Yesterday, ThinkProgress noted the right wing has been orchestrating a coordinated effort to smear a 12 year old recipient of SCHIP. These conservatives have been propagating baseless “facts” to suggest that young Graeme Frost was actually a rich kid being pampered by the government.
Rush Limbaugh has joined in the smear campaign. On his radio show yesterday, Rush introduced his hit job on Graeme by saying, “I had some rudimentary information on this two weeks ago, and it wasn’t enough for me to trust going with. But since then, it has been verified, and most of it’s been verified by a ‘Freeper’ at Free Republic.” Apparently, a posting by a “freeper” is all Rush needs for confirmation.
Rush proceeded to recycle the myths that Graeme and his sister must be fat-cat recipients of government welfare because they attend “one of Baltimore’s expensive private schools” and own a house in a decent neighborhood. As we noted yesterday, Graeme has a scholarship to the private school. His sister’s tuition is covered by the state due to her brain injuries, and the house was purchased for $55,000 in 1991 when the neighborhood was not as safe as it is today.
Limbaugh then tried to draw a parallel between Graeme and his “phony soldiers” remark:
So the bottom line for me is: They can’t rely on truth to make their case for their cause. They have to lie. Be it about me, be it about their own voters (such as the Frosts) be it about President Bush, they must lie — and anybody who stands in the way of their succeeding with that lie becomes an enemy, becomes a target. That’s where I and my buddies in talk radio come in. We are a thorn in their side because we represent the truth they are trying to hide, the truth that they are lying about, and they have to do something about it — and they have to do that by lying. [...]
They send the kid out to lie. They filled this kid’s head with lies just as they have some of these soldiers about me. Put lies in the kid’s head or put it on the script that he’s reading. He goes out and reads it. He’s 12-years-old! They will use anybody! They’ll corrupt anybody, to get where they’re headed. That’s who they are, folks.

The real “bottom line” is: Rush propagates baseless information from a “freeper” to attack a 12-year old, fails to determine the facts for himself, and then accuses others of not being able to “rely on truth to make their case.”
When right-wingers attack soldiers who disagree with them on Iraq or kids who disagree with them on health care, that is indeed where Rush and his “hate radio” buddies “come in.” The right-wing attack machine personally assaults anyone for daring to disagree.

They broke down the barriers between the church and government. Yadda Yadda Yadda, and they have made all of this perfectly palatable to their supporters as well as getting all of it passed easily. You think that overturning abortion would have been an easy issue for them yet they never even tried. All this makes me believe 100% that they only keep the issue around for political purposes because if abbortion was illegal then many of those supporters would have no reason to support the right. It is all part of their market segmentation approach to gaining votes. After the votes are tallied they go right back to their regualr agenda though.

I think a psychiatrist familiar with Limbaugh's work could tell you that this is a classic case of projection. What Rush said is true, but of conservatives like him. They know that if they tell the whole truth (such as, for example, they want lower taxes because they are greedy and selfish) that they won;t win any arguments, so they resort to lies and falsehoods to win the day (such as cutting taxes for the wealthiest Americans will mean more jobs for the rest of us because the rich will have more money to invest, which supposedly creates jobs. Actually, they'll just keep most of what the government gives them back or pass it on to their grandchildren.)

I have to disagree with you. I believe that the #1 difference between the right and the left in this country is that while we all agree that the world is a dangerous place, the right believes that it always will be and that you must destroy those who diasagree with you, while the left believes that the world can be made a better place if we all just learn to drop our ignorant prejudices and actually learn the truth about one another. The right wants to tell you who you should fear, while the left wants to tell you who you should love. The right wants you to hide in a corner in fear, while the left wants you to come out and see for yourself what is happening. The big difference would have been that the government would have responded to Katrina in a manner similar to how they responded to the three Hurricanes that hit Florida (a battleground state) ion 2004 (an election year). But since Louisiana and NO are Democrat states we got the response we got. Many smaller companies can no longer offer their employees health care insurance at all, or they can offer a group plan where the employee pays 100% of the premiums themselves.
Like it or not, Americans are already paying for the health care of others. Not through taxes, but through higher prices for goods and services. When you buy a Ford Taurus, you are paying more for the health care of the Ford employees who made the car than you are paying for the steel that went into the car. And it will get worse.

That's your problem right there. This statement is so flawed as to almost be laughable. This country was not founded on the principle of "every man for himself", not by a long shot. Have you read the U.S. Constitution? It begins, "We the People...", not "We the Individuals Looking Out For Ourselves." If this country truly was about "every man for himself", then why would corporations bother to merge with one another? Why would people enter into contracts with each other? Are we talking about their actual performance? Their perceived performance or the performance scenario created by the rightwing punditry? Did they perform at the top of their game? Not at all, but at least they performed and tried to do their jobs. They made the effort. As to post Katrina...Umm I think you need to revisit what has happened there. But once again this distraction has nothing to do with the notion that the Republican party only uses abortion as a political tool and really has no concerns for the unborn or any living person other than themselves.

