Blackwater sued in U.S. court over Baghdad shooting.

The Center for Constitutional Rights is filing a lawsuit today against Blackwater USA in Washington D.C. federal district court under the Alien Tort Claims Act on behalf of the families of three of the Iraqis killed, as well as another Iraqi who was injured. Michael Ratner of the Center for Constitutional Rights said:

Blackwater’s repeated and consistent failure to act in accord with the law of war, U.S. law, and international law harms our nation and it harms Iraq. For the good of both nations, as well as for countless innocent civilians, the company cannot be allowed to continue operating extra-legally, providing mercenaries who flout all kinds of law. This lawsuit, like the ongoing U.S. and Iraqi government investigations, cannot bring back those killed at Nisoor Square but it can make Blackwater accountable for its actions.

Sorry. Executive privilege. State secrets. They’ll come up with something.

  2. Wayne A. Schneider says:

There was never any legitimate reason (note the word “legitimate”) to hire Blackwater (or any other private contractor for security work) in the first place. The United States Marine Corps has done an outstanding job of protecting our government personnel overseas, and they’ve done it with dignity, class, and a sense of honor no hired contractor doing it for the money could ever surpass.

Those that deserve to be punished should be, and they should not be allowed to hide behind (what may be) an illegal order that they not be held accountable under law. By what right did the outgoing CPA declare these people unaccountable to anyone’s laws?

Because it stands between them and an Imperial Presidency, which Dick Cheney has been working to achieve ever since he thought Nixon got a raw deal over Watergate. The man is seriously un-American.

  7. upside99 says:

Why would this suit have any traction when the Nazi SS Corps had free reign during WWII? Darth has patterned this group after them and the French Foreign Legion.

Gotta love the Reich Wing for following all the success of Nazi Germany!

  8. Candyce says:

I keep picturing Prince’s smug little smile in the hearing last week, knowing he’s untouchable. A real smart aleck.

With reports that State might be getting rid of Blackwater and now this suit, I wonder if he’s still smiling.

  9. Buckie Boy says:

While you’re at it sue the Liar-in-Chief & Darth Cheney, those are the heads of this criminal fascist mafia in charge of all the death and carnage in Iraq.

Blackwater should be held accountable after the investigation. Currently, we don’t even now the facts. Sueing them now is only an emotional arguement based on nothing. If no one had a weapon and Blackwater fired into them anyways, they deserve serious punishment. If there were Iraqi’s with weapons, this could easily be self defense. I say let this play out first. We need to prove them guilty with facts which hasn’t been done yet.

  11. Shayne says:

Sure Roger, Blackwater is just misunderstood. This thread is about a Blackwater being SUED not about executing Prince summarily. If you can’t stomache a discussion about it why don’t you take yourself down the road.

Blackwater, and any other government contractor, should be held accountable from the very start.
If an investigation deems they have violated laws, they should be punished.
    Accountability should be a given.
Guess you hadn’t heard that one, eh Roger?

  13. Shayne says:

Thanks TP. Of course now I look crazy arguing with RogerX2 when he’s not here, but it’s worth it.

They’ll have to reserve an outbuilding at the Paraguay ranch for Prince.

Cheney may have been working on it since Nixon, but the original roots of these neoconsnazis can be traced to Prescott Bush and his direct support of Nazi Germany as well as his now uncovered plot to overthrow FDR and the Government for the Nazi cause.

You mean there’s still a judge left in any federal court not bought and paid for by Bushco?

  17. Chocolate Jesus says:

hooray.. this should be interesting.. but it wont be quick….probably 2-3 years before we even know whether it goes to trial..
