Gibson: Whites commit suicide, blacks ’shoot and move on.’»

A student in Cleveland yesterday shot four people at a high school before killing himself. On his radio show that day, Fox News’s John Gibson claimed that he “could tell right away” that the shooter was white:

He killed himself. Hip-hoppers do not kill themselves. They walk away. Now, I didn’t need to hear the kid was white with blond hair. Once he’d shot himself in the head, no hip-hopper. […]

And I could tell right away ’cause he killed himself. Black shooters don’t do that; they shoot and move on.

Listen to the segment here.

Okay, so John Gibson is a racist and flaunts that fact on television. Nothing new there.

  6. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

Well, it looks like Gibbie wants to add to his collection of “Worst Person in the World” medals. I predict he will share the podium tonight with Coultergeist (”perfected Christians” remark) and Bush (renegging on supporting declaration of murders of Armenians after WWI as “genocide”.) Hard to guess what order they’ll be in.

  9. Mark @ News Corpse Says:

John Gibson is jealous of all the attention Bill O’Reilly got for being a racist, so he did what he had to do.

I still think O’Reilly is the one we have to keep an eye on. He is about to abandon sanity for good:

  12. Marie Says:

Ha ha — I agree, Wayne.
Gibson is remarkably racist and bigoted.
I don’t understand why these people remain in the air, except that they appeal to the least common denominators of society. Ann Coulter is an anti-semite; if anyone had any doubt — even her rightwing supporters may have trouble justifying her latest remarks.
And, by Semite, I mean the entire semitic peoples of the world, which includes Jews, Arabs and others in the region.
A true christian would be ashamed of her representation of their creed.

Did you read the Media Matters article to go with it? The context shows it was blatantly racist from the beginning. Of course, “racist” is a pretty charged word, and racism can be found in and on many levels. But, IMHO, Gibbie’s remarks (in context) were more racist than O’Reilly’s comments about Sylvia’s, but the racism is clearly there.

    This was definitely racist.

But I do concur on the “astonishingly tasteless and blatantly stupid” part.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic. Yes, it is racist, but it’s even more stupid and tasteless. I agree- Gibosn is one of the biggest horse’s asses on Fox. I have no idea why ANYONE takes this guy seriously. He and Glen Beck are like the “Twins From Hell”. Racist? yeah… and astonishingly stupid and blatantly tasteless too!

I read about a murder-suicide almost every day somewhere in the US. It often follows domestic problems. Every time I think to myself: “further proof the death penalty is NOT a deterrent. They chose the death penalty for themselves because they did not want to live any longer. They certainly did not want to live another fifty years in a tiny prison cell!”.

  36. Keith Says:

How does Gibson feel about any American having easy access to any number of military-style assault weapons?

My best friend between the age of 15 and 23 (Wayne LaPierre head of today’s N.R.A.) always said how much he hated “gun nuts”.

He lies about where he went to university to hide his left-wing activity at S.U.N.Y.-Albany. He got out of ‘Nam by falsely claiming a nervous condition.

“Well, you see, your average run of the mill pickaninny who shoots up his school is too cowardly to shoot himself. He just drops his nine and jumps into his hooptie before five oh be arriving.”

    “Racist? Me?”

Actually, Columbine-type killers are almost EXCLUSIVELY young white men. I read a book written by one of the first FBI profilers, “Inside a Killer’s Mind”??? He talked about the difference between spree killers - Charlie Starkweather, serial killers - Gacey, and mass murderers - Richard Speck, I think, amongst other things.

The Columbine type? Almost EXCLUSIVELY young white males.

  63. amandla Says:

I don’t think Gibson realizes that “hip-hoppers” are just as likely to be white than black, judging from who’s buying the music and copping the clothing styles. Gibson and other Fox news personalities make these sort of comments regularly in order to drive home the fact that they are anti-PC, that they will speak their minds, etc. They enjoy the notoriety it brings them (the people at Fox love the attention), and they don’t care one bit about any backlash from upset Black people (and why should they?).

The problem with deliberately trying to be super anti-PC is that it reveals a lot of the ignorance lurking beneath the veil of self-censorship. Gibson’s use of “hip-hoppers” for “Black” shows how ignorant he is not only of Black people, but of hip-hop/R&B-loving white people as well (whom, as I said, are by far the biggest consumers of hip hop).

Some people are too dumb to be embarassed by their own ignorance…

  72. Jason M. Hendler Says:

Racism aside, Gibson’s default assumption doesn’t hold up anymore:

    1) the Atlanta killings were done by a black man, who was free to keep killing, because police and the media told everyone to look for a white man.

    2) the snipers that killed so many around DC were both black, and again, they alluded police for a good while, because everyone was looking for a white man.

    3) OJ nearly killed himself before being taken into custody (or that’s what news reports stated at the time of his arrest).

If you want evidence of the slow assimulation of blacks into mainstream society, you only need to look at the slow increase in mass / serial killers that are black.

  73. Vincennes Says:

Zooey, I know Jefferson Davis is still big with the Republican base today.
    Comment by Keith — October 11, 2007 @ 9:50 pm

Why would Republicans support a traitor to the United States of America? Why would anyone show honor or loyalty to the Confederacy? If you do, then you must hate the United States of America. No joke. However misguided the Confederates were, they were traitors.

  74. BrianFL Says:

I find most of the diehard Republicans I know even in my personal life are racists.

Gibson has made racist comments in the past, so this latest does not surprise me at all. In fact, if you look at ALL the most popular right-wing pundits, from Rush Limbaugh, to Bill O’Reilly, to Ann Coulter, to Michelle Malkin, to Michael Savage, to Glenn Beck, to Tucker Carlson. They’ve all made not only racist comments, but sometimes outright violent comments about other races, ethnicities, or sexual orientations. Malkin and Limbaugh seem especially obsessed with race.

The Bush administration came to power by suppressing African-American votes, most notably in Florida and Ohio.

  75. The Shadow Says:

I knew that most if not all of the Fox News anchors were racist, but I never thought Gibson would be stupid enough to admit it. This guy belongs to the Ku Klux Klan and he’s proud of it. Ruppard Murdock makes sure that his so called journalist spread as much hate as they can, so he can start a race war and then take over the country.

John Gibson just said what Sean Hannity and the other racists like Brit Hume, Tony Snow, Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and Michelle Milken wanted to say. These people are a perfect example of what Republicans stand for. They are the party of hate, the party of extremist, and the party who intends to establish a new NAZI system of government in the United States.

Why else would a group of highly paid millionaires speak such blantantly racist things. At least skinny Ann Coulter hates white liberals as much as he hates blacks. The only blacks they can stand are uncle Toms like Clarence Thomas and Aunt Jamamia like Condelessa Rice. That’s because the can’t laugh at them behind their backs and tell racist jokes to them to their face.

  76. sluggo Says:

I wonder if “Ethnic Cleansing” starts this way.

Black against White, Gay against Straight, Conservatives against Liberals.

Preach hatred as Gibson does long enough and we may find ourselves in just such a condition.

When an Advertiser supports Gibson’s show you wonder how “Honest” the company is that wants us to watch Gibson and then buy their advertised stuff.

    Sure I will…..

  77. Jim Says:

John Gibson has been making racist comments like this for years. No big surprises here. He continues to have a job because the people he works for, and his primary audience, are also racist. For them, it’s somehow courageous and virtuous to say these “un-PC”–i.e. racist–things.

  78. Beyonce Welch Says:

Mr Gibson is to be pitied. So many of the right wing seem to be soulless.

  79. ckerst Says:

    Gibson should take up shooting.
