL THREE OF US have been in both wars over the last 24 months. I just returned from a one year assignment in Balad.

My oldest is a MARINE Captain, my second oldest is a PVT in the Army.

ALL THREE OF US know that we need to be there. I am often amazed by some people who have never wore the uniform believe themselves to be experts in what we need and our desires.

More than 80 percent of the military members that I have talked to believe that we're on the right course NOW. I will be the first to say that mistakes were made. But if you know war, there are always mistakes made. The thing to remember is to learn from them. We were losing WWII for two years until we got our heads out of our ***. Its a good thing that some of you were not around then.

  83. DefeatBillary Says:

What a bunch of losers, having to twist words to come up with blanks to fire at Rush. He runs circles around all those clown democrats. And if he's doing in while on drugs then that's just more insulting to the dem's intelligence level. Go read the transcript of what was really said, and see what a farce it is. Murtha, Carry, and the whole bunch should be apologizing to him and the whole country for such weak actions. The same ones who voted to cut of funding for our troops show who really lacks patriotism, and where's they're long awaited apology?? we won't be holding our breath for that..ha. But that's ok, Rush did apologize to the troops for the Dems and their "in the pocket" mainstream media.

Let's not assume that he is guilty simply becaus ewe dislike him. Is that the America we want? Why is congress wasting time addressing this? That is not what I voted for. They give hope to our enemy that if they just kill a few more Americans we will turn tail and run. Imagine the effect on our enemy if we were united and said "We will not leave until we achieve victory. No matter what the cost." Democrat leaders are despicable. Now they attack a private citizen, knowing full well that they are spreading lies. There has been no greater supporter of our troops than Rush Limbaugh and they know it. All this from the party that has already declared our troops defeated; that has compared out troops to Nazis, accused them of torture; from a party that is quick to belive the very worst instead of seeing the very best in our troops ie Haditha; a party that insults a four star general leading our troops in battle, HEY, HE IS ONE OF THE TROOPS!! that did not stop you from calling him a liar. You disgust me. Rush is more of a patriot than any of the Democrat leaders will ever know how to be. Rush beat his addiction to painkillers to bad the democrats can't show the same amount of strength and beat their addiction to deafeat in Iraq

Understanding Democracy? Question - Did our founding fathers attend church services in the Capitol Building and other federal buildings? Did our founding fathers ever determine to setup a welfare state? Were our founding fathers for or against high taxes (even the rich)? And so forth. I'm talking about the guys who wrote the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The documents that have propelled this country into being the greatest of all time.

If you're against religion in government and schools, if you think it's ok to force people by threat of imprisonment (IRS) to give money to charities they don't agree with (welfare and entitlements) if you're for high taxes on anyone, then YOU have no clue about the original meaning of Democracy.

Those attacks are part of the Senate Record. Rush has nothing to apologize for and believe me, he won't. The "phony soldiers" to whom he was referring were Jesse Macbeth and his ilk. Macbeth IS a phony soldier who was kicked out of the Army after 44 days in boot camp. Later he claimed to have earned a Purple Heart in Afghanistan and that he was an Army Ranger who participated in the killing of innocent civilians. He, and those like him, ARE "phony soldiers". I have just finished reading a transcript of your diatribe on the Senate floor today regarding Rush Limbaugh. I can assure you, Senator, that no one is fooled by your nonsensical rhetoric. The facts speak for themselves. Mr Limbaugh is not guilty of anything you claim. As always, he speaks the unadulterated truth, and for that, gets to be on the receiving end of such bilge that you proffer as statesmanlike debate.

When are you going to realize, sir, that the troops are not some political pawn for you and those of your ilk to use in the promotion of your misguided view of the direction Americans want this country to go in. The troops whom you claim now to defend, those very troops whom you have repeatedly called failures by your declaration that the war is lost, know exactly what you are trying to do with your smear of Mr. Limbaugh. Those very troops are fighting to protect your right to make a complete ass of yourself on the Senate floor. They know it. You know it. We all know it.

You are very much aware of the soldiers to whom Mr. Limbaugh was referring last week. Those individuals who made false claims as to thier service, were embraced by the left in this country as having a valid point of view for political purposes, then subsequently outed as the frauds they truly are.

There's something you can surely relate to, sir. Fraud. I would respectfully suggest you finish out your term quietly so as not to do any more damage to this country. Then go back to Nevada and live out your life in the obscurity you deserve.

  136. vintruvious Says:

Below is a transcript of the inital story for which Rush defines, or sets as his definition, what a "phony soldier" is, Jesse MacBeth.

This is a story of who the left props up as heroes. They have their celebrities and one of them was Army Ranger Jesse MacBeth. Now, he was a "corporal." I say in quotes. Twenty-three years old. What made Jesse MacBeth a hero to the anti-war crowd wasn't his Purple Heart; it wasn't his being affiliated with post-traumatic stress disorder from tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. No. What made Jesse MacBeth, Army Ranger, a hero to the left was his courage, in their view, off the battlefield, without regard to consequences. He told the world the abuses he had witnessed in Iraq, American soldiers killing unarmed civilians, hundreds of men, women, even children. In one gruesome account, translated into Arabic and spread widely across the Internet, Army Ranger Jesse MacBeth describes the horrors this way: "We would burn their bodies. We would hang their bodies from the rafters in the mosque."

Now, recently, Jesse MacBeth, poster boy for the anti-war left, had his day in court. And you know what? He was sentenced to five months in jail and three years probation for falsifying a Department of Veterans Affairs claim and his Army discharge record. He was in the Army. Jesse MacBeth was in the Army, folks, briefly. Forty-four days before he washed out of boot camp. Jesse MacBeth isn't an Army Ranger, never was. He isn't a corporal, never was. He never won the Purple Heart, and he was never in combat to witness the horrors he claimed to have seen. You probably haven't even heard about this. And, if you have, you haven't heard much about it. This doesn't fit the narrative and the template in the Drive-By Media and the Democrat Party as to who is a genuine war hero. Don't look for any retractions, by the way. Not from the anti-war left, the anti-military Drive-By Media, or the Arabic websites that spread Jesse MacBeth's lies about our troops, because the truth for the left is fiction that serves their purpose. They have to lie about such atrocities because they can't find any that fit the template of the way they see the US military. In other words, for the American anti-war left, the greatest inconvenience they face is the truth.

