Reacting to the Nobel Peace Prize announcement, White House spokesman Tony Fratto said: “Of course we’re happy for Vice President Gore and the IPCC for receiving this recognition.”
I’ll bet they are. This must be very frustrating for them. Everything they do these days turns to shit. Now the Democrat they hate the most is basking in the limelight. My bet is steam is coming out of both Bush and Chaney’s ears.
So let’s see…President Gore has now won an Academy Award, the Nobel Peace Prize, and the 2000 election. And yet the reichwingers STILL want to deny that global climate change is a problem recognized around the world (except in their own little sandboxes, of course).
Fragging of Gore and the Nobel Committee by the trolls to begin in 3….2….1…
In other news Dick Cheney was given the Boris Karloff Award for being the creepiest man on the plant and Laura Bush was given a blue ribbon by the Buffalo Woman’s Cotillion for her book Pickles and The Decider Meet Pootie.
Of course they say they are happy for Gore. Now let’s watch their minions trash Gore, the award, and global warming.
There is already an on-line poll = Does Gore deserve the Nobel?
After targeting a kid last week, now they will have a new target; their meanness and malice is a pathetic sight.
I was trying to find out if there is a tradition of the White House hosting the US citizens that win the Nobel Prize. That would be an interesting dinner…
Seven years ago BushCo & their operatives, including those on the Supreme Court, made Al Gore a “loser.†Since then which of the two has brought honor to America. And who has brought the opposite…
And further, an American wins the Nobel Peace Prize. So when do we hear that “proud of American accomplishments” congratulatory phone call from the WH on CNN?
I don’t have a problem with Al Gore winning the award…it really doesn’t matter to me, the award is rather irrelevant these days….who won last year, without looking it up on the internet?

HA HA HA! Typical spin from the Repugs. Still in denial about GW when the rest of the world and 99% of legitimate scientists agree.
About the same view as “WMDs” and “In the last throes of insurgency”. If this attitude wasn’t causing death and endangering our children’s future, it would be funny …. now, it is just pathetic.
When the Big Flush comes in ‘09, the swirling action will begin to clean the shitstreaks off this country and the Constitution.
Producing a failed movie that is being proven more and more alarmist evey day, thus putting in jeopardy the very theory of which he is trying to convince the world is going to cause imminent disaster? As more and more points in the movie are proven to be scientifically innacurate, it throw doubt upon the whole global warming problem.
A failed movie that won an Academy Award? Interesting twisted logic. And the fact that a few predictions made in the movie are disputed by some climate scientists does not “throw doubt upon the whole global warming problem.” More interesting twisted logic.
Interesting that Gore shares the award with the U.N., even though they do not even agree on the possible ramifications, nor the causes, of global warming. Regardless of claims to the contrary, there is no “consensus†on global warming.
He doesn’t share it with the UN, he shares it with the IPCC. And there is in fact a consensus on global climate change. Just because climate scientists are in disagreement about some details does not mean that they don’t agree on the big picture. That’s what science IS – a constant effort to test and re-test theories in order to improve understanding on a topic.
I don’t have a problem with Al Gore winning the award…it really doesn’t matter to me, the award is rather irrelevant these days….who won last year, without looking it up on the internet?

Just to put YOUR comment into even better context — remember that anybody can be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, and hundreds are nominated every year, including many who don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of making it (such as those on your list). No no no – the White House recognizes global climate change now, and is indeed doing something about it. Based on their previous work in this area, I believe they would extend an invitation.
To an international panel of leaders who would convene and decide on a target date for setting up a meeting at which they’d decide whether or not to invite Al Gore to the White House. THEN they’d convene a second series of meetings at which the leaders would all check their schedules and decide on a mutually-acceptable date to hold another meeting at which they’d come up with a date for Al Gore’s visit to the White House.
A third series of meetings would determine when to convene the committee to pick out the invitation stationary and decide on the font size and color for the invitation. But that would only be after a series of private meetings with representatives of the major paper-manufacturing and font-making companies and the limited-bid selection of a contractor to draft the text of the invitation.
Finally, a fourth series of meetings would set a target date for mailing the invitation and negotiate the terms of the stamp purchase, which would occur during the fifth series of meetings.
All told, I think we’ll see Al Gore meeting with the President some time in 2038.
Regardless of claims to the contrary, there is no “consensus†on global warming.
Well, there wasn’t a consensus on how many troops we needed to send to Iraq in 2003, there wasn’t a consensus on the long-term effects of our occupation of said country, there was no plan in place for what to do after “Mission Accomplished,” and there wasn’t a consensus on the validity of the intelligence that got us there in the first place.
Yet Bush insists on touting the “war” in the quagmire called Iraq as his, and America’s, greatest foreign policy achievement.
Never mind that the place is a hell hole, the number of terrorists worldwide has risen, and Mrs. Dick Cheney announces that terrorist attacks on Britain and Spain are meaningless to America because they are not in our greater interest.

