Fox bashes Gore, boosts Petraeus for the Nobel again.»

On Friday, ThinkProgress noted that the day before Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, Fox News hosted New York Sun editor Seth Lipsky, who argued that Gen. David Petraeus, the top military commander in Iraq, deserved the Nobel instead of Gore. As Nicole Belle points out today, Fox hosted another Sun columnist, Seth Gitell, on Friday after Gore received the award. In the segment, Gitell continued Fox’s attacks on Gore, again arguing in favor of Petraeus.

a GENERAL for a PEACE prize? that’s like McDonald’s for a PETA prize.

  2. Lefty Patriot Says:

Hey, it’s FOX. they’re all about getting it wrong.

  3. detepe Says:

Oh, for pity’s sake. If they don’t like that Al won the Nobel, let ‘em try and earn some respect and prestige and hand out their own darn award. For now Fox needs to get over it and STFU.

    Good work Gore!!!

  4. Veritas Says:

When will Fox News get their heads out of their rumps and realize that Gore has already won it? Get over it already! The “Gore Envy” among the jokers and losers at Fox is amazing. Jealousy even makes grown men turn into crybabies!

  5. Xisithrus Says:

Well, the FOX nuts can always hopes Petraeus brings peace to Iraq BEFORE the next prizes are handed out.

    Good luck with that.

  6. Veritas Says:

Screw Fox News! They’re nothing but a fake news progam and a propaganda “tool” - used and abused by the Bush Crime Cabal.

Get your “fox blocker” today so you can send a clear signal to Fox News and all of their sponsors that you don’t support them.

  7. Kryptik Says:

They know nothing about what the Peace Prize stands for, as they have no concept of peace or any willingness to have such a concept. War is their business after all, and peace cuts the profits.

  8. Veritas Says:

“How about how the sycophant Petreus will be accused of “crimes against peace” by the War Crimes Tribunals?? And then he can face “crimes against humanity” if he survives the first trial.

  9. StrikerG Says:

Since WWII, only two generals had ever been awarded the Peace Prize: General George Marshall, and North Vietnamese general Le Duc Tho, who declined the award. Compare what Petraeus has done so far in Iraq to the Marshall Plan in Europe and Petraeus has done nothing to merit the award. And I certainly don’t think Fox is going to reference Tho as precedent. Lets not forget that McCarthy tried to completely destroy Marshall. Tactics kinda sound familiar, huh?

    Anyway, congrats to the VP!

  10. moondancer Says:

Thats like Fox getting a Peabody, or O’Reilly a life, or Fats Limbaugh an erection. All things that aren’t going to happen.

  11. Xisithrus Says:

Lets award Richard and George the peace prize for starting this quagmire!!

Maybe we should give Nixon the peace prize for withdrawing troops?

Naw, who am I kidding, he would be called a traitor and a coward by todays chicken-hawks, for cutting and running [and peace?]

  18. Xisithrus Says:

Now how can you award a general a peace prize when this is a freedom operation?

Is them FOX people idjuts ur wat?

  19. spyder Says:

Yeah i suppose a war criminal makes a reasonable candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize. Illegal invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation, carried out in violation of numerous international treaties and continuing to murder innocent civilians to instill terror in that occupied population—these are certainly hallmarks of a Nobel Peace candidate.

Also, to start a war, a country needs UN Security Council approval, which Bush failed to get. Otherwise, a nation can fight only in self-defense when attacked.

By attacking Iraq, Bush violated the Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907, the Kellogg-Briand Peace Pact of 1928, the UN Charter, the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunals, and the Nuremberg Charter, Judgment and Principles, Boyle said.

As all treaties become the supreme law of the land under Article VI of the U.S. Constitution, the Bush-Cheney presidency is guilty of breaking all of the above, warmongering in spades.

Boyle believes, “A soldier has an obligation to disobey illegal orders,” which he says is printed in black-and-white in the Army’s Field Manual(AFM) 27-10.

Without Security Council authority, President Bush’s war is “a crime against peace,” Boyle says. That’s also written in paragraph 498 of the AFM.

“Any person, whether a member of the armed forces or a civilian, who commits an act which constitutes a crime under international law is responsible therefore and liable to punishment (as)…crimes against peace,” the AFM reads.

FOX doesn’t listen to professors TCD…thinks they are all nutty, and thats why Karl never got his degree in political science after 6 colleges and numerous deferments during vietnam.

As people do better, they start voting like Republicans — unless they have too much education and vote Democratic, which proves there can be too much of a good thing. -Karl Rove

Genius, huh? Keep the people dumbed down and they will vote Republican. Actually I think Karl was talking about FOX when he talked about lack of education.

Giving the Nobel Peace Prize to Petraeus is reminiscent of when someone in the military brass said during the Vietnam War: “We had to destroy the village in order to save it.” A more Orwellian choice for that honor would be difficult to fathom.

I get more truth from Pravda than Fox News. Fox is entertainment, and not information. 49. tarazan Says:

That’s because according to Fox Network ‘war’ means ‘peace’.
And since the Iraqis are enjoying their most beautiful and peacfeul moments !!, then the most eligible person for the Nobel Peace Prize should be General Petraeus as the Network sees it..

  51. Ben Dover Says:

  56. Juan C. Says:

Well, Kissinger also got the award. That will not change either.