    A true "Phony Soldier"

You are a coward and a fool, and I'm no longer inclined to suffer your drivel. Good bye, and good luck on growing a functional brain. Please have yourself neutered at your earliest convenience.

  140. Donald Ingram Says:

Tom Harkin and the rest of the cast of idiots do not have a clue to what Rush said. If they are so concerned about what is said about the troops, they should put themselfs in chek for what they are saying abot our brave men and women.

  141. Spanky Says:

Harry Reed is a card carrying communist, I don't know why people have such a hard time accepting it. He isn't alone in the congress, we are being over run with commies. If we don't get them out of office, we are destined to fall from within.

    Candidate Harkin Stretches the Truth
    Vietnam isn't the only instance.

the Iowa lawmaker has found himself accused of misleading reporters about the troubles of his deaf brother. In addition, the budgetary mathematics he weaves into his basic stump speech have been challenged on network television. And allegations about Mr. Harkin's truthfulness extend back well before the current campaign, back to his claims that he was a combat pilot in Vietnam.

Sadly for you, I am heading home from my job. I am sure your rejoinder will be witty and intelligent.(doubtful), but you will be twisting in the wind as usual.

  144. lynnmrut Says:

Typical librals! You go by emotions and don't read the transcripts of what was actually said! He was talking about ONE soldier Jesse MacBeth who falsified his military record and said there were soldiers killing civilians in Iraq. (No one in the lib media bothered to check their facts! Was this guy even in Iraq? Not that is would matter since liberals don't think! ) ONE solder is what he was talking about -- and the liberal media (and some people on this blog) take whatever they hear and don't bother to get the facts. If you view is the only view then why can't you back anything up with facts?

  145. Sole_Earwitness Says:

Lol...politicians kill me with how they take everything out of context and reframe it into a slur. Has Senator Harkin actually HEARD what Rush said?

  148. suziqq Says:

Did you read comments 160 and 168 above. Surely they must be lies? That would make Rush's comments well, taken out of context by my hero, Sen Harkin, and we all know he is next to saintlyness (he's no crooked land-dealer like those NJ, NY, NV and IL senators).

So let's stick to topic and talk about getting our troops home NOW. We all know that the right thing to do to help all those folks in Iraq is to pull our troops out, just like we did in Vietnam and, heck, only a couple of million died after that.

  149. suziqq Says:

oops - now comments 159 and 168. I guess the numbers change as comments get pulled because they conflict with the thought police.

  150. Jerry Says:

The left gives up for the troops.

I bet Harkin didn't even listen to the sound bite of the show. Shame on you Sen Harkin.

  154. Awkins Says:

To all of you dufus liberals (all are dufuses as well as most in the media), did you actually listen to what Rush had said or have you heard about this from somewhere else? Rush was talking about a specific individual that was known not to have gone to Iraq and was only in boot camp. All that he "phony soldier" had said was made up. Harkin is making an a$$ out of "u", but not "me". He said that he "assumed" Rush was talking about soldiers against the were as phony soldiers which is not true. I guess you can lead a liberal to water - and push him/her in!

To Buckie Boy: There is no slam dunk here. You have been deceived.

I can't wait until the election, there will be some unemployed democrat's, you mark my words!

  158. Rufus Says:

The worst part of the call Limbaugh took was when the crazy Lefty caller tried to smear the vast majority of active troops by suggesting that they didn't join the military to serve the country, but for rather less noble reasons:

CALLER 2: I have a retort to Mike in Chicago, because I am a serving American military, in the Army. I've been serving for 14 years, very proudly.

    LIMBAUGH: Thank you, sir.

CALLER 2: And, you know, I'm one of the few that joined the Army to serve my country, I'm proud to say, not for the money or anything like that.

    Disgusting.

  162. Davidknows Says:

Um larfor, If you read the Federalist Papers you will discover that the founding fathers railed against the intrusion of religion in government. As for taxes, I'm against them too -- especially my taxes being used to support this insane war. And perhaps you've seen the cover of the latest issue of American Progressive, with General Pet on a cover headlined Sycophant Savior -- isn't that what MoveOn said? As for half-truths, you see it isn't always what they say, it's that they only give half the story, so you only hear one side. As for an example, Hannity said recently that Rudy was a popular Mayor of New York -- actually his popularity rating on September 10th was under 30%. New Yorkers, of which I am, despised him. But Hannity supports him so you won't hear that. By the way, in every poll New Yorkers strongly support Hillary over Rudy, you won't hear that either. That's an example of a half truth.

  163. dgaggi Says:

First let's get the facts straight. Mr Limbaugh was refering to you man who said the he was an Army Ranger, served in Iraq, witnessed countless atrocities from beatings to hangings etc. The Dems were so happy with what the heard they made this kid an anti war poster child before checking him out. They made complete fools of themselves. Not only were his stories untrue. This poster child never finished bootcamp before he was kicked out of the Army. There was another similar situation with another young soldier. I can't remember all of the details, but it was the same situation. The heard what they wanted to hear and the stories turned out to false. This kid again was made a poster child and the libs/dems end up with egg on their face. Mr Limbaugh was refering strickly two these two instances. I listened to the broadcast that day and got the whole story. As a military member, I would feel comfortable calling these two worthless peons phonies. In fact, the word coward fits them better. The fact is that the left is too quick run any story they hear. It doesn't even have to be proven true. Then when they get caught with their pants around their ankles because they were stupid and didn't verify stories. The result to name calling and doing anything to discredit anyone who calls them on it. Another fact is that Mr Limbaugh and also Mr Hannity have done more to support and help service members then any liberal or democrat could ever do. If you want to bash somebody, start in your own left wing of the "house". The Dems control congress and have yet to do a thing about nothing. The bring up a non-binding resolution here and there that gets shot down. Didn't you elect them to end the war and change the country? They have the power to end the war tomorrow, but they don't have the courage to do it. Why don't you get mad and bash them. They are the real problem. I forgot. It's all the Bush administrations fault. Nancy Pelosi disapears for 6 weeks and shows back up with a new face lift. Isn't there a war on? You people on the left have been had. You bought the pander. Deal with it!

  164. WP Bob Says:

Limbaugh's comment of "phoney soldiers" . . . what is the context and did he say "soldier" or "soldiers" . . . I think that it makes a big difference. If he used "soldiers" then he is just trying to spin his way out by attacking his critics. If he used "soldier" then his critics are taking the term out of context to cover their current record.

