In his new book, My Grandfather’s Son, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas writes that he had grown up in the South fearing the Ku Klux Klan’s lynch mobs, but that in the end, liberals were more ferocious:
I’d grown up fearing the lynch mobs of the Ku Klux Klan; as an adult, I was starting to wonder if I’d been afraid of the wrong white people all along. My worst fears had come to pass not in Georgia, but in Washington, D.C., where I was being pursued not by bigots in white robes, but by left-wing zealots draped in flowing sanctimony.
Last night on Fox News, host Sean Hannity asked Thomas about these “left-wing zealots” and charged that all the Justice’s critics are “racist.” Watch it:
Thomas never disagrees with Hannity. He simply says he hasn’t been able to figure out any other reason people are criticizing and “trying to destroy” him. The opposition to Thomas isn’t based on the color of his skin, but on his radical conservative ideologies.
Transcript:
HANNITY: When your father threw you out of the house, the first place you went to work, they had Ku Klux Klan written on the bathroom stalls.
THOMAS: But those people — but remember what I also said, they sat along the edges and never said a word.
HANNITY: But to say — but to have that background and to live through that experience, and then say, I grew up fearing the lynch mobs of the Klan as an adult, I was starting to wonder if I’d been afraid the wrong people all along, in describing those that systematically went about destroying you. And you listed one — Confederate flag issues, financial issues, they were looking to take you down.
THOMAS: To destroy. But see…
HANNITY: To destroy you.
THOMAS: … what you contrast that with, the people that we would all sneer at who sat along the edges of the bathroom at the Union camp (ph) who did nothing, never said a word.
HANNITY: Right.
THOMAS: Never tried to harm me or any — I’m not saying they — I’m not defending them. But I’m just simply saying that they were the people that we would all just simply say, These are racists. But what of the people who were trying to destroy me?
HANNITY: Yes.
THOMAS: That’s the point that I was trying to make with that paragraph, what are they?
HANNITY: They’re racist.
THOMAS: Well, I mean, so if you say, for example, that people shouldn’t say that, you know, I’m sitting there thinking about this, Why are they doing this?
The friggin race card being played when the idiot card trumps it.
October 3rd, 2007 at 12:55 pmHannity is once again picking the short hairs off the Coke can of America.
October 3rd, 2007 at 12:57 pmMore koolaid for the base. Fine by me. I expect the Democratic presidential candidate to garner, oh, say 95% of the black vote.
October 3rd, 2007 at 12:57 pmThomas is unstable.

Race card. How surprising.

It must be tough being the only black person in America.
October 3rd, 2007 at 12:59 pmWhat the F? Ok, sexual harassment guy, let’s put you in a Coral with White Racist KKK guys (republicans) on one side and some Liberal open minded guys (Democrates) on the other, which side are you gonna stand with? Thought so. So in other words you don’t like being questioned on your judgements is what you are really saying, rapist.

October 3rd, 2007 at 1:02 pmSean Hannity never met a Republican black man he didn’t like.

Did Hannity drop down and blow Thomas right there and then?

October 3rd, 2007 at 1:08 pmThomas can’t even hold his own against a hack talking head, how can he be remotely qualified to be a Supreme Court Justice?
He got his position because of his race, and because he was able to toadie up the the powers that selected him as their token minority.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:09 pmHannity ignored one important point – Clarence Thomas is not black. He might be the whitest man in America.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:09 pmGood God.
Who ARE these people???? What planet are they from???
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:10 pmThe man seems to be demonstrating some of the signs of early Alzheimers: fixating on events of nearly 20 years and longer ago; carrying anger at one aspect towards all others; misconstruing contexts within the same sentences. I am actually curious as to whom it was that ghost wrote his book???