I think it is not a matter if the guy I like won or not. I think it is a progressive matter to go beyond results and criticize procedures. Gore has done a great job at informing US citizens what Climate Change was/is, and I dont want to sound aggressive or demeaning but all that info was pretty much well known around the world from years ago.

  57. bob lahblah Says:

Here’s the press release from the Nobel Committee from 2002, the year they award the prize to that “crazy” Jimmy Carter:

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2002 to Jimmy Carter, for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.

During his presidency (1977-1981), Carter’s mediation was a vital contribution to the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt, in itself a great enough achievement to qualify for the Nobel Peace Prize. At a time when the cold war between East and West was still predominant, he placed renewed emphasis on the place of human rights in international politics.

Through his Carter Center, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2002, Carter has since his presidency undertaken very extensive and persevering conflict resolution on several continents. He has shown outstanding commitment to human rights, and has served as an observer at countless elections all over the world. He has worked hard on many fronts to fight tropical diseases and to bring about growth and progress in developing countries. Carter has thus been active in several of the problem areas that have figured prominently in the over one hundred years of Peace Prize history.

In a situation currently marked by threats of the use of power, Carter has stood by the principles that conflicts must as far as possible be resolved through mediation and international co-operation based on international law, respect for human rights, and economic development.

Sounds to me like Bush & Co. could have benefitted from a phone call to “crazy” Jimmy before invading Iraq.

  58. drtichy Says:

    Petraeus Nobel Peace Prize???
What peace are they talking about? Petraeus is not promoting any peace, he is just in charge of chasing terrorists - and, by the way, very unsuccessfully!
This is his assignment, and he is being paid to do that. It was not his choice. It was Bush’s choice.
Those politicians (conservatives with no conscience) deal with the American peopel as if everyone is just mentally retarded in this country and only they are intelligent and able to think.
Proposing the Nobel Peace Prize for Petraeus is to underestimate our intelligence. It’s an INSULT to the American people!

  59. RUCerious Says:

Faux Snooze is very much ir-relavent. Their reichwing spin machine spews hollow propaganda. Only the 29%ers and the old lady yodeling on the piano in the nursing home day room give a shit.

I sure miss having good leadership.

It’s been so long since we’ve benefited from good leadership.

When was the last time that we had good, dependable, objective, intelligent leadership?

    Maybe 7+ years ago?

    LEADERSHIP!

  61. Bad Eye Says:

Neither Gore nor the General deserve the award, in my opinion.

“We’re brainwashing our children,” said Dr William Gray, 78, a long-time professor at Colorado State University. “They’re going to the Gore movie [An Inconvenient Truth] and being fed all this. It’s ridiculous.”

    Comment by TCDon — October 14, 2007 @ 7:24 pm

Brainwashing our children. Ahhh, we’ve seen that before. So what do you think about the Bush administration brainwashing the American public into a needless war? What do you think about all those people who STILL think that Iraq was responsible for 9/11?

So you don’t think Gore deserves the prize? Since when were you elected to the Nobel Committee?

I bet you agree that Bush, who has _ucked up the Middle East more than anyone in American history, deserved nomination in 2002 for the Nobel Prize. What about Bush sharing the distinction with Stalin and Hitler of being nominated for the prize?

So what’s your take on all this? Leaving aside the argument for and against global warming, along with the nuts over at Newsbusters where you likely got your quote above, do you think that man is not affecting the climate in any way?

What about all the power plants that burn oil or coal and are continuously pumping heat and pollution into the air? We have a major chemical company in our town that produces its own electricity. They have probably 20 coal-fired boilers that produce steam, used to generate electricity 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Those 8 smokestacks feeding from the boilers pump heat that is hundreds of degrees in temperature into the atmosphere EVERY DAY. For at least 50 YEARS. Now tell me that this in no way affects the climate.

What about all the cars worldwide…millions upon millions…that belch out air that is hotter than what they ingest via their intake manifolds. And that is not to mention heat that is emitted by the engine block, radiator, and exhaust system. Every day of each year. Now tell me that this in no way affects the climate.

Finally, here’s a quote from one of the contributers at Newsbusters:

I’m all for preserving this beautiful planet. It takes my breath away to see footage of it from space but I also know that the nutty, extremist human activities intended to “save it” are a waste of time. The earth is strong; it will survive no matter how many SUV’s we junk and long after Gore is beneath its crust.

Yeah! Let’s just pollute the hell out of this planet. _uck Earth. Me and my way of life is much more important. She’s a strong old gal. She can take it!

  62. Wordsmith Says:

Firstly, it’s not an American prize. Alfred Nobel was Swedish and assigned the Norwegians the task as part of his legacy.

Secondly, it’s not a military honor either. The likes of General Petraeus would never get such an honor as The Nobel Peace Prize, due to not only perpetuating an illegal, ill-conceived war based upon pure lies but supporting the status quo as well. Petraeus receiving the Nobel prize is akin to giving Dr Mengele the Nobel Prize for Medicine due to his research in twins research.

Good point. However, I think that when it comes right down to it, it’s less about the award itself and more about bashing Gore at whatever cost. As pointed out several times here at TP, let a conservative win the award and see how Fox and the rightwingers champion it as the greatest thing since sliced bread.
