Oh, I see. It’s warmer because of global warming. It’s cooler because of global warming.
Comment by muckdog — October 12, 2007 @ 11:48 am

Global warming causes weather patterns to fall out of balance, therefore causing bigger changes in temperatures all over the place.

Warm air doesn't circulate as it did, and doesn't warm cold areas anymore: ergo, colder winters. Cold air doesn't circulate as well, and therefore isn't cooling hot areas anymore: ergo, warmer summers.

That's a quick "Weather for dummies" answer; for more information, Google is your friend.

Oh, I see. It's warmer because of global warming. It's cooler because of global warming. Yankees lose, Rockies win, Brad Miller in cornrows? Global warming.

Heating, cooling, used cars, new cars.

We can only hope that Al Gore runs and wins the Presidency. Then he will be unable to hide from global warming debate.

muckdog
Weird that you think followers of those you disagree with are cultish.
I would say the same for anybody still arguing against the fact of global warming.
A cult requires it's members to believe absurdities on faith and junk science.

I had just watched a Naked Science show that featured the loss of ice shelves Larsen A and B... and explored the degradation of ice elsewhere in Antarctica. Not trusting just one source, I then searched the internet.

It seems that if the south pole ice gets thicker that too is because of global warming... more snow.
At any rate science is still collating on the subject. It's interesting reading.

Good article about the debate: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/category/story.cfm?c_id=26&objectid=10421304

Hi Exley nice to see you back, nitpicking but entertaining as usual!

Muckdog, I didnt see on that page where this "fact" supports your scientific conclusion that global warming isnt real. Whats your scientific background?

You know even fox news is admitting its happening now, and saying its a good thing?

DuckMog, let's show the folks the whole picture.
http://pubs.acs.org/subscribe/journals/esthag-w/2002/jan/science/ws_antarctic.html

Indeed, over the past few decades, average global temperatures have been rising, by 0.19 °C per decade, but this rise has not occurred everywhere. One important exception appears to be in Antarctica, where recently, Peter Doran of the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a team of scientists, report finding a marked decrease in temperature—as much as 0.7 °C per decade since 1966.
...
Although Doran and co-workers believe that the observed cooling trend is associated with decreased wind flow over the areas that were studied, they are unsure what may have caused wind velocity to decrease. In addition, the data provide no clues about whether the observed cooling trend is likely to continue in the future.

...What is certain is that the declining temperatures are having a pronounced effect on terrestrial ecosystems in dry valley areas in Antarctica. The scientists report that primary productivity of lakes in these regions is reduced by 6–9%, and soil invertebrates are declining by more than 10% annually. (Nature, January 13, 2002, 10.1038/nature710).

...The new data, which provide the best assessment yet of the mass balance of the Ross Ice Streams, indicate the ice sheet is growing by 26.8 gigatons annually, in contrast to older estimates that there has been an ice mass shrinkage of 20.9 gigatons annually. The researchers say that stagnation of some of the region’s ice stream flows is the primary contributor to the ice buildup.

So how do you consider this anomaly to be good news?

Zooey,

I respectfully disagree. Bilbobaggins in criticizing Juan C's post said essentially that there is no evidence that Gore supported the UN sanctiona against Iraq during his tenure as Vice-President.

As we see from the transcript of the 2000 presidential debate, as well as the CNN.com outline of the 2000 presidential candidates' positions, Al Gore did indeed support the UN sanctions.

Thus, Juan was correct. BilboBaggins was in error.

I respectfully disagree. Bilbobaggins in criticizing Juan C’s post said essentially that there is no evidence that Gore supported the UN sanctiona against Iraq during his tenure as Vice-President.

As we see from the transcript of the 2000 presidential debate, as well as the CNN.com outline of the 2000 presidential candidates’ positions, Al Gore did indeed support the UN sanctions.

Thus, Juan was correct. BilboBaggins was in error.

In fact, ice cap growth in the Antarctic is at its highest level in recorded history! From the University of Illinois:

Sorry to bring in science and facts to your reign of Hallelujahs here. I know how you hate science and facts when they shred your religious views.

Hey, thanks for the link! The science and facts I found there do indeed shred your moronic science denial:

UPDATE: Thursday, August 16, 2007 - New historic sea ice minimum

One week after dipping below 4 million square kilometers Northern Hemisphere sea ice area and setting the new historic record NH sea ice minimum, there is currently 3.58 million sq. kilometers sea ice area. This new minimum is almost 11% lower than the previous historic minimum.

UPDATE: Wednesday, August 22, 2007 - New historic sea ice minimum

There is currently 3.22 million sq. kilometers sea ice area in the Northern Hemisphere.

UPDATE: Tuesday, August 28, 2007 - New historic sea ice minimum

While the pace of sea ice retreat has slowed, the Northern Hemisphere sea ice area continues to decline. There is currently 2.99 million sq. kilometers sea ice area in the Northern Hemisphere.

UPDATE: Thursday, September 6, 2007

The Northern Hemisphere sea ice area has been oscillating near 3 million sq. kilometers for the past week and is currently at 3.07 million sq. km. We are near the historic calendar date of the NH summer minimum and there is about a 50/50 chance that we have already reached the minimum sea ice area for the year (2.99 million sq. km).

I think President Gore is doing exactly what he is meant to do and I think he's too smart to let himself be distracted by a political quest. The work he's doing now will impact the world for generations and beyond. This is sweet vindication for him, and I congratulate him.

Wow, the Nobel Peace Prize awarded the cult leader of The Church of Anthropogenic Global Warming? Yasser Arafat won the Nobel Peace Prize, too.

It is a prize based on lies. It is a political agenda prize.

While you are all being deceived by the False Prophet Gore on global warming, comes this BREAKING NEWS:

In fact, ice cap growth in the Antarctic is at its highest level in recorded history! From the University of Illinois:

The Southern Hemisphere sea ice area narrowly surpassed the previous historic maximum of 16.03 million sq. km to 16.17 million sq. km. The observed sea ice record in the Southern Hemisphere (1979-present) is not as long as the Northern Hemisphere. (meaning it has not been tracked as long as the North Pole) Prior to the satellite era, direct observations of the Southern Hemisphere sea ice edge were sporadic

But the happiets guy on earth today is RUSH LIMBAUGH! Now he has more material to keep talking nonsense. Just talking, not debating. Because he does not debate, he just talks BRAIN-WASHING his audience.

"For all you know Gore was vehemently against the embargo on Iraq"

Actually, we do indeed know that he supported the United Nations sanctions:

GORE: We have maintained the sanctions. I want to go further. I want to give robust support to the groups that are trying to overthrow Saddam Hussein. Some say they’re too weak to do it. But that’s what they said about those opposing Milosevic in Serbia.