  165. Davidknows Says:

dgaggi, anyone who listens to Limbaugh, as I do for laughs, knows exactly what he meant. And he meant exactly what he is being accused of saying. Notice the previous caller said he was a Republican who was against the war -- and Rush continued to insist the caller wasn't a Republican, because no Republican could be against the war. Get the point? Or is that too complicated. You tell me, how does Rush know to which party the caller belonged? But if he disagreed with what Rush declared all Republicans must agree therefore he couldn't be a Republican. Whoa, that's a neat bit of logic. And why do you continue to believe a proven liar. (See oxycontin case)

  166. Rickvid in Seattle Says:

Harkin and Reid either know what Limbaugh actually said, and know that they are lying, or don't know what he said, jumped on a false bandwagon (perhaps to try to live down supporting the thugs of MoveOn) and are total incompetants.

  173. scottked Says:

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OCTOBER 1, 2007

Mr. KINGSTON submitted the following resolution

Honoring all Americans serving in the Armed Forces of the United States and commending broadcaster Rush Limbaugh for his relentless efforts to build and maintain troop morale through worldwide radio broadcasts and personal visits to conflict regions.

    Whereas the need to show support for American troops serving and fighting both here and abroad during a time of global conflict has never been greater, with the need to communicate an uplifting message of encouragement to American soldiers eternally important, in addition to the morale-boosting value of personal visits to combat region by highly-regarded individuals;

    Whereas every American, to include service men and women and broadcasters, is entitled to free speech and the free exchange of ideas; Whereas daily radio broadcasts reaching tens of millions of civilians and soldiers both in America and abroad by way of the Armed Forces Radio Network are conducted five days a week by Rush Hudson Limbaugh III;

    Whereas Mr. Limbaugh has consistently used his broadcast time to praise American troops and support them during their ongoing efforts to secure peace in a troubled world;

Whereas Mr. Limbaugh has met with troops in Afghanistan; raised and donated millions of dollars to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation, which provides college scholarships to the children of Marines and veterans of other branches killed in action; features an “Adopt a Soldier” program which provides them with free subscription access to his online program features; and Whereas Mr. Limbaugh’s commitment to American troops serving both here and abroad remains as strong as ever: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the House of Representatives

P.S. Limbaugh was talking about a "self proclaimed" veteran who "suposedly" witnessed atrocities by the US military by the name of Jesse Macbeth, (who was incidently reported by ABC with the same use of "phony soldier")who had been kicked out of boot camp and never was in the military and those like him, of which there have been several, albeit useful to the Dems and their willing accomplices in the drive by media.

Also, Rush has the truth on his side here. The whole interchange in question is posted on his site and it makes it plain where the truth lies.

If you listened to the same broadcast that I did, you would know that he was refering only to soldiers who MADE up war stories that were later proven totally false. Oh, and he was being sarcastic about the caller that against the war. I've been serving for 17 years. It's OK to be against the war. That's what people before me have died defending and what I'm willing to die defending. It's not OK to make up stories that aren't true and not very responsible not to check out stories before you run with them. Rush Limbaugh is an "entertainer" my friend. He doesn't make policy. Why don't you focus on the "get nothing done" congress that's in power right now.

That's what Ann Coulter said when criticized from claiming the mistake Timothy McVeigh made was not blowing up the New York Times building. You don't even know what satire is -- and I assure it ain't what Limbaugh was doing. He wasn't kidding, he hung up a caller who proved him wrong because he didn't have a response to him.
The Limbaughs and Hannity's of the world do this country no good. And I do want to point out that both broadcast from New York -- and New York now has no statewide elected Republicans and even the Mayor has left the party, so I don;t think they're doing a very good job selling their line.

Now I'd say that it's a foregone conclusion that the pubs will retain the executive office because of this type of dead agenting and black propaganda. Keep it up dems and the pubs will control all three branches of government again.

Wow! All you libs sound just like those nasty republicans when you condemn someone for using drugs. I thought it was none of your business if someone wants to use drugs. I also thought you should feel compassionate for people who have problems with addiction. Isn't it a disease? Of course, all of your beliefs go up in smoke when it's someone you disagree with.
All you Woodward and Berstein wanna-bees out there should do some investigative reporting to find out that, Rush Limbaugh was calling a man who made up his military service, a "phony". Put down the building 7 conspiracy papers and the Halliburton financial records and find out what was really said. The transcripts are out there for everyone to read.

So why don't all you military hating libs quit being such hypocrits and stop pretending that you love the military. We see you for what you really are, you hate and despise the military and would just as soon spit on them as look at them. But SILLY ME! I forgot!! John Kerry was in Vietnam!! How could I let that slip my mind??! Rush was referring to ONE soldier by his remark that was taken WAY out of context...and who is a phony soldier receiving benefit not entitled to. It is beyond me how you can take TWO words out of a monologue and and try to make it say something the person never said.

hair glued into place who is either lying now or lied to the voters of Massachusetts six years ago? The sad and tired old man who has difficulty remembering what he said a week ago and sold out his ethics at Bob Jones University? The one who visited his cancer-ridden wife in the hospital to tell her he was divorcing her to marry the woman with whom he was having an affair? The Governor who does not believe in evolution? And all of whom will keep us in Iraq against the wishes of 65% of the American populace? I'm afraid you've been swimming in the Kool-Aid.

  224. jmiah22 Says:

Not to mention every dem candidate lied to their constituency about pulling out of Iraq...

  226. Law1 Says:

I never expected much from Tom Harkin but this is despicable, especially coming from the hypocrites who are so sanctimonious about defending free speech. This crowd will wail and moan about their speech being censored when it is only being challenged, and yet they not only are trying to censor speech that upsets them with the fairness doctrine but then they have to personally attack the speaker by citing a former personal weakness. Truly below the below the belt, and coming from a US Senator, too. Not only personally unworthy but also a dodge of the point Rush is making. They know who and what the "phony soldier" comment is. They just either choose to dishonestly represent it because they can get mileage out of it or they are not free to distance themselves from their masters - George Soros and all the groups that spring from his ill-gotten cash.

Had this been a Republican senator citing Sean Penn's drugs and alcohol and violent tendencies in a mocking speech on the senate floor in an effort to either rebut a point or just score points with his base, I'd be writing the same about that. Too few Democrats in this post have that sort of sense or decency and it's to their own detriment. It just makes it that much harder to believe the sincerity of anything else they say.

