Atrios recalls President Bush using a 9-year old from Texas to stump for his Social Security privatization proposal. Also, Progress for America, a 527 ally of the Bush 2004 campaign, politicized “Ashley’s story,” the story of a young girl comforted by Bush because her mother was killed on 9/11. Watch the ad:

Clinton did it too.
October 9th, 2007 at 12:35 pmBush is accountable for the child’s mother having died.
October 9th, 2007 at 12:39 pmIt’s just Bush’s way of saying, “Don’t worry, I’m right behind you…using you as a shield.”

Well… not first. First comes the wealthy Americans that voted for him. Next is the big corporations that supported him. Then comes himself & his cronies. Somewhere after that he will toss some pennies to the poor while saddling them with the debt resulting from the money given to wealthy Americans, big corps, himself & cronies.

October 9th, 2007 at 12:45 pmI love it when the guy says, “What I saw is… what I want to see.”

IOKIYAR = “It’s OK if you’re a Republican”
Expect to see that a fair amount around here, as the Repubs employ a lot of double standards.
October 9th, 2007 at 12:46 pmAh. So true, so very true.
Thanks. ;o)

Do yourself a favor. Detail the amount spent by Bush on the war(s) going on & the amount spent on social programs you disagree with. Post your findings here & explain why you are not concerned with the war funding.

Also the sound many of us make when ever we get food poisoning, or hear Bush speak.
October 9th, 2007 at 12:50 pmI thought Rush was feigning anger over the Democrats making the kid lie, not that they used a kid.
October 9th, 2007 at 12:57 pmThis is hilarious. Bush caught in his own hipocrasy.
Anway, this does not change the fact that our bloated federal entitlement program is un-American. Social insecurity is just another one of those entitlement programs that is killing the bottom line for us hard working Americans who actually have jobs and are making a postitive contribution to society.

…and keeping millions of elderly americans from becoming homeless. But, never mind that, protecting you bottom line is more important.
October 9th, 2007 at 12:58 pmI’ll pay taxes for that. What I won’t pay taxes for are millions of parasites living off of the government dole, stuck in a cycle of generational poverty sustained by funds that are stolen from me.
Comment by ARealAmerican — October 9, 2007 @ 12:54 pm
But you aren’t paying taxes for that. Your foisting it off on your grandchildren. Are you saying you support the war tax proposed by Congressman Obey?

October 9th, 2007 at 1:01 pm#23-
Whoa. This war ain’t “free.” That whole deficit thing, and the cost of the war does actually does have to come from someplace.
Lowering taxes actually DOES NOT increase revenue.
October 9th, 2007 at 1:02 pmFighting wars is one of our federal government’s fundamental responsibilities. I’ll pay taxes for that.
Comment by ARealAmerican — October 9, 2007 @ 12:54 pm
Legitimate wars maybe. But wars whose sole basis is funding big corps & cronies? And if you’ll pay taxes for that then I assume you support a tax increase due to the spending increase. Why don’t you support the war by enlisting? Isn’t that a fundamental responsibility of an American? Never mind, you listen to Rush, I already know the answer.

I hear he claimed vanilla is a better flavor than chocolate, except for that, I’ve got nothing.
October 9th, 2007 at 1:03 pmI don’t know about you, but my elderly mother and father will never be homeless. Yet another concept that is lost on the socialists: taking care of your elderly parents. Nah, you’ll just pawn that off on the government too.
Comment by ARealAmerican
Your assuming alot about me personally aren’t you? I easily make enough money to take care of my parents, and intend to make sure they are always taken care of.
No… what I’m talking about is the millions of poor elderly who don’t have family to look after them.
So, I guess the concept lost on conservatives is that not everyone is in the same situation they or the people they know are in.
October 9th, 2007 at 1:09 pm#33-
Wait wait… what?
We’re talking about a trillion dollars here for the war, cut social programs for the war fund? Do you really think we spend that much on social programs in the country? The war fund that’s not yet paid technically? We’re talking about $700+ Million a DAY.
Well, at least your parents are ok.
October 9th, 2007 at 1:10 pmSomeone beat me to what I was going to say, but it bears repeating…
No disrespect to grieving husband Lynn Faulkner, but when he said “What I saw…was what I wanted to see,” I couldn’t help but think “Yeah, Bushism, in a nutshell.”

