Private security firm accused of overbilling in Afghanistan.»

U.S. Protection and Investigations, a private security firm working for the State Department in Afghanistan, “is accused of overbilling the U.S. government by charging for nonexistent employees and vehicles.” The overbilling “could add up to millions of dollars,” an American security official with close ties to the company told the AP. Company computers and office files were seized last month after agents of Blackwater USA, another contractor steeped in controversy, raided USPI’s Kabul office.

It’s one thing to accidentally overcharge here and there, but this is clearly a case of criminal fraud.

When do you suppose the indictments will begin? Never?

Just another case of the culture of corruption nurtured by the Bush regime. Makes me sick.

  4. bilbobaggins Says:

I predict nothing will come of this. As far as I can tell, there hasn’t been one contractor punished for over billing the government.

Check out today’s DailyKos blog about an incident in Bagdad in 2006. Blackwater militants crashed into a US militery humvee and actually DISARMED and held the US soldiers captive at GUNPOINT until they disentangled the vehicles! WTF!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Veritas Says:

We’ve “outsourced america” - it’s time for everyone to wake up and realize that absolutely no one knows what’s going on in this country.

Unless/until the american taxpayer whose hard-earned dollars are funding these bogus operations decides to take this government back (another Boston Tea Party??), absolutely nothing will be done.
Snooze and lose - current MO for americans.

  12. Veritas Says:

Why do we continue to fund these bogus rip-offs? Ask yourself? Maybe it’s time to unite and withhold taxes since we’re being ripped off?

  13. Veritas Says:

#7 Just another case of rampant negligence. Pretty pathetic when we are paying these people three times the money to kill our own soldiers. Pathetic.

  14. Fan of Man Says:

2 $.10 washers being billed for a million dollars…… YA THINK?!?!?!?

As if our soldiers didn’t have enough to worry about, they have to deal with Mercs drawing down on them?

They should just shoot any merc that draws a bead on them, like any other armed foe. Get Blackwater out of Iraq.

  17. chisholm Says:

What the hell is Blackwater doing raiding a competitor’s office? Were they told to do this? By whom? Does Blackwater do this kind of thing all the time? I thought their only duty was to protect American diplomats? If we’re to take this article at face value this is absolutely nuts.

  18. deebaser Says:

This is why Machiavelli warned against the use of mercenaries.

Corruption in GW666 private mercenary armies? Wow, I am so shocked. You mean to tell me that they are WAR PROFITTING and they needed to steal even more than they thieving contracts would allow? I am shocked I tell you, shocked.

This is why Elizabeth de la Vega puts many of her impeachment counts in terms of fraud. The entire Iraq was has been a giant fraud machine that has ruthlessly raped the public coffers. It makes the Savings and Loan crisis look like peanuts.

  23. RUCerious Says:

    Overbilling?
    Yikes.

Are they charging the families of the dead $1.00 a bullet?

Republican cheaters ! You must be kidding.

  25. gooderservice Says:

On a lighter note, I bet if this company had a more “macho” name than US Protection and Investigations, LLC (USPI), they would have gotten away with it. On second thought, silly me… they will get away with it.

    WHAT ABOUT BLACKWATER?

  28. rockyroad Says:

Keep the BLACKWATER drum beat alive.

    Diversions are shinney pennies.

Keep the BLACKWATER drum beat alive.

  29. rockyroad Says:

Don’t permit BLACKWATER to simply disappear and reorganize under a different name (as one of its soldiers did after having been accused of murder - he just joined a different mercenary force) . . . STOP BLACKWATER in its tracks. No one affiliated with the company has any business being paid with American tax dollars to work anywhere on the planet. . . any corporation hiring BLACKWATER mercenaries should receive no tax breaks, no nada.

    We paid. We deserve better.