If this family had purchased a private health insurance policy for their children, they would be bankrupt by now. The only reason why they are not bankrupt is because they had a government-sponsored health care plan. How many people in this country with private insurance have been wiped out by medical bills. Recent statistics proved that over 40% of all bankruptcies are because of medical bills and most of the people who have to declare bankruptcy HAD A PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN.
So to all the Right Wing Moron Loons on this thread, is that what you would have wanted to happen to this family. Would it make you happy to see them lose their house and be bankrupted by the injuries their children sustained?

It's all public information as far as house value, school tuition, self-employment, etc. My husband is self-employed and for him insurance is expensive, but if hsi wife was his bookkeeper, it was not bad to insure her and get the family in through a back door. I used to work in insurance and I do not understand why the family's medical coverage on the auto did not cover the kids' injuries/hospitalization.
If they make 45K a year, where is in the income for two private school tuitions coming from? Are they on scholarship or paid? What about the other two kids? My husband is a cabinetmaker and that is a high end kitchen behind them. If they are using the term 'woodworker' to explain a cabinetmaker, there is a big money discrepancy there for income.

How? Having been in the boat with enormous medical bills due to an unexpected birth defect, once the health insurance tops out, you are automatically transferred to Medicaid. And most health insurance does not top out until at least a million..and that would be per child as it is per dependent. And again, why did the auto insurance not pick up at least part of the tab? Or did they not have auto insurance either? If they have absolutely no insurance whatever for anything, then these people are gamblers and taking risks with their kids, which is unconscionable. By agreeing to let their story be told (or at least part of it), then they have opened the door willingly to all this. I think the reporter should have asked more questions and more due diligence done.
And for those attacking one side or the other for partisanship, step back and stop using your emotions to look at it.

True journalism is somewhat of a lost art and it definitely gets watered down through specific media outlets. It's always a good idea to take a step back though, and most of these comments seem pretty emotional (which is understandable).
As far as government spending, I would rather it not (SCHIP or Iraq War). But if I HAD to choose, I would rather it go towards SCHIP. At least it stays in th US and doesn't go towards a bunch of scrap metal and body bags overseas..

2) His sister Gemma attends another private school to help her with the brain injuries that occurred due to her accident. The school costs $23,000 a year, but the state pays the entire cost.

His company, Frostworks, is located at 3701 E BALTIMORE ST. A building that was purchased for $160,000 in 1999…
…One has to wonder that if time and money can be found to remodel a home, send kids to exclusive private schools, purchase commercial property and run your own business… maybe money can be found for other things…maybe Dad should drop his woodworking hobby and get a real job that offers health insurance rather than making people like me (also with 4 kids in a 600sf smaller house and tuition $16,000 less per kid and no commercial property ownership) pay for it in my taxes.

So he is an army of one, so to speak. What is easier to DESTROY than an army with only one member? His attitude is EXACTLY what the righties want YOU to think. Their divide and conquer tactics over the last 27 years have been very effective. They have even succeded in turning Americans against each other, and in some cases, against themselves.
We are all an island unto ourselves, then? So which ONE of us was it that built the roads? Which ONE of us was it who built the brideges? Or the dams? Which ONE of us did all that? I'd sure like to thank that ONE individual. He or she did a hell of a job. Oh, and I'll bet that "a real American spends all his time filling potholes in HIS OWN roads, since he is a solo act all the way around.
It is NOT dog eat dog that made this a great nation. It was cooperation BETWEEN and AMONGST Americans that made us a great country. It was the fact that for the first time, a gov't was OF US. NOT of YOU. It was cooperation that made us the greatest industrial country in the world until Reagan came along and switched us from DEMAND side economics to SUPPLY side economics. I suspect that "a real American NEVER lived under anything but Reaganomics, and was taught the foolishness of it as a Godsend. It's nothing of the sort. It's stupid, it's foolish, and it's resulted in the destruction of the middle class, the destruction of the manufacturing sector in the country, and the bankrupting of the ENTIRE government. We will never be able to pay off a 10 TRILLION dollar debt, and it's just not fair to saddle future generations with the stupidity of a man who STOLE two elections through illegal tactics, lying and outright collusion and corruption. It's not appropriate for ANY American to look at this and say that things are going well. With the largest debt that any country has EVER seen, your economy is NOT doing well at all. If you have to borrow from generations unborn to finance things, then perhaps it's time to rethink your plans in the first place.

Also the parents purchased the house for $55K in 1991 (thats less than $400 a month) and it has appreciated to $500-$600K like the other homes in the area, I don't see how they should qualify for government assistance? With the income of both parents and the scholarships the 12 year old boy is receiving for schooling they should have plenty of money.
