Why is Bush always doing that cheesy “gunfighter” thing w/ his arms? I’ve seen picture after picture like that. It’s right out of a 1940’s Western.

“So I looked Saddam right in the eye, see? And I said, ya better be quick, Hoo-sein, ’cause lead’s gonna be flyin’ any second…”

Yea, I always thought he got that Texas Redneck Swagger from watch8ng too many John Wayne movies. But maybe it is so he can insure he doesn't block everyone's view of the Dubya patented inflatable codpiece. After all, it is his best feature!

katy,

I wonder if the rule will include some sort of language insulating drug companies from lawsuits by consumers made ill by the side-effects of these drugs.

I've been concerned for some time about drug companies advertising perscription drugs on TV and in magazines to the general public. All that does is increase demand and minimize the negative side effects in the mind of the consumer.

It's like, "LOOK, with this drug you get a beautiful woman, a fast car and a dog. (by the way, you could die) Call your doctor now and insist on getting a perscription for XXXXX."

Now, people won't even need to get a perscription, so there won't even be a doctor involved saying, hey, wait a minute, you don't really need this drug, and if you do take it, you could die.

holy crap...

FDA drug proposal would bypass the doctor

By Daniel Costello, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer October 5, 2007
Physicians may be losing their lock on Americans' medicine cabinets.

For years, consumers have had two options at the drugstore. They could either show up with a doctor's prescription or settle for less powerful medications sold over the counter.

Now the Food and Drug Administration is considering creating a different option, a class of medicines dubbed behind-the-counter drugs. It would let consumers purchase routine medicines that could include birth control pills, cholesterol drugs and migraine medicine without a prescription -- as long as they discuss it with a pharmacist first.

Pharmacists and drug companies like the idea; doctors think it's dangerous. If approved, the drug classification could go into effect as early as next year.

and THIS is just plain crazy... what about kazaa??

Four reasons why the RIAA won a jury verdict of $220,000
Posted by Declan McCullagh
The Recording Industry Association of American got a chance on Thursday to show everyone just how heavy and intimidating the legal club of copyright law can be.

As my colleague Greg Sandoval wrote a few hours ago, a Minnesota woman named Jammie Thomas was sued by the RIAA for allegedly making available some 1,702 songs through the Kazaa network (though only 24 were at issue in the case). A federal jury sided with the RIAA and returned a verdict of $222,000.

it'll be interesting to watch him squirm about this:

Romney, Clinton health care plans similar-experts
Fri Oct 5, 2007 8:00am EDT By Jason Szep

BOSTON, Oct 5 (Reuters) - When it comes to health care, Republican Mitt Romney loves to take swipes at Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.

He calls Clinton's plan, which would require every American to have health insurance, "European-style socialized medicine" and derides it as inspired by "European bureaucracies."

Romney is quick to remind supporters of the U.S. senator from New York's dramatic 1993 failure to reform U.S. health care, which many Americans felt overstepped the role of first lady.

Despite all that, experts say Clinton's plan borrows heavily from one Romney signed into law when he was governor of Massachusetts, which made the liberal state the first in the United States with near-universal health insurance.

So PULEEZE just ignore these two, and maybe they will just slither back into the crypt.

You're so right. Because all the TPer's are running out and buying Coulter's new book. And immediately after I read it, I'm going to turn on Rush's radio show and consume whatever his advertisers tell me to. But if I chose ignorance instead....

Hmm.... Maybe this strategy will work with other social ills as well:

Rape victims. Simply ignore your rapist. Maybe he'll go away.
Climate Change. Sorry climate, if you keep changing I'm just going to have to buy a bigger air conditioner.
Afghanistan. Wait a second, we're already ignoring this one!

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has “closed the door to negotiations with President Bush on a vetoed children’s health bill.” “We’re not going to compromise,” Reid said. “If he’s hoping for that, he better hope for something else, like getting our troops home from Iraq.”

Eh, that's sort of maybe a little firm-ish. How about you say this instead:

"If Congress fails to override President Bush's veto, I will bring to the floor a resolution to evacuate Iraq within 30 days, and we will grind the Senate to a halt for as long as required to burn down any filibusters."

The techniques we use have been fully disclosed to some members of the United States Congress. - Bush, just now on torture.

Yes, and you also told us that you kept Congress informed of your warrantless wiretapping program.

Except, in reality, your definition of "Congress" was all of 8 members, who where also sworn to secrecy and had no power to question you or demand accountability from you.
