U.S. Protection and Investigations, a private security firm working for the State Department in Afghanistan, “is accused of overbilling the U.S. government by charging for nonexistent employees and vehicles.” The overbilling “could add up to millions of dollars,” an American security official with close ties to the company told the AP. Company computers and office files were seized last month after agents of Blackwater USA, another contractor steeped in controversy, raided USPI’s Kabul office.

Wait a minute - agents of Blackwater are raiding the offices of other contractors?
October 12th, 2007 at 12:03 pmthe whole GWOT is a recipe for ripoffs and abuse by Bush cronies and GO big GOP donors.
October 12th, 2007 at 12:03 pm“overbilling the U.S. government by charging for nonexistent employees and vehicles.â€
It’s one thing to accidentally overcharge here and there, but this is clearly a case of criminal fraud.
When do you suppose the indictments will begin? Never?
Just another case of the culture of corruption nurtured by the Bush regime. Makes me sick.
October 12th, 2007 at 12:04 pmI predict nothing will come of this. As far as I can tell, there hasn’t been one contractor punished for over billing the government.
October 12th, 2007 at 12:05 pmGeez…talk about your hostile takeovers…
October 12th, 2007 at 12:05 pmMerc on merc action.
Welcome to the Hundred Years’ War II.

um… ya don’t suppose the blackwater agents might be
in cahoots with uspi … ?
that really stinks…
October 12th, 2007 at 12:05 pmCheck out today’s DailyKos blog about an incident in Bagdad in 2006. Blackwater militants crashed into a US militery humvee and actually DISARMED and held the US soldiers captive at GUNPOINT until they disentangled the vehicles! WTF!!!!!!!!!!
October 12th, 2007 at 12:09 pmWe’ve “outsourced america” - it’s time for everyone to wake up and realize that absolutely no one knows what’s going on in this country.
October 12th, 2007 at 12:11 pmSorry, where are my manners? Here’s the link:

October 12th, 2007 at 12:12 pmUnless/until the american taxpayer whose hard-earned dollars are funding these bogus operations decides to take this government back (another Boston Tea Party??), absolutely nothing will be done.
October 12th, 2007 at 12:12 pmSnooze and lose - current MO for americans.
Why do we continue to fund these bogus rip-offs? Ask yourself? Maybe it’s time to unite and withhold taxes since we’re being ripped off?
October 12th, 2007 at 12:13 pm#7 Just another case of rampant negligence. Pretty pathetic when we are paying these people three times the money to kill our own soldiers. Pathetic.
October 12th, 2007 at 12:14 pm2 $.10 washers being billed for a million dollars…… YA THINK?!?!?!?
October 12th, 2007 at 12:15 pm*WHAT* a surprise.
Not.

As if our soldiers didn’t have enough to worry about, they have to deal with Mercs drawing down on them?
They should just shoot any merc that draws a bead on them, like any other armed foe. Get Blackwater out of Iraq.
October 12th, 2007 at 12:32 pmWhat the hell is Blackwater doing raiding a competitor’s office? Were they told to do this? By whom? Does Blackwater do this kind of thing all the time? I thought their only duty was to protect American diplomats? If we’re to take this article at face value this is absolutely nuts.
October 12th, 2007 at 12:32 pmThis is why Machiavelli warned against the use of mercenaries.

They are Condi’s ( State Dept) personal SS stormtroopers don’t you know?
October 12th, 2007 at 12:50 pmCorruption in GW666 private mercenary armies? Wow, I am so shocked. You mean to tell me that they are WAR PROFITTING and they needed to steal even more than they thieving contracts would allow? I am shocked I tell you, shocked.

October 12th, 2007 at 1:01 pmImagine that. A privitization firm over-billing the american people? No!

new article blog-whoring! I can’t help myself. I’m a stats junkie!
October 12th, 2007 at 1:39 pmThis is why Elizabeth de la Vega puts many of her impeachment counts in terms of fraud. The entire Iraq was has been a giant fraud machine that has ruthlessly raped the public coffers. It makes the Savings and Loan crisis look like peanuts.
October 12th, 2007 at 2:11 pmOverbilling?
Yikes.
Are they charging the families of the dead $1.00 a bullet?
October 12th, 2007 at 3:27 pmRepublican cheaters ! You must be kidding.
October 12th, 2007 at 3:45 pmOn a lighter note, I bet if this company had a more “macho” name than US Protection and Investigations, LLC (USPI), they would have gotten away with it. On second thought, silly me… they will get away with it.
October 12th, 2007 at 6:00 pmAll well and good, but
October 16th, 2007 at 9:17 pmAll well and good, but:
WHAT ABOUT BLACKWATER?
October 16th, 2007 at 9:18 pmKeep the BLACKWATER drum beat alive.
Diversions are shinney pennies.
Keep the BLACKWATER drum beat alive.
October 16th, 2007 at 9:20 pmDon’t permit BLACKWATER to simply disappear and reorganize under a different name (as one of its soldiers did after having been accused of murder - he just joined a different mercenary force) . . . STOP BLACKWATER in its tracks. No one affiliated with the company has any business being paid with American tax dollars to work anywhere on the planet. . . any corporation hiring BLACKWATER mercenaries should receive no tax breaks, no nada.
We paid. We deserve better.