You are correct, sir!
BBC News, via Google:
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President George W Bush have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by a Norwegian politician.
Harald Tom Nesvik, a member of the right-wing Party for Progress, said that he had nominated the two world leaders for fighting terrorism and promoting world peace.
theyr all part of the same club. Guiliani and Hillary are both on the CFR committee. Theyr all in on it together, Please take the wool from over your eyes
What an idiot that Norwegian must be. Nominating a person who “promotes” world peace yet invades a country that was of no threat to the U.S. and carries on a “war” for 4.5 years with no end in sight and doesn’t give a damn about capturing the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks (I say alleged because the FBI itself does not attempt to link B.L. with the attacks).
Just to put things into perspective, Bigfoot was nominated to be employee of the month at his local Dairy Queen Fast Food and Dessert Joint, and he lost to the “Soecial needs” fella who’s only in charge of keeping the heat lamps on the french fries from burning out. Bigfoot’s mom tried to console him by reminding him that it’s just a popularity contest. Reminding him that he is therefore unpopular, Bigfoot spend the remainder of that weekend in an Absolut-n-NyQuil stupor.
Why is Rudy Giuliani such a bad judge of character?
Bernard Kerik’s legal nightmare is about to get worse, with federal prosecutors expected to file charges against the former police commissioner that will likely include allegations of bribery, tax fraud and obstruction of justice, the Daily News has learned.
Rudy’s friend, and confidante is corrupt to the core.
Meanwhile, latest data show that the polar ice cap is melting faster than even the most dire predictions. It’s nice that Bigfoot has to suck on Gore’s prize, but it may be a detail if we’re all under water or dunes in 25 years.
Nobel is sweet revenge for Gore, blow to Bush
[...]
It may also be interpreted as a part of an international backlash not only against seven years of what many see as environmental backsliding under Bush but also against his Iraq war policy and perceived arrogance in world affairs.
“The Nobel Committee’s recognition of Vice President Gore shines a bright light on the most inconvenient truth of all — the selection of George Bush as president has endangered the peace and prosperity of the entire planet,” said fellow Democrat John Edwards, a 2008 White House contender.
It was a double slap to the Republican president, marking the second prize to a leading Democratic critic during Bush’s administration.
>My, the vitriol from you lefties! So much for being the people of toleration, >eh?

>…I believe I used the term: “accountingâ€
nope… your a liar or an idiot, or both. your quote was “we shouldnt let ACCOUNTANTS run the war” that was your lame attempt to knock down what the GAO said.
Again, look at a dictionary idiot. Accounting/accountants are NOT the same thing as accountability. Maybe what you meant to say is “never let ACCOUNTABLE people run the war.” at least wars you like.
Admit your an idiot with a poor vocabulary instead of trying to make excuses. Do you deny you blatantly misspelled “intelligent” as well?

One merely cannot honestly state that there is “consensus†on global warming, while at the same time acknowledging that scientists do not agree on the causes or effects of global warming.
Yes one can. Climate scientists agree in principle on the man-made causes and effects of global climate change. They disagree on some of the details.
Man adapts, the earth adapts, and there is no reason to believe either won’t continue to do so.
Comment by O. Bigfoot — October 12, 2007 @ 12:03 pm
Not disputing you there. The Earth will adapt. It has done so before and it will do it again. Over the next few decades and centuries the planet will reach a new stable equilibrium of temperature and atmospheric composition. And if past periods of runaway climate change are any indication, many species will become extinct in the process. Including possibly ours.
Right. And you’re just the guys who want to shred the constituion and turn the country into an unquestioned, challenged monarchy because of a group of people who are statistically about as likely to take our lives as lightning is?

Seriously, though — the White House DOES recognize global warming now. They enthusiastically support it, because the melting of the arctic ice cap means it’s now easier to get the oil underneath it.