Not ture Hankkity Hank Honk Hannity; Clarence Thomas is just one of two guilty as hell black men walking the streets – O.J. is the other.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:14 pmYou hate seeing a minority who resents not being born white.
the same pyschology afflicts michelle malkin.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:18 pmClarence Thomas is not afraid of the KKK because the KKK would welcome him with open arms. Thomas epitomizes everything they are about.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:20 pmThomas is not only playing the race card, he’s a typical Republican victim. “They’re out to get me!” and whoever is out to “get” him is obviously a racist because they couldn’t just think he’s a right wing fanatic with poor reasoning powers.
This is much like last night’s thread in which the “conservatives” claimed that the wounded soldier in the VoteVets ad was a “victim” of the Left because he was too brain-dead to be furious on his own about a legitimate grievance.
And the “conservatives” are always the first to claim that the Left is a culture of victimology (as exemplified by the continuous libel from Ann Coulter).

Why would any sane person go to Ann Coulter to make a point? This is hysterically funny material… oh ,wait, Ann is SERIOUS… my bad…
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:22 pmThe overwhelming criticism of Judge Thomas has absolutely nothing to do with color although Sean Hannity would spin it to be so. What this has to do with is his closed-minded, lockstep reichwing ideologies. It’s amazing to me that those who have been the target of injustice (Thomas’ reference to fear of the Klan) are precisely the very ones who, when given power, turn into the biggest bigots on the planet. Amazing that they don’t realize that “they’ve become ‘them’”.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:25 pmi remember watching the little quisling during his confirmation hearing. He hasn’t changed a bit.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:25 pmJohnny Swank: And what does the right do, pray tell? They smear anyone (and blackmail) anyone who comes forward with the Truth because they fear truth.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:26 pmThomas needs to stick with pubic hairs in soda cans I think and leave the world of law to someone who can handle it.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:27 pmAs far as I can see (and I’m Independent) the right is associated with spin and lies, deceit and corruption; the Left is outing them and want the truth. It’s a pretty obvious assessment for anyone with an open mind to make. Check your facts, Johnny Wanker.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:28 pmNot something you’d easily recognize, Michael.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:29 pm# 26 – You hate seeing a minority who resents not being born white.

Too true. BTW, another example, our good brother Daryll is black and he is always slamming minorities.
Clarence is an idiot, a rubber stamp for Scalia. He doesn’t write or even have an opinion. However Scalia votes, multiply it by two for Clarence.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:30 pmWhen you’ve got nothing else left, play the race card. Ah, so predictable, Sean.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:30 pmnanlichi: Agreed. Thomas doesn’t have much intelligence and allows Scalia to lead him around like a puppy dog. Very sad. Again, he should stick to pubic hairs in soda cans – that was his greatest claim to fame.

October 3rd, 2007 at 1:32 pmI beg your pardon, I think the right-wing zealots are wrapped in flowing sanctimony and hypocrisy and bigotry and intolerance.

October 3rd, 2007 at 1:35 pmAnd we know why the fake television network is the ONLY one to provide a platform for this empty individual – because no one else gives a rip about him, what he believes, says or does. He’s a national joke.

I guarantee the day is coming that we will see term limits in the Judiciary. Hope it starts with the Supreme Court.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:39 pmEveryone must realize after this last eight years Republican agendas are being pursued by zealots like Thomas in the lands highest court. I say give them 10 years and that is it. Bush – by stealing the 2000 & 2004 elections has packed the court with the worst kind of pond scum right wingers – worse there confirmation hearing testimonies were full of lies. Very serious consequences for our Democracy. Watch the courst decisions in the coming years because it will bring on this movement for term limits without doubt.
The right wing retards seem to be attacking everyone and everything lately.I smell desperation. It must be heartbreaking to wake up from the kool-aid years and realize your party is based on hate on cowardice.Republican ideology is as popular as genital herpes.

