This past July, Robert Greenwald’s Brave New Films released “Fox Attacks: The Environment.” The short film documented Fox News’ assault on global warming science. Watch it here.
In a new series billed by Fox News as the “Race for the Arctic,” the network has responded by sending a reporter to Greenland to document first-hand observations of glaciers receding, icebergs breaking off, and other drastic climate-changing effects.
But if you think that Fox’s “race for the arctic” is a race to educate and inform the public about global warming, you are mistaken. In fact, from Fox’s perspective, the “race” is actually a race for oil. Fox News reporter Jonathan Hunt explained:
The melting ice cap is making the Arctic’s resources much more accessible. Now that is vital. Because beneath the Arctic Ocean, scientists estimate there may be a full 25 percent of the world’s undiscovered oil reserves. There is now a race on to get to those reserves.
Watch it:
In its report, Fox News wasn’t quite willing to concede the science behind global warming. Hunt reported:
Whatever you think of global warming, most of the scientists say that is the cause of this. Other people insist that this is just a cyclical phenomenon. But one thing is absolutely clear: Whatever the cause, the effect is indisputable. The ice cap is melting.
There is no debate about what’s going on here. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change concluded in February that “global warming is ‘unequivocal’ and that human activity is the main driver, ‘very likely’ causing most of the rise in temperatures since 1950.”

October 8th, 2007 at 2:16 pmOh yes…let’s not worry about all that depressing famine, flooding, plague, severe weather, etc. The important thing is:we can get to some more oil!

It is a matter of utmost national interest that we occupy the arctic. The Arcticians would be able to hold all that oil over our head and disrupt our economy, which we all know, drives all of the economies all over the world, and must be preserved at all costs.

Ah — so Fox will only acknowledge the destruction of the planet when it’s a good thing.

Not a fan of Bill and I don’t care much for Medicare. I don’t need it. It should be for those that absolutely need it and not growing in the leaps and bounds our omnipotent government want it to. Oh, the sell “It’s for the children” but in reality it is just another way to have control over us.
If you make in excess of $35,000 and you are single and do not have kids. You should be able to afford health care.
If you single with children and make $40,000 and don’t have health care that is on you. If you cannot afford health care. Get deadbeat daddy to pay. Do not have any more children and get a better job. Get some skills. Get a better education.
It sounds harsh but it is called responsibility. I don’t mind helping those that help themselves, in fact, I do so most every day.
Now, I know there are those that did take responsibilty and fell on hard times. That is what government health care should be for yet at a state or local level. And if should be for those working to get back on their feet. Not for those lying down their whole life dragging the rest of us with them.
The “common good” should be we all contribute to the growth and prosperity of this country and not just those who excel and achieve have it taken away by “socialize programs” that people live in from one generation to the next.

First of all I do take my up issues with the White House especially with the huge amount of spending like a welfare recipient getting a Christmas bonus.
I am not in favor of illegals in this country taking jobs away from Americans because most American would not do “that job”1
Yet those jobs are magically filled every time by Americans when illegals are rounded up.
As far as the war, we were all told the same thing from Russian, British and United States intelligence. Also, approved by the President and majority of Congress-Libs and Dems. alike.
However, now that we slept in that bed of falsehoods we should at least make the bed before we leave. That would be the most responsible thing to do. And if this is not evidence enough we should not be allow any President from this day forward take any military action that would take longer than a week to execute without Congress declaring war. No ands, ifs or buts about it.
But (intended) whoever gets the White House next will never ever give up that power because that is all these career politician thrive on…POWER…how to have it, take it away from you, and how to keep control of that power.
Dems and Reps alike. There is no sacred cow in the federal government.
That is why we should not give up power to the government with all these ridiculous social programs that keep growing every year to accept more people into the fold and then scream, “it is for the children”. That is truly how the middle class is being taken away. It is my government, not corporations. Corporations need the middle class for their growth and prosperity but government does not.
two-income households where if they pay the mortgage they can’t afford the horrendously overpriced health care
If you cannot afford health care then you need to look at a smaller house. What is truly more important? The house with garage or you and yours health care. There are many different private and state run programs to help those that need it. Here, and as well as I am sure all around the country, you can find hospitals or clinics that give routine check ups and you pay between $35-$75 per visit without using your insurance. Therefore you can use your insurance when you need surgery or have a medical emergency which would allow to have a higher deductible therfore pay less monthly. Also, most hospitals will work out a payment plan until that deductible is met. Just ask. I had to a few years back. As long as you make a honest attempt at paying down your bill, most of the time, the hospital will work with you.

Its amazing that they cannot think thru the needs of society. Menial jobs are just as important, in many cases moreso, than the higher paying ones.
I say that since we live in a world where everything is based more and more on ergonomics and energy, we should pay people by the amount of energy [Calories] burned. Necessary Evil here would soon be broke and the street worker would not need medical assistance. Necessary evil would be the one crying for help when his lazy office bound self couldn’t afford to fix his cholesterol soaked heart.
October 8th, 2007 at 3:38 pm#49 Actually, a super predetor is what we are. A super predator is to advanced for its prey. In this case, we are super predator’s over every resource on earth. Since earth doesn’t have an effective defense to limit our “take” of it resources, we will take all its resources until they are gone. At that point extintion occurs for the Super predator unfortunetly. This experiment has been done over and over throughout history. Take that small island in the artic. They removed all the road blocks for the caribou by eliminating the wolves and bears. The caribou became a super predator over night “over the grass’ they ate”. Their numbers boomed. Guess what, their numbers also died when they ate themselves out of resources. This will happen with Humans as well unless the earth “evolves” quick enough to defend its resources.

This blind ideological worship of market forces will get us killed. We are nowhere near to any kind of breakthrough that can replace oil. The world will descend into chaos before scalable solutions can be found. People just don’t have any clue how much energy we are extracting from fossil fuels and how awesome the task will be to replace these fuels. Furthermore, we will need to build vast new infrastructure, which will actually accelerate the demand for energy during the crisis.

Even the most horrific potential scenario must seem of little consequence to the ruling “elite”, since wherever chaos and confusion might surface, new economic opportunities emerge for those who are prepared to take advantage of such a situation, in addition to newly opened avenues for seizing additional political power. Participation in bringing about such an event can greatly increase the odds of successfuly exploiting such an event for the maximum benefit of the perpetrator.

Global warming is good for Big Oil. Burn more oil, warm the globe up some more, more oil becomes accessible, more oil to burn. Oh, and yes, the world population gets reduced (floods, storms, disease, food shortages) so that the oil thats left lasts longer, and is burned at a lower rate, leading to global cooling.
