Snow: ‘Bin Laden is outpolling Congress.’

Last night on the David Letterman Show, former White House press secretary Tony Snow responded to Bush’s low approval ratings. “It’s not as good as it could be,” he acknowledged. In an effort to change topics, he then compared Congress’s approval rating to the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. “Bin Laden is outpolling Congress,” Snow declared. Watch it:

[flv http://video.thinkprogress.org/2007/10/binladencongress1.320.240.flv]

If only the White House could show as much concern for bin Laden as it does for Congress’ ratings. Bin Laden has been on the loose for 2,215 days since 9/11. Because Bush’s attention has drifted, bin Laden is “stronger than ever.” And now, Tony Snow is using bin Laden’s regained strength as a political tool.

    What an idiot.

  2. Veritas Says:

Tony Snow is in the "final throes" I think. And his brain has become dysfunctional as well. To foist BL into the discussion is the reaction of a total moron. Get lost, Tony! Adios!

  3. Veritas Says:

What Snowjob failed to mention is that just about ANYONE could outpoll Congress. Why is that? It's because the people want Congress to uphold our constitution, force Bush to adhere to our laws and suffer the consequences for not doing so...that's why. It has absolutely no accolades for the Repukes in this number AT ALL.

If they polled to see what the people thought about the Repukes in Congress, the number would probably be close to zero.

  4. bob h Says:

when will tony finally die and leave the worlds iq higher as a result?

  5. dim wit Says:

Gee, Tony. I wonder why that is?

It certainly couldn't be because your former boss was such a fu(king failure, could it?

  6. Menehune Says:

Hey Tony, ask your former boss why OBL is even still there to serve as a convenient punch line. And THEN go F yourself.

  7. shoeless Says:

Let's see if I've got this straight. Bush and his Republican henchmen in Congress filibuster and veto nearly every effort by the Democrats to do the will of the American public, and then they crow that Congress has a low approval rating.

  8. linda Says:

snow has made that comment previously.

  9. Badmoodman Says:

Tony Snow is using bin Laden’s regained strength as a political tool - - Speaking of a political tool....

  10. tarazan Says:

    Melting Snow...

  11. Bob Says:

Is there actually a pole comparing Bin Laden to the US Congress? (I mean besides Tony Snow.) More Americans approve of BinLaden than Congress?

    WTF?

Is that medical marijuana you're smoking?

  12. American Style Fascism Says:

Shoeless, you have that about right. It's amazing, they turn the numbers like it's a boon for the Republicans. Absolutely brilliant I say. We just need to keep shedding light on all of their bs, which if you look just below the surface, it's easy to find. The administration relies on an ill-informed base that doesn't look any deeper than a sound bite and then just takes it as fact.

  13. Krazny Says:

Pretty typical tactic, instead of answering the question, turn it to bin laden, then tie him to your political enemies.

  14. Clumberfeet Says:

    And your point is?

  15. Spudge Boy Says:

If the Republicans think that this kind of tactic gets them more votes, they are sorely mistaken. The American public is waking up, albeit slow, they are still waking up.

  16. Zooey Says:

If bin Laden is more popular than Congress, he should be easy to find...

    Get bent, Snowflake.

  17. Pete Bogs Says:

who participated in these polls? the same groups? you're FOS, Tony...

  18. leftcoast Says:

Bin Laden outpolls congress because the republicans destroyed congress.

  19. missmolly Says:

    A number of observations here:

    1) Snow is reduced to using the same tired talking point the trolls here use. Congress approval ratings are almost always lower than the president's -- even outside of the Bush era -- due to one being for an individual and the other being for an entity made up of many individuals. Apples and oranges, and I have pointed out the differences in detail many times in these threads, as have others.

    2) Snow points out an "11% approval rating for Congress". From what poll does he get this number? Or is he just pulling it out of his ass? I can find no poll with that number, or a number anywhere near it.

    3) Snow asserts that bin Laden is polling higher. Where is this bin Laden approval poll? And who are they polling? I assume Snow is just meaning this as a joke to make his point about low Congress ratings to distract from the abysmal numbers his former boss is getting.

Having said all of that, Snow has a point (even though he sounds like a blog troll making it). There is no doubt that Congress could be doing a better job. Snow's party carries more blame than the Dems (according to the same pollsters who bring us all these lovely numbers), but the Dems aren't blameless. They flat out aren't doing what they were elected to do.

  20. NoMoreBush Says:

Hmm, let's see -- Ted Stevens, David Vitter, Larry Craig, Jerry Lewis, John DoLittle -- hmm, yes, I can see why Congress has such low approval ratings. Indeed.

I certainly despise by reps in Congress: Ric "anti SCHIP" Keller and Mel "former RNC chairman" Martinez. My personal approval ratings for those two Bush enablers is 0%.

  28. Buckie Boy Says:

I totally approve of my rep in congress, you know the one who went to Bagdad and said hey, the inspectors are right, there are no WMDs, you know, BAGDAD JIM McDermit, the one who got it RIGHT. The one who said it would be a hugh mistake to invade, that Rep. He is totally approved of in his district. We are Proud of him.
It's the republicans in congress that I disapprove of.

You're right -- I have been intending to read that book, and it's about time I got off my butt and did it.

The legislative process is such that it might be asking a lot of the Dems to fix it -- especially since they will get no help from the Repubs in doing so. There was a time when I had enough youthful idealism that I could believe both parties might work together to repair the system, but as an old and jaded woman, I know better.

  34. texaslady Says:

Tony Snow's comment about our loss of troops will forever be remembered, "it is only a number." continues the lack of empathy for those being used for cannon fodder by this administration. Tony needs to do some heavy review of his life and his loyalties.

No dodge Rx2. The American people were expecting the Dems to bring this country back from the brink of endless war and insanity - but they haven't. So we are disappointed, and that disappointment has showed in recent polls. When and if the Dems ever find a backbone and stand up to the criminals squatting in our white house, their ratings will blow through the roof into 100% territory.

Or like you dodge the fact that America likes any president more than any Congress, regardless of who controls it. Americans *always* judge Congress harshly, although they're more likely to like their own representative. It's just not relevant, R2, no matter how many times you yap about it.

  47. bilbobaggins Says:

Oh how witty of him, OBL is out polling Congress. I really do wish that someone would respond to these king of stupid remarks with, "and you do know that there are still Republicans in Congress" so that means that OBL is out polling the Republicans. That would make just as much sense as Snow's stupid remarks.

So this is how he is going to make more money after his retirement, going on the comedy circuit.

  49. Veritas Says:

If Snowjob thinks that bringing the fact that BL is still "at large" which is a black mark on Bush is a way to make a point, then one would have to question what kind of point he's really trying to make.

I guess his treatments are affecting his brain at this point. Surely Bush couldn't be too happy with Snow reminding the people that Bush has failed to capture Bin Laden.

Right Wing Loon Roger squared with a tired old talking point that was put to a lie by the recent Washington Post poll that showed that Americans like the Democrats in Congress 38%, but Bush and the Republicans in Congress 31%. Doesn't sound like America likes Bush more than the Democrats. Then there is the inconvenient truth that a large majority of the people in this country support the Democrats on all issues. The only one that was close was terrorism where the Democrats were only one percentage point ahead of the Republicans. But, considering the fact that 6 months ago the Republicans were something like 15 percentage points ahead of the Democrats on Terrorism, I do believe that the Republicans are losing it.

  58. AlphaLiberal Says:

George Bush is bin Laden's and al Qaeda's best publicist. He needs to inflate al Qaeda's worth and authority to justify his gross violations of the United States Constitution and reckless warmongering.
