“More than a thousand Iraqis marched in west Baghdad on Saturday in a rare public demonstration to protest against a wall they say the U.S. military is planning to erect around their neighborhood. Carrying an Iraqi national flag and banners condemning the wall the marchers in the predominantly Shi’ite district of al-Washash chanted ‘No, no to the wall. No, no to America.’”
Funny how everyone wants us out of Iraq…except our administration.
So what do we do? We stay in Iraq.
The arrogance and avarice are breathtaking.
October 6th, 2007 at 2:25 pmWhat? No flowers?
October 6th, 2007 at 2:28 pmWhere are the marchers in our streets ? We had one big march before the invasion, we are all incensed but what are we doing about it . Marching changed a Jena, LA situation a week ago. When are we going to say, NO MORE to Bush and remove him?
October 6th, 2007 at 2:28 pmtexaslady sez:
Funny you should ask that…there was a march on D.C. just a few weeks ago…quite a few people were there.
What’s that? You didn’t hear about it in the MSM? Now isn’t that interesting?
October 6th, 2007 at 2:34 pmBush baby wants the OIL of Iraq, so he does NOT care anything about the Iraqi citizenry. He treats them like ants swarming, on the OIL, so he stomps on them.
October 6th, 2007 at 2:38 pmUS creating Baghdad Ghetto.
October 6th, 2007 at 2:39 pmA reporter friend of mine explained how it works, any pictures that are taken are done in a way to make it look like less people. Also, if there is a blip on the news the count is always under the actual.
Michael Moores website is pretty good at announcing upcoming protests.
Some of us parents were protesting the recruiters being allowed to office in the high school and set up tables everyday making friends with our teens. No one listened til we insisted on a meeting with the School Board, giving them a copy of the new law, which states recruiters can only be there when all career options were there. School Board kept saying they would lose funding which was BS.
Protest can work.
October 6th, 2007 at 2:47 pmBut that nice man Rich Lowry sez that these are just population control measures.
October 6th, 2007 at 2:49 pmSomething tells me I won’t be seeing this on the evening news.
October 6th, 2007 at 2:53 pmWhen you’re a xenophobe, you want to build a wall around everything.
October 6th, 2007 at 2:55 pmAnd look which part of the population he is talking about. Kids that need help paying for tuition. Documentary of a Young Republican meeting awhile back, interviewer asked of the war supporters who was signing up. Not one, some had asthma, some had a trick knee, some just felt they were “doing more here at home.”
October 6th, 2007 at 2:55 pmWhy are we still there? To a large degree I think it has simply come down to protecting Bush’s fragile ego. Bush is the ultimate coward, unable to face his failures.
October 6th, 2007 at 2:57 pmtexaslady sez:
Yup…if these protests are covered in the MSM at all, they report the attendance as anywhere from one-fifth to one-tenth of the actual number.
What’s interesting is that the Jena protests were accurately reported, but any objective reporting of the protests against this criminal junta that has hijacked our government are suppressed in this manner.
Add to that the increasing violence and thuggery of our own police in suppressing dissent, and suddenly, the moonbats that claim we’re living in an Orwellian police state don’t seem nearly as batty…
October 6th, 2007 at 2:58 pmVerbalKint sez:
That’s what this administration would like you to believe, but the simple truth is that this administration never planned to leave. Perpetual war in Iraq means justification for a permanent military presence in the M.E., as well as a permanent “state of war”, with all the enhanced Executive powers that are justified by it, here at home.

What, Blackwaterites didn’t mow them down?
October 6th, 2007 at 3:15 pm#8: Rich Lowry sez that these are just population control measures. – - Yeah, so was The Final Solution.
October 6th, 2007 at 3:16 pmIn spite of opposition from some in those neighborhoods, it has been proven that erecting these walls have reduced violence in those neighborhoods which have them.
When we leave, Iraqis are free to tear those walls down, but while we are there, we will do what’s practical to quell the violence, so that reconciliation can be completed.
In the news today is more progress towards reconciliation, so I expect we will depart in a few short years:

October 6th, 2007 at 3:30 pmI was driving my five-year-old to school some months back and listening to NPR when a story came on about building a wall between neighborhoods in Baghdad. Now, my son, he’s pretty knowledgeable about the war (as much as a five-year-old can comprehend it), and he asks:
“So, how are people ever going to stop fighting if you build a wall between them?”
From the mouth of babes….
October 6th, 2007 at 3:37 pm#19, Dr. Grumpus,
Another lie, just like the San Fran columnist who claimed her child was drawing anti-war pics with his/her crayolas – my ass.
No five-year-old could construct / conjugate a sentence like that, much less put together the concepts. No, that sentence comes only from those who have been over educated – indoctrinated – into a non-viable belief system that runs contrary to common sense.
October 6th, 2007 at 3:48 pmWhen we want the Iraqi’s input on running their g’damn country, BushCo will ask for it. Until then, just STFU.
Same as in this country.

Yeah, could well be true. I guess I’m just in denial that people can be so bad.

When ya think about the ramifications of building that enormous embassy compound, ya have to wonder. I’ve laso read and heard snippets about the US building 9 major, PERMANENT bases all over iraq too. Doesn’t sound like we intend to leave anytime soon.
Not quite sure how this will prevent the next 20 guys w/ boxcutters from trying something when they’re ready.
October 6th, 2007 at 4:01 pm#14 I think you are right, years ago reading about the PNAC, thought it was wishful thinking of a few wannabe kings. But, then we hear of alot of bases being built with huge recreation facilities, rent a cars etc. Why would a short term army need those. I think our military is going to be protecting the oil company workers. Reading on Salon we have more contractors over there than military, so makes sense our guys have to become rent a cops, that can get killed protecting the oil.
October 6th, 2007 at 4:02 pmMakes me wonder how much the Dems are being paid off to shut up and let it go down.
Have you heard the interview Erik Prince of Blackwater gave to our Congress ? Pretty good imitation of Bush’s attitude. How is it lying to the FBI is good for jail but lying to Congress and the public is no big deal.
I thought our “heroes” the Democrats in the Senate and House were going to end this madness. It turns out that a politician is a politician is a politician. None of the leading Democrats even have any plans of ending the war within their first term! That’s potentially four more years of war! When will we wake up?
The only candidate who will end the war, and most importantly prevent future unjustified and harmful wars, is Ron Paul. “We just marched in, we just come home.”
October 6th, 2007 at 4:04 pmI can’t believe the one thing Bush hasn’t touched is bringing back the draft. A “routine” run was done by the data bank with all the names of men and women of a certain age last year.
If he doesn’t care how he appears with a veto on SCHIP why not a draft. Recruiters would have a load taken off their shoulders.
What does he have to lose ? Congress would just nod and sign the Bill.
October 6th, 2007 at 4:10 pmDamned ingrates…/snark
October 6th, 2007 at 7:06 pmHow sad. We allegedly invaded Iraq as liberators, as Americans with a proud history of benevolence, and are now not only seen as, but actually are, an imperial occupying power . . . outsourcing lawless killing to mercenaries and corraling locals like cattle while we build a fortress.
Good Lord. . . time for a reality check.
Iraqi civilians are terrified of us with good reason.
We’ve got to clean our own house . . . oust the lobbyists, outlaw mercenary forces, oust Christian zealots from our three branches of government, adopt a no-tolerance policy towards corruption and restore the America for which our forefathers sacrificed their lives.
