After news broke that Sen. Pete Domenici (R-NM) would not be running for re-election, Rep. Heather Wilson (R-NM) announced she would be seeking Domenici’s seat. Domenici continued to be “dogged” by questions about his role in the U.S. attorney scandal, but Wilson isn’t in the clear either. Like Domenici, Wilson made “unprecedented” — and possibly illegal — phone calls to U.S. attorney David Iglesias pressuring him to prosecute Democrats before the Nov. 2006 elections.
Good. Wilson's candidacy is like a gift for the Dems. It'll keep the stink of Republic Party corruption in the air throughout the election.
October 4th, 2007 at 6:33 pmWe are talking about New Mexico, where they will most likely hold their nose and vote for the (R).
October 4th, 2007 at 6:34 pmOh goody! ANOTHER rightwing tool!!
October 4th, 2007 at 6:35 pmIt’s not going to happen if I can do anything about it.
I can't believe Heather is even in office here. I live in her district (#1ABQ). She barely squeaked by in the last two elections and everybody here has heard the never ending refrain of "Heather votes 90% with Bush" - as Bush goes (and now old Pete) so goes Heather.
I will do all I can personally to see her candidacy crash and burn.
Very early on in the Busheney presidency I sent her email recommending impeachment for the lies and making our great nation into a crass aggressor. She sent me a reply that said “I know you hate president Bush but impeachment is a serious matter†- I done all I can to defeat her since.
October 4th, 2007 at 6:43 pm"If it was “illegal†then prosecute her.
jake"
Unfortunetely, it's the local SAG who would have to bring charges. you know, the one that got the job after the two republtrolls pushed an honest SAG out the door...
October 4th, 2007 at 6:45 pmWilson won the 2006 election by about 800 votes. She wasn't declared the winner until 2 weeks after election day. She's not a shoo-in for the Senate by any stretch.
October 4th, 2007 at 6:52 pmI agree, Candyce. As a resident of New Mexico, I have witnessed the noses wrinkling over her scandalous election, and subsequent involvement with the attorneys scandal.
October 4th, 2007 at 7:01 pmAnnouncing her candidacy so soon on the heels of Dirty Peter's announcement smacks of opportunism.
She may be hoping to gain the oil, gas and weapons lobby, but the fallout from the scandals, plus the progress this state has made under Bill Richardson's lead gives her about a snowballs chance in Hatch.
He is suffering from Domentia.
October 4th, 2007 at 7:04 pmDomenici is afflicted with a deteriorating neurological (brain) disorder. The type of frontal lobe disorder he has is said to lead to extremely poor judgement and inability to make rational decisions. He intends to FINISH his term, which means he'll hold office until Jan. of 2009!! That's 16 months! He needs to resign right now from the Senate...this man votes on issues that will affect every single American, perhaps for years to come! His party should put pressure on him to do so (very doubtful..since his seat is so competitive), but if they gave a damn for their country, they would do exactly that. Hopefully, the citizens of New Mexico will insist that he resign.
October 4th, 2007 at 8:00 pm"The type of frontal lobe disorder he has is said to lead to extremely poor judgement and inability to make rational decisions. "
Sounds like the same condition could be associated with some WH frontal lobes.
October 4th, 2007 at 8:14 pmHeather Wilson also appears to be a bottom-feeder.
October 4th, 2007 at 8:39 pmWe NEED her to be their nominee. Her campaigns are NASTY. A primary contest between her and Iglesias could be fascinating.
Bill should be someone's Secretary of State.
But Senator Udall sounds just FINE, to me!
October 4th, 2007 at 9:49 pmSenator Richardson or Senator Udall sounds great for 2008. Good riddance to Domenici and his sidekick Heather Wilson.
October 4th, 2007 at 11:48 pmGood ! Not only will the Democrats win the New Mexico Senate Seat, but also Ms Wilson's House Heat. Hopefully both will be fighting liberals and not the wimps that we have today. Beyonce Welch - African American Lady Who is a Proud Liberal
