Today, a bipartisan majority voted 404-11 to give government watchdogs “more autonomy and protection from political retribution.” President Bush has promised to veto the legislation, but the bill garnered significantly more support than the two-thirds majority needed to override a presidential veto.

Stand by for the signing statement.
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:38 pmNAY..NAY…NAY…You can’t catch me!!!
So, bush can’t strike his Rollie-Pollie “winnie the pool” (think-think-think) pen with his (X) mark!!
Now thats what I call making the right move, congress!
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:38 pmblogenfreude…
Oh, you know tomorrow or late in to the evening, he WILL do something, but remember Congress makes the laws! What ever that means!
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:40 pmcome on big guy put on your flight suit and veto this one … come on cod piece I dare you … no, I double dare you …
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:43 pmWell they put the watchdogs out and then tie the hands of the clerks who want to do the accounting. Why do they even bother with this garbage, trying to bark like a big dog?
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:45 pmIt’s is good to see such a strong bipartisan support for this. Honestly, that surprises me.
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:48 pm“…bill garnered significantly more support than the two-thirds majority needed to override a presidential…”
It may have support but when time comes to override the veto theys will all chicken out as usual; their reason - overriding the veto will kill more of our troops in Iraq.
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:50 pmBUSH, you are one goddamn stupid motherfu*ker…. nothing but bullsh*t politics for this lame duck.
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:53 pmI welcome another Bush veto or signing statement. It is high time that these policies of this administration be exposed as against the American people’s wants and needs. So, Veto Away (override big time, and get it in the news cycle another round) or Signing Statement Away (and expose that for the unconstitutional action that it is). I hope that this bill and the SCHIP vetoes give the Democrats some spine on the harder issues like Iraq, which is so frustrating for not being at the forefront. Come on in to the popular pool, Democrats — the American public has been way out in front of the politicians!
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:53 pmI am afraid I see it like #1. If he doesn’t get his way, he will find a way to get his way. Signing statements being so good to him in the past.
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:53 pmDear Leader is a hopeless moron.
Pass me my Unknown American bag, please!
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:57 pm… so what exactly is this legislation about?
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:00 pmVeto to your heart’s content, dear chimpo but now you will be overruled by a 2/3 majority. Take that!
And I don’t believe that he can sign his way out of this with a signing statement which will have any teeth.
Since these signing statements must be on record, how about the people finally getting a glimpse of these 200+ “defacto exonerations”, eh?
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:22 pmVeto away, lameduck! Veto away! And if you attempt to “sign away”, this, too will be made public and you will take the remanants of your own GOP right down the toilet with you.
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:23 pm“political retribution” is what GW666 is all about. You must be loyal to GW666 or you’re the enemy.
Don’t look for the repukians to override his veto, they only signed it to look like they are honest (cough) now, after he vetos it, they will simply turn tail and now vote on an override.
Buck Fush
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:52 pmYou gotta hand it to him, he’s consistent. Veto anything that might make him look bad. I am soooo tired of this moron and the humiliation he brings to this country every day he is in office.
October 3rd, 2007 at 8:07 pmPlease! It will never pass even if he vetos it bc Hillary could be in the office and God knows she doesn’t want any oversight…Go ask Vince Foster…oh yeah, you can’t.