October 3rd, 2007 at 1:45 pmSo the closeted justice finally opens his big mouth. And fear spews forth. Washington was just too big for Clarence. And so was Annita Hill. And he has never gotten over being rejected by either.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:48 pmCalm down my friends there’s a good reason for Thomas’s anger and insanity. He sees dead people mainly his grandfather and mother. Yes Clarence like Judas sold out his people of the equal rights to woman for the money/position Satan offered. The man is in pain and his pass is haunting him. He made promises he didn’t keep he got a job he wasn’t qualified for. Notice he writes no opinion because he’s still learning on the job and the other Justices know it. His biggest fear is how will he explain this to God if the African Americans don’t believe his excuse. He knows he’ll never see his Grandfather or Mother again because he will not be going to heaven. Clarence is living in hell on earth right now and his guilty is eating him up inside. No one can help his and he might just lose his mine soon. Clarence knows he has to vote to remove the Civil Rights, Woman’s Rights and Voting Rights Bill. Clarence knows he will be asked to resign with the GOP story to spend time with his family. Look Gonzales was used for the Spanish vote, Clarence was used for the Black vote. Now that the Republicans have the ducks in order these two minorities aren’t needed anymore. When Justice Thomas leave the Supreme Court he is a man without a country or a race. He might want to get Connie Rice’s number I know Powell wouldn’t give him his.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:48 pmIs he ill? He looks like the Danny Glover character Albert in The Color Purple after Whoopi/Celie left him. “Until you do right by me, everything you even think about gonna fail!”

Summary: On The Big Story, discussing Rush Limbaugh’s recent “phony soldiers” comments, Jonah Goldberg asserted: “I’ve never heard actually a conservative basically flat-out deny the patriotism of the opposition.” In fact, Limbaugh himself has done so. For instance, on his August 23, 2005, radio show, Limbaugh said, “It’s time for somebody to tell the people on the left, you’re damn right we’re questioning your patriotism.”

Why didn’t the top 4 Republican candidates appear at Morgan State debate? Why the macaca remarks? Why did Imus say what he did? Why did Oreilly make disparaging remarks in a black restaurant?
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:54 pmAbout the only thing I find interesting about this story is how it’s a continuation of these paranoid claims of “victimhood” by the righties. BillO being victimized by Media Matters; Rush being victimized by veterans; and now Clarence being victimized by white liberals. I thought the right hated “victims.”

