Australia, a loyal ally in President Bush’s war in Iraq, suggested today that it would not follow the U.S. in potentially using military force against Iran. “The American position is that they just don’t rule in or rule out the military option,” said Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer. “[W]e are not planning to get involved in any military action against anybody.”
I guess loyalty only goes so far...even Australia has a threshold for stupid foreign policy decisions.

Well stated Bruce.
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:03 pmTranslation: Our dollar is already up to 0.89 US, so you go right ahead and invade, mate. That should get our dollar up to parity with yours. Have fun as the newest member of the third world.
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:03 pmThat's ok.
Pres. Bush can always count on Tonga, Macedonia, or Albania.
One mighty "coalition", indeed.
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:03 pmThe Australians followed the Pied Piper Chimpy blindly into Iraq.
It would seem that they've finally learned a hard lesson.
"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me--can't get fooled again."
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:04 pmNow even Australia is separating themselves from this country and it's amoral foreign policy. No doubt that Bush has become "the uniter" - he's united every country in the world against us!
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:04 pmHi Tripmaster! Shame on us, that's for sure. And as far as Lieberman is concerned who drafted not just one (Iraq) but two war-enabling amendments, this adage applies: "There's no fool like an old fool". Lieberman's political journey is OVER.
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:06 pmGreg: That would be a "mighty coalition" of about three people then?
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:07 pmPres. Bush can always count on Tonga, Macedonia, or Albania.

Don't forget Poland!
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:07 pmLooks like Australia is only willing to follow Bush down the rabbit hole so far. I suppose referring to them as Austrians didn't help.
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:10 pmGee, I guess Rupert Murdoch is gonna have to go buy up some Australian media outlets to pitch his propaganda.

That would be four, if you include the US.
tsk, tsk.... belittling the coalition so early in the morning already?
/sarcasm off
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:13 pmWell stated Bruce.

Agreed, Bruce!
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:13 pmWhy do the "Austrians" hate our soldiers?
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:15 pmDoes anyone have any info on protests regarding our war march on Iran? Just curious if we're going to sit idly by and watch or if any action -even meaningless marches - will be taken. Sadly I don't know of any other ways to let our government know we are against this. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

As if it'd make a difference?
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:28 pmDo ya think "we" will get the message? Or will Cheney-Podhoretz still plunge like moths into the flame dragging our sorry [euphemism alert] carcasses with them?
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:30 pmOff topic, but there isn't much talk of Blackwater. The Prince family and their operation is one of the most disturbing trends of the Republican "base" and the "privatization" of our "defense" community. The Prince family endorsed the violent overthrow of the Clinton administration and are now on the public dole, well the public millionaire dole.
Read "Blackwater" by Jeremy Scahill, scary stuff, coming to a city near you soon, in black fatigues without name tags or identification, or oversight of any kind.
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:35 pmThey must have run out of beer in Aussie Land. They are begining to make sense

October 2nd, 2007 at 1:49 pmJohn Howard who has been in power in Australia for over 11 years will face a tough elections on Nov.24th this year...Iraq war is crucial in this election. He is predicted to face a humiliating defeat...
October 2nd, 2007 at 2:05 pmHe is trying to pull to the middle lately, but time is running out for him.

And don't you dare mention 'Freedom fries". !
No worries the White House will release some lies and the GOP will spin with the Media helping. Americans will still believe the White House on what ever it says.
No problem here the truth is not necessary Americans
have continued to believe the lies from the White House from day one even when the truth was put in their faces. The Media does the spin to cover up the crimes and Katie out right lies to you face.
Bush got away with illegally invading Iraq so before he leaves he'll bomb Iran. Look even Israel used their bombs that the US gave them to test bombing Syria.
October 2nd, 2007 at 6:11 pmYes the White House failed a pushing Iran so Israel and US put their heads together and thought up bombing Syria in hopes that they could start WW3.
Israel is in this for the land all of the Middle East land and the US aka Cheney is in it for the oil.
Notice if you read the bible this wasn't God's plan so now you know why it's all falling apart.
So how long before Bush invades Melbourne?
October 2nd, 2007 at 6:30 pmMore than 70% of Australians no longer support the US and Australian action in Iraq. Some 50% no longer support military action in Afghanistan.
Joining the US in military action on Iran would be political suicide - we are only weeks out from an election.
'Australia's Next Prime Minister' Kevin Rudd still intends to withdraw combat forces from Iraq in 2008 and has stated repeatedly that only a diplomatic solution is viable when it comes to Iran.
More On All That Here.
