‘Three people’ in Cheney’s office tried to silence Matthews.

Last week, Chris Matthews revealed that officials in Vice President Cheney’s office have repeatedly called MSNBC in an effort to influence his editorial content. In a new interview with TV Guide, Matthews gives more details on the suppression campaign:

I thought on the 10th anniversary it would be good to celebrate the First Amendment, which gives us all our living. We reviewed in brief the remarkable experience of covering the Clinton [scandal] and the defense of the war with Iraq. And the difference in these two cases was that although I was extremely tough on Clinton, there was never any attempt to silence me — whereas there was a concerted effort by [Vice President Cheney's office] to silence me. It came in the form of three different people calling trying to quiet me.

UH OH, Chris, better not go on any hunting trips with Darth and his drunken shotgun! Or you might end up with a face only good for radio, like limpball’s and Malkin’s.

Well, the “but Clinton did it to” defense won’t work on this thread.

  3. Leftside Annie says:

Heh – he’s damned lucky Darth didn’t summarily haul him off to Gitmo for some …water sports.

I bet we will see it anyway. The lack of cogent and logical thinking is rampant in our trolls.

Or shoot him in the face!

Cheney will send a Blackwater hit man to take out Matthews. Dead men tell no tales.

It might in about a year or so….

Preemptive obsequious troll strike in the WOT:

“Well, it is obvious that Chris Matthews is a islamofascist, hippie, pinko-commie, liberal who hates America.”

Just thought I would get that out of the way.

  9. Theresa says:

True upside. We must consider their (lack of) reading comprehension skills.

  10. Leftside Annie says:

8 – Thank you, j swift – your comment made me laugh out loud.

*And* snort soup up my nose. :oD

Chris is trying to save his job now he’ll say anything.
He has Cheney’s permission to spread this around in hopes of bringing up his rating. Chris spoon feed his heart Fred the questions that an elderly old man can understand and remember. Chris knows he’s in the back pocket of the GOP. He forgets about how he was on the campaign funding raising for the GOP. Now we are to believe he’s fair/balanced. I don’t think even the Executives at NBC could buy this lie. Katie tried her best to sell the story she was forced that didn’t fly either. Chris has been beating the drums for the GOP since he started his show and that was a reward for him for doing such a great job at bashing Bill Clinton and telling voters to vote for Bush while Matthews only had a cable show. It pays to be a Bushie as Chris moved from a lowly cable show to NBC Prime time. Looks like NBC is a supporter of the White House and prides itself in getting as many corrupt GOP Journalist as possible.

At lease Americans know why all the stories on the News Stations are false.

  12. Serenity Now says:

What I heard yesterday is that Comcast Cable is moving MSNBC out it’s standard channel listings and into the premium service. Meaning Matthews, Keith, and the rest will now only be available if you pay extra to get MSNBC. I am willing to bet that Cheney and Comcast had a little pow wow and decided to ’silence’ Matthews anyway.

  13. Buckie Boy says:

Cheney trying to silence the Press, say it isn’t so. Cheney is a Fascist War Criminal and Chris should point that out everytime he is on the tube.

    Buck Fush

  14. NoOneYouKnow says:

Matthews is making himself out to be some kind of bane of Bushco, when all along he’s been one of its loudest cheerleaders. Guess he can sense which way the wind’s blowing too.

    .

Why does Cheney’s office staff hate free speech?

Sieg Heil to the Cheneyenfuhrer, the Bushenfuhrer and all the little Fuhrers: Riceenfuhrer, Danaenfuhrer, Rumsenfuhrer ad nauseum en finiteum.

When gold rules, silence is golden…

  18. Veritas says:

Come on, Chris, out with it all. I guess that’s when Matthews began speaking the truth instead of pandering to the fascists??

  19. AngryOne says:

If Matthews’ claims that “they will not silence me” ring a little hollow, they should. After all, Chris Matthews has spent the last several years telling us that President Bush, his White House and the Republican leadership team are “good guys.”

For the history of Matthews’ praise for the good guys of the GOP, see:
“Chris Matthews: Bush White House ‘Good Guys’ Won’t Silence Me.”

  22. Beyonce Welch says:

If Comcast moves MSNBC to a Premium Level that move may be more related to Olbermann than Matthews.

‘Three people’ in Cheney’s office tried to silence Matthews.

I must admit, I too have tried to silence Matthews. Numerous times.

I turned off the TV. It worked like a charm.

Left or right, I think we can all agree on one thing: Chris matthews is a dullard and a suck-up.

  26. Leftside Annie says:

Ohhhhhh, Koko – LOL — this time it was *water* — but you got me. ;o)

  27. Mark @ News Corpse says:

    An interview with TV Guide?

You know who owns TV Guide? Rupert …. something

And Rupert’s own magazine affirms that Fox News is NOT news.
    (Graphic evidence at this link)

  28. Wayne A. Schneider says:

I have Comcast cable service, and MSNBC is already in a separate package from “regular cable” (along with Headline News and other cable news channels). I find it hard to believe that they would move it again.

And if anyone from the veep’s office tried to deny this, Matthews should just name names and challenge them to deny it under oath. That will shut them up, and point the finger of suspicion should anything happen to Matthews or his show. (Besides, Tucker Carlson is more likely to be gone next than Matthews, due to abysmal ratings.)

  29. celtic cynic says:

So, why has Matthew’s waited ’til now to reveal this?
Was he waiting for his book to come out or the TeeVee Guide on the newsstands?

  30. wisedup says:

Oh Tweety, I silenced you a long time ago with my TV remote.

  31. drtichy says:

It’s a mistake to think that this administration defends or cares for freedom. This is a regime of tough manipulation, trying to make sure their criminal acts agains humanity continue – as long as there is oil coming into their pockets.

  32. williamf says:

Freedom is our legacy. During the period of 1776-1783 our ancestors fought the British for it. My 5th Great Grandfather put his life on the line then in the 3rd Connecticut Regiment. Thousands of others put their lives on the line too. They suffered terrible conditions away from their loved ones and so many were maimed and killed. But…they began this democratic experiment. Eventually the Constitution came about and it guaranteed certain rights including free speech and free press. All made possible by the sacrifice of noble warriors fighting a noble cause. In recent years a malicious attempt has been made by Cheney, Bush, Gonzales and others to destroy what has been paid for in blood. These are people who have never known the heat of battle or who have never sacrificed anything other than shares on the stock market. They…have not paid a price so they have no idea, despite their words, what has been done to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution. They believe the Constitution is just a piece of paper and they sit back and act like kings. Trying to shut Matthews up is quite in character. Having people arrested for message t-shirts or speaking their piece in public is what these people and their little Nazis do. But they must never, never, never, see us sweat. Backing down to these criminals is a big mistake as the German people discovered in WWII. We have to save our freedom, the beloved freedom my 5th Great Grandfather fought for. They can’t stop Matthews but Matthews can stop himself. He has to continue on. We do too. Don’t let the bottom feeders snuff our freedom or make us shut up.