  227. Davidknows Says:

Ahh, but here's the difference jmiah22. The Dems will leave a small force there -- that's what they've said. All the Republicans will leave the current sized force intact, McCain even wants to add more troops. And let me ask you this question: What will that disaster be? Do you think the Iraqui's are going to allow Al Quadea to take control any more than they have let us take control? How about Iran, the Iraqui's lost a million men in the war against Iran, think they're going to let the Iranians get control of the oil?
What will happen is what has happened in every other dictator led state that has been broken up -- it will end up in smaller states finding a way to share revenue. Will people die? Unfortunately, they will, but fortunately they won't be your kids. And they definitely won't be mine. Tell me, seriously, what is this disaster you're threatening? That's just some more Bushspeak to keep you scared and in line. Think! Think! Think!

    Comment by WP Bob — October 1, 2007 @ 9:20 pm

He talked quite a bit about Scott Thomas Beauchamp.

The Scott Thomas Beauchamp controversy concerns the publication of a series of diaries by Scott Thomas Beauchamp (b. 1983 St. Louis, Missouri) - a private in the United States Army, serving in the Iraq War, and a member of Alpha Company, 1/18 Infantry, Second Brigade Combat Team, First Infantry Division.[1][2]

In the The New Republic, under the pen name "Scott Thomas", Beauchamp filed three entries about serving at FOB Falcon, Baghdad. These entries concerned misconduct by soldiers, including Beauchamp, during the US post invasion Iraq involvement.

An Army investigation concluded the allegations made by Beauchamp were false. Howard Kurtz of The Washington Post reported that the Army statement said "His platoon and company were interviewed and no one could substantiate the claims."

I know there have been others, it seems like they pop up every couple of months...Scott Thomas is the only one I remember by name.

  242. Law1 Says:

Sure, Barfly, all the Democrat candidates can't tell us honestly what they will do because mean old George Bush won't tell them the truth about Iraq. Right. They don't have access to any information, haven't made multiple trips to Iraq and haven't hired a dozen advisors on the subject. Make up your minds - is he an idiot or an evil genius?

And we can't believe Rush's transcript because it's edited? How suicidal would that be if he did that? Only milliions of listeners and dozens of news outlets that record his shows for soundbites could expose it as fraudulent. He would lose more credibility in an hour by his own hand than the entire Democrat leadership ever had.

You know, Barfly, you really don't have to deal with all these silly points of logic and fact to hold onto your ignorance. You're allowed. Just do us all a favor and vote somewhere they use butterfly ballots.

  243. loangunman Says:

Let's see- Leo DiCaprio must know everything about our environment and certainly has no agenda but gosh he was "king of the world" -what a dork. I digress for those of you too slow to read all my words.

Bottom line- Rush challenged wienie democrat politicians to come on his radio show and debate him and guess what- they won't as they are spineless weasels who bash the military yet somehow attack the biggest hawk in the media for anti-military views.....Duh WTF...I say a stupid strategic move...what say you

Now, this demonstrates the weakness of conservative thought. Liberals are for liberalism - something that is anathema to the strict muslim way of life. Conservatives, on the other hand, love religious repression, so perhaps you should look into it yourself.

  306. loangunman Says:

You....do...realize....Media Matters is financially backed by the Clinton political machine...Hello...McFly- is there anybody in there??????????

  307. omahawi Says:

    STOP!

How many of you actually listened to his whole radio program that day?

I would say maybe 5 so far that have posted.

As an avid Rush listener I can say listening to the radio program from start to finish from 11 AM to 2 PM central standard time, he talked about Jesse MacBeth. He then took a call from a person named Mike from Chicago. After Mike started arguing about why we should be out of Iraq, Mike decided then it was appropriate that he would suggest that he was a soldier. For everyone listening it was something that a person can say without having any proof to back them up. Knowing that they were never to be called on the fact. Rush then took a call from another caller named Mike, who as all soldiers do announce their station in the military. This is where they started talking about Jesse McBeth and calling people like Jesse McBeth, phoney soldiers because the left loves people that have something horrible to say about the military. The problem is they do not check their facts as in the Jesse MacBeth case. Live with it deal with it. To the left. You needs to open your sources of information beyond what the big 3 and all the left wing news papers have to say. George Soros has to much contol over your lives. To the right. It's time to move on. Don't respond. Don't get sucked in. It's not worth it. When you are viewed arguing with an idiot the lines between who is the idiot becomes blurred. It's time to go on to more important things like making sure everyone who votes is a who they say they are. Good luck and God speed.

To all who post after. Listen and learn. To all those who posted before, you spoke to soon.

  308. barfly Says:

  328. Joe Armstrong Says:

No one needs to defend Rush. At this point, it's a matter of public record and the truth has been exposed. However, this debacle is yet another great example of the dem meltdown that is taking place before our eyes. I'm no fan of the pubs, but they're starting to smell like roses as each day goes by while the dems continue to use fascist tactics to shudder their enemies into silence.

The economy is booming and we're making progress in Iraq. The Dems would prefer that we pull out of Iraq instead of cleaning up Bush's mess even if that means millions of people from the middle east have to die. How "progressive". These are the same kind of "progressives" who promoted eugenics and social darwinism, which Hitler ran with and made into his very own Final Solution. "He who knows only his own generation remains aleways a child". And there's quite a few children on this site.

  341. omahawi Says:

Everyone who thinks Rush is an A@@hole, your right. That is why 25,000,000 million people listen to him daily. Or wait, is it the fact that he is entertaining and 99.5 percent of the time can predict what a politician contender is going to do before they do it. I don't listen to him because I agree with him ideologically. I listen to him because he can tell me what I don't know. What everyone "lib" on here does is quote from the small portions of text that they see or hear on the big 3. If anybody really wants it. I have a subscription to Rush 24/7 that my parents got me. If you want the whole audio show let me know. I'm sure Rush wouldn't mind me giving the show out as a freebie.

You can bend it and twist it, you can misuse it and abuse it, but even GOD cannot change the trust.

  342. shaw Says:

Barfly expresses the frustration that the rest of us usually, just swallow! While no one wants to resort to name calling, it is difficult to avoid stereotyping those who make the predictable drones over troop withdrawal...

What American "likes" the idea of being in a state of armed conflict with anyone...? Very few I'm sure. However, those of us are concerned about the future of free choices including the "gay-abortions-anti-war" crowd, is well represented on this site, are actually willing to make an effort protect our families and ways of life.

