Karl Rove’s Deputy J. Scott Jennings Resigns»

jenningsc.gif J. Scott Jennings, White House Deputy Director of Political Affairs, has been Karl Rove’s right-hand man, assisting him in schemes ranging from the U.S. attorney scandal to political briefings at government agencies.

ThinkProgress spoke with a White House spokesperson today who confirmed that Jennings is resigning, less than two months after his boss stepped down. The official told ThinkProgress that Jennings would be leaving “sometime soon.” KYPolitics.org reports that Jennings is leaving to become a principal at Peritus Public Relations in Kentucky.

A look back at Jennings’s tenure at the White House:

Installed political cronies as U.S. attorneys: Jennings was intimately involved in installing Rove-protege Tim Griffin as U.S. attorney in Arkansas. E-mails show that “Jennings was in close contact with Griffin, even working out the logistics of getting Griffin appointed.” A former RNC research director, Griffin was allegedly involved in a voter suppression scheme in the 2004 election.

Briefed government employees on helping GOP candidates: In Jan. 2007, Jennings and GSA chief Lurita Doan held a briefing for agency employees on “ways to help Republican candidates.” Multiple other government agencies report similar briefings. The Hatch Act explicitly prohibits partisan campaign activities on federal property.

Skirted Presidential Records Act by using political e-mail accounts: Jennings was one of at least 80 White House aides who stopped using official government e-mail accounts to avoid public scrutiny. Instead, he used a “gwb43.com” e-mail address to correspond about his political — and potentially illegal — activities.

The White House official with whom ThinkProgress spoke could not give a reason for Jennings’s departure.

You are correct, Menehune. Check out DailyKos for the story.

  12. Veritas Says:

I hope that Mr. Jennings doesn’t think that by quitting his position he’s going to walk away scott-free or rove-free as the case may be. His fingerprints are also all over every criminal deed of this capricious administration. He’ll be lucky if he doesn’t see prison time before all is said and done. And, it couldn’t happen to a more worthy guy!

  13. electricphoto Says:

The rats are abandoing the ship…

  14. Veritas Says:

#12 Hooray! Hooray! Old slicky-dicky Craig thought he’s sleaze himself out of this one. Let’s face it: no pleads guilty to a crime they didn’t commit. Certainly not someone as slick as this dude. adios, pervo! Don’t let the door hit you in the behind on the way out!

  15. Menehune Says:

Mr. Jennings, do be so kind as to not streak the bowl on your way down.

  16. bob h Says:

squeak squeak, time to find a job in the pwivate sectorah

  17. Veritas Says:

Rats abandoning a “sinking” ship, indeed! The handwriting is on the wall that they will be investigated and subpoenaed under oath once this corrupt administration is out of the house. They’d all better be heading to the door and to exile in a foreign country if they know what’s good for them. Otherwise, they’ll all become complicit in the war crimes of the Bush Crime Cabal.

  18. Veritas Says:

I don’t believe that he will slink off scott-free. He’s guilty by association and whatever corruption his fingerprints touched.

  19. Veritas Says:

I think a grand jury needs to be convened to investigate these crimes of Scott Jennings. Obviously, he’s been involved on a very deep level in all of it. They all need to pay for their criminal actions just like the rest of us. Now let’s find an honest DOJ employee in the bunch willing to take this gang of thugs on.

  20. Wayne Says:

Yep…. Wonder if Tappy will actually retire as he promised now?

  21. RUCerious Says:

With all the new executive powers, lets just have him declared an enemy combatant, send him to Gitmo, and waterboard him. All to protect the nation of course.

  23. Frosty Cupcake Says:

I agree with Krazny above. The damage is done and this guy will be set for life. Hell, Scooter Libby was *convicted* and he’s set for life.

  24. RUCerious Says:

    plush pupply

    Yes, my fingers are drunk.

    Case dismissed.

  28. Badmoodman Says:

“KYPolitics.org reports…” - - Considering how BushCo has been doinking us with our pants on for going on seven years, this name is all too appropriate.

  29. Nevar Says:

He and Larry can get together and work on their power point presentation.

Wasn’t there a saying about rats and sinking ships???

    Comment by raynman — October 4, 2007 @ 3:13 pm

May I be so bold as to make one small correction?

“… about rats and SUNKEN SHIPS…” not sinking, “SUNKEN”…

Sink, (v) - to sink. Sink, sank, sunk, sunken.

    Glub… glub… glub…

  31. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

KYPolitics.org reports that Jennings is leaving to become a principal at Peritus Public Relations in Kentucky.

Righto! He’ll be working out of the Paraguay office.

  32. Badmoodman Says:

I thought if these guys were quitting BushCo they HAD to go before Labor Day. At least that was the cover story back in August.

  33. S.D. Says:

  35. SP Biloxi Says:

Memo to House Committee: Make sure that Jennings’ email addresses, jsj@gwb43.com and sjennings@gwb43.com are not confiscated by the WH.

  36. Bush is a four letter word Says:

Good heavens, whatever will this person do with his life, now that the coattails he once rode on - of a person who once rode on the coattails of the worst political failure in American history - has resigned? Why, resign himself of course!

And then write a book. If you can put together 10,000 words that include “Bush,” “liberal,” “9/11,” and “Iraq,” you’ve immediately got a place reserved on the dittohead bestseller list.

Validity? Truthfulness? Relevance? All distractions of credibility that mere journalists must abide; the pundit transcends these trappings of respectability and prints from the gut - that place where bile, guilt, and indigestible fast food churn with patriotic vigor.

Suggested titles for the forthcoming epic:

“Fear and Loathing in Los Alamos: The 2004 Bush Campaign”

“Gods and General Services: How I taught the GSA to fear Jesus”

“Blackberry Law Fictionary: Using technology to circumvent the Hatch Act”

  39. texaslady Says:

I know a good temporary service agency to fill all the holes.

Man oh man, its gonna hurt when you find out why.

  41. texaslady Says:

Hey Capt Mantastic and Rory I hear there are openings why not send a resume. A resume is your experience and qualifications, oh wait it is for the White House just send them your political views.

Young Republicans where are you ? Your leader needs you !!!

  42. VerbalKint Says:

Perhaps he is resigning to join the advance team down at the ranch in Paraguay.

  43. wifus Says:

This is just my one small little opinion, but I don’t understand what all of you are thinking (crowing) about!

Do you think that any of these criminals have had a “Come To Jesus” moment, and relinquished their evil ways?

In my opinion, not one chance in Hell. Has a single one of them hung their head in shame and apologized for ANY of this? No! And, why? They are not ashamed; they are too wicked to even understand, I’m very afraid, at this point.

They will plug along, like some cancer, and find other (dare I say, more nefarious ways) to get to their goal.

I think the goal is the same for all of these sick weirdos. They just realized that the route that they took, trying to take over OUR DEMOCRACY and create Karl’s version of a “Managed-Democracy”, isn’t going to work.

I’ll bet you anything, and I do mean anything, that they are all resigning and REGROUPING and coming back like some sick Freddie Krueger.

I read political blogs all the time, but I’ve not been one to sign up and comment too much, myself. However, sitting where I sit right now, I’m afraid, and I think that people may be missing the ball. I hope that I’m very wrong, because I’m 51 years old, and I DO NOT want to have to leave my home and move to another country.

Take care, all, and I’ll try to be more brief, if I ever comment again.