And the people who worked and paid into Social “Insecurity” didn’t have jobs and didn’t make a positive contribution to society?
Do you pay into SS? Do you expect to get SS benefits, or are you going to forward all of them to your local charity because you detest such a program?
October 9th, 2007 at 1:25 pmAbsolutely not. What I support is cutting the pork from the federal budget, letting the parasites whither on the vine, and then using the insane amount of taxes we already pay to fund the war.
Comment by ARealAmerican — October 9, 2007 @ 1:04 p
Bush asked for $200 BILLION dollars to fund the Iraq occupation for another year, which we are currently borrowing from other countries, like China. The problem with “borrow and spend” economics such as this is that not only will we eventually have to pay the loan back, but we are paying INTEREST on it until we do. Did you know that for the year 2006 we paid $408 BILLION dollars worth of interest on the national debt?
Interest on the debt is one of the “big four” expenses in the budget. Social Security, Department of Defense, and Department of Health and Human Services are the other three. These four expenses make up the lion’s share of where your “insane” amount of taxes goes.
Which brings me to your other point — letting “parasites wither on the vine” and funneling money that would have gone to entitlement programs over to defense. You’d have to take the money from HHS for this — since you can’t touch Social Security or interest on the debt. There are a few flaws with this idea.
You would have to gut HHS pretty deeply to get the $200 billion you need to fund the war. This would cause a great many “parasites” out withering on vines everywhere. Do you like the idea of a lot of people living homeless in the streets of your town? If you have no compassion for them, at least think of what it would do to your property values.
Now — about all these people out withering on vines. They are no longer contributing to the economy. Lost revenue will cause some businesses to fail, creating more people who have nothing. If you have difficulty envisioning this downward spiral, think of the Great Depression of the 1930’s.
And the children who will be left withering? Many will grow up with health problems caused by malnutrition and medical neglect. Instead of being healthy adults who can contribute to society, they will be sickly or disabled adults who will drain society (continuing the cycle).
It’s easy to say “let’s cut out entitlements”. Doing so generally creates more expensive problems in the long run. I will be interested in hearing how you plan to redo the budget where you successfully finance the war, and cut off entitlements without creating additional expenses.

Rush hurls the accusation of lying around a lot, but he rarely gives specifics, or explains why a talking point is a lie.
Spewing vague accusations works so much better for him — it creates the noise level he wants without having to come up with any evidence. Sort of like the trolls here.

Hey ARealAmerican
Social Security is not an entitlement you dipstick! It is paid for by the FICA tax. The problem is that our wonderful Congress pukes have been stealing the money that was paid into it. You need to eduacte yourself about entitlements.

October 9th, 2007 at 2:19 pmI predict that by January, Rush will attack the liberal media for breathing (which in their hypocrisy, hastens global warming).
To prove that they don’t 40% of liberals will die of asphyxia to appease the Repubs.
20% of liberals will point out that the Republicans breathe too.
The republicans will counter that Clinton did it first.
The next 6 months will feature attack ads showing their opponents breathing.
October 9th, 2007 at 2:25 pmI think the rude pundit sums it up nicely. They attack the Frost family, and make up this stuff, to avoid talking about the actual issue.

Exactly. If you are wrong on an issue and have no good arguement for your position, then find a way to change the subject.

October 9th, 2007 at 4:09 pmWell, as I pointed out yesterday (in the abstinence-only program thread), it’s perfectly acceptable to use children to promote your policies but it’s “politics” for someone else to use a child to promote theirs.
October 9th, 2007 at 4:10 pmThat’s the RepubliCON way.
Does Jake3988 (I’m guessing the 3988 means his registered troll number) not realize that MOST people get periodic pay raises so that the 10% will change?
October 9th, 2007 at 4:24 pmI’d also note that we’re already subject to a nice little 6.2% withholding for Social Security and 1.45% withholding for Medicare. Those rates were instituted as part of the Reagan tax cuts and, of course, currently those earning over $90,000 a year have no more than the 90K taxed (someone earning $100,000/year pays the SAME FICA/Medicare taxes as someone earning $250,000/year–$6,885 total).