To your dismay, Rush gives voice to our traditional values in a way that urks you and your ilk...unfortunately, the "Reid Clans" are now asking us to not believe our own ears, and adopt their fantasies...of what someone said. This take complete idiocy to a grand, new level. Only one who is himself on some mind-altering substance might expect us to do anything other than laugh at him..and his minions.

    What a total joke!

The facts are Rush insulted our men and women in uniform, he was caught on tape, then he lied and altered his own transcript, and was caught doing that, then in his defense he slandered a Congressperson with the same insult.

You being impervious to facts, doesn't change their existence, it only indicates the poor state of your mental health. Obviously the divorce, and you being kicked to the curb was as hard on you, as Rush's 3 cases of marriage failure were. Don't blame yourself, we're sure it wasn't your fault - cough.

  344. barfly Says:

Hey Ryan, good to have you back, man.

It's just like old times, tag-teaming these dolts.

You might not remember, as I used a different handle back then.

  345. loangunman Says:

Ryan, did it take you this long to think of your own petty insult- critiqing my mental health, past marriage and then lie about what I heard in terms of what Rush said. Again you prove my point and say nothing factual and attack me- cough. Sorry that was a real cough caught live on this site and then expect anyone to take you serious. Look up hypocrite in the dictionary and come back and see me then......buh bye

  346. Davidknows Says:

I've got a good idea. Why don't all of you Republicans who are so fond of suggesting Democrats move to another country, go fight this war you so love. My kids aren't going and if you want to waste the lives of your kids fighting a futile fight, please go ahead. And all you people so busy praising the great General Pet, aren't you the same folks who praised General Powell when he stood in front of the world and lied us into this war? As for the low approval rating of Congress, you dolts, it's because they won't take the troops out of Iraq! So they can either raise their rating by ending this war or keep it low by continuing to support it. Tell me, which choice would you have them make?

  347. barfly Says:

To your dismay, Rush gives voice to our traditional values in a way that urks you and your ilk…

"Traditional values" - like taking sex-excursions to third-world countries?

Or bashing drug users while using drugs?

Wouldn't he be more at home living in San Francisco?

  348. Ryan Neat Says:

Ah, shaw, roboright and loangunmen, more troop hating wingnuts that will permit one of their own partisan hacks to slander the military as long as it suits their needs.

No wonder these hypocrites are looking at the worst defeat for the GOP in a century, thanks to their behavior! Without wingnuts like you, 2008 will not be such a great year for liberals! You remind the country why poll after poll prefers liberal values and liberal politicians! Thanks for all of the help - useful idiots!

  349. loangunman Says:

I have not yet heard a blog from the circle jerk duo that was factual and still I wait- yet all I get is petty personal attacks- gosh- it hurts- oh I am in pain....ouch....waiting on fact still waiting.........you two are pathetic

  350. omahawi Says:

Just agree when they attack you personally and bring it back to the subject at hand. I listened to the program that day. I told you exactly the call scenario and offered to give you the show from my own computer. Do you want reality or do you want to keep dodging it for as long as you live?

  357. barfly Says:

I am just waiting for Rush's inevitable apology. He knows his sponsors will be leaving, the longer this drags out. Then we'll have fun listening to the synchophants squeal, when he double-crosses them. It's coming, guys. He might have a lot of listeners, but his sponsors will fold.

  364. loangunman Says:

That's all this is about- bringing down Rush- guess what- liberal losers- aint gonna happen. Nice try- as usual it wont work but nice try- keep trying and wasting your time on this- it's fun to watch you fail again and again

  374. iowafalcon Says:

I really don't care about what the politics or facts are surrounding why Senator Harkin said what he said. I am one of the folks that he is supposed to represent. I am embrassed by Mr. Harkins behavior. Please do not judge Iowa, or Iowans by the poor character shown by Mr. Harkin. The senate floor is not the place to take a cheap shot at a recovering addict, and if someone is going to do such a thing, it should not be an Iowan.

If you are from Iowa, please contact Mr. Harkin and explain that this is no way to behave as our representative, and ask him to publicly apologize for this behavior. We have enough problems with partisans putting politics above decency (as evidenced by almost all of the comments above) without having senators engaging in this this type of filth. How can I ask my children to respect our government when the people that we (Iowans) send to Washington act in a way that would get then grounded? How have we gone so far that adults are cheering for this type of behavior, as if the floor of the senate were nothing but a pro wrestling show?

  375. loangunman Says:

Or would you prefer to just attack me personally again since that is all you have

  376. barfly Says:

Rush insulted troops in the field - only a fool would think there will be no adverse consequences.

  377. omahawi Says:

You bring up a great point. It's not the outcome of the matter, it's in the media's mind the "Seriousness of the charge"

To everyone that doesn't like Rush it doesn't matter what the facts in the end say. It's that someone said he was giving crap to soldiers. Listen to the show more then a day and you will know this man care about every soldier in the field. He care about every soldier that has ever defended our nation. He care more then all democrats combined about the successful outcome of the conflict at hand. To questions this mans sincerity and belief in our troops no matter what they say about their present situation is ridiculous. You have no moral high ground to stand on. You salivate at anything that may bring down someone who doesn't believe in what you believe. You preach tolerance when you don't practice it. May God truely save your soul because you never will.

I don't have a quote beucase some people are turely beyond them.

  380. loangunman Says:

Yes- I have listened since '94 and anyone who thinks he doesnt care about the military and individual soldiers simply is ignorant or has an agenda against him or the right. Don't embarrass yourself those of you who cast stones and live in glass houses.

  381. scottked Says:

I still can't seem to find the "before edited" version of Rush's transcript where he supposedly called all military personnel "Phoney" maybe either Ryan or Barfly can link to it for all of us.

  382. loangunman Says:

So witty- do you go to amateur night at the improv Bar Fly

  383. Davidknows Says:

Loangunman, the problem with conservatives is that you can't deal with the facts. What facts do you want? Limbaugh castigated drug users until he was revealed to be an addict? Limbaugh hung up on a man who claimed to be a Republican against the war because Republicans are not permitted to be against the war? Limbaugh has consistantly attacked military veterans who are against this war? American Conservative magazine in its new issue calls General Pet a Syncophant Savior and accuses him of being a tool of the White House? When General Schinsecki -- correctly -- disagreed with the neocon strategy of committing limited troops to Iraq he was fired? That in 1998 the neocon Project for the New American Century -- Cheney, Rumsfeld, Perle et al -- wrote that Hussein would be replaced if there is "A new Pearl Harbor?" Tell me, loangunman, want more facts. Please tell me -- factually -- where one of these statements is wrong.

