New right-wing group to have $17 million budget.

Claiming the Republican party has “been betrayed by corruption and betrayal of conservative principles,” a “group of former aides to Ronald Reagan” are “reviving the organization that brought Reagan to power.” The group, Citizens For The Republic, includes former Reagan attorney general Richard Allen; former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, and conservative activists Brent Bozell and Gary Bauer. It “has already secured $17 million in solid financial commitments.” Steve Benen and Matthew Yglesias have more.

my initial reaction was “Oh god, another facist astroturf group” but if it further fractures the republican party, it might not be a bad thing.

  2. Menehune says:

I love how these clowns, now that their original “revolution” has been revealed to be an enormous fraud on the American people are now screaming that they were “betrayed”. We are supposed to go, “Gee, we’re sorry that your erroneous roadmap led you to drive off a cliff–here are the keys again. Do try to drive safer this time.”

These are the same retards that we have been telling for years that their party has been overrun by neocons, just called us liberal whackos.

Well, the liberal whackos were right you fu*king idiots. You think you could pay attention next time instead of just driving off the fu*king cliff?

  9. bilbobaggins says:

So, what do they plan on doing with the 17 million dollars?

It’s too bad that the Goldwater Republicans don’t get together and form their own representative group, because they are what the Republican party has lost. I know five former Goldwater Republicans who are today Democrats. Actually, if you go back and read some of the things that Goldwater wrote, he sounds a lot more like a Democrat today than like a Republican.

    Reagan is dead.

Get over it! And Reagan didn’t bring down the Soviet Union (someone tell Fred Thompson it no longer exists), OPEC did.

Yep, the more things change the more they stay the same. People need to start looking strongly at the usurption of the ‘process’ of government. Government is in the details, not the man or woman in charge.

Get RONNIE’s face on the Dime .10

“W”, BuschCo and company have majored trashed this effort since they took office and wrecked the GOP mo with the average voter.

Doubt Nancy will ever live to see the day given the state of the country and how much the conservatives have proven to be a massive nightmare for the world in general.

Hang in there Nancy! maybe by 2035

but, i’ve been hearing lately about another “conservative” group,
comprised of RICHARD VIGORY, TONY PERKINS, JAMES DOBSON…
who want to run a 3rd party candidate if rudy gets the nod…

    i have an idea:
LET’S LET THE REPUGS DIVIDE THEMSELVES UP THIS TIME.

    eh?

    OVERWHELMING DEMOCRATIC VOTER TURNOUT.

THEN THEY CAN’T STEAL THE ELECTION.

    get used to it… heh…

  23. shoeless says:

This has been the Republican strategy for some time now. When it finally became apparent, even to the wingnuts, that they could no longer defend their heinous movement, they started yelling, “We’ve been betrayed! The Republicans who got control and ruined our country aren’t really conservatives, and we never did like them anyway! We were just foolin’ when we supported them all those years. Just elect us real conservative Republicans and everything will be great next time!”

  24. Leporello says:

Betrayal of conservative principles, like small government and fiscal responsibility? Conservative principles like open and accountable government? Conservative principles like governing with the consent of the governed? People can trot out St. Ronald the Revered, but he was an awful president! Does anyone out there remember the savings and loans debacle that occured on his watch? Does anyone remember how he broke the air traffic controller’s union, and the fact that we the people are still paying for it today? The Republicans bought into the neocon idiocy 6 years ago. They had their drunken fling, now its time to pay the monsterous bill that they rang up so happily.
Impeach Bush and Cheney and Save the Constitution!

Dr. Dobson says the reported splintering of the conservatives is not happening. DrD doesn’t post on TP but he does find a national “stage” from which to speak.

His New York Times Op-Ed: ‘The Values Test’ is linked from http://www.family.org. The piece gives a brief summary of what happened in SLC last Saturday.

Some of Dr. Dobson’s words from NYT:

    .
    .
    .

After two hours of deliberation, we voted on a resolution that can be summarized as follows: If neither of the two major political parties nominates an individual who pledges himself or herself to the sanctity of human life, we will join others in voting for a minor-party candidate. Those agreeing with the proposition were invited to stand. The result was almost unanimous.

The other issue discussed at length concerned the advisability of creating a third party if Democrats and Republicans do indeed abandon the sanctity of human life and other traditional family values. Though there was some support for the proposal, no consensus emerged.

Speaking personally, and not for the organization I represent or the other leaders gathered in Salt Lake City, I firmly believe that the selection of a president should begin with a recommitment to traditional moral values and beliefs. Those include the sanctity of human life, the institution of marriage, and other inviolable pro-family principles. Only after that determination is made can the acceptability of a nominee be assessed.
    .
    .
    .

Well. This campaign is certainly shaping up interestingly.

Before the votes are counted this election will become a test between those who believes in God , and those who don’t.

That’s belief in the Christian God in case some TP posters are not clear.

  36. katy says:

wayne s. @3:55 pm – your comment reminded me of this quote…

Put some skates and roll him around, let Nancy actually run things, it will be just like his 2nd term. =P

  38. Chris L says:

You know, no matter how bad the republicans do this next election, I honestly believe they could have a decent shot at taking it all back in 2012 – if they can keep each other from constantly getting arrested. They just need to keep their noses clean and stay quiet for the next four years and then they will seriously stand a chance.

  39. Chris L says:

Of course, our side doesn’t have the inside track on Chinese communists or Bhudist temples so we are opperating at a slight disadvantage.

  40. MapleStreet says:

Even though I am a social liberal, there are a couple of conservatives from the Reagan years that I could have some trust in them.

OTOH – Newtie is one of the founding members ??????? Considering how he accelerated the slide to where we are now, how is this anything but a shallow attempt to pretend that the neocons weren’t involved with Shrub. Can I assume Ollie North will march in with Rush Limbaugh at his side ?

Am I correct ….Does OBL have a more popular rating than Preznit Booosh…..well…will wonders never cease.

    >That’s belief in the Christian God in case some TP posters are not clear.

the point of difference between this “god ” and muslims “god” is the christian god impregnated more mortals with his holy seed? or is it something else?

wheres Norman Hsu? Hiding under a bed with Jackoff Amramhoff. Care to compare and contrast them? I’m still waiting for that list of specific dollar amounts AbrMhammy gave to democrats, bigfoots promised to get it to me any day now..

    >Nah, but he does have a higher popularity rating than your Democrat >Congress..

bigfoot you got any stats on how the republican minority in congress rates?
or is that not IntellEgent enough discussion for you? hahahaha

  43. Chocolate Jesus says:

Guys you know why the bible humpers are doing this, right?
They run a hopeless third party presidential candidate to motivate thier people to show up to the polls.. this will dampen (not completely, but partially) their losses in congress.. if the bible humpers stay home en masse, it will be a real massacre for rethugs, they probably wouldnt even be able to retain a filibuster/obsctructionist minority in either chamber..
