Anti-Immigration Hate Group Intent On Denying Green Card For Soldiers’ Spouses

Eduardo Gonzalez is preparing to deploy for his third tour of duty with the U.S. Navy in November. He will serve aboard the U.S.S. Harry Truman in the Persian Gulf. As he faces deployment, Gonzalez is not focused on his own safety, as most would be, but rather on the safety of his wife (who is not a U.S. citizen) and child, who face “deportation to Guatemala.”

Gonzalez described his feelings on the situation:

Defending the country that’s trying to kick my family out, goes through my mind. … This is the type of situation that the government doesn’t really get to see. They’re tearing families apart. And it hurts. It hurts a lot.

Watch CNN’s report on the story:

Despite Gonzalez’s service to the nation, anti-immigration hate groups are rallying to deport Mildred Gonzalez. Mark Krikorian, who heads the the Center for Immigration Studies, a radical group that opposes immigration, offered this heartless assessment of the situation:

What you’re talking about is amnesty for illegal immigrants who have a relative in the armed forces, and that’s just outrageous. What we’re talking about here is letting lawbreakers get away with their actions just because they have a relative in the military. … There’s no justification for that kind of policy.

The Center for Immigration Studies was founded by John Tanton. “Most Americans have never heard of John Tanton because he operates behind the scenes, but he is the founder and/or early funder of almost every national anti-immigrant organization in the country, including at least a dozen groups” that promote a racist ideology.

The right-wing is more than happy to send Gonzales off to fight in Iraq, but can’t see beyond their hate to reciprocate his patriotic service by granting his wife legal residence.

We’re a proud country that others should look to follow
Now since most Americans wont join the Military
we have soldiers who while there away we ship their
wives out of the US, others we deny medial benefits and if a soldier is lucky to come home alive we make
sure he gets poor medial care so he can die from
infections. That’s what America means when it says

Dunno, katy… wondered about that myself. I have caught them making the same comment months apart… EXACT same phrasing… they do seem to work off of scripts, or some of them do.

Kind of a creepy phenomenon, if ya ask me.

Some comments are SO harsh and nasty, I suspect they’re also posted just to make the site look bad, so someone like O’Reilly can point and say, see? See?

And you contradict yourself with this post… Making a completely racist and improbable post. For you to vote for Jesse, you would have been registered Democrat. An unlikely case, the more likely answer being that you’re a racist that’s making an excuse for your racism.

They have sad, empty and lonely lives, so they come here to try and get attention. And unfortunately we give it to them. I used to ignore the Right Wing Loons, but lately I have been so angry at the Democrats and at the apathy in this country, I have started playing Whack-a-Troll. I know it doesn’t accomplish anything, but it is a stress reliever and sometimes it’s even fun. I get a particular kick out of little mikey who comes here, makes outrageous statements and then when he is challenged to prove what he says, he tries to change the subject. And then when he is repeatedly challenged, he slinks off into the night with his tail between his legs. Just out of curiosity, has anyone here ever seen michael back up anything he says?

By then, there won’t even be a formidable Repuke candidate – not to mention the waning (27%) registered Repuke voters. That’s their intention and goal and they are achieving it handily because Repukes make such easy targets.

  30. wiseass.org says:

#38 And it was passed knowing that Bush would veto it and the dems could make political hay of it.

So Gordon Smith-R OR an over 27 other GOP Senators passed the SCHIP bill so Democrats could make political hay out of chimpy vetoing it?

Pretty magnanimous of 27 GOP Senators to do that don’tcha think?

  31. Lefty Patriot says:

Extending health care to the middle class has become a necessity in the age of profits over peoples’ lives. Of course the Murderer-In-chief vetoed it, he hates Americans. and the dems not only should use it as poltical haymaking, they should tag every anany repig that that doesn’t vote to overide the veto with the “chikd-murderer” label. It’s only fitting.

  36. bilbobaggins says:

The Right Wing Talking point that SCHIP gives health care to middle class children is a bunch of bull. There is nothing middle class about a family of four making enough with both parents working to feed, house and clothe their children, but with nothing left over to buy them health insurance. And since both parents work for companies that don’t provide adequate health insurance (like Walmart) or no health insurance at all, SCHIP is that families only hope of getting their children decent health care. And then, of course, they themselves have no health care.

There is something fundamentally wrong with a country that thinks that health care is a privilege and not a right.