  384. loangunman Says:

no they cant- cause them are hypocrites

  385. barfly Says:

"Listen to the show more then a day and you will know this man care about every soldier in the field."

What he cares about is market share, including the military. Anything he's done can be attributed to his desire to increase his own standing. And that includes donating money - to assure that he keeps his sweetheart broadcast deal with the military.

  386. zeeman1948 Says:

Wow! Reid and Harkin really showed a lot of guts by going on the Senate floor with this unwarrented attack on a private American citizen. Just another political stunt by a couple of career politicians who never held a real job in their lives. They should take up the challenge from Mr Limbaugh and make their slimey comments to his face! Dingy and Dung.....be men and make your comments in the public arena, not in the protection of your cozy clubhouse called the "Senate floor" You guys are "one sick human beings!"

  387. omahawi Says:

iowafalcon, Thank you. You truly show that when it comes down to it, it's not you or I. It's not Rush or Al Frankin. It's the person that we elected to act in a "professional" manner. To act with tack. We may not think the decision is great but half of diplomacy is treating the other side with some sort of respect even if you disagree. Unfortunately when the first stone is cast, duck and cover.

Hatred blinds people to the reality that stares them in the face.

  388. MaverickCoast Says:

Like the Left has ANY room to talk about Rush disrespecting the troops (of which Rush did NOT do). The Left has bashed the troops practically daily since this war began ALONG WITH leaders ON THE LEFT!

Do you recall what John Murtha has said, just to name one? For someone who is an ex-military man and who's brothers and sisters are out there fighting, he should be ashamed of himself!!!! Dick Durbin is another who was way out of line by his comments directed at the military. It is people like them, from the Left, that is making this war harder to win by giving COMFORT AND AID to the enemy.

If you have ever listened to Rush, you would know that he has respect for every man and woman serving our country. This is just your weak attempt to spread propaganda when you have NOTHING substantive to contribute.

I really liked Harry Reid OF ALL PEOPLE criticizing Rush for his anti-military comment(s). LOL!

Is he getting Rush confused with his own Party?

  389. barfly Says:

"Wow! Reid and Harkin really showed a lot of guts by going on the Senate floor with this unwarrented attack on a private American citizen."

MoveOn is comprised of private American citizens as well. Your assertion is weak.

    But Rush isn't a private citizen - he's a media personality.

  390. roboright Says:

What does a conservative magazine have to do with Rush and just how out of context are you taking it. Please quote or do you not have the balls to do so young man. I will wait for you to quote but you won't as you have no fact except for naming magazines and no quotes from within. You are a joke when it comes to being factual. Loangunman, the problem with conservatives is that you can’t deal with the facts. When General Schinsecki — correctly — disagreed with the neocon strategy of committing limited troops to Iraq he was fired? That in 1998 the neocon Project for the New American Century — Cheney, Rumsfeld, Perle et al — wrote that Hussein would be replaced if there is “A new Pearl Harbor?” Tell me, loangunman, want more facts. Unfortunately, I had to join this group in order to comment.

I'm a Vietnam Vet. We Vets have been fighting a non-stop battle against those we call "wannabes." They are those who falsely claim to have been in Vietnam, in whatever capacity they choose, usually claiming various unearned medals and ribbons. There are many of them out there still and we continue to "out" them as fast as we find them.

Each military group has their database of names of past members that they use to check on claims of authenticity. The SEALS know everyone who was a SEAL , as do the RANGERs and Special Forces. Many units know exactly who served and when they served.

Most VN Vets can listen to someone talking about being a Vet and most of the time pick up by the "Vet Speak" whether or not they had really been there.

I believe that the same can be said for the returning Vets of Iraq and Afghanistan. Fakes can be spotted, not always, and not usually by those who never went, but they can be found out.

This guy that Rush was talking about never even made it out of the country. He didn't finish "basic training", which is what it was called in the Army. The Marines and Navy have "boot camp."

I was drafted and knew of guys who were kicked out of Basic Training because they couldn't take it. Whether it was the discipline, the food, the stress, or homesickness, they never made it through. This "phoney soldier" is exactly what Rush was talking about.

I believe it was Kerry who spoke of atrocities that supposedly happened when he was in Vietnam that he really only picked up second-hand from others when he made his accusatory remarks about the military in Vietnam.

The account coming from this "phoney" sounds all to familiar and very similar to what Kerry falsely claimed.

We understand that it is a free man or women who propels our county with great ideas. Understand that our world is governed by the aggressive use of force. We use this force not to oppress or enslave, but to free and educate. We understand that to free others is to grant our security for not only our future but the worlds. We understand that others may not agree but we will allow them to speak. They are given that right by those who have served, are serving or have died for it. We understand that unfortunately some will never understand. We are all created equal and it's time to free everyone else and stop keeping this great toy called freedom to ourselves. LIMBAUGH: I -- it's not possible, intellectually, to follow these people.

CALLER 2: No, it's not, and what's really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.

    LIMBAUGH: The phony soldiers.

CALLER 2: The phony soldiers. If you talk to a real soldier, they are proud to serve. They want to be over in Iraq. They understand their sacrifice, and they're willing to sacrifice for their country.

LIMBAUGH: They joined to be in Iraq. They joined --

CALLER 2: A lot of them -- the new kids, yeah.

    LIMBAUGH: Well, you --

    [begin Limbaugh edit]

LIMBAUGH: -- know where you're going these days, the last four years, if you signed up. The odds are you're going there or Afghanistan or somewhere.

CALLER 2: Exactly, sir. And, and my other comment was -- and the reason I was calling for -- was to report to Jill about the fact that we didn't, didn't find any weapons of mass destruction. Actually, we have found weapons of mass destruction in chemical agents that [inaudible] been using against us for awhile now.

I've done two tours in Iraq. I just got back in June and there were many instances of -- since [inaudible] not know what they're using in their IEDs [improvised explosive devices]. They're using mustard artillery rounds. The VX artillery rounds in their IEDs.