If it is obvious that harassment based on race, sex, religion, sexual orientation, disability, etc. is wrong, then why is harassment based on socio-political-economic idiology OK?
Dems accept diversity of every stripe except for socio-political-economic ideology, and savagely attack those who hold different values / beliefs from themselves.
October 3rd, 2007 at 2:02 pmIf the conservatives are so racist, why did they appoint Thomas to the supreme court? And while we’re at it, what about Powell and Rice as Secretary of State?
Let’s tally the score card here,
On the positive side, Republicans have benefited:
- Thomas
- Powell (I’m no so sure about this one)
- Rice
- Allen Keyes
On the negative side, Republicans have harmed:
October 3rd, 2007 at 2:03 pm- The entire city of New Orleans
The Reichwing is chock full of sick and self-loathing closeted homosexuals, pedophiles, twisted religious freaks, sadists and predjudiced minorities.
They are frighteningly pathological in their hatred of everyone and everything and their desire for death and destruction.
October 3rd, 2007 at 2:04 pmEvidently, conservatives feel Thomas is above criticism because he’s an African American. And they accuse people who criticize him of being racists. Classic, backward, crazy conservative thinking.
Johnny Swank, is it a coincidence that you’re “tired of both sides” at a time when your side is going down the tubes. Give me a break, you phony.
Michael, you have shown over and over around here that it is useless to argue with you. You’re obtuse and absurd, and when someone presents an argument you can’t deal with, you simply ignore it. I suggest we don’t play with you. If you’d like to construe that as being unable to argue with your razor-like wit and indisputable logic, go ahead. Have a nice day.
October 3rd, 2007 at 2:08 pmJohnny Swank: “Why did Bill Clinton go to a black church after he got caught with Monica.”
Probably because he felt more comfortable there. And, of course, it wasn’t the first time he’d been in one. He grew up going to a “black church” in Arkansas.
October 3rd, 2007 at 2:09 pmWhy did Bill Clinton go to a black church after he got caught with Monica?
What’s your point? Other than the one on your dunce cap.
October 3rd, 2007 at 2:09 pmAs a jurist, Thomas is a disgrace to the jurisprudence system.
Trolls, name me ONE opinion he has written that is a standard for law school students to examine.
His only claim to fame is that he silently goes along with the reichwing brethren who carry his sorry ass along.
October 3rd, 2007 at 2:11 pmSo funny that you attempt character assasination on a Supreme Court Judge. Do you think it will accomplish anything? He stays their for life if he wants BTW.
October 3rd, 2007 at 2:15 pmInstead, why not provide proof of Justice Thomas’ ineptitude?
Agreed. According to Thomas’s view, states are not prohibited from establishing a religion (Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow). Our forefathers would be aghast. Additionally, Thomas doesn’t believe in stare decisis (i.e., legal precedent). Every justice who has ever sat on the Supreme Court would be aghast.
October 3rd, 2007 at 2:19 pmIf the conservatives are so racist, why did they appoint Thomas to the supreme court? And while we’re at it, what about Powell and Rice as Secretary of State?
Comment by CaptainMantastic
Thomas: Surely not the most capable jurist in the land, cartainly not a fit replacement for Thurgood Marshall. Thomas had served only 2 years as a federal judge. A purely calculated nomination by Bush Sr. Not only didn’t have the experience, he wasn’t the smartest guy either. And that’s been his greatest fear – that people would discover he was in over his head and out of his league.
Powell: They marginalized him and then sent him packing as soon as he expressed doubts about doing more of their dirty work.
Rice: Also marginalized. She looks great in a photo op, but she’s been cut out of the picture and knows it. She and Cheney barely speak. She spends her weekends at Camp David, working jigsaw puzzles with the president and watching football. A faithful companion.
October 3rd, 2007 at 2:19 pmThomas/Scalia etc.. speaking on FOX. What happened to the days when the Justices remained silent in public? This only proves that the court is totally biased.
Can you imagine Ruth Ginsburg or any of the Democrat appointed Justices sitting down for a “chat” with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC? – the RIGHT WOULD GO BONKERS!
Why is America tolerating this from Republican appointed Justices? Unreal!
The Supreme Court is and always been political. America just needs to real to come to grips with that and call for TERM LIMITS in the Judiciary.

It appears the Republicans are all about image.
October 3rd, 2007 at 2:32 pmThomas is an intellectual lightweight, but a reliable Republican vote. An insulting choice to replace Thurgood Marshall on the SC. Thomas, who personally benefited from the Democratic policies in the 60s on race and education, has walked away from that debt and personally enriched himself while selling out African-Americans and the middle-class. He provides convenient cover for the white, rich man’s club to hide behind. Even Scalia thinks he’s a useless joke on SCOTUS. The ultimate joke’s on him, though. When he’s no longer SCOTUS, his use to the RNC is finished. He’ll be quickly forgotten by everyone.

I’ve wondered the same thing, it may be he has wheeled himself out to try and claim some relevance.
His brooding lethargy has become noticed, and commented upon, as of late.
Relevance other than sitting like a bump on a log and simply following his masters instructions.
Thomas played the race card at his hearing on his confirmation to throw a smoke screen up over his perverse behavior and he still is. Roberts is a racist, sexist, weasel and Hannity is an enabler. The one is as bad as the other.

Of course, if any of you liberals wish to prove me wrong, name an oppinion , written by Justice Thomas, and explain why it bears the hallmarks of an inferior mind. I won’t hold my breath. After all, that would mean that you actually decided to deal in facts and objective truth instead of the fantasy world that you have concocted for yourselves.