Could we find out what vat of excrement John Tanton was grown in and deport him there head first immediately? Something is missing in this story since it is supposed to be possible for the wife and child of a citizen to obtain a K3/K4 Visa:

    A person may receive a K-3 visa if :

    The person has concluded a valid marriage with a citizen of the United States;
The person has a relative petition (Form I-130) filed by the U.S. citizen spouse for the person; etc., etc. fill out form wait for the wheels to turn yadda, yadda.

Failing that, which I see no reason there is a problem, why can’t a rep from Florida – congress person, senator, whatever turn the screws and make this happen?

I did better than that, it was a completely curse-free post. 50. JoshDest says:

I’m not completely up to date on this story, but, ahem, if someone isn’t following the law to begin with…what do you do?

If you don’t pay your taxes, and a soldier doesn’t pay his taxes, yet you go to jail, and he doesn’t, is that right?

No. People make choices every day. There must be more to the story, since immigrants who marry American citizens are naturalized?

    jus sayin.

  51. texaslady says:

How about the soldiers family returning and coming through the door legally but expedited? Serve in the military go to the front of the line.

The problem with illegals jumping the border is our immigration process is too long, drop the quotas, mass up the people to document anyone wanting in to work, visa in two weeks. Employer has to pay payroll tax on every worker. But will need a data bank and money to do it, but our system isn’t working now.

Also, lengthen the period to obtain citizenship and no voting until citizenship is passed.

And yes, there are jobs Americans won’t do, visit a meat processing plant and stand in blood, cleaning up the meat we all eat each day.

  52. old_hack says:

why do you call people who want to secure our borders from Mexicans and Guatamalins a hater? He’s just a concerned citizen in my view. And they didn’t mention if the soldier was a citizen because he joined the military? and if She’s b een here since she was 5 years old how come she never payed the admittance fee and go through the proper channels to obtain legal citizenship? 7,000 people a day are sneaking into our country. That’s a problem. And most Mexicans don’t want to join us they just want to create a new mexico in our country because they’re not here to become Americans, They’re here to escape the Mexican government. They don’t like America and they don’t appreciate what we are offering them. They need to learn how to respect our country if they’re going to use us to escape the tyrrany of Mexico.

Every where we go in california we see pregnant mexican women becaus they are having children to obtain citizenship without having to go through the proper channels. And they stay undocumented so they can work in Mexican made and owned illegal factories and also so they can just go back and forth all they want laundering American money into Mexicos economy.

it’s not right people. it’s just not right and it’s disrespectful to us who are offering them a better life.

anyone who thinks I’m racist can stuff that thought up your ass. I’m a liberal through and through. I just don’t like people who think they’re above the law. or don’t respect our laws and culture.

  53. texaslady says:

#67 Living in Texas I thoroughly agree with you. Several small town border hospitals have had to shut down because of so much free service to Mexican mothers coming across to have their babies, which then allows the whole family, which is all uncles, aunts, grandparents. So it is not just one family.

They also drop the children at the border, the kids walk across and go to school.

But our President is a corporate cheerleader and corporates are benefiting by avoiding payroll taxes that pay for public services.
Doesn’t anyone wonder why Border Agents doing their jobs are imprisoned.

  54. cmdc says:

These days, there seems to be no better way to derail a conversation than to mention immigration. A constructive conversation, that is. Add “illegal” to the mix and there there are no holds barred — even hate speech that was unacceptable not long ago, now thinly veiled under that label, has become acceptable.
I do hope that for a matter of this complexity we get to a point where we acknowledge that simplistic solutions are just that — simplistic, and won’t solve the problem. We didn’t get to this point in a day, and we are all intertwined with the workings of immigration and immigrants, whether positive or negative, and most reports would point is positive on the aggregate.
The story of this soldier is a microcosm of the subject, and deserves constructive deliberation. Let’s give it that much.

On another note — let’s clarify that being a liberal and being a racist are not mutually exclusive, just like being a conservative and being racist are not mutually inclusive.

  55. texaslady says:

Comity – come and live on the border, clean up the trash and human excrement left by the illegals crossing over, fix the broken fences and let your house be broken into and things stolen. Lets see your compassion then. And what about the 2 Agents doing their job and imprisoned for 10 years trying to stop a drug dealer.

If you would read my early idea, you would place the blame where it should be. We NEED more immigration people and a data bank using work visas (which we already have) cut the immigration time to two weeks for those wanting in . Lets do some health checking on the immigrants as well, TB is showing up after years and years.

And last, MAKE the companies that hire, pay the payroll taxes that cover the services the immigrants need.

Right now illegal is illegal and until we change the law…these people have broken our laws.

