State Dept. not giving ‘honest answers’ on Iraq corruption.»

Reps. Henry Waxman (D-CA) and John Tierney (D-MA) introduced a resolution today chastising the State Dept. for “withholding from Congress and the American people information about the extent of corruption in the Maliki government.” Waxman writes:

“The resolution further condemns the State Department for retroactively classifying documents that had been widely distributed previously as unclassified, and [for] directing its employees not to answer questions in an open forum that call for ‘assessments which judge…the ability/determination of the Iraqi government to deal with corruption.’”

Earlier today, several House Chairmen wrote to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice calling for “honest answers” about corruption in Iraq.

Condi: “Who could have anticipated this level of corruption under my regime at State?”

  2. Leftside Annie Says:

Huh. The words “Bush administration” and “honest answers” simply CANNOT be used in the same sentence without the word “no” inserted between them.

  3. Bad Eye Says:

    Enough already……

Slap her a** with “inherent contempt” and lock her a** in the basement until she decides to talk.

Well, I was going to say haul her ass into Congress for a couple days’ worth of questioning, but I like your idea MUCH better.

(On second thought, let’s leave her “ass” out of it. The mental pictures I’m getting are quite sickening.)

  4. Leftside Annie Says:

    Hey! I have an idea!!

How about a little waterboarding? A little sleep deprivation!! Some hypothermia and stress positions!! Head slapping!!!

    Yeah!!!

I’ll bet they’d cough up some honest answers then!!!

  5. VerbalKint Says:

Condi would rather protect her boyfriend/fantasy husband than give honest answers.

  6. Fan of Man Says:

well fu*king no DUH! its the goddamn CORRUPT state dept!

  7. impeachcheneythenbush Says:

Enough letters, enough threats of subpeonas and undelivered ones. Rice, as a “civil officer” of the federal government qualifies under the Impeachment clause of the U.S. Constitution. DO IT!! Or do what you ought to be doing and vote out Impeachment resolutions for Cheney and Bush (in tandem). If they go, the whole damn bunch of rotten apples in the barrel go with them.

  8. upside99 Says:

PEOPLE PEOPLE!!! This is all part of the SecofShoes plan for peace in the ME. And it is hush hush and on the QT, so we can’t investigate, as it might uncover some “sensitive” issues.

Just run along, nothing to see here.

  9. RUCerious Says:

    Yeah, right, straight honest answers.

Well, now, uh,, hrmph , uh, good luck with that little gem…

  10. Beyonce Welch Says:

Honest answers from Condi . What have you been drinking ?

  11. Veritas Says:

What doesn’t Waxman know about “inherent contempt” charges?? This is far overdue. I think Congress needs to bring impeachment charges against every Department in this White House Administration of smoke & mirrors, lies and corruption. It’s time to take back our government.

  12. Veritas Says:

You won’t get anything from Condi - she’s out buying shoes every day.

  13. Veritas Says:

If Waxman and Congress do not immediately issue contempt charges against every department which has NOT complied with the request for documentation, then it’s time to get rid of the spineless democrats, too.

  14. Rebel in CA Says:

Do you mean to say that the State Dept. has given honest answers before?

  15. SP Biloxi Says:

The only honest answer from Girlfriday Rice is the store that sells the best Ferragamo shoes.

I’m glad to see that you are now proposing impeachment of them together, rather than Cheney first (which would be terrible as Bush would just pardon him).

    Thanks

    Comment by RemoveBush — October 12, 2007 @ 4:50 pm

I supported impeaching Cheney first, because if Bush was gone, Cheney would be the (acknowledged) President. I’m not sure about the legality of a President pardoning a VP who has been impeached, and haven’t seen or heard any constitutional experts discussing that issue. Also, if that IS legal, what would keep Cheney from then pardoning Bush? Lastly, even if any kind of pardon is allowed in the case of impeachment/conviction, I’m also not sure if that means that individual would be restored to the office they were impeached/convicted and removed from.

Absolutely! Enough letters and warnings. And you are correct if the Dems don’t start standing up for us, it is time to cut them loose. We have wasted way too much time. Let’s take our country back.

Veritas - # 14 I will say one nice thing about Condi, IMHO she is stunning in boots and fishnets, overall, as a human being, she leaves much to be desired.

It seems to be a common theme in this thread..
    “honest answers”???
Yeah right, we’ve got a better chance of seeing Bush suit up and go serve in Iraq!
We’ve got a better chance of seeing Fox Noise endorsing a Democrat for President!

We’ve ________________ (fill in the blank)

  24. Give me back my country Says:

Honest Answer. Under Bush’s Dictatorship. Thy shall not tell the truth by any means.

  25. Badger Says:

Condi’s got other problems to worry about. This Russian speaking expert is visiting Putin along with Defense Sec. Gates.

Not only did Putin make them Wait 40 minutes before their meeting, but he stated that Iran is not attempting to make Nuclear Weapons. He also joked that our Missile Defense system could be put on the mOON, but not in Poland and the Czech Republic without Russian retaliation.
Bush better look into Putin’s soul again , and find out wassup.

  26. impeachcheneythenbush Says:

    The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and {he shall have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.“}

    Comment by RemoveBush — October 12, 2007 @ 7:23 pm

Then obviously Bush would not be able to pardon Cheney if he (Cheney)were impeached. Yes? My Socratic questions were based on your assumption that Bush COULD pardon Cheney if he (Cheney)was impeached. He cannot. Neither could Cheney pardon Bush if Bush was impeached/conficted first and Cheney became President. In addition, a President cannot pardon themselves. I have been supporting the idea of Articles of Impeachment being filed for Cheney first simply because I consider him much more of a dangerous person than Bush. I would support the idea of a “dual” impeachment simply because we are running out of time…seriously. I’m very concerned that we won’t see this crew giving up any power anytime soon.

  27. republicans hate facts Says:

Former Iraq commander Ricardo Sanchez calls US Iraq strategy, ‘desperate.’

One could argue that description fits the whole GOP strategy nicely! A bunch of desperate loons, doing desperate things

  28. impeachcheneythenbush Says:

    {he shall have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.“}

RemoveBush…read it again. Your example (#32) doesn’t apply as the Grants of Reprieves and Pardons clause isn’t referring to the President as the defendent.

  29. Gregor Samsa Says:

    “Honest answers on Iraq corruption”?

That sounds like the ultimate oxymoron…

You will never get the truth from this little piss puddle!!!

  31. dlet Says:

If they are serious…cut the money off.

  32. Gregor Samsa Says:

    Slightly off topic,

I just found something I can agree with Rice on. Here is the quote:

“In any country, if you don’t have countervailing institutions, the power of any one president is problematic for democratic development”
After Rebuff, U.S. Visitors Reach Out to Russians

But in typical Bush fashion, that statement applies to everyone except for themselves.
