ThinkFast: October 10, 2007

“Federal investigators are hinting that a fresh wave of campaign-related theft and corruption investigations of Members of Congress are moving through the pipeline, signaling that indictments may be on the horizon.”

Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman (I-CT) has shown “relatively little interest” in investigating contracting abuses this year. Preferring to focus on “homeland security” issues instead, Lieberman responded, “You’ve got to set your own priorities.

During last night’s CNBC Republican debate, moderator Chris Matthews asked Mitt Romney whether he would get congressional approval “to take military action against Iran.” Romney replied that he would let his lawyers figure it out: “You sit down with your attorneys and tell you what you have to do.”

For the first time, “a federal judge barred the Bush administration from sending a Guantanamo detainee to his home country, where he claims he would face torture.”

Responding to smears and intrusions into her family’s private life by conservatives, Bonnie Frost, whose 12-year old son Graeme recently delivered a radio address supporting SCHIP expansion, said, “We stood up in the first place because S-chip really helped our family and we wanted to help other families.”

At least 12 racial incidents have been reported across the country since the case of the “Jena Six.” Echoing the nooses hung on a tree by white students that raised tensions in Jena, “most of the dozen occurrences in the past two months involved a noose left anonymously at a school or workplace.” Yesterday, a noose was found on a professor’s door at Columbia University.

21: Number of countries, including the United States, who still belong to the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq. Forty-nine nations were originally part of the coalition.

“The opening of the mammoth new U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has been delayed indefinitely while its Kuwaiti contractor fixes a punch list of problems.” The embassy “was set to open last month but U.S. lawmakers say shoddy work by the contractor and poor oversight by the State Department have delayed it.”

And finally: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has some new neighbors. Anti-Bush protesters have “engaged in decidedly non-neighborly behavior like hanging their clothes from the trees; moving in sofas, chairs and other ‘permanent living facilities’; and, oddly, building a large Buddha on the sidewalk in front of her home.” “You can just imagine my neighbors’ reactions to all of this,” she said.

What did we miss? Let us know in the comments section.

Just remember, folks, the Justice Department is still staffed with “Loyal Bushies.” One of Rove’s favorite tactics was to reveal official “investigations” of political opponents right before an election.

“Romney replied that he would let his lawyers figure it out”

Hmmm — wonder if that’s how he would handle all his decisions. Let the lawyers be the deciders.

Oh well — can’t be as bad as allowing Cheney and Rove to make them all.

Typical of members of the lucky sperm club. Force fed by a silver spoon, Mitt wasn’t raised to make decisions logically, he and the other R candidates are used to accessing lawyers to make decisions for them.

Watching these jokers ‘debate’ is like watching paint dry…Thompson’s already on his second coat. Not only are they boring, they lie a lot.

  7. BearCountry says:

The Frost family stepped up to give support to a program that the big dims claim is important. So what happen? As soon as the rethugs attack the big dims have nothing to say in support of the family, as far as I can tell. If any of the Presidential candidates have said anything, it hasn’t been reported. It just seems the dims are caving on every front. It looks as if KKKarl was right; the rethugs actually did retain control of the Congress in the election of 2006.

  8. upside99 says:

I wonder if some of those 9 Repugs that said they weren’t running again because of the 5 day work week are really worried about the new allegations.

And isn’t it interesting that none of the 9 were Dems?

See? We’re fair! We give ourselves the same crappy construction we’ve put into various Iraqi “rebuilding” projects.

  10. missmolly says:

Is this Pelosi’s home in California? Or in DC? It would seem rather pointless to protest at her home in California, since she’s not there that often (unless this is on a weekend). And what’s with the Buddha?

Many communities have ordinances banning protests at private homes because of the nuisance they create for neighbors. I support this. If it was my neighborhood, I would feel very annoyed with any picketing, sit-ins, deposits of furniture or the like, etc. at the residence of one of my neighbors — no matter HOW much I agreed with their cause.

  11. BearCountry says:

It looks as if mittens has already started to explain how any mistakes occurring if he gets in power will certainly not be his fault. Gather the lawyers to make the decisions. If they are wrong, well, he is in the clear.

Romney on War: “You sit down with your attorneys and tell you what you have to do.”