  56. Liberal_X says:

hey texaslady we r talking about legal immigration……. not illegal immigration…..Go Join stormfront.org.You will be most welcome there.

  57. texaslady says:

No, the topic was illegal immigration that is where they cross the border and give the finger to Border Agents. And my comment is how it can be stopped in 6 months if you care to read.

  58. texaslady says:

And the problem was the soldier’s wife has no documents, let them return to their homeland and come through legally and expedited because he has served in the military.

THere is a big difference between immigration and illegally entering the country. Look it up.

  61. Liberal_X says:

    make that 6 years……

  62. texaslady says:

#77 I have lived in England (great healthcare system operating since 1945) I have lived in Germany, Spain, visited China, Taiwan, Mexico, Guatamala. Sorry that my travels are so narrow. Have also lived in the U.S. in Iowa (grew up there on a farm) Florida, Colorado, and Texas. My father was a German immigrant came over in 1922 at the age of 19 THROUGH ELLIS ISLAND. Became a citizen and paid taxes his whole life til he was 72, never took Social Security he loved working.

Again, read what is going on here on the Texas border, it doesn’t have to be that way. More immigration officials, shorten the time to get in to the States, document with temporary work visas. Could work.

  63. Liberal_X says:

Ok i also am not an avid fan of illegal immigration. But still calling them names(thieves n such) is not the way to go.They are just trying to have a better life that america portrays through every media.Just like your father did though he came legally. My mother too came to america from japan when she way just a young adult.Married a white guy.Made me mixed race.My point america is land of dreams.Lets keep it that way.I hope you agree.

  64. commonvalue says:

As an immigrant whose brother is a marine, I am beyond words at the blindness and lack of compassion that the anti immigrant forces are exhibiting in this debate. We have a broken immigration system that is tearing families apart while the ultimate sacrifice– putting your life on the line- cannot get even the slightest recognition. This is NOT about giving the wife of this soldier AMNESTY. Mark Krikorian is acting out of pure hatred and from a place that exposes where these “think tanks”really come from. Americans will soon realize this and it will mean the end of this ugly rhetoric.

  65. texaslady says:

#80 – The truth is if their country which is a very rich country would stop their corruption they could live and earn a living at home. But that is a pipe dream and they prefer taking chances here than standing up to their government. Mexico is much more harsh to law breakers than the U.S.

Breaking into other people’s property is wrong, hungry tired or cold when literally 100’s are doing it every week is it fair to people who have worked all their lives for their home. And there is a fear of being hurt by the drug runners.

It would be so easy to increase the immigration people, get a data bank going to list the incoming people. There again someone will cry that is invasion of privacy, but my father’s name is still listed in the archives of Ellis Island. That is a small price to pay to come and earn a living. But MAKE corporate pay taxes on these people to support the services.

How is that ugly rhetoric ?

    It is an outrage!

    GOP BUZZWORD BREAKDOWN

    “Rule of Law”

    Q. What is the penalty for Business owners who entice workers to violate federal immigration law, labor laws, and reporting regulations?

    A. Possible fine and a stern talking to.

    Q. What is the penalty for a foreign worker without proper authorization?

    A. Apprehension, indefinite detainment (in a remotely located detention facility owned by a Haliburton Subsidiary), Deportation and a 10 year or permanent exile from the United States. Some detainees die as a result of denial of medication necessary to sustain life such as Insulin for diabetics or statins for heart patients. Mixed status US Citizen families suffer separations from loved ones more severe for this civil infraction than robbers, murderers and rapists.

  68. ThinkingRightLivingLeft says:

The “REAL” question here is should the State get involved in the PRIVATE PERSONAL FAMILY AFFAIRS of a US Citizen? Isn’t the role of the State to protect Life, Liberty, Persuit of Happiness? And what of that little “freedom from unreasonable search and siezure” thing? Isn’t it a bit unreasonable to “sieze” someones wife and destroy the nuclear family of a US Citizen for a civil violation of a constitutionally questionable law? An what about this soldiers right to free association? How many of these goofy Anti Immigrationists waited for 5,6,7 years to get a government stamp of approval before they got married?

  69. bernarda says:

Maybe texaslady is confused by discrepancies in the video report and the written report.

The video says she came illegally, but the text says that she and her mother were granted political asylum. She was 5 at the time. Now after nearly 20 years the government wants to deport her. What sense does that make?

The written report also says that because she got married six weeks before her mother was granted permanent residency, she was disqualified. What sense does that make?

But one shouldn’t expect reason and logic from the rightwing.