George W. Bush
Comment by Democrat Soldier — October 12, 2007 @ 10:34 am
You are correct, sir!
BBC News, via Google:
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President George W Bush have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by a Norwegian politician.
Harald Tom Nesvik, a member of the right-wing Party for Progress, said that he had nominated the two world leaders for fighting terrorism and promoting world peace.
October 12th, 2007 at 10:38 amtheyr all part of the same club. Guiliani and Hillary are both on the CFR committee. Theyr all in on it together, Please take the wool from over your eyes
October 12th, 2007 at 10:38 amCongrats to Al Gore!
Now we need to draft him for President.
October 12th, 2007 at 10:39 amCome on, Bigfoot. Please put Bush’s nomination into context by comparing it with Hitler’s and Stalin’s.
October 12th, 2007 at 10:39 amThat nomination was in 2002, BTW.
October 12th, 2007 at 10:40 amBigfoot/LittleP*nis does the usual right wing bait and switch. He did the lame “anyone can be nominated” line instead of the “Who actually wins” line.
When you do the “who won” list it is not Hitler, Staling and Bush, it is:
*The Dalai Lama
*Nelson Mandela(The most righwingers I knew called Mandela a “terrorist” throughout the 80’s)
*Elie Wiesel
*Lech Walesa(The last union guy the rightwing fell in love with)
*Mother Theresa
*Anwar Sadat/Menachem Begin
*Martin Luther King
A little honesty always punctures the flaccid rightwing talking points.

October 12th, 2007 at 10:43 amWhat an idiot that Norwegian must be.
October 12th, 2007 at 10:45 amJust to put things into perspective, Bigfoot was nominated to be employee of the month at his local Dairy Queen Fast Food and Dessert Joint, and he lost to the “Soecial needs” fella who’s only in charge of keeping the heat lamps on the french fries from burning out. Bigfoot’s mom tried to console him by reminding him that it’s just a popularity contest. Reminding him that he is therefore unpopular, Bigfoot spend the remainder of that weekend in an Absolut-n-NyQuil stupor.

October 12th, 2007 at 11:04 amNobel is sweet revenge for Gore, blow to Bush
The 2002 prize went to former President Jimmy Carter, which the Nobel committee head at the time said was a signal of disapproval over Bush’s preparations for the invasion of Iraq.

nope… your a liar or an idiot, or both. your quote was “we shouldnt let ACCOUNTANTS run the war” that was your lame attempt to knock down what the GAO said.

“The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) is known as “the investigative arm of Congress” and “the congressional watchdog.” ”
http://www.gao.gov/about.htm
HOW MANY PLACES DO YOU SEE the WORD “ACCOUNTANTS” ON THIS PAGE?
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/accountant
ac·count·ant
–noun a person whose profession is inspecting and auditing personal or commercial accounts.
n. One that keeps, audits, and inspects the financial records of individuals or business concerns and prepares financial and tax reports
VS.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/accountability
accountability
noun
responsibility to someone or for some activity
ac·count·a·ble :Liable to being called to account; answerable.
See Synonyms at responsible.
the state of being accountable, liable, or answerable.
again , these two words are NOT the same thing and you need to show me where on the GAO page it talks about how they are accountants and not investigators
October 12th, 2007 at 12:27 pm>And I did call the “GAO†the “Government Accounting Officeâ€, rather than >the official name: “Government Accountability Officeâ€.
Official versus WRONG.. ahahahah. idiot. I showed you the dictionary definitions of both AGAIN, plainly showing they have no similarities and yet still you insist..

October 12th, 2007 at 12:34 pmOne merely cannot honestly state that there is “consensus†on global warming, while at the same time acknowledging that scientists do not agree on the causes or effects of global warming.
October 12th, 2007 at 12:36 pm>You folks have the right to be alarmists.

The Nobel Peace prize is very politicised and it has lost its glory. Among the past Peace prize winners are:
Menachem Begin
Yitzahaq Rabin
Shimon Perez
The three Senior Leaders of the terrorist state of Israel.
Also on the list is:
Mohammad Al-Baradei and Anwar Sadat (You must be jocking).
Who else: Kofi Anan and the United Nations …. Goodness Gracious
Some more? What about: Henry Kissinger? Good grief.
Well … after all with this trend Mr. Ehud Olmert will qualify for the next term Awards.