  18. bilbobaggins says:

Yes its ok to protest down at the rednecks ranch. Those protesters wernt even allowed within miles of dumbyas property. I’m proud to say I was a small part of the lawsuit that tried to get the protestors as close as possible.

“We stood up in the first place because S-chip really helped our family and we wanted to help other families.”

I feel so much compassion for this poor family. Michelle Malkin published their address and phone number on her website. If someone in this family is hurt or heaven forbid killed by the wackos who are MM fans, then I think that Ms. Malkin will be finding herself in a lot of hot water. I hope that some sleuth out there can find out Ms. Malkins new address and phone number and publishes it for the world to see. That would be fitting justice.

  27. missmolly says:

But, it’s O.K. to protest in Crawford, TX?

    Comment by Jake D. — October 10, 2007 @ 9:21 am

I don’t know. Is there a local ordinance against it? I think Cindy Sheehan got around that problem by buying some property adjacent to the ranch and doing her protesting there (which basically amounted to parking herself on her little strip of land and waiting).

I understand her protest attracted a lot of visitors and media attention, which, if it had been in an urban or suburban neighborhood with neighbors close by, would have created quite a nuisance for them. But this was in a rural area.

I heard she had that property up for sale. Wonder if she ever sold it?

All those Right Wing Loons are going to need an outlet for all the hate they will be feeling once they are made powerless. And they will need an outlet for that hate. I suspect that outlet is going to be blacks, gays and immigrants.

What’s puzzling is that they need an outlet for all their hate whether they’re in power or not. Even when they had the White House, both houses of Congress, and a lock on the Supreme Court, their message was still all about how the “liberals” were ruining the country and all of America’s ills were their fault.

As long as there is a Democrat alive in the country anywhere, they will always be looking for an outlet for their hatred.

A Turkish incursion is fiercely opposed by Washington since it would immensely complicate the US campaign in Iraq and upset the only stable part of Iraq: the Kurdish-controlled north….The Turkish media described the toll from the attacks as the worst in 12 years in a conflict spanning several decades that has taken almost 40,000 lives….Two Turkish soldiers were killed yesterday in booby trap explosions laid by guerrillas of the Kurdistan Workers’ party (PKK) – fighters classified as terrorists by Ankara, Washington and the European Union. ”

  60. Veritas says:

On another note – the GOP lineup yesterday was frightfully boring. There is not one single candidate who knows anything about the economy, with the exception of Ron Paul. They did their best to limit Paul’s contributions to the debate which was obvious and besmerched those hosting the debate in general. They might have a viable candidate if they took one portion of EACH candidate and consolidated them all into one package; however, this was a very unintelligent showing for one claiming to have the qualifications for leading this country.

It was clear that the “main talking point” which was spoon-fed by the GOP was the focus on “optimism” – something which is in short supply these days thanks to the daily outing of corruption of the Bush Administration and it’s propagandist arm, the GOP.

Rudy looked abysmally out of touch with anything resembling fiscal reality; Mitt, once again, resembled an actor more than Fred Thompson did or a snake oil salesman; Freddie T. was obviously shaken, nervous and totally out of his element entirely. In fact, when he was handed the question on the dollar, one commentator said he looked like he’d just been handed a dead chicken. His answer was nothing short of moronic. And then there was McInsane who doesn’t know a dollar from shinola. Unless the topic is national security, McInsane is out to lunch. Clearly, after viewing this cavalcade of buffoonery yesterday, the GOP is in very serious trouble.

Songbird Abramoff and Songbird Cunningham are singing their lungs out and will take down a few more GOPerverts and Crooks next week from the sound of it. I can’t imagine how the GOP will even be able to run a serious campaign at this point. No one wants to listen to a known group of criminals any longer.

The juicy details of these indictments should hit the fan just in time for the weekend talking heads.

This is because you have a conscience. And you were probably brought up properly.

People who spend their time p!ssing people off (especially if that’s their job) have basically sold their soul for their notoriety and they no longer care. They sleep very well. Even if they DID still have some conscience left, they get around that by convincing themselves that the people they are p!ssing off are basically lower forms of life and therefore don’t matter.

    Not likely.

Above any other icon of religion, the Buddha is recognized as representative of peace and harmony.

Christ on the cross is clearly an image of brutality, torture, and death.

And Heaven forbid anyone put up an image of Mohammed, cause you know what will happen then…