October 3rd, 2007 at 4:48 pmReply to #63: I will tell you what an African American thinks about your points. What you said isn’t really true because they so called blacks appointed in Republican administration are there with the exception of Gen. Powell, because they are against blacks, which makes them acceptable to white racist conservatives. Yes, Clarence Thomas might as well be in the KKK, the way he trys to explain who they never said a word to him. And you they weren’t in his neighborhood. Just the fact that they were there should have been enough for him to get the message. It should have been obvious to young Clarence that he’d better not attend any parties they might invite him to that are held at night in the middle of nowhere.
Come on guy, I’m a veteran who served 11 years in the United States Army and was ran off the road by Klansmen at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in 1982. They did this for no other reason than the color of my skin and hate. Unlike Clarence I didn’t welcome there presence on a military installation which I was stationed on. But I didn’t do anything except drive by them and they started pursuing me at a high rate of speed and attempted to kill me.
People like Clarence Thomas are self hating blacks to use race to their advantage and them say they oppose affirmative action. If you recall he used the term, “High tech lynching” to described the Senators who questioned him. Once on the Court he then systematically began tearing down the gains that Blacks fought and died for. I’ve only seen two Black Republican officials that I trust at all. Those two being Gen. Powell, whom I served under in Germany for 3 years and former Maryland Lt. Gov. Steel. I admire them because they didn’t use race to get a high position and then say they think affirmative action hurts whites.
As a veteran and man of honor who loves his Country I have to call Clarence Thomas what he is. That is a gold digging Uncle Tom who will sell out his own people for power. May God forgive him for what he’s done. I can’t see how he can sleep at night. Oh and by the way, I’m not for affirmative action, I’m for equal treatment of all Americans regardless of skin pigment. But my friend that day hasn’t happened in America yet, but it’s coming when whites become the minority.
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:05 pmreally should read the whole piece, but this is good:
Clarence Thomas and Rupert Murdoch
[...]
The publication facts behind Thomas’s book ought to be discussed by all the candidates: he received an advance of $1.5 million in 2003 from HarperCollins, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch. If you thought the Court dealt with any issues of relevance to Murdoch, you might call it a conflict of interest for Thomas to accept that payment–far more than any sitting justice ever received from any single source. At least you might mention the fabled “appearance of impropriety.” You might call the $1.5 million a thank-you gift from Murdoch for services rendered. You might even wonder if it might be a subtle suggestion to other justices who will be ruling on Murdoch-related issues in the future.
Of course Thomas could avoid that “appearance of impropriety” by recusing himself for the rest of his career from any case raising issues concerning Murdoch, Fox, the First Amendment, copyright law, libel, or any other issues in media or communications law. That would give him a lot of time off.

Imagine that! Another WATB engaging in the RW’s favourite pastime of ‘victimhood’. “Maaaaaahhhhh!!!! Theyyyyy’rrrreeee pickingggggg on meeeeeeee…..”

