Ezra Klein challenges Malkin to an SCHIP debate.
Responding to conservative columnist Michelle Malkin’s hyperbolic claim that “militant leftist bloggers” don’t want to have “a good-faith argument” about SCHIP, Ezra Klein takes the bait and challenges Malkin to a “good faith” debate on the issue:
Let’s have a good faith argument. I will debate Michelle Malkin anytime, anywhere, in any forum (save HotAir TV, which she controls), on the particulars of S-CHIP. We can set the debate at a think tank, on BloggingHeads, over IM. Hell, we can set up the podiums in the shrubbery outside my house, since that seems to be the sort of venue she naturally seeks out. And then if Malkin wants an argument, she can have one. We’ll talk S-CHIP and nothing but — nothing of the Frosts, or Congress, or her blog.
Will Malkin accept or will she run and hide?

The next time either of them has a new book coming out, I expect that this match will be scheduled. You see, in a debate, you have RULES and STANDARDS, both of which have been abandoned years ago. In a debate, you have a winner and a loser. But you see there is no point in engaging in a debate with any 30-Percenters. One of the main tenets of their political strategy is to never admit defeat so in their own minds, they can never lose. So entering a debate with one of them means you can’t win. Totally pointless.

We don’t really care about the rightwing “investigation” into the motivations and authenticity of this kid and his family. That has absolutely nothing to do with how we feel about the program. I don’t care what car they drive or how much money they make or who put them up to it. It doesn’t matter to us because we support the idea behind the program. Every time you complain about the cost of the program or how not-so-poor people could receive benefits, I have 9 BILLION comebacks for you. That would be the missing dollars that Bush and Bremer shipped over to Iraq that inexplicably has disappeared. Don’t try to pass yourselves off as some kind of watchdogs or ombudsmen of the taxpayers’ money all of a sudden. It’s 100% disingenuous.

Will she ignore the request? Will she say she’s not going to accept a debate where someone else sets the rules (ala “no hotair TV”)? Will she pretend to take the “high road,” and claim this issue is no longer worth talking about and why won’t the libs just let it go since they know they’re wrong? Or will she take it to the same sort of screechy harpy extremes she normally takes when she finds something offensive - post Ezra’s address online, point out where his family lives, and let the Freepers loose to do their damage?
