McConnell cancels press event to avoid questions on Craig.

Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) today announced that he would go the distance and serve until the end of his Senate term. Fox News reports that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who had previously referred to Craig’s conduct as “unforgivable,” canceled a press conference in order “to avoid questions and declined comment about Craig’s future in the Senate.” Watch Fox News’s report:

LOL I love the opening image in the clip.

    Too funny.

  2. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

    My favorite Larry Craig fun-fact:

Larry’s favorite food is a hotdog stuffed into a potato, a dish he calls the “Supertuber.”

    Priceless.

  3. Hardy Haberman says:

And so now the battle within the GOP will begin. Craig broke the only ethics rule the GOP has, and that is “never have a scandal that involves anything between your waist and your knees.”

  4. Red Pill says:

God forgives, Mitch…I’m sure you can, too.

  5. Pontificator says:

FYI…Craig’s from Idaho, not New Mexico. Understandable given the Domenici news and Craig’s recent announcement.

  6. Nevar says:

FYI…Craig’s from Idaho, not New Mexico.

I thought the NM after Larry’s name stood for Nasty Man.

Please fix this one, TP, you’re not even close.

They’ve got him confused with Domenici, somehow. Hard to tell the Republican senators apart, I guess.

  8. Ivans son says:

    Larry Craig…

Let’s be clear, we only want him out as he is (i) GOP (ii) anti Gay rights and (iii) a hypocrite

Can we run a pro gay candidate (or preferably an openly gay candidate) against him at the next election?

  9. celtic cynic says:

Mayhap one of Larry’s lovers is Mitchie-poo?

  10. Nevar says:

Rory might not be jake after all, she burns out pretty early in the day.
Or maybe it’s all the heavy pain killers following the operation.

  11. tarazan says:

McConnel said later: Our policy toward Craig now can be put in two words..”Hush and Flush”..

  12. Laszlo Panaflex says:

Craig is not NM’s jackass, he’s Idaho’s. NM’s jackass is Pete Domenici.

  13. helenahandbasket says:

Anyone think Sen. craig will go to the Grand Old Pervert convention in Minneapolis? It would give him another opportunity to straighten “things” out at the airport.

  14. rocks911 says:

    Ret. Col. Jack Ripper,

Could that possibly be true? Supertuber?

GOP group targets Romney in new TV ad.

I love it when sociopaths go after their own.

  16. fletc3her says:

We can’t even trust the corrupted Republicans to resign when they say they are going to. Nice to see the culture of corruption is still going strong. Republicans always say they must wait until after the court case has been decided before calling judgement on one of their own. Here, the court case is not only decided, but he plead guilty. And yet, he is still in office. Unbelievable.

  17. rocks911 says:

“I’m fine throwing ALL homosexuals out of Congress”

    Spoken like a true sociopath.

  18. Ivans son says:

    Rory,

Why throw all homosexuals out of congress?

That’s not quite it, if so, Vitter would be in hot water too. You forgot to mention the part about the other person being of the same sex. They seem fine with one of theirs visiting prostitutes in diapers, but when they get caught hitting on someone of their own sex, well that’s too much!

Personally I think it is great that Craig is sticking around. He is the poster child for what is wrong with the Republican party and he will be a daily reminder to Americans how low the party has sunk.

  20. bilbobaggins says:

Please ignore the Far Left Loon Jake (aka Rory) aka IT!

If we ignore IT, IT will get tired and go play somewhere else.

  21. bilbobaggins says:

Boy, you sure can tell how tired I am – Far Right Loon Jake. I figured out today I had it wrong, O’Reilley calls people “Far Left Loon” not “Left Wing Loon”, so I have to change my endearment for the trolls. I guess I had his original insult on my brain when I posted that.

  22. Innocent Bystander says:

He stated his INTENT to resign. As I said above, I’m fine throwing ALL homosexuals out of Congress; are you OK with that?

    Comment by Rory — October 4, 2007 @ 7:50 pm

Of course not, Shakey. It’s not the fact that he’s a homosexual. It’s that he’s a closeted homosexual who votes against equality legislation for people with his orientation. It’s all about the hypocrisy. If you bothered to, you know, read this site and get educated, you’d understand that hypocrisy is the core operating principle of the Republican Party. Beside greed and corruption.

But there’s an upside here. Looks like McConnel won’t be scheduling any pressers through 2008. You can run Mitch, but you can’t hide.

  23. ForTruth says:

I would hope that the good, red, folk of Idaho are not going to allow this man to continue.

  24. Ditch Mitch KY says:

Heckuva Job, Mitchie. For more on the work in Kentucky to defeat, in 2008, this sorry-ass excuse for a Senator see:

    #22 Rory

He stated his INTENT to resign. As I said above, I’m fine throwing ALL homosexuals out of Congress; are you OK with that?

There’s nothing wrong with homosexuals serving in Congress. It’s only the closeted, hypocritical, self-loathing, lying, scumbag homosexuals in Congress that are the problem. And, they’re all Republicans. They need to go. Are you OK with that?

There’s a practical reason for it, anyway. Openly gay members of Congress aren’t a security risk. Closeted gay members of Congress, consumed with shame, are. They’ll do anything to keep from being exposed. As Larry Craig has so aptly demonstrated.

  26. chimpeach says:

It’s not that Craig really wants to stay in the Senate. He just doesn’t want to have to go back to Idaho where he risks getting the crap kicked out of him.

  27. senilebiker says:

Well I kinda feel sorry for ol Larry, but love the schadenfreude.

I don’t believe he has been caught doing anything fundamentally illegal, trying to pick someone up in a bathroom is tacky, but really shouldn’t break any laws. Even having sex in a bathroom is no big deal (or at least wouldn’t be if you guys in the US had proper doors which go down to the floor like we do in Europe)

Where Larry has his nuts in the vice is is his obvious dishonesty – his anti gay statements, his standing for family values and the other right wing talking points. I don’t expect politicians to be saints in the personal lives, but I do expect them to have integrity.

Having said that, the longer he stays in the Senate, the more he emphasises the hypocrisies of the Republican party.

    Hang in there Larry

  28. A Patriot Acting says:

Every time a Republican from the House, Senate, Presidential race or the Administration steps in front of a microphone, the press should ask the speakers opinion on Larry Craig. These hypocrites will be so afraid of press conferences, they’ll have a hell of a time trying to get their talking points out to the public. The comedy talk show circus of O’Lyely and Limberger should be constantly barraged with Larry Craig questions also. Make these scumbags feel the heat for a change.

  29. Menehune says:

#37…that would require a “liberal” press. Let this be a good experiment to see if the press really IS as liberal as the wingers say. I suspect the story will be dropped like a hot potato.

  30. theswan says:

McConnell is pulling a “don’t ask, don’t tell?”

  31. Bad Eye says:

This is great! If Craig is going to use poor judgment in pleading guilty when he otherwise says he is not guilty, it makes you wonder about his state of mind when voting for, or submitting, or debating, legislation in Congress.

  32. Art says:

“to avoid questions and declined comment about Craig’s future in the Senate.”
If they close their eyes tight enough, it will go away.