October 3rd, 2007 at 5:10 pmGodfather2, you dumb c*nt. You can’t point to an opinion by Clarence because as has been pointed out, the POS hasn’t written any. As far as anyone knows, he may not even have one. He just puts his tongue in Scalia’s ass and says “me too.”
It has nothing to do with being rascist. I think you are an ignorant f*ck, and I don’t even know what race you are. If I offended your mother, white, brown, black or red, and your father, Labrador, Cocker Spaniel, German Shorthair…whatever, it has nothing to do with race.
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:11 pmNote that they cannot name an oppinion to substantiate this charge.
See #87: According to Thomas, states are not prohibited from establishing a religion (Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow). Our forefathers would be aghast. Additionally, Thomas doesn’t believe in stare decisis (i.e., legal precedent). Every justice who has ever sat on the Supreme Court would be aghast.
If your criticism of Thomas is his lack of regard for Stare decisis, then you must be terribly upset that Plessy V. Fergessun was overturned.
Why? The Court has often overruled its earlier decisions — 130 times between 1946 and 1992. But according to Scalia, Clarence Thomas “doesn’t believe in stare decisis, period.”
PS: It’s “Ferguson” not “Fergessun,” you ignorant blowhard.
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:20 pmWhat gives you folks the idea Thomas has written no opinions while on the Supreme Court?
Here’s one (in defense of carrying guns in school zones) in which he endorses undoing 60 years of legal rulings concerning the Commerce Clause. The case is United States v. Lopez.
His opinion suggesting that the States may endorse religion occurs in this opinion for Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow.
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:31 pmI am wrong, thanks for pointing it out Godfather2 and koko. Clarence has written opinions and he doesn’t always have his tongue in Scalia’s ass. My bad.
But, but, but…. Godfather2’s logic that because liberals don’t like Clarence’s opinions and Clarence is also black, therefore liberals are racist is bs.
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:47 pmGodfather2’s logic [...] is bs.
Totally.
And for Clarence Thomas (and Godfather2) to play the race card is despicable. But it saves them from having to engage in honest, rational discourse.
Moreover, in his opinions, Clarence Thomas is not only out of step with the vast majority of the judicial establishment, he is out of step with the vast majority of Americans. He is out of his depth.
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:54 pmIts a big world and just because you encountered Klansmen in North Carolina doesn’t mean that Republican Party is composed entirely of self hating blacks and white supremecists.
Just consider the possibility.
Comment by Godfather2
GF – the Republican party is absolutely NOT composed entirely of ’self hating blacks and white supremacists’.
You forgot the pedophiles, the warmongering chickenhawks, the gay bashers, the bigots, the religious zealots, the bullies and the corrupt thugs.
Hmmm. Have I forgotten anyone…?
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:14 pmAnd I’m sure Norway and Sweden are absolutely MISERABLE places where self immolation flourishes.
Good grief.
GF – you’re a posturing apologist idiot, so just …shut …up.
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:20 pmI’m not playing the race card.
When you suggest that all criticism of Clarence Thomas must be a response to his skin color — that’s playing the race card.
I won’t bother replying to the rest of your post, which is merely regurgitated talk-radio pablum.
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:22 pmNanlichi,
If you are not racists (meaning liberals), then why is the only justice that is routinely criticized as being intellectually inferior is also the only black justice?
Godfather2,
We can and will disagree on the mental capacity of Clarence Thomas, but just on the fine point of whether that disagreement means we are racist is logically faulty. We disagree with Thomas because of his ideology, and would have the same position whether he was white, brown, red or Labrador. The color of his skin is totally irrelevant. And I think you know that.
There is one black person in my group, and he is head and shoulders above the rest of us. He works for me but I can’t hold a candle to him. Does that mean I think blacks are superior to my German/English ancestors? No.
And before someone rants about the fact that he works for me, it’s because I am an old fart and he isn’t. I may very well work for him before I retire. That’s ok too.
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:42 pmThomas doesn’t write opinions. He hires (only!) Federalist Society clerks to do that stuff for him (and they obligingly churn out the FedSoc party line).
On C-SPAN a couple years back, he appeared with a bunch of school kids, and one asked him what the rationale was for one of the landmark cases of the prior term (to which he’d signed on), B.S.A. v. Dale. The distinguished jurist replied that that was last term, and he didn’t remember … maybe like he didn’t remember any discussion about Roe v. Wade….
Cheers,
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:50 pmAh, the Conservatives playing the race card, while wankers like Hendler whine about people playing the race card. How typically republican and hypocritical.
October 3rd, 2007 at 7:10 pmReply to Godfather II: My friend I agree that Justice Thomas is an intelligent individual. But his problem is the “Race Card”, he played it to get onto the Court and then he became a “Yes Man”, for Justice Scalia and the conservatives who use him to bash other African Americans. He’s at best a fool and at worst an “Uncle Tom”, who doesn’t understand that his job is for life and he doesn’t have to make the coffee, carry the water, step and fetch for anyone. Any so called intelligent person doesn’t believe something so much that he or she can’t think for himself.
If Just Us Thomas really was the great person who cares about people, then he wouldn’t do everything he possibly can to hurt African Americans. This guy used that Sh*t eating grin of his too say, “Yeesss Suurrrr Bosssssss” to win favor with a bunch of Gay bashing, minority hating, women controlling, violating the constitution, breaking the law idiots who call themselves Republicans. Come on guy why would Shawn (Racist in the Closet) Hannity call Thomas’s enemies racist when he denies racism exists in America. When any black person other than Thomas who happens to disagree with Republicans like Jesse Jackson uses that term, Hannity claims it’s race baiting.
But I guess when you are questioning the greatest “Uncle Tom” or all, you can get away with it. Look at the clip again and watch how Thomas smiles broadly in an attempt to please Hannity. This reminds me of one of those old movies with the ignorant black man saying. “Yesss Surrr Bossss”. I mean come on, Thomas grew up at a time when blacks were protrayed as ignorant slow speaking idiots who could only say, “Yessss Surrrrr Bosssss”. So of course Hannity is going to play Thomas for all he’s worth to show that even he (Thomas) is an ignorant fool although he’s a Supreme Court Justice. And Thomas played the “Step and fetch” role to a “T”.
Lets get real if Thomas was a so called liberal, Hannity would be attacking him. It’s only because this man is such a fool that conservatives use him to do their bidding. He’s the perfect tool to get their racist message out. He says and does the things they wish they could do in public.
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:40 pmYou know Thomas doesn’t do himself any favors by never writing a court opinion and refusing to aks questions of litigants.
Doesn’t really seem that he is interested in the work, just the stature and following Scalia’s lead.
That he seems lazy as hell has nothing whatsoever to do with his skin color. It is his behavior.
Ask a question for God’s sakes!!