Because they didn't know what they were using, they didn't do it right, and so it just kind of -- it, it didn't really hurt anybody but there are -- those munitions are over there, it's just -- it's a huge desert. If they've buried it somewhere, we're never gonna find it.

LIMBAUGH: Well, you know, that's a moot point for me right now --

    MIKE: Rush --

LIMBAUGH: -- the weapons of mass destruction. We gotta get beyond that. We're, we're there. What -- who cares if, if -- we all know they were there and, and Mahmoud [Ahmadinejad, Iranian president] even admitted it in one of his speeches here about -- talkin' about Saddam using the poison mustard gas or whatever it is on his own people -- but that, that's moot, right? What, what's more important is all this is taking place now in the midst of the surge working.

And all of these anti-war Democrats are getting even more hell-bent on pulling out of there, which means that success on the part of you and, and your colleagues over there is, is a great threat to them.

    [end Limbaugh edit]

LIMBAUGH: It's just, it's frustrating and maddening, and it is why they must be kept in the minority.

Look, I want to thank you, Mike, for calling. I appreciate it very much. I gotta -- let me see -- got something -- here is a "Morning Update" that we did recently talking about fake soldiers. This is a story of who the left props up as heroes. And they have their celebrities.

One of them was Jesse MacBeth. Now, he was a "corporal," I say in quotes -- 23 years old.

[reading from "Morning Update" (subscription required)]

What made Jesse MacBeth a hero to the anti-war crowd wasn't his Purple Heart. It wasn't his being affiliated with post traumatic stress disorder from tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, though. What made Jesse MacBeth, Army Ranger, a hero to the left was his courage in their view off the battlefield.

Without regard to consequences, he told the world the abuses he had witnessed in Iraq: American soldiers killing unarmed civilians, hundreds of men, women, even children. In one gruesome account translated into Arabic and spread widely across the internet, Army Ranger Jesse MacBeth describes the horrors this way:

'We would burn their bodies. We would hang their bodies from the rafters in the mosque.'

Now, recently, Jesse MacBeth, a poster boy for the anti-war left, had his day in court, and you know what? He was sentenced to five months in jail and three years probation for falsifying a Department of Veterans Affairs' claim and his Army discharge record.

He was in the Army. Jesse MacBeth was in the Army, folks, briefly -- 44-days before he washed out of boot camp. Jesse MacBeth isn't an Army Ranger. Never was. He isn't a corporal. Never was. He never won the Purple Heart and he was never in combat to witness the horrors he claimed to have seen."

You probably haven't even heard about this, and if you have, you haven't heard much about it. This doesn't fit the narrative and the template of the drive-by media and the Democrat [sic] Party as to who a genuine war hero is.

Don't look for any retractions, by the way, not from the anti-war left, the anti-military drive-by media or the Arabic websites that spread Jesse MacBeth's lies about our troops, because the truth of the left is fiction, is what serves their purpose. They have to lie about such atrocities 'cause they can't find any that fit the template of the way they see the U.S. military.

In other words, for the American anti-war left, the greatest inconvenience they face is the truth.

    [end audio clip]

But I happened to be listening to Rush that day, I often listen for laughs, he's a wonderful entertainer and I love listening to dittoheads regurgitate exactly what he says and then hear him congratulate them on how bright they are. Now, as for you, loangunman, he didn't simply hang up on a caller, he said he had never met a Republican who was against the war. A man called and said he was a Republican against the war. Rush told him he was wrong, ifg he was really a Republican he couldn't be against the war. And then he hung on him. That's a fact, that's about Rush's ability to deal with facts. As for dates and places, are you telling me Rush supported drug abusers? Deal with it, he's a hypocrite. He actually threatened his housekeeper that if she didn't committ a crime and get drugs for him he would fire her. As for Kerry lying, perhaps you didn't see the Nightline show in which a correspondent actually went to the village where the firefight took place and spoke to the Vietnamese who were there -- and confirmed it. Your problem is that you believe something is true because it fits your political belief. The fact that Kerry's entire crew -- minus one man who was fired from the crew -- supported him should tell you something about those smears. Yet you choose to believe smear merchants with absolutely no proof. Question to you, did you support Colin Powell when he appeared in front of the UN? Was he correct or incorrect? BLITZER: I want to get to some of the substance of domestic and international issues in a minute, but let's just wrap up a little bit of the politics right now.

Why should Democrats, looking at the Democratic nomination process, support you instead of Bill Bradley, a friend of yours, a former colleague in the Senate? What do you have to bring to this that he doesn't necessarily bring to this process?

ALGORE: Well, I will be offering -- I'll be offering my vision when my campaign begins. And it will be comprehensive and sweeping. And I hope that it will be compelling enough to draw people toward it. I feel that it will be.

But it will emerge from my dialogue with the American people. I've traveled to every part of this country during the last six years. During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.

    HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the liberal hacks at Salon.com:

"Next came the media feeding frenzy. On 11 March (2000), Wired News was the first to report Gore's remarks. Hundreds of articles were quick to appear, many drawing the inevitable comparisons to Gore's other gaffes.

A Washington Times columnist remembered that Gore took credit for inspiring the tough-guy hero in Erich Segal's novel Love Story. Segal denied it, saying that Gore's Harvard roommate, actor Tommy Lee Jones, was the role model.

It didn't help that soon afterward, Gore described himself as a boots-and-overalls hog farmer who, as a youth, was taught by his father how to muck out stalls, clear land with an ax, and "plow a steep hillside with a team of mules." Well, not quite.

"Albert Gore actually grew up in the District of Columbia, the pampered, private-school-educated son of a veteran United States senator," the New York Post said in an editorial."

The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency started experimenting with ways to allow networked computers to link and communicate. It was called The Internetting project and the ultimate system became known as The Internet.

We've never found any explanation by Gore as to why he made the claim, but he did have a sense of humor about it. At a meeting of Democratic leaders, he said, " I was pretty tired when I made that comment because I had been up very late the night before inventing the camcorder."

The internet is the public incarnation of the Darpa-Net you refer to. Before the 'initiative' that Al Gore and a couple of other politicians took to create the public entity known as the Internet, Darpanet was just a government accessible entity.

Your smear is typical, and dishonest, as is this post. The internet was not created in the 1970s, although much of the underlying technology was. The internet is a specific incarnation of that technology, but I'm not surprised that you would misuse and abuse the terms to fit your propaganda. Just another swiftboat, from another dishonest conservative.