Hey, that’s my Uncle Thom.

October 4th, 2007 at 2:38 am>Please see the above link and find dissenting oppinions written by Justice >Thomas in the Kelo v. New London Conneticut case
right..the one where he uses the very “logical inference” argument that he and all others rightwing riechtard “strict constructionists” regularly deride liberals for using when they interpret the constitution. I applaud his reasoning in that case, simplistic though it may be. its certainly not profound, and yet, it arguably overshadowed by shortsighted, dictatorial dissents wherein he states that he would give this president, and all fututure presidents, the sole and unchalleneged ability to decide when we were at war, who we were at war with, and what they were guilty of.
heaven forbid, someday we have a president who isnt as painfully honest as george bush, because if we ever did, I could see a president abusing his alleged wartime powers and never being held accoutable because the war and everything about it is a “classified state secret”
> They never mention the fact that Stephen Breyer actually advocates the >use of foreign law when interpreting the US Constitution, a willfully >STUPID act if ever there was,
you DO know than a great deal of our legal jurisprudence is derived from English law, right? obviously , spouting all this legal mumbo jumbo, you must be a lawyer, like so many of the other trolls around here claim to be.
also…
you do know that the power the Constitution gives to congress to ratify foreign treaties implies that congress can in essence validate foreign laws and incorporate them into our own legal system if they agree with them, right? or is that drawing more of an inference than THomas did in the case you cited above.
> Clearly, you can’t provide evidence of poorly written oppinions by Justice >Thomas because they don’t exist.
Clearly! Smart people avoid using that word much. YOu know they don’t exist how?
Godfather, your patronizing rants seem strangely familar.. have you posted here under any other names?
October 4th, 2007 at 7:54 am>Bomb an aspirin factory,
an aspirin factory ALLEGEDLY linked to Al-Queda, correct?
I your hero dumbya said an aspirin factor was linked to al-queda, would you question his judgement? yes or no?
Why is it that when your hero Dumbya accuses someone or something of being involved in AL-Queda, you drop the qualifier “allegedly” and just assume his judgement is allegedly correct?
October 4th, 2007 at 7:56 amAs an African – American Female I resent Thomas.
October 4th, 2007 at 8:11 amBut no, you’re not racists. You can’t be. You’re liberal.
Classic straw-man garbage from your second-rate mind.
Nobody here said that; unfortunately, racism is endemic, to people of all political philosophies and skin hues. Most of my liberal friends recognize that; most of my conservative friends deny it.
October 4th, 2007 at 12:28 pmI heard with my own ears Hannity say that the civil rights movement owed its success to Republicans.