In the late 1980s, Gore introduced the Gore Bill, which was later passed as the High Performance Computing and Communication Act of 1991. The bill was one of the most important pieces of legislation directly affecting the expansion of the internet.

We need to move on and do whatever possible to make it EASIER for our troops to WIN this war. The Left is only making it harder. WHAT PART OF THIS DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND? It's time to do what Americans used to do ON BOTH SIDES OF ISLE and come together during a time of war. I guess you guys really don't care, though, do you? You'll do anything to take down Bush.

As far as I'm concerned, Hussein's violations of at least 17 articles of the cease fire agreement, justified action against him. Also, he ACTED like he was hiding something by not allowing the inspectors to have total access to defined areas. Don't you think that kind of threw up a few "red flags" and said he is hiding something? Why he not allow the inspectors in if he weren't hiding something?

At the beginning of the war EVEN DEMOCRATS were saying the same thing Bush did after they looked at the same evidence Bush did! Not only that, their had been certain Democrats even before Bush warning about the grave threat Hussein presented to the region and the world.

The Left has made this war political at the expense of this Country and the men and women who have died for itand are still serving. Groups such as Move On.org and Media Matters are JUST AS MUCH ENEMIES TO THIS COUNTRY as are foreign enemies abroad. They attack the great institutions of this Country, with their perverted ideals and beliefs. Soros is the one of the most dangerous men today, engaged in changing the landscape of every American's life.

Just look at the special interest groups that associate themselves with the Left. Groups that represent everything America is NOT. Ideals that were never a part of America's greatness! Don't you notice that the Left NEVER have anything good to say about this Country. They always want to blame the world's problems on the U.S.! That's why I'm a Conservative! BECAUSE I BELIEVE IN THE GREATNESS OF THIS COUNTRY AND THE FOUNDATION IT WAS BUILT ON. It's not always perfect, but it's the best the world has to offer.

Let me leave you with a Chinese proverb that I believe sums up Conservatism quite brilliantly......

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime!

  493. Davidknows Says:

    MaverickCoast,
I'm pleased that you've made a reasonable argument without resorting to name calling, although I disagree completely with that argument. In 1998 a conservative think tank called the Project for the New American Century, among the members Cheney, Rumsfeld, Richard Perle, Kristol, outlined what they believed our foreign policy should be for the next century. It began with deposing Saddam Hussein. They understood this would be an evolutionary process rather than a revolutionary process unless -- and these are their words -- "There is a new Pearl Harbor." Well, they got their Pearl Harbor on 9/11 and for the first time in our history we became an aggressor nation. That's why we attacked Iraq, everything you mentioned was part an elaborate deception to convince this nation that we were threatened by Iraq. That was simply not true.

As someone who loves what this country was built to stand for, I abhor seeing the values for which we have fought disgraced by the actions of this government. You seem to be saying it is the duty of every citizen to support the army when it is in the field. Come together to defeat the enemy. If you lived in Germany in 1938 would you write the same words?
How about North Vietnam in 1965, same words? Come together to fight the enemy in the name of patriotism? For the first time in our history we are torturing prisoners, does that make you proud? For the first time in our history we are gathering up large groups of non-combatants and throwing them in prison without any rights -- including American citizens. Does that make you proud?

This war is no longer winable. If it was going to be won it would have been done immediately after the attack, when the Bush adminitsration ignored all the planning that had been done and invaded with too few troops. What's going on now is a civil war and all we are is cannon fodder. If we leave tomorrow they're going to fight each other. If we leave in 10 years they're going to fight each other. Our presence makes no difference; if anything it makes the situation worse. So please don't lecture me about being a good American unless you'll agree that the Germans were correct in being good Germans.

  494. MaverickCoast Says:

That would be hard, since the Interstate Highway System already existed as a funded public entity when he entered Congress, but Al Gore wrote the bill that funded and created the Internet.

Then again, you guys are prone to lies, distortion and deception - thanks for posting yet another republican example of this.

For the Record, Eisenhower could probably have made that claim, but not the loser Dick.

This quote is how we know you're a complete loon. Not only is it a 'fake' quote of Lincoln, it's a fake quote created by J. Michael Waller, a conservative scholar (cough). Yet another example of the sort of intellectual dishonesty that eats at the core of Republican values.

You're a bunch of hateful, zealot lunatics. And your only hope in 2008 is the military coup d'etat that you and fellow loons like you salivate over. You are a traitor to all values American. As are your american hating anti-democratic fellow wingnuts.

If you lived in Germany in 1938 would you write the same words?

Are you seriously comparing our actions to that of Hitler's? I won't dignify that question with an answer.

For the first time in our history we are torturing prisoners, does
    that make you proud?

Answer this scenario: If you had a prisoner in custody that knew
where a nuke was planted in an American city and which was
about to detonate, would you do whatever is necesary to get the
prisoner to tell you where the nuke is? You may think that is a
irrelevant question, but it is something to think about when asking your question!

This war is no longer winable

I'm glad you weren't a Commander in WWII and other wars. Do I
need to remind you of the casualties we suffered in wars of the
past? D-Day alone is enough to make your head spin. Don't you think there were a few that said 'this war is not winnable'? There are native people in the Middle East who are beginning to see that they don't have to live in terror and they CAN do something about it. They realize that we AREN'T the enemy and that we are there to help them govern as a people and not be governed by a dictator.

If it was going to be won it would have been done immediately after
    the attack,

Anyone that knows anything about this war against terror have
ALWAYS SAID THE WAR AGAINST TERROR IS GOING TO BE A
    LONG ONE
! One like we have never seen. Anyone who doesn't understand that just doesn't get it! We can't give up. DO YOU WANT TO START ALL OVER AGAIN later after the terrorists have
regrouped and rearmed with MORE POWERFUL weapons and do you want to wait until we've been attacked again. WE HAVE KILLED SOME MAJOR PLAYERS in terrorism in this fight.

What’s going on now is a civil war

There is no civil war going on. Violence is down. The surge is taking hold. Even the news is reporting this, as much as they hate to.

Our presence makes no difference; if anything it makes the
    situation worse

Why? Our presence will bring stability to the region. We have a presence in many parts of the world.

So please don’t lecture me about being a good American unless
you’ll agree that the Germans were correct in being good
    Germans.

Please don't compare our actions to that of Nazis Germany or I'll have to write you off as a certified idiot.
